Nexus 4 stopped working - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello,
my nexus 4 suddenly turned off and stopped working.
when i plugged it into a charger and press 20 seconds on the power button I get a blinking red light,
i read all about the red light of death and i tried to switch the battery with another that shorly works but nothing changed.
do you have any suggestions ?

My red light of death was cured by getting to the battery and disconnecting the terminal ribbon and reconnecting it and I was back in business. If you've tried another battery then a deeper problem it must be. You can try charging overnight as I've heard some people do that for some works. From what I gather it might be one of two issues, either the screw's that hold the battery terminal are too tight to begin with or the battery drivers are kinda garbagy and crap out. Mine came while I was running antutu.

Charging Issues [Screen Flicker]

Basically I've been having charging issues for a while. Have to let it sit for a while before I turn it on and charging is extremely slow.
I accidentally let the battery drain, and plugged my nexus back in, and now I'm just getting screen flickering every few seconds?
What I've tried so far:
1. There's nothing I can do in terms of getting into the bootloader or anything similar ..the screen is unresponsive in my attempts to hold the power down + volume
2. I've opened my device, removed the battery, and plugged everything back in. Still nothing
Any suggestions?
Update:
I left the tablet in the charger for about 3 hours, came back, and the screen was still flickering at the same pace. Still unable to turn the device on.
Disable.. I think it's nvidia prism, it's broken.

Nexus 4 Died?

So i was playing a game called The room battery was at 1% but was connected to a charger and it suddenly powered off and a red light started to blink then the light disappeared and now it is connected to the charger and has no response, is my phone dead? :S i'm so nervous.
The device may not respond until it is fully charged. I think it's best if you wait until it's charged fully and see what goes from there.

Maybe it's the adapter that's broken? Try changing adapter/cable or try charging using your PC

So many threads on this. Charge your phone overnight. Not working? Rip off the back cover and disconnect and reconnect it. That's a no go? Check another thread.... Wish you luck

When I have get the red light I have to keep trying to power it on taking the charger in and out. Last time took 30 mins for it to go away of continuously trying to power on and taking charger in and out. The reason I do this is because if you leave it on charge with the red light on the phone will not charge. You can leave it over night and the red light will still be there and your phone won't be charged! It will only charge if you get the charger screen up and the red light is off.
Happens to me if don't have much battery and I try to watch something on the TV with slimport connected

plug it in, and press and hold volume up plus power for 60 seconds, then release. It should then power up automatically or press the power button again. This key combination is the equivalent of a battery pull, which is what you have to do when it gets locked up like that or battery drains too low.
none of those worked i tried it's bricked i guess

Your phone's fine. The reason it powered down even though it was plugged in is because it was at 1%, and considering you were playing a game your phone was probably expending power faster than it could charge.
When there's absolutely no power left it won't respond no matter how long you hold down the power button. Just plug it in & let it charge for a few hours don't worry.
source: this happens to everybody who uses their phone extensively at some point

It's not bricked, there are a lot of threads about it around here. You have to charge the battery, and keep trying with vol down + power, until it takes you to recovery. From there choose reboot.

you have to disconnect the battery and charge it withe external charger for an hour then reconnect your battery . i hope this help you .

Switching to ART and got the Red Light of Death

Hi there,
Yesterday I decided to dive into ART just to see what the differences may be. I ran into some trouble. I got it fixed but thought I would share my experience in case it may help someone else.
What I'm running:
Nexus 4 (mako) with Faster binned chip
Purity Rom 11/27
Franco Kernel 195
SuperSU 1.65
CWM Recovery
When I decided to switch to ART I had about 70% battery remaining. I did the switch and the phone rebooted to change over the lib. The phone booted as it would normally and was optimizing applications. I noticed that the phone had got really hot when I picked it up to check it. The screen was off at that point and I could not get it to turn on.
I connected it to a USB charger and I got a flashing red light. Crap. I followed the guides out there which advised holding Vol Up and Power for 60 seconds, releasing, and connecting power. I let it charge for over an hour as prescribed. This did not resolve my issue. I tried a few different chargers of varying output and found that the lower powered chargers gave me a blinking red light (trouble indicator, I believe) and my new iPad charger would give a solid red light (charging from a very low battery indicator). It still made no difference in booting however.
If I held down the Vol Up and Power and connected a lower powered USB charger I could get to fast boot which led me to believe that the system board was not fried. When I disconnected the power while in fastboot the phone would switch off. Seems that somehow a fuse (electronic I'd guess, I'm not an electrical engineer) was keeping the battery from powering the system board.
To resolve the issue I had to open the phone, disconnect the battery ribbon, wait 10 seconds and then reconnect it. Fired right up after that.
To open the phone you'll need a t-5 torx screwdriver, a non-marring pry tool and a small phillips head screwdriver.
Hi,
Thank you for your solution. I have the same problem and I couldn't fix it through flashing a factory image. I am confused though. Do you know why the problem is fixed by reconnecting the battery cable? I'll try whenever I get the tools to open the phone and I'll post back if it worked or not!
tommyboy76, got same problem, but fixed it by waiting about 2 hrs with "dead" phone, I didn't connected charger until it chilled down. Then after I connected charger and everything seems OK. It charged and turned it on as always.
I think it is an overload protection built in.

[Q] Help! Nexus7 won't turn on!

Totally new here. got my nexus 7(2012) since nov 2012. This morning, I was chatting with friends and my device suddenly froze for 10 mins. i couldnt wait long so i restarted it by holding the power button. now it won't open even if i did the power + volume keys, nothing appears. even when i plug it in the wall charger or on my pc and laptop. still no charging logo or any indication it was on and my laptop says installing new device but always ends up failing so i cant back up my files from my device. I'm not a techy person so i made absolute no effort to root my device. just chatting and some occasional gaming. Please help can't afford to buy a new device for a long while
*btw its a 32gb nexus 7(2012). not sure if this additional info is helpful or not.
Do you get any sort of screen when you try to turn it on ? I.E. do you see the Google logo for a few seconds? Or do you see nothing?
My guess is with a hardware failure or your battery has come loose. When my battery becomes unplugged, I will see the Google logo and then a bunch of funky colors and it will reboot constantly when plugged in. It dies if unplugged, and It also turns on the second it is plugged in.
So if you suspect the battery, there are videos on YouTube to walk you through popping the back off along with pushing the battery back in. I used black electrical tape to hold my battery in place better once I confirmed that was what my problem was.

I would check to see if the battery connection came loose. Its an easy fix to try and was your tablet overly hot or any bulging?

i am so sorry for not replying. i know its too late now because i was asking this info on another thread. i i already tried removing and reinserting the battery on my device.
the nature of my device is that its all black screen. even when you charge it, theres no charging animation that shows or any backlight. its like its really off without anything plugged.
when i plugged it in the pc under device manager, it says apx mode. kinda depressed cuz i think the device is already dead cuz i cant even do the power button + vol down thingie :crying:.
Try pressing and holding in the power button for a long time, up to a minute.

Nexus 4 Power Issue

Hi, I have a Google Nexus 4. For some reason, the phone will not turn on. It is fully turned off, but charges properly. When connected to charger, it displays the battery charging icon, but when you hold down the power button, nothing happens. The battery seems to be charging properly and the display seems to be fully functional as well. There is no root done on the phone or flashing. The phone has never been worked on before, does anybody have any suggestions as to what it could be? The power button clicks properly but I cannot turn on the phone at all, please help.
How much is the battery percentage? And is your notification light blinking red? And when was the last time you used the phone and what was the last thing you did?
The last time i used my phone was over 8 months ago, the battery indicator on screen shows around 80% which was definitely charging, it was dead to begin with and i left it charging for an hour nd a half before attempting to turn it on. There was no red light on the notification that is typically set when the phone is on and charging. The phone is completely turned off. And when charging doesn't show a light.
