Hello everyone,
I just got the f3 this past weekend and proceeded to root it (using saferoot) and then installed the xposed framework and gravitybox. I used Gravitybox to make a few changes, but they were just to the statusbar and the volume rocker. I also deleted chrome, as it took up too much space. However, now I seem to have a problem with the single click headset button on my headphones.
I open my music app (playerpro), make sure 'headset override' is checked, but when I click the button, it goes straight to my phone app (or asks me to choose 'Phone' or 'Viber'.) I cannot get the headset button to play/pause or skip track w/double click. I have tried numerous headset controller apps and different music apps, but to no avail. These same headphones worked with my old phone running 4.0.3, but not this new one running 4.1.2.
After spending the last couple hours scouring the internet, I have come up empty. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it. I know it's not a huge issue, but it was a feature I used a lot. Thank you for your time.
EDIT: I just realized that this is the forum for the L3, but I cannot find one for my little f3. Mods, if there is a better place for this thread, please feel free to send this there.

Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.
My volume keeps getting set to silent. As a result, I get no notifications of anything going on with my phone.
A little background first:
This is my second HD2. I returned my first but decided I really liked this phone after all.
I do NOT have BsB tweaks installed. I think there is an option to kill ringer based on calendar with this app.
I installed PocketShield thinking it would lock the screen when placed in my pocket. The thought was that the volume rocker was getting hit before it locked if I forgot to manually lock the phone. Didn’t resolve my issue.
Last night I installed VolumeX. This allowed me to remap my volume rocker buttons. At least now I know it’s not the volume rocker getting bumped.
So this morning on my drive into work it happened again. I checked the phone before I left and it was in vibrate. When I got to work it was in silent. The only thing that happened on the drive was that it attached to my car Bluetooth. But I’ve had this happen on multiple occasions without the Bluetooth piece.
Any thoughts on why this might be happening or things to check would be appreciated.
You aren't hitting vibrate then setting the phone down immediately on it's face are you? I've found that setting it on it's face before it's locked launches things...
I do believe it's the bluetooth that'll be doing that. Connecting and disconnecting bluetooth headsets and car kits changes the sound profile - annoys me too, but I'm pretty sure it's standard for WinMosince my Omnia and Titan did the same thing IIRC.
Hello all,
Forgive me if this has already been asked (I tried my best to search for similar questions before posting this)...
Does anyone know how to make the wired headset button (a.k.a the Media Button) work with music player apps?
I’ve tried many… the button doesn’t work with any. I want the button to be able to skip, play, pause, etc. music like an iPhone would with its wired headset. Other Android phones can do this, but the Epic 4Gs headset button just brings up the contacts list when you press it (it also ends calls).
Thanks,
Ryan
No fix yet. Hopefully sammy fixes this with froyo or some devs fix this. I reccomend emailing samsung too and asking for them to fix this. Bluetooth controls work tho.

Ravizzle, thanks for replying. I was afraid of that. I haven't tried bluetooth yet though.
Do you (or anyone else here) have any recommendations for bluetooth controllers? I really need to be able to change tracks without touching or turning on the phone.
Thanks again,
Ryan
I bought bluetooth stereo headphones from ebay for 25 bucks. The model is LG hbs

You can remap the keybinding for the headset button, there is a discussion on android central (I can't post the link)
Basically edit /system/usr/keylayout/sec_jack.kl and change SEND_END to HEADSETHOOK (need to be rooted)
Would be nice if szomeone can mke a oneclick or app to do this

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely take a look at that headset.

That seems promising. Thanks for posting it. I haven't rooted yet, but to fix this issue I probably will now. I'll try it and post results some time tomorrow.

I can do this actually. It shouldn't be too difficult, but as previously stated, it would probably be a root-only app. I'm going to put this and other hacks/tweaks together into one app. I'll post the .apk and source code up on Google code too... again, probably tomorrow.
Ryan
That would be awesome man!

I have tried using head phone button but I'm not getting any response. My button does nothing. I can't bring up contact or anything. Do I have faulty headphone?

This kind of works, though it still seems to be a bit buggy. When headset is connected and music is paused hitting the power button shut off/lock the phone the music will start back up by itself without clicking the headset button. It happens with the stock music player and the music app by DoubleTwist for me.
If you do choose to do it this is what you get in stock music app: one press = play/pause, 2 quick presses = skip to next song and long press puts you in party shuffle mode (and it's hard to get back out of it since none of the menus show that you are in party shuffle. You have to turn party shuffle on then off for it to register it properly). In the music app by DoubleTwist you get play/pause with single click and nothing for 2 presses or long press.

This is odd, I don't see the same thing. In fact I forgot to mention that the headset button doesn't seem to do anything in the stock player for me, I've been using Cubed or PlayerPro and the functionality in both of the those is one press = play/pause, two presses = skip, long press = party shuffle (I actually never noticed this until you mentioned it).
And one more thing, if you change to HEADSETHOOK the button will no longer end calls while on the phone it will mute/unmute (I think this is more convenient anyway).

I guess I should have said I'm running the AOSP Magic v.3 rom with the Mix-Up kernel and am using a modified stock music app. I wonder if the rom has something to do with the music restarting itself.
EDIT: oddly enough the music doesn't restart when it's charging... curious
I've discovered that the music is restarting while the screen is locked and off because it's registering an event for both the key_down and key_up events (clicking down on the button as well as the 'click' as it comes back up after the first click). Still trying to figure out a way to negate the second click... I've tried using the WAKE and WAKE_DROPPED modifiers, but to no avail; yet. I'll keep experimenting.

I'll definitely try this when I get my phone back. I always change the keylayout on my android phones.

After clearing my dalvik (sp?) cache through clockwork, the issues I was having with this change have been resolved. Maybe some confusion with the binding in the cache was causing it, but it's working as expected now....
Hey guys,
sorry for starting a new thread, but I have searched the internet for days now and don't seem to be closer to a solution.
My problem is this: I am trying to use the (wired) headset that was included with my Galaxy S5 (GM-S900I) with any voice assistant (S-Voice, Google Now, whatever I can get to work).
While my phone is active / unlocked I can long-press the button on the headset to open S-Voice, however I do need to then press the "microphone" button or use the voice command (Hello Galaxy) to activate S-Voice (which should IMO be unneccessary, why else would I long-press the headset button?).
Once my phone is locked / in standby (with fingerprint lock), the screen lights up as soon as I long-press the button on my headset, yet nothing happens and no matter what I do, I can't get the device to listen to me / do anything.
I recently rooted my phone in order to try and fix this issue with eXpose modules etc., yet that also didn't help.
I also tried several apps including headset button controller and switch for S voice, but they dind't seem to help either.
Thank you so much for your help and suggestions, so far this forum has been more than awesome!
I have rooted my phone an year back and was using it without any issues. Now recently i wanted to cast the screen and installed some mirroring app. But then as it didn't work, i removed it. But then i observed that since then my phone is always going on speaker mode. In fact "Speaker On/Off" button has no effect at all while on the call.
Also bluetooth though detects the device, does not send out the audio signal to that device and remains on the speaker mode. Even headset after connecting shows the headset icon in the notification bar but music is played on speaker phone only.
Initially i thought it could be internal speaker issue but then even BT and headset are not working, which hints me that it could be software issue.
Has anyone faced something similar? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

You could try just rebooting your phone and or wiping your cache and dalvik cache in recovery but that probably won't do much but you could try. Last resort I would back up all my apps using Titanium Backup/ Super Backup and Google's own backup options in your settings then try a factory reset. Will wipe your phone except for internal data storage and ext SD card but might also correct what the issue is but it might not if this app somehow had root privileges and changed something in your system but didn't remove it when you uninstalled it. Wish I had a better option but that app did something to your phone I'm pretty sure of it. Make sure Google had your phone numbers and contacts backed up automatically or you will need to back those up separately with TB.

If those mirroring/casting apps used root access and modified some files in your ROM, Then you can try one thing, just navigate to /etc You should see mixer_paths.xml file, This file handles all sound routing, and i guess those apps modified this only. If this is the case, those apps definitely kept a backup of original file in same directory.
Thoctor and Sahil.bhardwaj, thank you very much for your help. Actually i tried factory reset but it didn't help. So i unrooted the phone and guess what? It started working perfect. Any ways i wanted to give it to my Dad who does not need unlocked phone so i can live with it now and can experiment with my newly bought Qiku 360!
Sahil bro, actually your comment come little late so didn't get the chance to check that out, but logically it makes sense as long as the developer of the app is well matured to take the backup of mixer_paths.xml or any system files for that matter.
