[TOOL] Website for instant firmware update check for Xperia phones - Sony Cross-Device General

Hi everybody!
This post is probably already late for party, but I wanted to share with you a website I've done in june 2013 first for checking the availability of new firmwares for the Sony Xperia Z phone and then expanded to more Sony devices.
Sony firmware check
This is a website (which works very nicely from mobile, too) to quickly check if Sony has released a new firmware for your phone model based on your Customization ID number stored inside your phone.
It allows you to save a bookmark for your very own phone (I have one myself on my phone homescreen) and it also allows you to have a dynamic image to insert in your signature on forum boards for brag and stuff.
It does NOT (yet) allow you to download FTF firmwares from different regions. If you need an update check AND a sort of FTF files index, I suggest the awesome updatechecker (for Windows) by Macmol.
This is the website: http://scavenger.ch/xperiaupdate/
I hope you can find it useful. Any (good or bad) feedback is very welcome.

We have a better tool > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608983
Also that website is know for server problems and slow.. Also if a lot of people are checking their device the website will be very very slow.

You know, I have linked that tool in my post...
And it's definitely a very nice tool (and I love the direct links to the FTF files), the only "flaw" is it only works on Windows, but hey, the more, the better. Right?

Mh... nope, not really. The website caches requests for the same firmware for a short period of time to avoid overloading Sony server. If the reply is slow it's because the Sony server are slow in that moment, there's nothing I can do without generating even more load on Sony servers side.

Thanks. I like this website.
I already have a browser open after my Windows started so I don't need another tool just to check for a easy version number. This website is a better fit for me.

Why not make apk checker
Xperia Z existenze V6

It looks great and is made really well, but I'm not sure whether it's a website issue or custom rom issue because I'm running on .681 based rom and it won't tell me about a new firmware update, yet the website tells me this:
Model: C6903
Custom number: 1276-7939
Latest firmware: 14.3.A.0.757
Any ideas?

You don't have the L on the list.

If you don't insert your own Custom number, the website picks a generic one (if available) or a random one from its countries database. And we all know Sony doesn't deploy firmware updates homogeneously between countries.
For exampe: these custom numbers 1276-2221, 1276-4318 and 1279-2261 will give you all different firmware versions.

BTW, the custom id for Wind is 1272-3535.

Meanwhile, the website works nicely on your phone.

I see.
So, you have an older firmware than the one available online. But PC Companion or SEUS doesn't give you any update, is this what you mean?
If I'm right, then there are 2 options:
the OTA check is always slower than PCC or SEUS (or my website) and it may take days before the phone notifies you.
You have unlocked the bootloader or done some tricky stuff and therefore new updates are no more notified to you (check this page).

Yeah, you're right. I should have thought about it. Nice work btw. Clean, sleek, easy to use, gorgeous, Sony styled and other small things like the refresh button and a bookmark. It looks like it's so simple, nobody would use it, yet it looks great and makes the website complete and finished.
How you managed to check the firmware based on customization btw?

Well, the core of my website is totally based from @Apollo89 work and his post listing all the Xperia Z firmwares. I just put a good looking wrapper around it.

You're welcome. You've done a great job and it looks awesome, I just said what's on my mind.

@pascalbrax
I like your work. Go on like this.

Added support (at last) for the Xperia Z2...

The website is under heavy maintenance, it's not dead, yet.

After so many days, I've added the HSPA version of the Xperia Z2 to the list and a few new Xperia tablets.

Those who got update notification,
Take a backup of all important data like contacts, call logs, SMSs, apps, APN and other settings before proceeding further. You may have to perform a clean install of your OS. While for all practical purposes, using Flashtool is safe but there is a very very remote chance of damaging your phone and don’t blame me should it happen.
For flashtool-Link
1. Install Sony PC Companion and/or SEUS. This will copy the necessary drivers to your PC. Connect your phone with USB Debugging enabled and allow your PC to install the necessary drivers.
2. Connect your phone and update or repair your phone with the latest firmware version (right now 14.1.G.1.534). If you update/upgrade, your data will be preserved. If you repair, all data may be lost. So backup everything. Now, your phone is updated with the latest firmware. Keep it aside. We don’t need your phone anymore to create the ftf file.
3. Go toC:\ProgramData\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\13740270\blob_fs folder and look for the biggest three files. The folder “blob_fs” may be located in a different place depending on whether you used PC Companion or SEUS. Perform a search for that folder if you can’t find it. Once you are inside the folder, sort by size and see the 3 largest files were just created (when you updated/repaired your phone). Copy them to somewhere else like D:\firmware.
4. Install Flashtool and open it.
5. Click Advanced > Decrypt Files.
6. Select all the three files and click the right arrow to send them to the right side and click OK. In a moment, you will see a Flashtool pop up window that shows all the decrypted files. Select all and click the right arrow button.
7. Type in the device name next to Device, firmware version number next to Version, and branding next to Branding and click OK.
8. In the Device Selection window that appears, select xperia Z1 and click OK.
9. In a moment, your ftf file will be there in the default Flashtool folder C:\Flashtool\Firmwares
10. Upload it and post the link so that everyone can use it..

Backed up my firmware before debranding to generic UK.
Issue is backup is nowhere to be found!!! I checked it was there before I flashed the generic to be sure I had a fallback....but looking for it now, GONE! Weird...

I wonder why they are pushing out so many updates in such a short time. Is there something really wrong that needs to be fixed?
I'm going to order my Z1 soon and I'm afraid if I should install the latest update if it's available or should I wait as I don't want to risk to not have root access? I need it for backup and restore and a couple of apps like Greenify...

How is this ROM compared to .244 firmware when it comes to 1) performance, 2) battery and 3) camera performance?
can anyone post any impressions on this rom?
Any new things that you've noticed?
How's the battery?
How's the camera?
And everything in between?
Thanks!
==================================================
updated yesterday. The camera takes a little longer to load ( 2 seconds give or take)
havent fully tested for the battery.
The camera seems to find the targets much faster, photos seems sharper and hold more detail than before.
Audio seems unchanged, so is decent but not great.
the UI is fluid as ever, and all in all havent noticed any bugs on this one. A nifty update if you ask me.

Yes, flashing any stock Sony ROM will lose your root access, but you can get it back again.
If you have unlocked your bootloader, you can root by flashing a custom kernel like DoomLord's with CWM (the 757 kernel is the same as the 761 kernel so can use the one for 757) and then reinstall the superuser/superSU zip from CWM recovery. Alternatively, if you want to keep using the stock kernel you can use a "HotBoot" method.
Alternatively, you can root with your bootloader still locked by using this tedious and long-winded method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688933 (only way to backup TA keys)
PS: if you are a n00b and don't want to lose all your data then remember to uncheck "wipe data" in FlashTool.
Just updated to .761 but notification shutter bug ist still there :/

what's the different between Nordic Firmware and CE or other?
greetings
Can u please upload it to Mega or someother site. I've tried downloading it like 10 times and everytime at the last moment I get download error. It's something wrong with google drive.

Anybody could check if the viewfinder ISO bug is still there? To test just open the camera app, set to manual mode, lower the ISO to something like 50, and see if the viewfinder goes dark?
Region problems ??

Considering the radio standards all across Europe are essentially the same, and it is labelled as having has the "EURO-LTE" SW as essentially any other customization I have seen, I doubt there is any difference. It has all the languages and country options to select from so essentially is global in that respect too. The reason "Nordic" comes out first seems to be for no other reason than because Sony Mobile's software team is based in Sweden.
I won't upgrade then lol! Don't have any issues with the current firmware other than the iso viewfinder bug. So unless sony fixes it or add some major feature then nope sticking to the old one.

Sony’s flagship Xperia Z4 goes global with the humbler title of Z3+
The Verge has announced the new global phone, the global version called the Z3+ with a release date in June; Link
edit: include the Engadget link; Sony's Xperia Z3+ is a familiar flagship
Does the T-Mobile version have bootlpader unlock = yes?

I highly doubt that.
It is water proof and dust tight.....
The launching date of z4 have been delayed. Sony updates are very slow as after z2 they haven't update. The main drawback of z4 is Non-removable battery device, iIt doesn’t support Dual-sim and Battery capacity is very poor and it will drain fast.

Xperia Z4 phones launching all this week in Japan as planned. No issues reported.
Except for all the overheating...
sony's have a very good designed but screen performance not good. e.g. s6 as not good. unfortunately best device s6
Is there already a possibility of rooting/unlocking the phone?
I got my Z3+ world version yesterday... I like to root as soon as possible...
I find some problems with taking pictures under water... The phone starts doing crazy things as the water seems to activate the touchscreen in a strange way... When taking the phone out of the water, the touchscreen only can be reactivated after putting the phone in stand-by first...
Also the first time I wanted to shoot a picture, the app crashed right away stating that the phone was overheating...
Will contact SonyNL and T-Mobile for this, as I'm not really happy at the moment...

HOW TO ROOT:
First one should get root on an old firmware with @ZyZ tool.
Install Dual boot recovery.
Use latest .77 fw ftf *to create a pre-rooted firmware. You can use PRFCreator tool for this.
Get the pre-rooted firmware flashable.zip in your phone’s internal memory.
Now reboot into TWRP recovery by opening NDR Utils app
Flash the pre-rooted firmware.
Switch off the device. No need to reboot.
Now open the FlashTool and flash .77 fw – Excluding System.
Done

This won't work. The "old" firmware is usually KitKat, which we don't have on the Z3+. And NUT's dual recovery does not currently support Z3+.

MM IS COMING ;p
Update of update:
Tobia gives us a nice present (.151):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66838326
Actually, isn't this beta test limited to Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, at least initially? Also, I don't think it's begun yet.
FYI:
Regarding Xperia Beta Program
This is a pure quality beta software of the official software for Z2/Z3/Z3c Marshmallow update to check stability before launch. The setup is the same as in this concept with invites, beta feedback application and a closed forum. This quality beta will be available only in a few selected markets: Italy, Spain and Netherlands.*
The CONCEPT SOFTWARE is a separate thing, something with a much longer horizon, something with much more experiments in it, something unique in the history of SONY Mobile we don't know how this concept will turn out in the end but we (in the team) have great plans for it!
Xperia Beta Program - Quality beta test of official software
This Concept - Experimental consumer driven software
But if this is true why are we not releasing anything right now?
Well we are currently working on the next release and there are some changes that has stopped us in the quality testing. Right now we are working on understanding/fixing this. We will probably not make a release during this week but hopefully next week if all goes well.

I know that they have a limited number of beta testers (somewhere around 1000). But anyway if I am lucky to be able to get to the beta testing I'll try to extract the ftf and post it here

They should use XDAdev forum membership and participation as a qualification, but maybe that's built in to the selection process since people who lurk around these forums usually hear about the beta link before ordinary mortals do.
I am from the Netherlands but on Google Play this Beta tells me it is incompatible with any of my devices (and one of those any is my D5803)

Check your current firmware customization. It has to be the NL version
Firmware customisation, euh well, not language I think.
I downloaded a Marsmallow ftf that's it.
Where do I find my Firmware customisation?

You'll need to be on official Sony LP ftf and from one of the 3 countries listed previously to sign up officially via play store!
...... If your not able to sign up via playstore. you can download the apk from the link below, install and sign up.... Maybe you will be selected to take part??

Do they check customization only ? or also the IMEI must be from NL ?
Flashing a NL firmware would allow us to download the app ..?

for the concept project just the customization was enough, so first try with that only. no need to flash a different FW, just change the customization in build.prop if you are rooted!
also, for downloading the app, check the link just 3 posts above yours....
