Hey, I rooted my Lg g2, and I see that there is an update for srpint G2's to get to kitkat, however I am on jellybean. I am not seeing an update for kitkat, and when I manually check it says I am up to date? is this because I rooted, or?

No it isn't because you have root. I wouldn't accept the OTA though. There isn't a native root process for KitKat as of yet. We just have the sneaky pants ninja workaround at the moment bc of the new KitKat security shenanigans. OTAs are sometimes pushed out in waves. When the AT&T OTA pushed I didn't get it until 2 days after it was initially pushed. I'd just keep checking. If you get the "Device is up to date. You can check again in 24 hrs" message you can get around that by going into date and time and manually changing your date to tomorrow and it lets you check again right away.
Also you might want to edit your post title. Spring G2
EDIT: Actually I just found out ioroot25 roots KitKat without the downgrade workaround. Yay XDA devs!!!

you can always try either a)contacting your company and asking them to push the ota or b)depending on which device you have there are roms/kdz/tots to flash kk if you don't want to wait http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705259

I'm on an AT&T D800 and I'm stuck on D80010o (4.2.2). I know there's a D80010q that I need to download before I get the KitKat update but nothing is showing up. I called customer service and they had no clue there was an update available. I was wondering if there was any way to force the OTA?

call again and talk to another rep, theyre playing stupid with you, tell them you found an official post by AT&T themselves about the update which is here if you need it for reference
http://blogs.att.net/consumerblog/story/a7794848
this method worked for me the first time, i was on the "o" update, after returning to stock, rep pushed "q" update then i told her "there was a 4.4 kitkat update for the G2" and nice of her she pushed the KK update to the phone as well, you gotta keep on top of things with them but this rep was straight forward and got me rolling in no time

Hello All!
I am going to be receiving my LG G2 (Verizon model) tomorrow. I couldn't be more excited! The phone is coming rooted and will have the hotspot provision in place. I have older phones rooted in the past, but have never "unrooted".
With the KitKat update coming soon - from what I understand... what will I need to do to update to KitKat without bricking my phone?
Factory reset? Unroot? This has me a little worried, being I haven't played with the phone much - yet. Hopefully you guys can help me out on what I've got myself into.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same-rooted and i am running a custom rom. I plan on waiting for a custom rom of the released official kit kat for verizon. I don't want all the extra "fluff" they push with it.

if you rooted, you can just freeze the update with TiBu (its called "software update..")
if u Verizon then I would keep this handy

Assuming TiBu is Titanium Backup?
Also is anyone aware of Verizon unrooting videos?
Does the phone brick just when it receives the OTA notification or only when trying to install it (in all variants of the G2)?

Didnt realize it would be a staged rollout....
I'm running CM-11, but I haven't seen it the update on Sammobile. I wouldn't think these sold in such numbers to warrant a staged rollout either, though.

Me either, all these sites say it released but no one that i talk to that has one has the update.... so are they just going by the samsung site that you have the link to? I was pretty amped earlier when i read about this then i cant get the update. Its just disappointing lol
I'm just waiting for root for it then I will update. I don't want to update and not be able to remove the crap I don't use. If I knew how to make a rooted version, I would do it but I don't know anything about development. Oh well, I guess the wait won't kill me.
Sammy Jumped The Gun
It is starting to seem as if Samsung jumped the gun on this one. I think they released it alright, but released it to TMO for testing, etc. I know quite a few people that have this exact same model on TMO and they all live in different areas of the country. Not one has received it. Samfirmware has no link for it, and they don't even mention it. And for the most part if there is a new version out, they know and quick. And of course 4.4.4 is not available in KIES.
This is why I believe Sammy sent 4.4.4 to TMO and not to us, or at least not yet. We all know how the carriers are. At this point I'd rather not have 4.4.4 and wait for 5.0, but it will be a very long wait, unless I go CM12 when it is stable...

You're using CM-11 for the P607T model of the tablet? I've been looking for months for ROMs but haven't found any that work specifically for the P607T, which is the Tmo variant of the tablet.
Those who have 4.4.4, can you still root with Towelroot?
I am contemplating buying the P607t, which probably will have 4.4.4 by now and would not buy it if there is no root for 4.4.4 that won't trip KNOX. I returned the Wifi version for this exact reason.

I think you are absolutely correct
I just got the 4.4.4 update
Received 4.4.4 update
Update rolled out to my device as well.
I went ahead with the update, since all I really used root for was Titanium Backup and ES File Explorer.
Failed first time (likely because of root)
Removed root (under Cleanup section of super su FULL Cleanup)
Second attempt succeeded.
Towelroot failed to reroot.
If you are dependent on root, don't update until there is a new method found. Looks like towelroot is plugged on this one.

I got the notification for the update this morning, holding off until someone can confirm root capability. As with any new update, we will need to wait until people can get their hands on it and mess around to see if rooting is possible.
What are your initial thoughts on 4.4.4?
Hi all,
Hopefully I am asking in the right place here - it is my first question regarding the Moto X Style.
I got my phone at the end of last week. I decided to unlock the bootloader right from the off as it requires a full wipe. I see that people are seeing the Marshmallow update rolling out in Europe. My question is two fold really.
Firstly, should I receive the OTA update with an unlocked bootloader? Based on what I have read, it looks to me like I should get the update.
Secondly, what "decides" if the update is available to a given phone? When I check for a software update I get the message that the phone is up to date. I'm happy to wait a while but I am also curious how the update rolls out.
Just for extra info, the phone reports as an "XT1572" and the system version says "23.21.18.clark_reteu.reteu.en.EU reteu"
Thanks for any pointers

Thanks for that, I had seen and I will use the sideload method if I don't see the OTA update soon.
My curiosity is more about the mechanics of the OTA method and why my phone does not see an update when I tell it to go and check vs others already seeing it.

My device is a retfr and didn't receive the update while other users had it, so I just sideloaded it. The update seems to be universal for all eu devices.

Usually the rollouts are sent on batches and not all at once. I'm not sure if the criteria they use.
** Update**
Seems after the LS997ZV4 update was pulled off, they changed it to LS997ZV5 instead and just got it 12/26/16
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I've been waiting for the OTA update on my phone, I have been manually checking for updates too but nothing happens!
The release date says 12/5/16 and I usually can get updates by manually checking with other android devices, not this time though..

rooting isn't important for me as it was before lollipop, there's not much bloatware on the V20 and ads are being taken care of with adguard.
It's just bug fixes and security patches anyways

ls9997zv4 update no longer shown on sprint website
I saw that update listed on Sprint's site last week and was also frustrated not to get it. It must have had an error because it has been pulled. We are lucky not to received flawed firmware.
They probably pulled it to fix the exploit they have found for rooting the phone.

Is there a way to stop the update from appearing or stop the phone from checking? I would like to accept updates only once people here assure us that it won't break the root method, given I may root at some point.

I just got updated to LS997ZV5 Dec 1 Security patches, fixed an issue with loud speaker and stuff I don't remember.
I got it on 12/24. I had to click "check for update" quite a few times for it to show up.
Same here. I hoped it would have fixed the speaker distortion problem. But it did nothing for me.

I read everything I could find about rooting this thing and read all the comments that the bootloader exploit was fix with the December patch.but nothing convinced me not to...Im a old Samsung guy, Note 2, 3 & 4 so rooting without having Odin to back me up was a tad daunting as well as having to remember how to use ADB....I took a chance and it worked......I got the sd corrupt error ( no biggie, I had backups) and battery drain is kinda high ( no sprint custom kernels yet) ....of course it not being a stock sprint rom things like wifi calling, sprint zone and voicemail are missing ( but Team Dev now hows a stock rooted sprint rom out, Ill try that in the am) everything is running just fine...installed all my apps, made a titanium backup and a twrp backup.....
