Hello, All:
I was surprised that the WiFi 5GHz band has very limited channel availability on Nexus 4. Roughly the channels above 60 cannot be seen by N4. Is there a way to unlock higher channels or that is limitation of N4? It has stock firmware 4.4.2
Here is my solution to solve the problem. Need rooted phone. Go to /system/etc/wifi/ and edit the file WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini. Find the line below in the file:
#If set to 0, will not scan DFS channels
gEnableDFSChnlScan=0
Change this value to "1", and then reboot the phone, you will see all wifi channels.

Anyone know how to get this thing to support all the 5GHz channels? I recall stock it supported unii-1 and unii-3. After installing CM I seem to have lost unii-3.
I went in to \system\etc\wifi and edited the file to use ccode=US instead XY but that didn't help. Normally Samsung great 5GHz support on their Android devices.

is this 5GHZ wifi any faster? how is it different from the default wifi setting?
Do you found a way to unlock the DFS channels for the Nexus 10? It's a shame that the Nexus 10 (and Nexus 4 and 7) only support channel 36, 40, 44 and 48 on 5ghz (US 149, 153, 161, 165, 169).
I would like to use also the channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116,120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140, 144.

There is tons of information on the internet that about 5 GHz vs 2.4 GHz. Below is a link that does a good job describing the basic differences.
http://www.speedguide.net/faq/is-5ghz-wireless-better-than-24ghz-340
The transfer speed is dependent on the bandwidth, not the frequency. 40Mhz bandwidth will allow higher transfer speeds than 20Mhz.
But, cause it is a but, Nexus 10 used to have issues with 40Mhz bandwith. I don't know if it still does. The poor handling of 40Mhz resulted in poor connectivity and especially when connected to routers with auto 20/40 bandwidth. I have 20Mhz bandwidth on my routers 2.4Ghz band and 40Mhz on the 5Ghz band and connect my Note 2 and Nexus 10 to 2.4Ghz and connect my laptops to 5Ghz.

Are you rooted? If so, what kernel are you using. I had a similar issue initially after root, but by changing the kernel, it solved itself. I personally have not had an issue since then.

Hi all,
Is anyone having problems connecting to 5ghz bands on their N4?
I reconnected a simultaneous dual-band router that I used while my N4 was on KitKat. It would connect on the 5ghz band without issues, and I could view the 5ghz bands on inSSIDer. I installed the Lollipop factory image and now I cannot view or connect to my router over 5ghz, only 2.4ghz. Setting a different SSID, changing channels and widths does not help.

I'm having the same issue. It doesn't detect any 5 ghz wifi even if I set it to 5 ghz wifi only. I've flashed the factory image a second time thinking that might fix it but it doesn't.
I'm at work now where we have multiple 5ghz networks, and I can't see any of them. Any ideas on what I can do about this? Report a bug somewhere?
I have the the same problem. I've tried high number and low number channels on my Nighthawk using factory firmware default settings.
I solved the issue by reverting to kitkat 4.4.4. I think Google still has some work to do on 5.0.
i've the same problem.... i also thought to revert to KK but dont have the time for it....
i just wish google will fix the 5GHz issue and i wish for black theme (hate this bright white)

i think, the SSID name is the problem?! i'm at work and we have also multiple 5ghz SSIDs. SSIDs without any special character will be shown.
but i have one more problem with wifi. sometimes the phone can't reactivate the wifi module after i used bluetooth in the car. only restart helps
Yeah, I've been having the same issue since upgrading to lollipop.
I remember those issues with one of the older versions of android, but on 4.4.4 all was fine, I could see the networks and connect to them.
Now I no longer see any of the 5Ghz networks.

My nexus 4 (with Lollipop) behaves a bit differently. It does see 5GHz networks when set to 5GHz only, but doesn't see them in automatic mode.
Hi, I'm having a weird problem, I just received a new 11ac wifi card for my computer so I decided to test the wifi capabilities of the S4 by creating a 5Ghz access point on my computer. To my surprise I can only get 80Mhz BW on channels <128, channel 132 gives me 40Mhz BW, 136 & 140 give me 20Mhz and anything above is not visible on the S4.
The wifi card is an EDUP EP-AC1605 with a MT7612u chipset (2T2R 80Mhz).
It could be the access point but I'm not sure, does anyone know anything about this?

Hello xda members, I am facing a serious problem of 5GHz wifi netwroks. My university routers have two frequency ranges 2.4GHz and 5GHz. And as Mi A1 also support dual wifi band so my phone keeps on switching wifi networks and it remain unstable even if I sit under the router because when it connects to 5GHz network it become unstable and again connect to 2.4 network and then keep on switching networks. both the networks are single and doesn't show different frequencies and it only show frequency when it connects to network .I googled this problem but not found a satisfactory answers. Actually there was a feature in android nougat to select wifi band manually but this feature was removed in oreo and pie. Kindly suggest any solution. It would be a great help.

I personally think that the Android one team at Xiaomi is trying to ruin the mi a1. I think they're trying to promote the mi A2 more. As I'm still facing issues with wifi not connecting and automatically disconnecting in custom ROMs. There is no solution as of now, and I've lost faith in Xiaomi's Android one program. This is probably the worst purchase decision I've ever made. I'm going to move to the mi 9 se. My Mi A1 is only a year old..
[Guide][Root] How to disable 5 GHz Wi-Fi
Following this post by Ironsigh on LG G3 subforum, I was able to disable 5 GHz Wi-Fi on my rooted Xiaomi Mi A1:
Open a root shell using adb:
Code:
adb shell
Navigate to /vendor/etc/wifi:
Code:
cd /vendor/etc/wifi
Mount /system as read-write:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /
Open WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini:
Code:
nano WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
On line 253 (your line number may be different), change BandCapability=0 to BandCapability=1:
Code:
#Preferred band (both or 2.4 only or 5 only)
BandCapability=0
Possible values are:
0 = Use both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
1 = Use 2.4 GHz only
2 = Use 5 GHz only
Save the file and exit the editor
Remount /system as read-only:
Code:
mount -o remount,ro /
Hello I have a Pixel 4 (US store), but it can't find 5GHz networks working on channels 36, 40, 44, 48, only upper channels are working, does anyone knows how to unlock all channels? this is not a problem in my router as other devices works without problems.
Also if I put my phone in airplane mode -> restart the phone -> turn wifi on and it finds and connect such 5GHz network
Any ideas? maybe a magisk module to change wifi region to unknown?
thanks!
