I found the thread on how to tether
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2627752&page=1
But I don't understand how to go about it. Can I get a little help? Thanks, BTW I am rooted no worries.
Cwm
search for clockwork mod tethering may work no root required :good:
I didn't understand it either. I just installed a ROM that has built in tethering.

Hey guys looking to help my cousin with rooting her mytouch 3g to have wireless tethering. Jsut wanted to see if android-wifi-tether apk works fine with root access?
Tethering is all thats needed, no need for recovery or anything else. So i figure the androot way is the way to go.
Thanks
You have to flash a custom recovery to root so you'll get that either way. Couldn't personally comment on wifi tethering as I haven't used it.

You should just find it in the marketplace? Is it not there for you?
Said something about updating kernal and wouldn't run.

I wonder what kernel version you have.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
It has to be the right version of wireless tether. Might have to get somewhere other then market. When i checked market, the version wasnt the one i needed. Google wireless tether for froyo.
or you can use 3G mobile hotspot for free, search for "howto tether natively" on google and its the first link
its better imo but if you cant figure it out there is the above option.
i actually had the same problem. i was fooling around with it for hours last night and couldn't get it to work.
i'm using pre8 but it still doesn't work. was using it in adhoc mode with encrpytion turned off and no access-control, but no luck.
i even tried loading bin file from the evo 4 system dump but that didn't work either.
anyone get this to work yet??
The pre 8 version has been working perfectly for me.
Also installed it on another phone last night and it worked fine there as well.
I uninstalled the previous version first.
Specs:
Virtuous 2.5
Radio 2.15
hydra 1.15

You can use 3G Mobile Hotspot if you go to this post and follow the steps to use it for free.

Not reall sure what the best thing to do now is. I do have a few questions, how to I get the hotspot to work after I root. Im not paying and extra $30 a month for that BS. Is there anything I need after I root it any custom roms well rated?
I come from the windows mobile background so some of this is a bit new.
For Tethering use Mobileap It is exactly like Sprint hotspot app but its free. U must have stock rom to use this and touchwiz stuff installed. Get a custom kernal there are a few of them around the development section. B4 u do this flash clockwork recoverymod so its easy to flash things. Another thing u need is adfree if you dont have it already.
Those are my recommendations.

FYI. Some folks can't get MobileAP to work with the stock kernel. I use Mixup kernel. Works perfectly.
How do I get this app installed.....its not an .apk is it?

You have to flash the zip file
My problem was that I would download SuperOneClick and it would not give me actual root. The SuperUser icon was in my app drawer but if I tried to use any apps that required root access they wouldnt let me. When I opened Super Manager and clicked "Enable Root Access" a popup would come up and it would say something like "Your ROOT image will not work" or something like that.
The problem was this:
I found out that I had downloaded the most recent version of SuperOneClick. This version will not give root if you had the official 2.2. update. You needed to download the 1.5.5 version.
I hope this will help anyone who made the same mistake as me.
anybody? im freaking out since no one else has had this problem.
Try enable USB debugging
Settings > Applications > USB Debugging > Enable.
You should repost the OP with the solution in case someone else has the problem, if not people will search in vain.

good idea. Ill do it now.
Thanks alecjake, I am on ka6 and have heard there were issues with the latest SuperOneClick. Odd that an older version can root froyo but the newer version can't. Very helpful advice.

One thing you also want to do, is after using superoneclick is to reboot. That way root actually works.

I also have problems with rooting my andriod, I ran Titanium Backup but it required root access to work, so I downloaded z4root and universal root apk, it says that my phone is rooted but still Titanium Backup cant detect any root access.
Also my Link2sd App(app2sd alike) also requires root, I think I rooted my phone but still doesn't work. A noob like me really need your help guys.. thanks in advance..
BTW i am running 1.6 andriod firmware.
Easiest way I've found is to use AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I'm on my phone so I can't link it but just go to the development section and look for the post with the program name in the thread title. It's super easy to root with it. Just follow the included directions!

1.6? do you have a t959 vibrant? if you do, you need to get to stock 2.1 JFD, then you can follow these instructions:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guide-root-odin-clean-metamorph-swype-tricks-ninja-apps-everything/
or go with the AIO toolbox which is more user friendly
Im looking for info SPECIFIC to rooting AFTER the froyo "upgrade". Im having trouble tethering now.
Linking to another thread is fine, as long as its post-"upgrade" specific.

Do you want to run a custom EC05 ROM?
I have read that people have used the OneClickRoot with EC05 and it worked fine.
If you want to run a custom rom; I would use Odin to put the EB13 Extended on your phone (it has CWM and Root and EXT4 set to go).
Then apply one of the awesome EC05 ROMS; you can run wiFi tether using them.
I also wanted to upgrade but was worried about having the ability to upgrade custom roms. When you do the update to 2.2... you hae to reroot, I'm runnin ec05 and havet had a singal problem yet. Flashed syndicate frozen and love it.
Wired tether doesn't work but that's lame anyways. Just plug usb cable in, and hit charging.
Wifi tether works great. EVEN with 4g!!
The guys that put this rom together are awesome.
Definatly worth trying. Recap....
Download, if you haven't already, the drivers for samsung onto your 'pooter and install.
Download cwm3 and install. So easy to do. Just read the frum in development section.
Download rom...
