Hi,
I can't seem to root my new galaxy note 3. I am using an international device with 4.4.2 KitKat. During the cache.img process Odin gives an error and softbricks my device. What am I doing wrong here?
(SM-N9000Q
Baseband: N9000QJVUDNB1)
Thanks
*Edit: Sorry about the typo, it's 4.4.2 not 4.2.2

What rooting method did you use?
Why nobody has time to state relevant info when asking for help
I don't know, maybe the same reason why people have attitude when they clearly offer no help at all.
Anyhow, I did not specify it because I did not know there were several methods. I used Odin and CF-Auto for n900 devices. Is there a more reliable way to root Kitkat devices?

I did exactly that with two different Odin versions. The installation got stuck at "cache.img" and failed both times. I used to have an SIII and I thought I knew my way around android and rooting, but apparently not. I'm completely lost here.

You could flash a custom recovery with Odin and then flash superSU.zip in that recovery, that would get you rooted too Link cwm recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454079.

Better check the CWM site i gave you before you start flashing if the N900Q is supported, i don`t see that specific model listed in there as it is listed for Turkey only. I see support for the N900S,T,W but not Q!

Once you have rooted your phone, you have to delete a file in system, wich overwrites the custom recovery with the original. But i don't remember wich file it is. I think Google know it.:cyclops:
EDIT: I found it: you need a root Explorer. Go to system/etc and delete "install-recovery.sh"
After that, flash a custom recovery. Now it should work.
What also helps sometimes is to uncheck "auto-reboot" in Odin.
When the flashing is finished, you just hold the power button for 10 sec (until it reboots).

Hi,
I was trying to root my N9005 according to the video tutorial posted above, Everything went OK, except the point where it says "Recovery Booting... Recovery is not seandroid enforcing Set warrenty bit: recovery" and it just stays there, it's been there for around 10 minutes now. I checked the Auto Reboot option on Odin.
Any ideas?
Try flashing recovery from odin of kitkat. It might have flashed recovery for 4.3

maybe u can check on this thread. coz, chainfire make a different cf auto root, for 4.4 and 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
SM-N9005 (International Qualcomm): CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
(only works on 4.4 bootloaders, if you're still on 4.3 use the old version which you can find here: http://d-h.st/J32)

The phone was running 4.3 before I attempted to root it. I rooted it with the 4.4.2 link, is there a way to go back? Do I just repeat the process again with the 4.3 root?

Nope What firmware should I update?
Your note 3 N9005 or N900? After that go to samsung update website or sammobile to download your firmware; refer to your phone 1st.

N9005, but I fixed it, I simply used Odin 1.87 to flash the phone again with the 4.3 rooting firmware, and everything was good.
Thanks for your help!

Hi All
I have rooted my note 3 with odin successfully, I was looking to install CWM but couldn't find the exact TAR file for the n9005 on lollipop 5.0.
I installed ROM manager which suggests there inst currently a compatible CWM I can use, the only device showing is hlte?
Does anyone have a link if one exists..
Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure hlte is supposed to work with N9005, N900A, N900T and N900P as well as N900W8. I think its unified for all snapdragon note 3s

You cannot / don't have to unlock a Samsung bootloader on SM-N9005. You use ODIN to flash the recovery and you are set. I would suggest this one btw. https://idlekernel.com/twrp/v6.6.5_2016_01_03/
That is incorrect it will fail when attempted
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
It's absolutely correct and the way I did it! SM-N9005 is NO US Verizon crap phone, it's OPEN for ANY modification and just causes KNOX 0x1! IF it's no N9005, then you are absolutley right, there are some variants from ATT and Verizon which are locked and you have to verify that.
