[Q] Slow Motion Feature like M8 or Z2? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a Nexus 4 and I'm about to sell it to buy a new phone. For me it's very important the camera on my phone. One of the features I've seen on the HTC M8 and Sony Z2, is the possibility to record a slow motion video and then edit it so I can choose which part in the video I want it in Slow motion and keep the rest as normal. I was wondering if this feature is available in the GS5 as that will make it to choose it.

well slow motion is definitely there (present on S4 as well and was demoed) and i believe it has ability to shoot it in 720P. as far as editing the clip, i believe you can do so since it was also present on the S4 (trim feature). Samsung wouldn't leave out these small differentiators against its competition.

Ok, so this Trim feature did the same in S4 as it does in the M8 and Z2 (timeshift feature)?

A review site posted a sample of the slow-mo feature. Its claiming 120fps at 720p but in typical Samsung fashion it looks like low res upscaled to 720p like the Note 3 and S4

60FPS at 1080p
1/4 speed at 720p
1/8 at 720p

I can't say if you can edit slow and fast motion together, sorry.

The Note 2 was the first one to incorporate the 240fps 1/8th speed, slow mo recording speed. So I am not sure if Sony or HTC had it first. Either way, it should be there on the S5. You might have to download an editor but correct me if it comes built in.

The S5 has the ability to shoot 720p (without upscale) with 120 fps.

I disagree. Every sample video I've seen looks 480p upscaled. Just as they claimed on the Note 2/3 (forget which) it is not truly 720p @ 120fps

720p at 120 FPS. Awesomeness!

Now that it's been a few more weeks since the S5 came out, does anyone know if it's possible to edit slow motion videos? Not with the current apps I know, but maybe with a MOD? or any new app on the market

Digging this thread up because i was wondering this also.
I always assumed that you captured the video with higher fps and then on the editor you could select which part you want to have slow motion, it makes for much better videos. Now looking in reviews it seems that is not case, but im not sure =/ Also, i was wondering if any mod or app came out during these past months that allowed that

[req] mod camera s4 - increase fps in slow motion

hello guys! we need a developer to mod stock room for you to succeed to increase the frame rate slow motion. It would be great that he had a frame rate of 120fps ..... good job! (Maybe you can change the build.pro?)
**** want the 30mbit recording mod
dev please make that happen record 1080p 30mibit
TW camera already has that function.
Not at 1080p, it can't.
Whilst this would be immensely cool, I'm not sure if the sensor child handle it.

Guys I mean a video recording in slow motion at 120 fps at 1280x720 with. Developers are able to make this change? It would be great to be able to record video in HD slow motion

well thats probably hardware fault, as its not easy to record in slow motion specially when theres not being many other phones which had this feature before, so they need to improve it, if thats possible idk
No sorry. Record to 800 x 450 Low Quality. I ask mod for recording to 1280x720 in Hight Quality. Thanks

Only the Octa version (i9500) can record in slow motion 1280x720, the i9505 is limited to 800x450.
It's most likely due to a different sensor (Exmor RS in i9500 vs Exmor R in i9505, though I'm not sure if the i9505 sensor has been confirmed yet ), or it could be due to the different CPU / GPU in the i9500.
I did not know. Thank you. you can create mods for i9505 for recording in HD?

I'm not sure the hardware of the i9505 is able to do that, and if it is, I really wonder why Samsung put such a limitation on the i9505 (it's actually one of the only differences in the camera app itself, if not the only one, so why would they do that?)
I guess you could try the app from the i9500 to make sure though

The i9500 can do 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 in 720p - 15 FPS.
Here's 1 video I made last month (1/8), though the focus isn't perfect, it was taken in the heat of the moment
I can try making another one later with more control on the focus.
I've split the video into 4 parts (.rar) since it's too big for an attachment, just unrar and it should work.

I don't have the odex file but here's the SamsungCamera2.apk from my phone (compressed in 3 files, it was too big to attach here).
Just unrar it and you should have the file.
Please press the Thanks button if I helped

Slow-Motion Capture

So I recently discovered that my wife's iPhone takes amazing slow-motion video. I've been doing some research and I'm not entirely sure that this is possible to do on the Nexus 5 because the frame rate on the iPhone slow-mo is 120fps and I'm not sure the N5's camera can actually do that. Is it possible? Are there apps that do this already? I am a volleyball coach and this would be extremely helpful. I've already tried the Coach's Eye App and while it is ok, it works with the standard video frame rate and thus produces video with lots of blur and choppiness. The functionality of the app is great but the video quality is lacking.
I think the N5 SoC is capable of 720p/120fps, but not sure the rest of the camera hardware can. If so, then maybe we'll see it in the future.

[Q] Nexus 4 Camera Improvement Topic

Hello Guys
We all know how poor is the AOSP's camera app by supporting features ( slow motion exc. ). And N4 has a bad video recording quality with 12mbps bitrate. We can improve it by a mod ( topic is at the second link i gave ) or with a program called LGCamera. Well there is no visible difference between 12mbps and 20mbps.
I made some research and found that these phones use the same Sony Exmor IMX111PQ image with N4.
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Active ( It supports slow motion feature )
- LG Optimus HD 4x
- LG Nexus 4
There are two topics i found that they are useful for this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...vs-nexus-4-camera-recording-v0-2-avc-t2159076
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/mod-increase-camera-audio-video-image-t2039553
How can we improve the Camera App ? Is there any port from Samsung Galaxy S4 Active ?
I would love slowmotion feature. Its awesome on iphone.
First of all at the brochure of IMX111PQ it says that the sensor can take 720p at 60FPS.
And we know examples of Snapdragon S4 Pro can take 720p 90FPS videos. So where is the problem ? I think it's defintly software limitations.
They share the same hardware but different camera drivers, that's one of the reasons we have such poor camera quality... mostly is bad-optimised drivers. (the sensor has some blame on this too).
Our hope is to get new camera drivers with the new Google Camera that has been announced some weeks ago, if not, it'll be more like another camera that you can find at playstore.
Well it can be the optical stuff also ( optical elements ). But its not only the video quality. The camera app is very stricted. There is no options to select.

Bump. I like my N4, and before making my decision on going on another phone, the only thing I do not like is the camera. Takes longer to focus, bad image quality (unless i photoshop afterwards) . So isn't there any way of improving it?

Nice i love watching stuff in slow mo...... hopefully they'll advance on this in future models, i wouldnt mind in a couple of years when i upgrade next, being able to shoot proper 300 fps slow mo from my phone, even something simple like a balloon popping looks awesome slowed down that much
wow you can record slow motion videos at 1440p quality thats awesome man.
my note 2 cannot record more than 480p

[REQUEST]Vibe Z2 Pro (K920) - 1080p/60fps

K920 has same camera sensor as Galaxy S5, but i can't record video in 1080p/60fps. In stock camera isn't setting frame rate. Do you know, how?
And slow motion (720p/120fps) is very sh*t.
Some update? Or mod? I try video record applications, but nothing run.
I have stock 4.4.2 with VibeUi (and clear android)
Thx
I just bought it. Will check and get back.
