Save battery with Tasker! - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

I've been using tasker to automate my gps and wifi on my devices from Galaxy S3 days, but I've recently started using it on my Note 10.1 2014 with a few tweaks and it has made a huge difference.
I didn't create these profiles from scratch, I edited them for my purpose and am sharing them with you guys. Import the profiles into tasker following the instructions in the pic attached.

Gps variables sets a variable when google maps or waze is opened and clears the variable when either app is minimized.
Auto gps automatically turns gps on when google maps or waze is opened and turns it back off when either is minimized. However, it waits 3 minutes after the app is minimized before it turns gps off. But while using those apps you may minimize them to check something else, that's where the variable above comes in. Auto gps checks if the variable is set before it turns gps off. So if you minimize waze to check an email them go back to waze, in 3 minutes tasker will check and see that the variable is set and leave gps on. If u minimize and never open back the app then gps is turned off. Sounds complicated, but try it and you will understand. I never need to toggle gps when using the apps listed, you can also edit the profile to change the wait time and apps.
Display (Wifi) is triggered when you turn your screen off. It checks your Internet usage waiting 30 seconds to see if 15kb has been transferred. If more than 15 hadn't been transferred it checks again in 2 minutes until the data usage is below 15 and then it turns wifi off and turns sync off as well. This means if you leave something downloading, it won't kill your connection, but if you are not using any data it will turn wifi and sync off. This has saved me alot of battery in standby. Usually if I forget to turn wifi off before bed I'll lose sometimes 6-8 percent. With wifi off I lose 1-2 percent.
Hope this helps someone out the there.
Forgot to mention...Root is required as well as Secure Settings. Open Secure Settings and scroll to the System+ tab and enable System+ Module.
After this reboot and the profiles should work fine.

Thanks but they won't import. Extracted them then I chose import in tasker. Selecting any one of the profiles, tasker gives me a "failed to import profile data"??
Maybe the zip is corrupt?

Rezipped from a computer. If it still doesn't work, I've included a titanium backup so you can import the data from it (backup your current profiles first). I'm not sure why it wouldn't import but it has happened to me before when importing profiles I've downloaded. Make sure you're on the latest tasker.

Just had a thought.....is root required for these? Some profiles yes, some no. The new files didn't work either but I'm not rooted. And I am on the latest tasker. I've been using it on my phone for a while as well.

Apologies, root is required as well as secure settings (its in the play store.
Had anyone gotten it to work? Could you report your experience?

Any updates?

Can anyone try and figure this out. I fully charged yesterday. I charged 100%. I put it away in my case and haven't used it since. Looked at now and it's been 21 hours 44 minutes from plug. Battery down to 76%. Android os is killing the battery. Stay awake time is 21h 0m 44s. What can be causing it to stay awake

You may want to download wakelock detector from the play store, charge your tab to 100%, unplug it and let it sit for 6 hours. Then you will see what is draining your battery

Lol funny. I actually just downloaded it from market now. I will do that. Hopefully it can pinpoint the issue. I'll get back with results. Thanks

most of the times i've seen this on mine and friend's devices it's google play service killing the battery. it'll go away after a while (i supposed after google snatches all the data it needs from you, lol) it may take a day or a few weeks, but it seems to just stop after a while. greenify will kill the problem promptly, but you'll lose some push notifications like google voice and gmail.

When I try to import the profiles, Tasker doesn't see the files in the directory I extracted them into.

I'm using the latest version, 4.3.
What exactly is the issue your having? Have the profiles been imported? Btw check the OP it may fix whatever issues your having.

just update to the latest version on google play.
works great but it won't save much battery for me since i keep wifi off on sleep anyways. but it does allow the postponing of the wifi off now when downloading, as long as you set wifi to always on and let tasker control it. also like not having to remember to turnon gps before launching waze and maps. so it's not a great battery saver but a huge convenience.
i did have to edit the wifi profile. it didnt have an entry to turn autosync back on with the screen and wifi.

Thanks for the feedback. Personally, I hardly sync things on my tablet unless I need to so usually I manually turn sync on and back off. I find that even with wifi off and sync on, I get many wakeups from apps checking if there's an Internet connection available. I have Gmail on my tab but that account is set to only sync manually as I use my note 3 way more for emails, Twitter etc. But that's a personal preference.
Re the gps, it's very convenient to have the profile turn it on, but the savings come from the profile turning it off after minutes of inactivity. That profile came straight from when I had a S3 where after using gps and reaching my destination I'd often forget to turn it off then only realize after my battery had been eaten away lol.
Anyhow, glad it could help, even if it's just to make things a little more convenient

Car Home Project

I am wondering if anyone can take up this little project.
Basically this is the Car Home from the T-Mobile Vibrant and i am wondering if anyone can play around with it so that A: it can fit on the Galaxy Tab (app does not center properly as you can see from the picture), B: if the Contact icon can be made to work properly (as you can see an error mesage comes up) and C:when selecting the search icon nothing happens(the one on the right hand side of the contact icon)

Maybe just not in the 1 day since you posted it.
There's already a few good car home apps that work fine on the tab, which may be partially responsible for peoples reluctance to spend their spare time on this project also.
It's probably just a case of changing the name of the app it's calling, why not take the APK apart and see if you can work it out yourself?
i extracted the apk, but that's as far as i can go. have no idea what to do
this can get the ball rolling
as you can see there are three folders layout, layout-land, and layout-port
i dont know how to mess with xml files or dev in any other way, so someone can take a crack at this.

yea, the default google one is pretty good. i plan to use it in my car w/my tab and the samsung car mount.
on a side note, using the car mount right now just on my glass desk. works pretty dang well too!
That's pretty cool.
Looks like most of the images are intended for a 480x800 display, which is the resolution of the vibrant. You'd probably need to go through and scale a number of the images to fit the higher resolution screen of the tab. (Edit: Looks like the app is intelligent enough to scale this itself)
It's possibly a fair bit of work, but probably not all that hard. You mainly just need to extract it, work out what to edit, make the required changes, remove the META-INF tag and then manually resign and recreate the .apk. Not quite as straightforward as that (you'll need the Android SDK for a start). Might be a good exercise though.
I might have a play just for something to do. Maybe
Edit: Right, as with most things, _way_ more difficult than I estimated. I've decompiled the APK and I'm having a poke around in the sourcecode. I'll see how I go, but it's quite possible that I'll end up giving up and putting it in the "too hard" basket. Disclaimer: I'm completely unfamiliar with this sort of code so I'm having to decipher the syntax as I go. Editing just the graphics is a piece of cake, changing application calls and layout is a different story.
I managed to get most of it sorted. The icons are now centered and the Contacts button works. The search button doesn't even seem to be _trying_ to do anything though, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to achieve. I might just get rid of it, a text-based search in a car dock app seems a bit redundant to me.
I don't get a "Voice Search" icon on mine, I get a "Browser" icon instead, so I'd be interested in seeing what happens on yours.
The .apk is a little larger than the original, probably as it's being compiled against a newer SDK.

I fixed the "Alarm" option not working with the Home dock application as well:

I do have a car home app that came with Roto's JME v4 but i still like the one from the Vibrant.
I am not a programmer so i would not know how to fix it.

Great work on the Car Home, but i was wondering if you could make some changes:
This what it looks like on my Vibrant, any way you can get to look this way?
and in regards to the Desk Home, the Alarm does not work i get an error message:
and one question on the Desk Home, on the weather icon next to the date and time shouldn't it show the current temperature? on both the Vibrant and Tab it just shows 00 C, not that important but it is weird that it does not update after you set the City and change the temperature to F on the Daily briefing icon.
Thank you again for your help.
The apk on your vibrant must be different, the one I'm working on doesn't even have the images for "Phone" or "Music".
As for the alarm, I've no idea, it works fine here. I'm running the JME firmware which may have something to do with things.
The weather displays 00 if it doesn't have a net connection, it works fine as soon as it can access the server, but it looks like you've got data running. Can you put it on Wireless and see if it updates then?

I don't understand why you're getting different icons than I am. It'd take me a lot of work to decipher it and try to fix things, someone who has a better understanding of smali code would need to have a look at it.

The Car Home from my Vibrant i got it via the market when it was available, the one currently on my tab i got it from the link on my first post so i could not tell you why they are different. Well i gave it a try, i'll keep it the way it is but it looks better than before and at least the contacts work. Thanks.
Regarding the alarm i am lost, i am running Roto's JME v4 so not sure if that has anything to do with it.
In regards to weather on the Desk Home i'll try and get better signal and i'll try wifi connection see if makes a difference and i'll report.

Galaxy S3 "Android OS" Battery Usage and Drain - Research and Potential Fixes

Galaxy S3 "Android OS" Battery Usage and Drain - Research and Potential Fixes
Many users have reported of Android OS taking up much of the battery. This thread is dedicated to fixing the issue.
I've gathered this information from using stock touchwiz (no non-google apps, custom roms, anything like) with Google Sync on.
This problem is specific to Touchwiz.
What is it?
The issue seems to be when your phone starts to get warm and lose battery quickly. It can happen randomly. Going to settings>battery will show that Android OS is taking up the most battery and accounts for much of this drain and warmth.
Is there a fix?
There is a temporary fix which is rebooting the phone. Rebooting may or may not make the problem go away. If you reboot, however, the problem can come back later.
What part of the Android OS is doing this?
This is what the goal of the thread is to find out. Once we know this, a developer or user could come up with a fix.
From one instance when this happened, I was able to gather:
Partial Wakelocks:

}
Kernel Wakelocks:
*The phone has been in deep sleep for 5 of the 7 hours too
As you can see, it seems like gTalk and Android Talk are the issue. Clearly they shouldn't take up so much battery.
I encourage every to download betterbatterystats and show us data when this happens to you. Any information that you know about this or can gather will help with trying to find the cause and fix. Remove betterbatterystats after you collect the data since the app itself causes battery drain.
It seems to me that the firmware allows certain apps to go rogue and eat up large amounts of the cpu usage, for me it hasnt been google talk

Yes, have had this happen multiple times. One time with Maps another with Facebook then another with nothing in particular. Reboot or going into application manager and stopping them fixes it too.
I find that the Gallery app has a partial wake lock once a day. It tries to sync pictures once a day, and it stays awake until I manually force it to stop.

Nah, that's wouldn't work because touchwiz isn't just the launcher - It's being used throughout the whole system. Install a ROM like Cyanogenmod which is (almost) pure google. Then compare it to a touchwiz ROM. You'll see how much they changed.

Yeah, I've noticed it happen with Maps once, so I stopped maps. Then it happened with gtalk so I freezed gtalk. One time it happened with Audio_out1 which wasn't even an app so I had to reboot.
I'm thinking here that it isn't the fault of any app but instead the OS doing something to the apps?

If they download it, uninstall it the second they're done because betterbatterystats itself causes a huge battery drain as well. There's a post the Epic CM team talked about the app doing so.

Hmmm, thanks for informing me. At first I was also concerned if the app itself would use a bunch of battery but reassured myself it wouldn't since it's an app to help battery. Thanks for informing me that this isn't the case.
I've had an issue with a wakelock titled "bam_dmux_wakelock". I've posted in a few battery threads and found nothing. It is very random. I'll un-install better battery stats to see if my Android system drain drops.

It has camera in the name so that may be a hint. Do you have any apps that use the camera? Try rebooting or factory resetting the phone.
The same is happening to me... I have the same exact apps I had on my Note II & GS 4 as I now have on my Note 3, and I had never seen this process let alone seeing it drain the battery...
I realized something, my Yahoo Messenger Video plugin was crashing and probably causing the battery drain.
After uninstalling it, issue resolved. Hope it helps...
Thanks, rasel800. After I posted here last night, I too noticed the Yahoo Voice & Audio Plugin was running & even though I have had it forever I figured it shouldn't be running at the moment. It was the only thing I could think of that may have been contributing, so went ahead and uninstalled. Sure enough the problem went away. Now seeing your post confirms that which is great. Thank you!
Mm-qcamera-deamon process...
This is what I think about (mm-qcamera-deamon), i have some 3 days with my note 3(Verizon wireless) the 2 first days everything works well but for any reason yesterday (mm-qcamera-deamon) drain my battery 60% maybe on 3 hours, i read some comments about the yahoo plug in, and
I uninstall it, but the (mm-....) follow drain my battery, the last app installed before this problem is "xda premium":crying:, i don't know why the app is not working for me on my nexus 10,and now note 3, the relation between (xda app and mm-qcamera-deamon) is because I try change the picture on my perfil from xda app, but picture never change....... Now... i don't want say the xda app is the problem, i think any app when used the camera or gallery can make mistakes and follow try make the task. And is why the device is hot and the battery is down........ Just i hope can you understand this message my English y pour but i try, :good:
Pd. The xpd premium is not working for me.. Any idea?
I'm having the same issue. Mine started after I downloaded liteflow, of all things. Uninstalled, but noticed the daemon showed as running every time I start the camera, but stops when I turn it on. I'm hopeful it's normal now, but I'm skeptical. Nothing online or in this forum has shown a solution, so I'm really worried! Help!

Edit The issue did in fact stem from the Yahoo plug-in associated with Yahoo Messenger.

I already have the MJ7 kernal on mine and the issue still persists. I was just able to get through almost 30 hours before it randomly appeared and started going until I noticed it used 35% of my battery and ran for ~1 hour and 30 minutes.
I just now started having this issue after i used Kingo to root my phone. but it wasnt until a couple days after that it popped up. i installed the xda app and changed over to a new SD card. could any of these trigger this behavior??
Same here. Started after flashing Sabre kernel. Qcamera ate 20 percent battery in one hour. What a mess...

Same problem : I have a galaxy note 3 official ROM MJ7 in France.
I confirm that other app that use the camera can cause the problem.
When the process mm-qcamera-daemon is running, at maximum CPU usage, the battery becomes very hot ! For me, this is the signal to reboot the phone that I have purchased at the price of 750 € !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what this s......?
When this process is sticked, I add that the camera app (official one) doesn't work any more : in french : "L' application Camera s'est arrêtée"
Uninstalling yahoo messenger video plugin solved it for me...

I believe it might be "Barcode Scanner".
I was facing same problem , after many hours in troubleshooting , I found that task killing apps are make camera daemon crash
stop using any task killing apps and uninstall it and problem will be solved and daemon will never crach again

Android L Bugs Collection

Figured it might be a good idea to start a thread about various bugs people find in Android L.
11/11 Some of the bugs ppl have mentioned in the thread:
1. Bluetooth playback stutters and is overall inconsistent. **
2. Some report calls unable to patch through.
3. The Device randomly picks an app and said app drains the battery with extreme prejudice (personally it has occurred twice for me with Gmail soaking it up once and the other was Motorola connect).
4. Battery is not being managed properly
5. Ram is also buggy?
6. Google Now launcher working Incorrectly.
7. attentive display isn't working properly in all apps.
Android l final realease is out ?

When using the volume rocker, there will be a "none" option. That silences the phone

I would love others to confirm this. My music playback on the L soak test build is too fast. It speeds up the music just a half beat or so. Everything is just a little bit faster than it should be, and in some cases it's hard to discern. But I have tested multiple tracks and gotten others to listen and confirm too. Music playback through Play Music is not timing the songs correctly.

Nope. Google Music on my desktop and Google Music on my phone play the same song in absolute perfect sync.
I'm having a pretty major problem where apps like hangouts and gmail seemingly randomly decide to stop syncing in the background. I'll get a message, and it will either not notify me at all, or wait up to several minutes to do so, where it used to be nearly instant.

I've tried that, I've cleared data on play services and google framework, cleared data and cache in hangouts, rebooted multiple times, etc. I've done everything short of factory reset it.

Hmm, interesting. Maybe you need to factory reset. Did you happen to flash the system.IMG from the toolbox?

Yeah, my method for updating since I was rooted before was the toolbox system.img, then supersu into safe mode, then at&t modem, then update. I factory reset first thing after applying the update, but that doesn't seem to have fixed it. What's weird is that I'm having very similar issues on my nexus 7, which is running the 5.0 developer preview.
Edit- I factory reset it again. Lets see what happens.
Don't know if its Google Wallet or Lollipop but overnight my battery went from 90% to 15% with the screen off the entire time. And Google wallet was responsible for 41% of the usage.

Bluetooth seems unstable on my Honda Civic. Music was kind of skipping / jumping but the second time it was OK. Also, connection time seems to take much longer than it did on kk.
Sorry, should have clarified that my music speed issue is happening when I'm playing through my car on bluetooth. Ford Sync with MFT. Can anyone try playing through a Bluetooth device and see if playback is sped up?

I had to put my phone in safe mode https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/94932/p/30,6720,8696/kw/safe%20mode.
Once I went into safe mode tried encryption and the phone rebooted, encrypted then rebooted again and I was good to go. Please note you must have a fully charged battery and it plugged in for it to encrypt.
Hope this helps and good luck

[FIX] AnalyiticalServices ate my battery

Visited process stats in development settings and found out GPlayServices was killing my battery and upon closer inspection I found out AnalyiticalServices was 84% of the cause, so to fix I downloaded Disable Services from GPlayStore and clicked on Google Play Services under System tab and unchecked AnalyticalServices and guess what, this is the first time I'm able to get 3 Hours and 10 mins SOT with 3G all the time, before I could get around 1 hour 50 mins on 3G and my device kills apps less frequently
Will post my SOT soon

Nope, it was the right service for sure..I tried it again.. Everything was ok, until I rebooted..
After reboot, I had freezes, FC of both the Facebook and what'sapp to the point I had to reinstall them.
.....
Tried your solution, AnalyticsService is reenabled after each reboot.

@Pizza_Dox is absolutely correct about Google Analytics using battery.
I don't mind battery power going down when I'm using the phone, but Anaylictics drains it when sleeping.
I did a short test to show how much it drains. I've attached a screenshot of battery use. At the beginning GA was disabled, then I turned it back on, then later turned it off again. See the battery drain is a almost a flat line with GA off, then see how it slopes with GA on, then later almost a flat line again when its turned off.
The excessive battery drain here is only down to GA. Most of this time my phone was sleeping or in use for a few minutes at a time.
The procedure I use to keep GA off is to follow @Pizza_Dox advice above but in addition have Autorun Manager installed, its free version, and disable Analytics in Google Play Service . To do this enable Advanced, go to settings, enable the option to show system entries, find Google Play services and disable analytics, (third option down).
You can also safely disable the following wakelocks:
SystemUpdateService$Receiver
SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver
SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver
Be careful with this app. Don't accidentally disable another service by mistake.
Reboot and check GA has remained disabled in both apps, if not disable again and reboot. I found I needed two reboots, after that GA remained dead.

Thank you for the support and I disabled those 3 extra things and I'll see how battery goes on today, I will attach your IMG to op when I get back on my laptop proof is good!
Also I don't think we need disable services app if we have autorun manager doing it at boot, so I uninstalled disable services and hid autorun manager from app drawer, cause its one of those set and forget things
Anyways thanks a lot buddy!

You are probably correct about only needing Autorun Manager, I read somewhere ages ago that both were needed to properly kill GA, but thinking about it you are probably right. I also do this on other Android phones in the family.

Hello,
I tried to install "Autorun Manager" but when I started this app it appeared this message "You seem to have no busybox installed. It is a toolbox required for this app to work completely. (most parts will work without this too)". The problem is that I had installed busybox but "Autorun Manager" can't recognize. What can I do?

Yes you need to be rooted although there is a busybox installer for non-rooted devices on Play. Not sure what it does as I've never really looked at it.
Any alternative for non rooted users?

This may be a dumb question, but I'm unable to find the AnalyticsService in Autostart Manager. I found it and disabled it in Disable Service just fine, but when going to Google Play Services in Advanced Mode of Autorun Manager all I get is a list of 105 receivers and the only Analytics related entry I can find is the CoreAnalyticsReceiver halfway through the list. Please tell me what to do.
