[Q] Galaxy S5 Search bar in contacts tab shows all contacts? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm syncing from a gmail account.
I've successfully filtered my contacts to display only those from a particular group and to only display ones with phone numbers. Panning up and down the list is fine and works as I want.
However, if I use the search bar at the top, it seems to use "all contacts" instead of my new customized view.
This is annoying as email addresses are popping up when searching for a contact. I have tons of contacts so the easiest way is to hit a letter to search. Is there something I'm missing?

Hiding Sim Contacts in Peoples App

I've started using Hero [T-Mobile G2 Touch] just today and I really liked it...apart from one thing. The contacts in Peoples app are a big mess. It has so many contacts from gmail, mail, facebook, and sim [basically everything it could get its hands on]. Same contact is appearing multiple times due to that. Though I didn't like it, and would only have preferred the contacts with phone nums to appear in it, but I guess that'll just be me. So for the first step I'd like to know if there's a way I'm able to hide the sim contacts from appearing in the list?
I wasn't able to find anything via google. I could only find ways to import contacts from sim, and copy a contact to sim, but not to hide it
I obviously won't like to delete all the contacts from my sim.

Hi faisaliqbal,
There is a way to filter the contacts so that you don't see all of the duplicates.
To do it, go to your contact list, select the 'Menu' button then choose the view option.
You'll see the list of contact sources i.e. google, exchange, phone, sim etc. Simply deselect the ones you don't want to see in your contacts list.
I use Exchange Activesync for my contacts so I've disabled google etc and no longer see any duplicates when viewing my contact list.
There is also an option to display contacts from say the phone, sim etc only if duplicates are found.
Hope this helps
In the People app, from the "All" screen, press "Menu" and select "View".
From there you can choose with sources you can see contacts from (Google, Phone, SIM), and you can even decide which source to use for duplicates.
In addition, if you don't want to see all the people you've ever had email correspondence with in Gmail, go to "Groups" and press "Menu" and select "Sync groups". You should deselect "Sync all contacts".
Regards,
Dave
EDIT: I'm not trying to duplicate what thecastleford kid said - when I started writing my response, he hadn't posted his!

Can't see any contact groups

How can I see groups of contacts in the N1 contacts app?
On the Hero there is a tab for groups but I can't see one anywhere on the N1. Neither are they visible when I want to send a text message or an email to a group of contacts.
I can see the menu option where I can add and remove the google groups from my google account but this does not fix the problem.
Am I missing something?

How to limit Gmail contacts to 'My Contacts'?

Is there anyway to prevent all the contacts with whom I've ever contacted from showing up as contacts that are synced?
hit the menu key and you should be able to pick the groups that are displayed.
The menu key shows I have 3 display options - phone, SIM, and Google.
In Gmail, I have 'My Contacts' (160 contacts) and All Contacts has 1300 contacts. All 1300 are being synced. How can I limit to the My Contacts that show up just as they should online within Gmail??
I even have smaller subgroups such as family and co-workers, which also do not show up on the phone. ??
Thanks...
Try the checkbox "Only display contacts with phones"
Otherwise the stock contacts app isn't very good at sorting.

That DOES limit to those with only phones. However, the list still does not match up to the list of 'My Contacts' in Gmail.
Hell, even the iphone synced perfectly with Gmail's contacts. What in the world is going on here?? Surely others are experiencing this weirdness too? I just don't see the option to sync to subgroups the way others see this.
There is no option to do this. Big oversight on Samsung's part. Coming from a G1 where I could sync a specific list this is a step back. Hoping they add this to their update.
See that's what I don't understand coming from the iphone. Isn't there a stand-alone contacts app that can properly sync with Gmail's 'My Contacts'?
I'm as flabbergasted as the rest of you all. This is the one aspect of TouchWiz that so far feels like a huge step backward from G1. Maybe some don't like the auto-sync to the cloud aspect, but for me it was a huge selling point of Android as I didn't have to hook it up to any computer and it was always in sync with my online address book. This is just lame.
Do any of you with more Android experience see this to be corrected in an impending update, possibly before 2.2?
I was able to change mine throug display options, listing google and phone, and selecting only contacts w/ #'s and mine works great!!!
You might try a third-party app in the Market called Contacts Evolved. It does not replace the brain-dead Samsung/T-Mobile Contacts app, which cannot be uninstalled. But Contacts Evolved can be used as an alternate user interface.
The advantage is that the Groups from Google's Gmail contacts are displayed, and the contacts are segregated by group into handy tabs. (The syncing done by the native app seems to pulls down the Groups data element, but that app ignores it.)
One downside is that Contacts Evolved seems a little buggy. There are some force-close issues.

[Q] Weird contacts issue

Under the contacts menu of the streak everything is fine, but if I use another app or widget that access' my contacts, such as facebook sync or picture dial, I have multiple entries for each person, none of which are what is shown in my actual contacts list. For example someone has their phone number, email and picture (synced from facebook) in my actual contacts list, but in the program theres 3 versions, one with email and picture, one with just email and one with phone and email. It means when i try and use picture dial I cant select one that all the info it needs.
I also noticed that in the actual contacts list it doesnt seem to matter what sync options i set or what sub group im currently supposed to be looking at, it always shows the same contacts. For instance it won't show my gmail contacts even if i tell it to. It doesn't bother me, but I don't know if the two issues are related.
Any ideas anyone? Is there anyway to bulk get rid of all contacts? Then i could just get my computer to sync all the contacts back on again, though I'd have to go through and link them to facebook again so I'd rather not if i can avoid it.
Any help appreciated!

Syncing to much contacts with Facebook for Android

Hi there, I'm new to android and I installed the Facebook for Android app.
I manually inserted some of my friends into the Contactlist.
I tried to sync my Facebook-friends that are presented into my manually added Contactlist.
When I want to send a textmessage (sms) and search for a contact, I can see my entire facebook friends... But I only want to see my manually added contactlist (with the facebook sync like: photo's, profile, etc)
So my problem:
- Contactlist ok (only my contacts from phonebook)
- Messages not ok (I can see my entire facebook)
Open Facebook, tap the stylized facebook text on the top left corner so you go to the 9 icon grid layout, then tap the Menu softkey, Settings, scroll down, tap Sync Contacts, choose Sync with existing contacts, then OK.

I allready did this, but ALL the facebook contacts are still in "Message"
Try Don't sync, let it clear out your contacts list, then try sync with existing contacts again.
Also, check that you don't have facebook syncing contacts with the Social Hub.

I deleted my fb accound and then I synced with existing contacts...
But in Messages I see all the facebook friends again.
I never opened social hubs, I did it now but I don't have any feeds because I have 0 accounts into feeds...
But on the tab Messages i see the link to messages...
And again same story = All facebook contacts.
I also tried to delete them by KIES. But KIES only shows the right contacts (not the facebook contacts)
Just checked on my own phone and yeah I have the same issue.
Try Add recipient>Groups>My Contacts? Or Favourite all the people you want to text and tap the Favourites tab every time you text maybe?
Sorry that's all I can help you with. Dunno how to completely rid the nonessential contacts from Messages short of exporting the ones you want from Facebook and reimporting via Google or something.
seems to be a bug with Samsungs implementation of FB integration, you can choose to hide facebook only contacts but when messaging it will show your full Contacts list (including facebook) regardless of the selection made in the Contacts menu.
hope samsung sort it out !
Yeah same issue. chose only sync with existing contacts but it still synced all
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Annoying bug, I have a work around!
Any work around?
This is the same issue with mine, I have tried loads of things, it looks like a bug as selecting sync with existing contacts, should just sync existing contacts not 'All' which is what it's doing!
However I have recently started using 'Go SMS' as my default SMS app and when I follow the same process to text someone I don't get the whole of my FB friends now!
Try it see what you think but I prefer GO SMS to the default Samsung SMS app.
