Hi everyone
How does everyone do dev work for the u8800?
I previously made a custom rom for the u8150 with a custom kernel but I used the kitchen by dsixda. Is the kitchen usable for the 8800 or does everyone use scripts to customise it and old fashioned hacking?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Thanks
Paul

I haven't tried much. I had some hard times modifying updater.scriot, because it didn't have all required options. I think people here use scripts.
i have used it to make a custom rom for my u8800pro.
actually i have many many problems with the updater.script....so i can't install my rom.
Yeah, I guess it takes a lot of work for the updater script to get files and locations right.
Going to start playing and see what things look like.

i have changed many lines in the original updater.script made by dsixda kitchen (except symlinks) but it doesn't work.

ok, actually this is the problem with the updater.script:
CWM error message: format() expects 2args, got 3
i understand the reason of this error but another updater.script (for example genokolar's cm7 updater.script) has the same lines and it works.

I believe genokolar has also got a different updater-binary or whatever it is called. When building CM9, it builds something like that for me.
First, check bootable/recovery/updater/install.c, it might have definitions for the updater-script. On CM9, it gives format(fs_type, partition_type, location, fs_size), 4 parameters. Check what's said in yours.

Check this post. I think the recovery is messing up because AOSP has a different recovery.
Try this for example:
format("EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p12");
format("ext4", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p12");

If the rom is for personal use, is it possible to copy script and binary from other roms?

it is not possible because in the updater.script of a rom there are some commands (like "symlink") that are made only for that rom.

probably on modaco....
you need to use this perl script http://www.zebadger.com/android/scripts/split_updata.txt with this crc in the same directory http://www.zebadger.com/android/binary/crc
this is the original thread: http://android.modaco.com/topic/311344-repacking-updataapp-was-new-version-of-split-updatapl/
BTW, the problem is the updater.script
Hi everyone,
Need for you help and thank you very very much.
I am trying to learn to make a custom rom for i9502 but I met a problem.
I download offical CMG2 firmware and get the system.img and cache.img(for csc files), I forked kitchen git and patch it to support 9502(maybe not succeed...)
I made common stuff in kitchen like Root init.d deodex zipalign, disable startup sound and enable data app support, then build up the rom with kitchen.
But when I flash this rom, my phone fail to startup. It go to totally black(I am not sure black or just not boot) after the china unicom logo showed. I tried to wipe and flash other roms and my phone startup right, so I am sure it's the problem of my custom rom.
I can't make the adb logcat because it's just too fast to go black. Do you have any idea about this problem?
BTW:
after I flash that rom, when I try to reboot from the recovery(phliz recovery for i9500), there is not an warning for "disable offical recovery recover" nor "root".
I used the offical boot.img for the offical rom and unoffical recovery from phliz.
I attach my last failed updater-script as blew (I just use kitchen to build up the uncompressed offical rom without any other operation as root, deodex..etc).

what i did was download official rom and. install it using odin . it fixed my network problem. .
I am not a ROM cook expert. But I like to Deodex and make a very little changes keeping the taste of Samsung untouched.
I used dsixda kitchen to Deodex and build the ROM. However, I'm facing a problem to flash and from my search I found that there are 2 reasons may do this.
1. Updater - script format may not be Linux. I checked and it is Linux.
2. Issue with the script. Here is my problem and I couldn't figure out.
Can someone help.

hi guys,
before coming here, I searched the forum , but couldn't find the solution.
I have SM-G900H (3G variant of the Galaxy S5 ), I cooked a rom using Android Kitchen, but while Flashing it using latest Philz Recovery
it kept giving me STATUS 0 error. as you know it's related to update-binary.
I tried using updater-binary of a working rom, changing the updater-script but nothing worked.
I would appreciate any help to solve my issue.
Thank you.
this is the updater-script
