Anyone having this problem with one side of the screen being brighter? Very noticeable on Grey's and some blues.

Not at all, are you using a custom launcher with a desktop shadowing? Maybe just return it for a new one.

yep mine is the like that..
in settings menu you can actually see that the top is darker "blue" and the bottom is much brighter "blue" tone...
the same problem was on the Note 3 just not so visible because the menues was black toned
Mines similar too. Brighter on left hand side in portrait mode.

I don't see a reason to return it for a new one, because it on all Galaxy amoled devices.. S4, Note 3 and S5... I've had 4 Note 3 not because of faults and the all had this problem some more and some less... but it was there...
In the store I work I've seen it on all Galaxy S4 and note 3 devices... it's especially easy to see on a grey color..
on the S5 its a bit easier to se because of the color they choose for the background color in settings menu, you can actually see that on all the S5 devices I've handled including my ovn. the settings background is darker in the top and brighter at the bottom.. they all had a bit of variation..
Using the dead pixels test app, mine is evenly shaded
However, on the settings menu, the top does seem darker than the bottom. It seems samsung intended it to shade it that way

I was just wondering if any other owners noticed that the Nexus S has considerable more vertical banding than their previous handset.
My previous phone was a Vibrant and the Nexus seems much worse? Like when you pull the notification bar down you can see the vertical bands against the dark background or if you look at the background of the Gallery. It's very noticeable so I'm wondering if my phone is the only one like this or if it is a common issue with this phone?
Errr take a picture :S
Sounds like stuff related to pentile, and Nexus S not having the mDNIe part of the Super AMOLED screen, compared to other Galaxy S phones.
I saw the same thing...but its the touchwiz gallery has inhancements that make it look better.....watch on your vibrant pic an image side by side with your nexus....watch how when you click on the image it looks just like the nexus dose then it inhaces it where the ribbons dissopear....I've done it so I know...try it out

Noticed the same thing on my Samsung Focus.
It may just be the image quality of your picture, but mine is not nearly as bad as that. In fact mine is hardly even noticeable.
I exchanged mine with another one. The banding on my first one was more noticeable than the picture in this thread. The new has it a little bit but it is much clearer.
There is an LED at the bottom of the phone, but there is a dearth of photos showing how bright it is or whether it can emit various colors. Any other comments out there?
Wow if there was led notifications it would be the perfect phone.

I'm really interested about this feature ! If anyone have an information tell us!
Pretty sure it's a similar RBG LED as the Galaxy Nexus, you can see it's at the bottom of the phone below the screen. At the vert least we know it's there as the manual says it is!

Take it for what it's worth.
I think the GNex set the standard on this one, the ED will be a part of the bottom bezel.

2nd paragraph neat the bottom they state its RGB but I will look more.

I don't understand either clause above. Can you explain? Thanks...
I also read somewhere that it is indeed RGB. Thank god we have LightFlow

Bummer. I wish more people would center the FFC. Or at least angle the camera so you don't have to offset the phone while video chatting or taking pictures. The FFC on the Nexus 4 is all the way on the right.
I received my Nexus 4 in the mail today. Opened it, set it up, noticed immediately in the Google Now app that the whites were yellow compared to my AT&T LG Optimus G (E-970). Since LG seems to manufacturer both screens (though I can't confirm that), why is the Nexus 4's screen so much more yellow? This is before the 4.2 software update, by the way:

I know camera white balance can throw images like these off, but they appear to my eyes exactly like they do here.
My LGOG was never like this out of the box, as I would have noticed it for sure (since the LG's white is the same as my computer screen's.)
Any thoughts? Are all Nexus 4s affected by this 'warmer' screen tint?
That's just how my new replacement n4 is. Has an ugly yellow tint over the entire screen. My original had a yellow bar along the bottom of the screen... Which was annoying but the complete yellow tint is worse yet!

ouch...will they let you RMA for a replacement?

yup i got the same, but give it sometimes. it will get better though
Hi All,
Been a while since I've visited since purchasing a Nexus 4.
Anyway, my Defy had a cracked screen so I got a new touch screen digitizer to put in it so my daughter could use it.
Got it installed just fine, without any issues.
However, shortly after installing it I noticed this odd grid showing up on the screen. It's only visible when the phone screen is dark colored.
You can see a photo of the grid in this post on Google+. EDIT: Also attached the image to this post.

Anyone have any ideas why that grid is showing? It's not a big deal, as my 3 year old daughter hasn't even noticed it. But if I were still using that phone it's something that would drive me insane. I'm mostly just curious as to why it's there.
Thanks!
I can't be certain but I also had the digitizer replaced and right away I noticed the grid. From what I understand each square is point to recognize touch. From looking at your pictures I would say that mine is not as prominent and I only see mine in lighter screens. I'm going to say its because it's not an original motorola defy replacement because when I compare with my other one (yes I have 2) there is no grid at all and the capacitive buttons are very different looking on the new one. I'm still trying to decide if I can live with it or not cause sometimes it does bug me.

Hello
Having some artifacts on the top left corner on the screen. They are only visible on white background and high brightness.
This photo was taken with another camera. Screen shot didnt show it so I'm guessing it's a screen issue.
Any ideas if there is anything I can do to repair this before I spend an arm and a leg for the repairs?
Photo attached.

Seems like burned-in symbols
Yep burn in. Try to lower the brightness when using a Nav app to reduce burn in.

This is what happened with LED over time?
Yes. If you have the same non uniform content on screen and high brightness over a long time, it burns in. The LEDs degrade in a non uniform manner.
I had it on the S1, after two or three years the space where the statusbar is was a bit more blue than the rest of the screen, while watching a fullscreen white. My statusbar was black. Seemed on that device the blue LEDs fatigue more than red and green. This refers to AMOLED.
If you have a panel with white LED-backlight this should not happen, as all LEDs always have the same brightness. Only a bit of brightness-loss or colour-shift will happen over time, but should be nearly uniform over the whole screen
