I used this way way back (genokolar partition) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112857 Im planning to go for ICS yesterday, i flash back the official partition, now my phone stuck at IDEOS logo. I tried wiping everything and reflash (tried MIUI,CM7,Elite SX still no luck). I use Miui before flashing the official partition. Im pretty sure i did what the step asked. Flash, no clear/wipe. Stuck at Ideos screen. Then i clear and wipe still the same. Then i go to the pink screen, restore back the original recovery and BOOT files, and flash back the official froyo, error at 2/2 update. I cant mount data in cmw. Tried factory reset in recovery but no luck, got error msg ( Mount data error ) using 4.0.0.5. I cant delete/wipe data.Keep giving me error mount data. Even in official recovery cant mount, got msg ( no such directories,Can't Mount @(or/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 ). Is this the problem ? How can i mount the data back?

Can't mount sd? Go to recovery, take your sd out, and put it back in. If that works, you try flahing the custom partition again (not the original partition). After that, try flashing a rom.
Edit: but try to flash the original again first. Make sure you flash it, reboot recovery, flash it again, reboot recovery, and then flash your rom.

Hello. I tried doing the 5.0 update to my tablet using the factory images. It failed on sending /system and now the whole tablet isn't working. I loaded Philz, to wipe the whole tablet, and it errors mounting /data and /system when attempting to wipe. I have tried wiping everything in every way, and nothing. I cannot get anything to flash on the tablet. Any help?

Ya man, its the same with me . Hope someone, reply's with a solution for it.
Maybe try with latrst version of twrp instead of Philz.
Flash TWRP
Wipe
Advanced wipe
Select system
Repair or change file system
Repair
Let it do its thing, then flash your ROM.
Send your thanks to @Paramesh96. He gave me this advice on my thread. Still haven't been able to flash factory images. But I can get my tablet up & running again with this guide
I could do this, but I have no way of moving a zip file to the tablet.

I flashed TWRP, went through the process, rebooted to bootloader, reflashed TWRP, reboot to recovery & mtp was enabled to access the sdcard
I have installed FreedomOS on my OnePlus 5. I'm not sure if this is related to FreedomOS, but when I try to make a backup in TWRP with data, system, and boot, it has an error with createTarFork() shortly after it gets to backing up data. It also says 'read only filesystem' when I try to open Terminal from Advanced and run 'cd /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/bad7d639 && rm -rf backup-name'. What can I do to fix this and why is this happening?
EDIT: I have 32GB storage left
I had error 255 when restoring the data partition on my elephone p9000, for me it was because it was a bad data write and it was corrupt.

Hi guy, i had the problem, try to flash blue spark recovery and retry restore, if rom bootloops, try to dirty flash your rom
I just wiped and reinstalled OxygenOS http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5/oneplus_5_oxygenos_4.5.10/. Once I reconfigure all my settings, files, etc, I'm going to see if it works.

I can't restore; I deleted all my backups in an attempt to free up space.
I think I found the solution!
1. Go to Wipe in TWRP, swipe to factory reset
2. Download:
OnePlus Recovery: http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amazonaws.com/OP5_recovery.img
OxygenOS: http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amaz...3_OTA_015_all_1708252353_e6d7756780064352.zip
3. Rename recovery image as recovery.img, boot phone into fastboot, plug into computer, run these commands on the computer:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot boot recovery.img
4. Open recovery on phone
5. Select Forgot Password, will wipe all leftover files in SD Card.
6. Boot back into recovery, select reload, select Install over ADB or Install Over USB or something similar and plug phone into computer.
7. Run 'adb sideload oxygen-os-filename' without quotes on computer.
8. Let it install OxygenOS, it may appear to be frozen at some points; it probobaly isn't, so don't shut it off or unplus USB.
9. Download Bluspark TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=26601&task=get
9. Reboot into fastboot, plug into computer and run these commands on the computer:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery bluspark-twrp-filename-location.img
fastboot boot bluspark-twrp-filename-location.img
10. Success (hopefully)
Oh. Wait. Now it has the same error when I try to make a backup. (I feel like it might be from installing https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/kali-nethunter-magisk-t3676681, but they say it's unrelated). Doors anyone know why this is happening again?
the solution to this was to boot to your previous rom that u have made nandroid backup with and then setting up the same password/pin in settings > security. When you then boot into twrp it will ask you for the pin/password to decrypt your data partition and then you can flash the nandroid backup(you have to have the same password there). here it is obvious that you are trying to flash data partition that uses different encryption password (in case of stock rom there is non) and this obviously wont happen.
maybe another solution would be to connect externally usb and unmounting data partition and then restoring from usb...
I'm having the exact same issue, but trying to create a Nandroid, not restoring one. Happened on Codeworkx TWRP 20180414. I always remove my passwords, fingerprint, pattern, and face data before I backup, update, etc. since I'm encrypted to avoid issues, and it still happened. I flashed the latest blu_spark TWRP and got the exact same error in the same spot in the data partition backup.
Never had an issue like this before. I even tried saving the data partition separately and still got the same error. Very strange indeed.
All other partitions backup without issue.
I'm on xXx v10.5 w/ ElementalX v3.04, Encrypted
If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much!

For me flashing normal oxygenos with magisk 16 and formatting data and trying to make it boot with the new flash and then rebooting into recovery and restoring made it work. I guess it has to do with the right filesystem having to be made first.
hi guys,
i've read all the thread in XDA related to ERROR 255, can't find anything to solve my problem trying to backup on TWRP ending with this error 255.?
I'm not using any parallel apps, not using Apps Locker, don't have any folder 999 (searched using Root Browser).
I've tried deleting all fingerprint, face unlock and screenlock as well.
No joy.
I'm using latest TWRP 3.2.2-1, OOS 5.1.7, Rooted.
Appreciate any help or sharing experience.
Hi, I am trying to make a nandroid backup using twrp on my LG G6 H870, but I am unable to do so as the data fails to be mounted. I have tried to repair the partition using twrp but I just get an error 8 and I don't know what that means. If someone could help, that would be great. I am doing this so that I can safely restore to the stock rom from HavocOS.
Thanks

Hey folks. I'm hitting a brick wall trying to figure out this issue and I'm hoping someone will know how to fix this.
I have a Galaxy Tab A 8 (SM-T350) that I rooted and successfully flashed with first crDroid, then Lineage (both Android 9.0) using TWRP. I had made a backup before attempting this just in case I wanted to revert to stock.
Well, that didn't go as smoothly as I was hoping. Ever since trying to restore my backup, I've been stuck on a continuous boot loop that I can't seem to fix.
I keep getting "E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument)" and "dm-verity verification failed. . ." no matter what I try. I've googled the error and tried every solution suggested but I still can't get it to boot.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ignore the EFS error its probably a red herring. Your issue is dm-verity.
3 ways around it. Return to complete stock, including wiping the data partition or flash root (magisk suggested) or disable dmverity using one of the zips out there.

Thanks for the reply ashyx.
I've done two of the three things you suggested. I've tried returning it to stock using an image matching my exact model, and I've tried disabling dmverity. I've also tried rooting it but using a method other than magisk.
The flash seems to go well enough, but then I get stuck at the Samsung logo whenever I try rebooting into the system.
I've tried waiting, thinking I'm just being impatient, but it doesn't ever seem to get past the logo. I've tried googling ways to fix it being stuck on the logo but nothing I do seems to work. Is there any other way around it?
Side note: I've been able to flash Lineage OS again and might just have to stick with that if I can't flash it back to stock. Do you know any resources for replacing the default apps? I've tried GApps but I was wondering if there's a similar Samsung installer?

You need to wipe the data partition, aka factory reset before or after installing the stock firmware then it will take anything up to 15 mins to boot.

Is there a way to check where or why it's getting hung up?

I did and I have been restoring it.
So far, this is what I've attempted:
Flash TWRP (twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t350_18317.tar using Odin3 v3.10)
Reboot into recovery
Wipe everything from tablet
Format tablet
Reboot into download mode
Flash stock image with Odin
Reboot into recovery
Wipe dalvik cache
Restore backup (including efs partition)
Wipe dalvik cache (again)
Reboot
Get stuck on Samsung logo (left it for hours with no change)

Don't restore everything just EFS No need to keep wiping dalvik it serves no purpose when formatting or wiping the data partition.
Also FORMAT not wipe the data partition (note this wipes internal storage)
If it still doesn't boot install the combo firmware. Let it boot, factory reset from settings then reboot to download mode and install the stock firmware again.
