Hi everyone, my Nexus 4 that I have been using for last 3 weeks now has this problem that has been baffling me, I have tried everything to figure it out but no solution.
I set 30 seconds as Display sleep time but it gets reset back to 15 seconds randomly either after a charge or after some hours of standby. I have no idea why this is happening. I have no Battery Saver apps installed. Have BatteryBot Pro installed, it only tells the battery status and no battery save settings in it. Had removed BatteryBot Pro and tested for few days, still happening. So its not that. Any way of knowing why its happening. I did even try a factory reset one week back, still happening.
Please HELP.
i have no idea what you are asking. display sleep time? what is that? what are you trying to do?

I mean Settings>Display>Sleep
I choose 30 seconds or 1 minute of inactivity but it itself gets reset to 15 seconds.

4.2.2 Stock ROM, Unrooted no modifications at all.
I searched in lots of forums, no one has this problem so I suspect maybe some App causing this. How to figure out which app?
i tried, rasbean jelly rom, and it works fine on 30 seconds and 1 minute.
---------- Post added at 03:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:07 PM ----------
do you have any battery improvements apps? ironically, battery improvement apps use the battery juice that they are supposed to save.
I saw the same thing happen to my buddy's Galaxy S3 on 4.1.1
We have not been able to nail down the cause yet. It just randomly reset to 15 seconds and we don't know exactly when or why
I will continue to monitor his situation and add any info I come up with here
I do not have any such battery saver apps. Only have Battery Bot which just gives battery percentage, earlier had battery widget reborn, even with it had the same problem.
I have Avast antivirus installed and also Lightflow. I have now my doubts on these two. Lightflow I have had since Day 1 and this problem has been since the very beginning.
get rid of the antivirus app android does not need it. if someone says the opposite, they just dont know.

I have it only for the anti-theft features. They work pretty good and had kept it installed only for it. Shall remove it and check if the problems persist, although I installed it only last week and doubt its related to this. Shall give it a shot now.
Edit- I have uninstalled Avast now. Shall monitor now if anything is better.
After having removed Avast yesterday still the problem is persisting. Had this incident twice today. Any ideas how to resolve it??
Still having this problem. No idea what's causing it!
Also my phone has switched off automatically twice yesterday. And to switch it on required me to press the power button for 10 seconds. Otherwise it failed to switch on. Battery was around 70% when it switched off . Any clues for these problems??

@abhishekagrawal I am having the same problem on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 running a custom ROM. Although mine doesn't get reset to 15 seconds, per se. It somehow gets set to something much shorter, like maybe 5 seconds. When I go into the menu in settings, none of the options are selected and I have to re-select 30 seconds.
Did you ever figure out what was causing your problems? I assume it has to be some sort of app conflict. Maybe a lock screen widget?

Issues like that if these issues are only with you,it means that It's always some App messing with your phone
Same problem
I am also having this issue. Mine resets and I can't figure it out. I'm totally stock rooted on Nexus 4 running 4.2.2. I had the same problem after the 4.2 update.
I just unrooted and did a full factory reset and I still have the same problem.
Also having this problem on a stock Nexus 4 on Android 4.4.4, not rooted.

Same issue here, nexus 7, 4.4.4, unrooted, stock. No apps that I know of would be causing this. For me, I set the timeout time to anything other than 15 seconds. It will work with whatever I set it to, and even keep on restart, but the first time it reaches that timeout amount it will reset back to 15 seconds. I've tried just setting it to 30 minutes, with the idea I'd never actually reach it, but it also seems to randomly reset as well. It's driving me crazy.
I had the same problem since my Samsung Galaxy W. Never found the reason (default rom).
Now after a couple of years with Xperia Z. Still happening, came back to the forums and no answer.
However, I just found out in my case: the low battery mode was the problem.
Everytime the phone goes below 20%, the low battery mode will switch the screen off after 15 seconds. But it fails to restore to its original value after the phone is charged. I have changed the settings to "adapt to device settings" and so far it's worked.
Hi,
Everyone here, just got my new Galaxy Note 4 yesterday.
I have encountered this issue, the Note 4 will auto restart after not using it for a while, say 10 to 30 minutes it will auto restart. At first, I thought I was accidentally pressed the power button but I put it on my table not using it for a while it will auto restart.
Latest: I used the Note 4 to call my friend in the midst of the call, the phone auto restarted.
Till now, I still not yet install any program into the phone, still in its original condition.
Anyone here know what's wrong with my Note 4? or have experienced the similar problem in your other phone? How to solve it?
Could this hardware failure or software problem?
Thank you.

No problems here. I suggest you do a factory reset and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't, one of the apps you installed is the culprit. If it does, I think you need a replacement.

Thank you for your replied and suggested help.
In fact, I did one time factory reset but after that the Note 4 still auto restarted.
When the phone was in my hand from the shop till now I did not install any program into it.
Anyone know why the phone will auto restart?
Thank you
Go back with your phone where you bought it and ask for a new one!
Maybe a faulty unit. It's their fault. You can plead a compensation tho'.

i have the same problem.mine is not restarting every 30 min but it makes twice a day.sometimes it shutdowns. (no reboot)i factory reset problems still there.i am now got out my memory card and testing.

I am having the same issue, although I have installed some apps on my Note 4. Also, I tried uninstalling apps, and changed some settings. Every time it auto restarts, it reverts back to the settings from before, and shows all of the apps back on the device. I'm not sure what is going on with it, but it is extremely irritating. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm using the device or not. It's completely random.
Check to make sure your battery is seated properly (no loose contacts). Otherwise, it might be a faulty unit. A large batch of Nexus 7s had a similar issue and they all had to be sent in for a warranty repair.
after i removed my sd card and tested for 2 days no random restart and shutdowns.interesting.

Note 4 random rebooting
Greetings all,
I have had my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 for a little over a week and I absolutely love it except for the random reboots. The phone reboots randomly, often at at night while on the charger. That is really bad because everytime it does, it wakes me with the T-mobile jingle. I have started muting the audio at night to avoid being awakened by this but that means I cannt be reached by phone while it's muted. I have cleared the cache several times with no improvement and I have done a factory reset once and the problem persists. It seems entirely random. There was one day where I had no reboots. Most days it's a couple or so and one night it rebooted about 5 times durring the night wrecking my sleep. I do use an memory card and I just removed it today as a test. So far no reboots but it's only been a couple of hours so far. This is a significant problem and any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, I will post any progress I am able to make to this forum.
Thanks

Greetings again,
I returned my Note 4 to T-Mobile and got a brand new phone, and sim card. I have all my software loaded and configured as with the old Note 4 and it's been about 36 hours now with no reboot. If it doesn't happen in the next couple of days or so, I will probably be pretty confident that the problem is solved. I'll keep you updated.
OP, is it rooted? I have the unbranded Note 4 (SM-N910H), I've had mine rooted for 2 weeks and it kept randomly rebooting twice or so every 1-2 days, now I've removed the root and everything seems to be working fine with no reboots since 1 week. I hope this helps.
P.S. I've rooted using the CF Auto root.
Anyone knows why the root was causing random reboots for me? I've tried with knox disabled and enabled and with both options I get the same reboots.
Edit: Forgot to say that most of the random reboots happened while the phone was idle (screen off)
Thanks.
note 4 restarting
I have the same issue .. my note 4 is auto restarting... i use gear s all the time bu connecting it with note 4 via bluetooth and the phone randomly auto restarting .. yesrterday i didn't connect the gear s all the day and the phone works all the day fine and it didn't restart .. so i really don't know what is causing this problem ! Anyone can help?
Frustrating
I have a similar issue with the Note 4.
A few back, it randomly restarted and I lost half of my contacts and settings. I thought it was a one-off occurrence and re installed all my contacts and settings. Today, it kept restarting and hasn't started again. I called ATT and have asked for a replacement.
Hope the new one shapes up better than this. It sounds like there is a hardware defect in a lot of the phones.
Same here N910CQ, brand new one...
Hi Guys,
i got freezes when i charge it overnight (its connected to the original charger the whole night). I only can do a hard reset to use my device again because the touch-screen doesnt work then. This is very annoying because i use my device with Alarm to get up in the morning.
I already did a few clean installs (Cyanogenod Snapshots and Danvdh's Google Edition), wiped all caches and formated all data and caches aswell. I still got freezes. I get them from waking up my device (mostly in the morning between 5-6 am). All i see is a exclamation mark when i turn on the display. Then its frozen and i cant anything.
I already tried a few Modems and Kernels to test, but still freezes...
I use Modem I9505XXUGNK4 atm.
Any ideas ??? I really Need help with this !!!
Thanks

Have you tried the new 5.0 gpe from danvh? There was an issue with the charging animation and reboots.
yes, i got Dan's 5.0 gpe at the moment 12.17.2014
Dumb question, did you clear /system in between flashes as well?
Yes, i formated System and Cache + i wiped everything too
You should flash the latest stock firmware and see if the issue persists. If yes, try a different charger. If the problem still persists, I think it's a hardware problem. Probably battery or motherboard.
The Problem is only between 5-6 am. The whole day i got no Problems Should be a Problem with my Router maybe ?
i got no resets in my Settings there. maybe my Provider is doing a reset every day between 5-6 am and my device freezes then. i could try airplane mode too to test, right ?
I bought a new charger and battery today (both original). Maybe thats the problem.
i got News guys, i turned off wifi overnight an didnt plugged the charger to my device this night. No freeze !!! Yay !!!
So it only could be, charger, battery or Wifi, right ?
ok, i had a freeze at work a while ago. but i got no wifi or charger there... now i dont know what to do
Does it behave like this?:
You pick up the phone (it is in deepsleep),try to turn the screen on,it goes on,you try to unlock the screen and it just stops reacting to anything and turns the screen off after 20-30seconds?

Hy people, i have the same problem, but is not a specific hour when it freez, yesterday i picked up the phone and when i unlocked the screen, it freezed, but i don.t wait 30sec, i just lock/unlock it again and it work fine. The other problem was overheating..
and randomly restarting but i think i fixed it with a factory reset. What i want to tell now is that i installed "Root booster" before all these problemsc ocured. After it played with the kernel, do you all thing it might not restored the original settings? My phone is randomly heating sice i installed that **** on it...(even if i do factory reset)
Ps: i have a stock kernel/gt_505
Or the battery is guilty? It's draing pretty fast, after a day of use i put it to charge

Hy, i haved the same problem, but what i did yesterday solved that. I hope this steps will help you:
1. Enter in Recovery Mode and select wipe data/factory reset
2. Clear cache partition
3. Go in Settings/More/App Manager and search for Touchwiz Home
4. Force stop then Clear data
5. Withouth exit from settings, restart your phone
6. When phone is on, screen will be black and will ask you witch program you wanna use, select Touchwiz home then press "always"
After this steps, i solved the problem for my phone, but another thing i done after that is delete all knox files with Titanium backup.
I hope this steps myght help you.
Thanks guys, but i got a nexus 5 now. Bye Samsung. Thanks anyway for help.
I tried posting this in the Sprint thread but haven't gotten any answers yet so perhaps I'll have better luck here. I pasted both posts to show the initial problem and what I did (essentially I factory reset). I'm still having the same problem where my phone will freeze while I'm charging it (about 2-3 times/week) requiring a battery pull. Anybody else seeing this problem or have suggestions on what I should try? Thanks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Twice this week my alarm didn't go off (luckily I set a backup today) because sometime throughout the night something happened. When I woke up the phone was frozen on the yellow Sprint Spark startup screen. I needed to pull the battery and everything started up fine. I updated to Lollipop about 2 weeks ago which is where I'm guessing the issues stem from.
Is there anything I should try other than restoring to factory and starting over? I'd prefer to not have to wipe everything from my phone but these issues are becoming problematic. I am not rooted.
Thanks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So I ended up doing a factory reset and while the phone certainly started running faster with better battery performance after the reset I'm still having this issue. I would say it occurs 2-3 times a week. It has only occurred overnight which is typically when I charge my phone so I'm pretty sure it is related to being left connected to the charger. The majority of the times I will wake up with a dim yellow Sprint screen and everything else frozen though occasionally the screen will be black with the led notification light red. In both situations the screen will not respond to any button pushes or holds and I need to pull the battery and then everything will start up fine.
Does anybody have any suggestions here on what I should do? I guess I can try and restore one more time and see but I don't really know why it would be different and it is certainly a pain to keep restoring the phone and losing all my settings. I definitely don't want to root now since I believe that voids the warranty and if I can't figure anything out with this I'll certainly be requesting a new phone from Sprint. Before I start dealing with Sprint though I thought I would check here first. Through all my searches on the internet I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this problem.
Thanks.

Hi there. I have a Canadian Note 4 (W8) with Bell, and I am having identical issues.
While charging over night, I find my phone stuck on "Samsung" logo, with the bubble animal still running. Holding down the power button does nothing and the only work around is the battery pull. I noticed that it also gets warm (assuming from the screen on time?)
First tried cache wipe - no fix
Factory reset - no fix
Cache wipe again - no fix
Aaaand today I came into work late

Definitely after the upgrade.
While on KitKat, it never happened (1 month ownership). But after upgrading to lollipop, it has happened 4 times (6 nights since lollipop).
Have you figured anything out with your situation? Woke up this morning to my backup alarm and the Yellow Sprint screen on my phone.
I guess I'll have to try another factory reset and if it still happens try and get a replacement. It just doesn't seem widespread enough of an issue to be a software bug with 5.0.1.
Very frustrated. I did another factory reset but the issue still plagues my device. It still only occurs once or twice a week but when I hear my old clock radio alarm in the morning I know when I look over I'll see the yellow frozen Sprint Spark screen. I am completely out of ideas and guess I will need to have it replaced under warranty. I'm hoping Sprint won't give me a hard time as this will be very hard to demonstrate.
It definitely appears to be a software issue as it never happened before I upgraded to Lollipop but there must be more to it or others would be complaining.
If anybody has ideas please let me know. Thanks.
Response to Note 4 Freeezing while charging
I have found that after turning the quick charge feature off the problem is not happening. Hopefully this is fixed in 5.1
I'm having the same issue even after turning quick charge off..def a lollipop bug, never experienced this on kk.
I know its not the BEST option, but after taking the update to lollipop, sometimes left over kitkat files can make the system poop out. Sometimes a factory reset will take care of the leftovers. But of course, then you have to set your phone up again
If you've tried this or plan to to, let us know the results.
(When i first took the update, my heartrate monitor sensor was always on, so i did a factory reset and it fixed my problem).
Solved with workaround!!!
I faced this "sleep of death" too after updating to Lollipop. I had to pull out the battery almost every time after charging. Very annoying! I noticed though that my phone never froze in my car while charging. Thinking about the difference I realised that I keep my phone awake in the car while charging using Macrodroid (which I love anyway to automise all kinds of things). I made a simple macro which keeps my phone awake while charging and another one that returns the phone to normal while on battery.
While charging: Trigger: Power Connected; Actions: Keep Device Awake enabled & Screen Off, Constraints: None
On Battery: Trigger: Power Disconnected; Actions: Keep Device Awake disabled & Screen Off, Constraints: None
Off course there are alternatives available to Macrodroid that should be able to do the same.
My problems are solved, with and without fast charging. I hope this will help some of you as well.
same problem here
Ive tried turning off fast charging option on the powersaving mode
And also tried the option on developer mode, the "keep device awake while charging"
And even flashing dofferent firmwares from sammobile through ODIN and installed custom roms. These options doesnt resolve the issues on freezing while charging..
I think turnong off your device while charging is the only option..
Im using note4 N910C..

Thanks a lot, Mate. I'm trying your workaround now. Will report later if it works on my phone. BTW, so, are you sure it is a just a system issue? Definitely, isn't a hardware problem? Did you fix it, after your post -a month ago-, installing, for example, lollipop 5.1.1 or Cyanogenmod 12.1? I'm on 5.0.1, SimpleRom V4. Of course, mi device, N910C, is rooted.
Thanks again.
With lollipop 5.1.1 the problem is solved for me, even without this workaround.

I'm having similar issues as you guys. I found out that my phone will only perform normally when I charge it with my laptop USB port which I think is around 0.5amps. Anything above that, even a 1amp charger would cause the phone to freeze, reboot and turn off and not turn back on. The phone has been in repair 4 times and the problem is still there. Now every night I'm forced to charge my phone with my laptop which takes an age instead of the fast charger that came out of the box.
Currently my phone is still freezing and rebooting when I'm out and about and the only way I can get it to perform normally is when I plug it into my laptop. This normal functioning would only last whilst the phone is plugged in.
This is my first post on this forum. I searched around here for a solution, didn't really find one matching my problem. I am not a phone wizard or anything like that either. So I'll try my best explaining my problem.
First things first:
Phone: Note 4
Model #: SM-N910T
Android Version: 5.1.1
Rom: Stock Rom
Rooted: Rooted Once and used a custom Stock T Mobile Rom Once.
Here's the ROM I used at the time: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...10tuvu1cog2-debloated-deodexed-stock-t3175406
Recently I So recently my phone out of the blue started lagging, freezing, and restarting itself. I didn't download any applications or anything like that for it to freeze up. I was currently then on the custom ROM I have mentioned above and it was the updated version. I have tried everything to my knowledge to try and fix the problem. I have tried going back to stock T mobile ROM (currently on stock rom now) through odin and stuff. After all that, it was still lagging, freezing, and restarting etc... Ran it through safe mode and the only problem in safe mode is that the lag is gone, but the restart is still there. Running in safe mode, if I would turn the screen off and back on to unlock my phone, there would be like 40% chance that it would restart after unlocking the phone and the phone would just restart normally. Rarely, whenever my phone would attempt to restart.. I would get a "Could not boot normally" message along with couples codes below and the image of android guy. Then I would have to take my battery out and attempt to restart the phone once again.. I've wiped the cache and everything in recovery mode, nothing helps at all. Also, the phone is in perfect condition. Hasn't been dropped, cracked, no water damage, or anything like that.
This place is my only hope to fix my phone before I will go out to buy another phone from the carrier.
Thank you all for taking your time to help me
u r not alone

Well I already got rid of my note 4 unfortunately before anyone could help me here so I had to upgrade my phone to note 5 and return note 4. While I still had my note 4, I realized something weird. While the phone was lagging and crashing etc.. When I had it plugged in for charge it would work perfectly fine. No lag, it wouldn't freeze up or restart (had it running perfect for 7 hours). It was like my phone was brand new again. As soon as I unplugged it from the charger, few minutes in and it was back to restarting and all that. I never knew why it did that.
Anyone know why this mightve happened?
Might be the battery though
I thought that too. I tried my brothers note 4 battery for awhile and it worked for a little bit and then it started doing the same thing even on his battery. Shrugs.

In the COH update iteration there is an annoying bug that affect fingerprint.
The bug causing the phone to restart, lagging & closing all apps randomly when the fingerprint is set.
May be this one is also the same.
Try to disable all fingerprint related settings.

I never used finger print scanning on my Note 4. Always disabled.
