Hello there, I recently asked a question in another thread regarding the matter stated in the title of this thread but thought maybe the question would gain more of a response in this section.
So yeah, how would you go by removing prima drivers from a zip (obviously a kernel came with them so the zip would be a kernel). Would one have to not include them when compiling or could one just remove certain files from the zip and then rebuilt the zip; and if so you could remove certain files, which specifically?
I did try a google search and didnt really find an answer.

I don't anything about prima drivers but I'd start by unzipping the zip using 7-zip. See if they are in there as an apk. If they are delete them and then re-zip what's left. Don't know if this is any help or not

First if all, thank you for responding!
I did try this, I unzipped a kernel and it had a system folder inside alongside the boot.img and meta-inf; the folder was used for the prima drivers.
I deleted the system folder and rezipped it all but after successfully flashing, I had no WiFi at all
So I think re flashed the stock 4.4 kernel and I gained WiFi back

HI I have downloaded the I5800XXJPM.zip firmware but it has only 3 files in it. Now i am confused how to flash it in Odin. I have flashed earlier using both the method like different files and one package but this file is different. I think i need to make a tar file before.
files that is under the zip file is: factoryfs.rfs, modem.bin and zImage.
Please suggest me the right way.
probably you open the tar file, those three files are inside the tar.

not its a zip file which has a size of 125 Mb. Previously I flashed my odin with both ways (one package and also with 4 different files) but both of those files were different. Can u give me a link so that I download the right file. Make sure its XXJPM coz i will then flash to Indroid 4.1, currently i m in XXJPF.

1% battery mod is working only with fugumod 2.4 kernals!!
what you want to know about themes../??
Just go to themes section download any theme you like..
read all the instructions..
generally there are two to three files which you have to replace with old files in system/framework folder.
some have themed apks also.
you have to replace them with old apks in system/app
that should be helpful!!
PS A thanks buttob do exist there if u dont know !!
The missing files were logo.png and cache.rfs.
I think that missing logo.png is not big deal, but I don't know what cahe.rfs is supposed to do.

Is there a way to remove kernel installation from a rom? Id like to try installing some fascinate GB roms over our Froyo kernel but most of the Fascinate GB roms include a kernel installation which I would like to avoid (for obvious reasons).
Basically what I want is a ROM only install no kernel.
Or better yet does anyone have our 2.2.2 kernel (just the kernel) in a flashable odin package?
Im only experimenting so no flaming..
Thanks
Yup, there is for either option too xP
Which option do you choose?

If you have the 2.2.2 kernel in an odin package I'll take that.. But for the sake of education I'll take both if you have the time to explain..
+1 for you
Thanks!
Alright, here is the 2.2.2 kernel only Odin Package Can you check now as a test to make sure it works? haha I didn't test it myself
http://www.mediafire.com/?qgkh35439o79sjl
and alright, here is how you can remove flashing the kernel in those packages...
First, open up the package in 7zip...
Delete the Kernel_Update folder, or something named closely to such, on the root of the zip
Then go to META-INF\com\google\android, and copy the updater-script to your desktop
open it up with Notepad++ or another advanced text editor (*Important!) and delete all the lines that look connected with the kernel...
The most important lines are "package_extract_dir("kernel_update"" and "run_program("/tmp/kernel_update/bmlwrite"" lines
K ill give it a try and let you know.

*Edit* Kernel works just fine.
I deleted the "updates" folder which contained a zImage file, redbend.ua, and modem.bin file. However in the META folder there were no instances of the word 'kernel' found. Just references to run the installer for the formentioned 'updates' folder which I deleted.
Should I just delete the 'zImage' file which I'm assuming is the kernel and leave the script to install the redbend.ua and modem.bin files?
Much Appreciated! :highfive:

Hi. I've always thought about this. Some people say something like this
Copy the file aroma-config and updater-script from META-INF\com\google\android\ from 3.1.1 rom.zip to 3.1.2 zip to the same path. He will say v3.1.1 during installation, but he will install 3.1.2 and you can select CLK again.

And what does it mean? When I edit zip file, it doesn't work. Is there a program for this?

Looks like the update (the zip) mentioned in the quote disables a feature on the HD2 that was present before that update. See here - shouldn't you have included that link
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166948&page=1286
To prevent disabling the feature, the quote-poster advises to run the update with the updater script (the script that does the actual updating) replaced by an old version. To do that, download both update versions and replace the mentioned files mentioned in the post in the newest version. Rezip and apply the update.
Not sure if this is a wise thing to do if you don't know more about updating, restoring etc... At least backup your data.
No, it's just when I zip it after update, cwm doesn't want to install this and sees as damaged rom.
But 7-zip can change files in archive no need to unzip all. So it works
Hi guys!
Ok. so I'm (really) not a developer, I'm just trying to make a flashable ZIP (+ custom recovery and root) from the latest D80230f_00.kdz (told you, not a dev', but, yeah, everyone should starts with something right?). and I got some difficulties at the end of the process: when trying to flash the zip file, I got a big red error (ok, just red) in TWRP: "E: failed to sysMapFIle /sdcard/rom_name.zip".
Have you ever met this error?
Furthermore, I got a question about the update-binary file (maybe it's link to the error?): I've downloaded @somboons KK_template_new.zip, but their was already an update-binary file in it. I've unziped the archive, write everything I need in the updater-script, and re-zip all (see attachments), I don't do anything except ziped all: should I do something else such as sign the archive or thing like this? 'cause I don't find anything accurate about update-binary file: I don't know if we have to take it from other archive, or if it's create during signing the archive.
Oh, yeah, the recovery.img is TWRP 2.8.7.1.
Anyway, all kind of help will be very appreciate.
Thanks in advance guys !

I would ask a mod to move your post to the Q&A where it belongs
I'm not sure if they move them or delete threads when they're not in the right sub forums.

Whenever u flash a zip for it needs to be signed, I would check or Ayysir's Android Kitchen, that's where I started my development from, I started just like u, only modifying touchwiz roms and repackaging them in flushable zoos format with android kitchen, if u need help let me know
P.S., Windows is NOT the platform to start development on lol, if I were u I'd start dual booting whatever machine ur using with a Linux OS of ur choice, for someone new like urself, I'd go with Ubuntu

First of all, thanks you so much for your fast answer. Yeah, I know Windows isn't the easiest platform to start development. Well, I've already have Ubuntu installed on VMWare, I just took screenshots on Windows .
Ok, so if I understood well, update-binary file is created during the signing step? That's why it doesn't work right now, 'cause I don't signed my ZIP.... Yeah ok I start to understand !
I'm gonna download Android Kitchen (this one right?) and start cooking !
Again, thanks you so much dude you make me more and more enthusiast about creating ROMs on Android.
I had 50pc japan version of s5(sc-04f), installed rom 'G900F.STOCK.FOR.SCL23.FULL.MINHQUAN'. The downside of this rom is that its pre-rooted. I managed to unroot it by goin in supersu & click 'full-unroot'. But i had multiple devices to flash, so is there a way for me to re-pack this firmware again after i unroot it? So that i could flash it to my other devices without root.

Your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

Generally, if it's 6.0.1 and rooted systemlessly, you need to replace boot.img with a stock one and remove SuperSU app from system.img.
This ROM intended to be flashed from TWRP, so it's an ext4 image.
You can mount it to a linux system on your PC and remove anything you want.
I havent done anything like this before. Could u give me some links or guides? My PC is running Windows 10.

Ok, here' a simpler way:
1. Make changes on one phone.
2. Make a TWRP backup of boot and system partitions.
3. Restore this backup on other phones. They must have TWRP installed, a 6.0.1 bootloader and modem.
You'll have to rename backup's folder path and to wipe cache/data/system before restore.
can i use winrar to extract & compile the rom, without linux? So that i will have a much faster flashing process for all other units..

Ok, I've managed to download that ROM at last.
The things look even simpler.
To prepare an "unrooted" ROM:
1. Download the zip form this post and unpack updater-script somewhere.
2. Make a copy of V3.G900F.STOCK.FOR.SCL23.FULL.MINHQUAN.zip, open it with Windows Explorer and replace V3.G900F.STOCK.FOR.SCL23.FULL.MINHQUAN.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script with the file you've unpacked from the attachment.
3. Try to flash ans see if it's what you need.
thx so much, already passed all units to the buyer. ill try that on next batch restock, may iknow if there's a way to get the service menu shortcode *#0*# to work again? This rom doesn't has the service menu.
