I couldn't resist the lure of the Nexus 5. I bought the red one and a clear bumper case, and I'm ready to rock and roll. The moto g has been great for the short time I've used it, but I always really wanted the nexus 5. I'm going to be selling the G on swappa or craigslist as soon as my N5 is delivered. Take care and have fun guys, off to the Nexus 5 section of xda.

Good luck with your new nexus 5...
Sent from my XT1033 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Enjoy it, I'd be all over it if I could run it on verizon. Good phone for the money.
Man good luck.. But I have heard that nexus 5 have battery issues. Still have a thought over it. My moto g gives battery backup of more than 1.5 days with little use ... and with heavy use its 10 hours... Still best.

To me, the Nexus 5 is a very nice phone. I ended up with the Moto G and I'm happy with it. The cost difference is what made the final decision for me but the N5 ended up 2nd on my list of all the phones I considered. I know you'll enjoy it.
Yeah actually I was even planning to buy nexus 5... But cost turned me towards moto g... With some compromise.

Aside from not supporting their LTE freq it does support cdma, if they let you activate it of course...

I was in the same boat. Ultimately, the cost/benefit analysis of the MotoG vs. N5 swayed in favor of the MotoG. The better battery life and physical size/form factor combined with price outweighed what I'd be giving up by not choosing the N5 -- LTE, bigger screen (which is a negative for me), and NFC.

To each their own. That's why they make a million kind of phones. Sometimes you are just drawn towards something and can't resist. The N5 was that for me. I actually really like the Moto G and it does everything I need. But, MUST HAVE NEXUS 5. I'm not gonna fight it any more. In the end, it's what makes us happy. Sometimes cost/benefit equations don't always win. Who says you always need to be logical?

Oh, I completely understand. I LOVE the Nexus 5. It would be, no question, my phone after the MotoG. It just boiled down to the fact that I have smaller hands, and I'm rarely away from WiFi for very long so the lack of LTE isn't a big issue especially since T-Mobile's HSPA+ speeds are more than adequate for me. But..yeah...nothing against the N5 -- it's an amazing device! Enjoy your new baby!

While N5 is a very good phone, it's far from the best anymore...
Red nexus? It's orange...
I also looked at Nexus, but i decided to buy a cheap phone like Moto g.
I always carry with me my (great) LG tablet, so any phone i would buy would spent most of the time in my pocket or laying on the desk.

I consider it the best. Who cares if the htc one is a few mhz faster. You won't notice any difference in real world usage. Why would say it's not the best? It's a matter of opinion. Even if I had millions of dollars, the N5 would be my phone of choice. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

It's bright red, buddy. Go to the Google Play store and see for yourself. The pic I posted is not an accurate representation.
Congrats on your n5  I think it's the sexiest phone out there! And I totally agree with what you said about real life usage, even s4 is much better than moto g on paper but it turns out there's no difference in performance (at least not relevant)

make sure to include the words "in my opinion", if you don't want people correcting you buddy. No expandable storage,non-removable battery, average camera,no 4k video recording, below average battery life... that's your best smartphone. It's good for the price tag if one can live with the above mentioned shortcomings.
I got em both and for some reason I find the moto g way more convenient to use, especially the battery life is almost double of the N5.
Anyway, you can't go wrong by going for the N5. gl.

Well,
See this article

Its not going to be a moto device.
Lg gets a bad rap in the states. All they have ever really sold here is budget phones and that is what people know.
IMHO anybody that is against lg making this device based off the internals of the optimus g is out of their damn minds. Or just some brand name loyal fanboy trolls.
Sure there where always people that will that prefer amoled screen and that is legitimate.
But a nexus based of those internals is simply great IMHO. It is truly some of the best if not the best components out period. I welcome the change to making a nexus device on true bleeding edge components.
I don't wanna hear crap from OEM fanboys myself. HTC guys where not happy about Samsung doing this device. Samsung guys whine about the rumors of HTC making the next one.
The optimus g is a monster. A nexus phone based of it is great.
Also, I heard that LG makes excellent display hardware as well, so the amoled may not be sorely missed as others are wont to expect.
Posted using xda mobile app
I will buy it regardless who makes it. Ultimately all that matters is who is overseeing the development of it which will be Google.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk 2
For amoled lovers they will miss it. Some love the looks of those displays and its their preference. Also being able to adjust colors in the kernel some love. Even if another display is better in just about every way some just prefer amoled.
I am not one of them. My buddy has a HTC one x and I love that screen.
If anybody is curious about what kind you like most. Go to a sprint store and look at gnex/gs3/evo lte. Or att and one x /sg3 and compare.
More rumors flying.. Sealed phone.. That may be a complete deal breaker. I refuse to own a phone I can't replace the battery.

if this is true, it might definately be a deal breaker for alot of people
As phones become thinner it seem sealed is the trend. If the battery capacity is at least 2500mah I don't think there will be as much uproar. (edit: apparently the lg optimus g has 2100mah battery, also 32gb internal storage and no microsd.)
Despite Google bought Motorola mobile division, Motorola phones are locked down and tends the be least updated Android phones, so its a good thing it won't be Motorola branded to me.
i really don't care who makes it as long as it has a a15 series cpu 32gb of storage and if possible retina screen which is better than amoled in both batery an color

I don't see the problem with LG. I had the LG shine and it was very well built, with a metal back and high quality screen, etc. Of course this wasn't a smart phone and that phone came out ages ago. I'm curious to see what LG does with the nexus though.
I welcome them.
I honestly could care less who makes it. LG, Samsung, HTC, etc. As long as I like the look and more importantly the specs! This is what I base all my tech purchases on. Laptops, phones, everything. I buy the best that I can afford at the time or wait so I can save to get even better. It should have at least the same specs as the S3. I would of course like more but that may be asking to much. I am a Nexus buyer. I don't want an S3 because it isn't the Nexus line. I will probably get this phone since I skipped the GNex, regardless of whos name is on it.
I hope the rumors are true. I want a sony nexus so bad!! I miss my xperia
I also read somewhere that there might be more than one manufacturer for the Nexus..

This not be good. The nexus must be just one...not like 1538 Galaxy devices.
The only reason why iPhone is so popular is because is just one top device and the nexus must be just one too. Not important who make it, but if realy make more devices and worse, more manufacturer, he kill the exclusivity of that device.

Not to mention further add to the problem of fragmentation of the platform. It will be harder to push updates for more than one new Nexus, not to mention the older Nexus phones like the crespo and maguro.

Hey all,
I've recently started looking for a new phone and of course I have been looking at the Nexus 4, but another phone that crossed my mind is the Optimus G, because there's a (AOSP) ThinkingBridge rom available for it! The better things about the Optimus G are the 13 megapixel camera, 32 gb storage and a bigger screen (as there are capacitive buttons, and not the on-screen buttons which you of olcourse can disable, but I don't like that). The Nexus 4 though looks better, has bigger forum support and is cheaper (only 19 euros/ 30 dollars?, so that's no major difference). Please help me decide and tell me if there are any other phones you advise me to take a look at!
Thanks!
Me Gusta!
PS. I didn't know if I had to post this here or at the Q&A section or here, so sorry if I was wrong
Or the Oppo Find 5?

If you can live with 3G network speeds and don't get to drop your phone often, get the nexus 4. Otherwise get the optimus g or any other Qualcomm snapdragon phone. Its the Qualcomm year. Best soc, with best support. I personally like the HTC one but its pricey.
Coming from a nexus s, you must understand the advantages of nexus devices. Plus, the nexus 4 is beautiful, and fast. Its fast. Did I mention how fast it is? Only downside, you need a custom kernel to get the most out of its battery.

Live with less storadge, and buy the Nexus 4, by what I saw LG has the slowest rate of sowtware updates ever, so now you will not feel bad because it's new but in a year or two you will noitice the difference between a Nexus and others, for me if 16Gb on the Nexus S are sufficient (not impresive but sufficient) then 16Gb wil be enough on the Nexus 4 aswell, do what you want but keep in mind that lg doesent always respect it's costumers, Google does!

I am in the same boat as OP and I am inclining towards Optimus G with the hope that XDA will be my source of latest android versions. My inclination towads Optimus G is mainly because of 32GB storage and LTE+FM Radio. Only advantage of Nexus 4 is prompt updates by Google, which I hope is catered somewhat with XDA support.

LG has announced the "successors" to our tablet. They feature worse specs in every aspect, that means we have nothing to upgrade to!
LG has took a great step with the original (our) G Pad and made a great premium tablet, but because it didn't sell enough they decided to go with the samsung way to produce a crappy tablet with a cheap (yet overpriced) price.

It's far worse than that....
They know they are not capable of competing with Samsung or Apple on the high end and with the HTC built Nexus 8 about to arrive and dominate the Middle / Upper Middle class range.. LG has done the wise thing and put themselves back in the class consisting of tablets like the Lenovo A10, Asus MeMO FHD 10, Acer Iconia A-130 etc..
LG has no desire to and are not capable of running with the big dogs at the upper end of the tablet spectrum.. Thus the V700, V500 and V400.. Hey, at least they'll have something on the shelves.

REQUOTE: ...did not sell enough - That's their own doing. When it was first announced, I *really* wanted one of these and would have happily paid a premium full asking price on day 1, but up here in Canada this was total vapourware for the first 6 months of its release, and is only just recently available from our big electronic retailers as web-purchase only for $399, still vapourware if you want to see and hold the device, not available in-store, and I can assure you I'm NOT going to cough up that kind of coin sight unseen for something that by the time it became available to me was pretty much a year and a half old on specs.
For the current selling price, I'll be able to get one of the new Samsung 8.4" tabs with better-in-every-respect specs.
LG did this to themselves. If you want to sell your product, you have to actually make it available. Samsung has that figured out, I can walk into *any* local store, drugstores included, and physically see, try and purchase a full range of their plethora of devices. Despite *begging* LG via email for months, I was never able to actually get one of these in any way, and now that I can, it's way too late. Again I say, they did it themselves and really should think long and hard about their marketing and supply strategy.
Cheers

Yeah I need to figure out timing and priorities here. The maxx still meets most of my needs.
If DNG support comes in lollipop(and this phone) then it may become very hard to justify an upgrade right now. I am 99% sure that the raws these cameras can produce will allow us to take very very good photos. I was checking the specs on this camera and it does actually support binning a raw image file.
The camera is really my only complaint and if I am being honest, the camera is currently quite good.

well for a former moto x user, this device could be less comfortable when hold it in hand
especially the shape at the edge.
And, is it just me or someone else? I really hate the capacitance buttons, if it use a navigation bar i can simply just hide the button and use LMT to make my life easier, specifically on such large size of screen.

Its roughy the same size as the phone this forum is centered around which I can handle without trouble and actually consider to be ideal, some people seem to really hate capacitive buttons. I have a nexus with on screen buttons and I prefer having them off screen. To each their own I suppose.
I think that its targeted at a different type of user than the X.

Same here, the only negative about having capacitive button is that they can't be customized/ themed. But I'll take the extra screen real estate over that any day. The Turbo is a beast of a phone and I would love to have one. But I think I'll wait for the next generation phones running on 64-bit.

My local Verizon store is preparing to put them out for demo. Store clerk pulled them out the back to show me. All 3 look nice...the cloth looking back looked the best in person to me followed by the red and the standard one.
turned on
Can't wait to see it in all its glory once they're setup and ready to go.
You guys won't be disappointed

If I hadn't just picked up the Maxx I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Although... I could buy wheels for my car for the same price. [emoji58]
The Maxx has the same battery life and does simultaneous voice and date... Winner.

Broadly speaking I'm not sure that's very important to many people anymore. I do t know anyone that makes voice calls and i would be just fine with data only. Maybe if you were a tether user.

Well I love the idea of the Turbo but it MAY have same issue as the Droid 4 with ear speaker then gonna pass on it. Can't stand the idea if gaining root or even unlocked bootloader then lose it cause phone gets sent in for repairs and get an updated unrootable phone back. Happened with our Droid 4s twice luckily they came with bad ear speakers and the next 2 were old stock that we got root on.
But that's me not every one else.
Stopped by Verizon after getting a haircut. My XT1080M had significantly better 1X service (by over 5dbm) and slightly better LTE service.
With that said, the build quality of the turbo seems much better than the MAXX which is known for being a little creaky.

Yes, my maxx is creaky too And I even swapped out my original because of it, my gf who works at Verizon grabbed a ballistic nylon turbo and wow. It really is a great phone and I enjoy using it, but the more I use it the more I realize that there is nothing wrong with my maxx I'm having trouble justifying the upgrade.

Since you can't write to SD now anyways...it doesn't matter to me. Anyone else ready to ditch Samsung? Good chance the boot loader on a new Motorola won't be totally locked down like our N4 is. It's a super Moto X basically.
I would miss the removable battery and S pen too much. Also I'm not crazy about the screen size of the turbo

I do like the screen size but that 3900mAH battery sounds good. I'd be set for days
I am looking to pickup either the Note 4 for Turbo for the wife. She doesn't need/want the S-Pen. She wants a phone that's fast, easy to use and provides great pics even in low lights. She doesn't know what she wants and is not a tech person at all lol. Which phone do you think will have the better camera?

I'll wait for reviews to make a final judgement, but there is a very low chance the turbos camera is better then the note 4. None of the moto devices are known for their camera. Even the new moto x is weak still in that department.

The bootlader on the droid turbo will be locked down tighter than fort Knox. So don't expect to be rooting or flashing Roms on it. I do like the form factor and the materials they use. I also like the specs they included. For me the only gripes I have is the camera, I heard it was OK.

Why would they lock the boatloader down? Unlike Samsung, they aren't pitching phones to corporate America. Motorola's been fairly open recently with the Moto X too. Their forum already has a system dump waiting for Devs...
Also...the UI Motorola has been going with is waaaay better than TW

Trust me, I'm coming from a original Moto X and ive had my fair share of droid brand devices. The bootloader is not unlocking any time soon. Maybe someone will find a root exploit but that's about it.

The only reason I could think of is to help promote the N6 as being the only unlocked and truly customizable stock phone on VZW. VZW could make them have it locked from factory as well. We will see on Thursday when it is released.
Picked this up from a recent link about the announcement of the turbo.

Shoot. Guess we'll see in 2 days. I have my N4 but nothing about it endears me like my old Note 2 did.

Exactly. The turbo is very enticing. If root doesn't happen in the next couple of days for the note 4. Then I will definitely get the turbo using my exchange period from Verizon.

The 3900 nah battery sounds nice but nothing beats being able to swap batteries. The spare battery charging system is like the greatest accessory ever

I suppose... I usually was OK getting home on 10%. I work outside and to truly not have to worry about batteries at all would be sweet. This phone does well but it negates the screen when I have to crank the brightness down to nothing to make it to 10% at the end of the day
The Note 4 is a great device, and the battery is pretty good. But I find myself having to adjust frequently to save battery life were I can. With the turbo I don't think that would be the case. Plus it charges incredibly fast.

What do you mean "can't write on SD" ? You're talking about can't write anything onto external mirco SD card? I have a 32gb and everything works just fine...or maybe I'm not understanding you?
