Does anyone have any idea what caused this streak down the center of the screen? There is no problem with the response to touch. That is working fine. Thanks.

I believe it has something to do with the floating glass issue, In some cases on the nexus 7 the glass isn't connecting to the below surface very good. the is some space between the glass and the next layar. this is causing this kind of issues, you should google this thing.
I googled this before posting and came up with nothing.
I posted on another forum and got a similar response like yours. Probably screen separating as it also shows up when the Nexus is off.
Got any ideas on how to fit it?

New LCD you will probably need to get a pre glued digitaliser and LCD

Thanks for confirming. I'm watching a couple of the complete assemblies on ebay.

Just looking at replacing the screen on my blackstone as I've scratched it to buggery, so was perusing ebay and happened to stumble across this little beauty:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/for-HTC-Touch...trkparms=65:12|66:2|39:1|72:1683|293:1|294:50
Really HAD to share this with the community and see how other people react to the fact the screen on this looks like its made out of paper. In fact one edge is bent in the first picture.
...epic lulz.
Also on a side note, can anyone recommend a method for getting the screen replaced cheaply? I'm tempted to call HTC; I'm well within warranty, having only had the phone for 5 months but I know they're gonna charge me an arm and a leg. I see a lot of digitizers on ebay, but not sure if they include the front screen part which I actually need to get rid of the scratches. Any help would be great!
The seller has nearly 10000 positive feed-back and the screen looks fine to me.
Although how someone who needs a new screen because he does not even use a screen protector can describe someone else as an epic failure is beyond me.
heres the service manual, hope be helpful..
enjoy...

Yes I noticed the seller has a good positive feedback, but don't you think that the fact it looks like it's made of paper is slightly amusing?
And yes, I didn't use a screen protector... sue me. This is why I was asking for help from a knowledgable community; thanks for the flame and a post of non-useful information.
Cheers for the service manual limx, having a flick through now
I could totally be off because I am new to this techie stuff but the listing says "This is Touch Screen (Digitizer) only, LCD Screen is NOT Included"
Yeah, that is just the digitizer, hence why it is "paper" thin. They are supposed to be!

From my experience, it is really hard to change de digitalizer because it is fixed to the screen. And if you force too much, you will break the screen also...
Just buy the kit screen+digitalizer, easier to replace but also more expansive
I'm starting this thread as a central database for CDMA Hero owners to share defects and bugs in Hardware and Software.
My apologies if this has been addressed else-where.
Found with my Girlfriend's and my "with Google" Heros that we both have a noticeable amount of dust under the screen (glass). I thought this was addressed with rev. 2 of the phone?
Anyone one else with the same issue?
paint on case is VERY easy to chip...
I agree the finish seems a little delicate. I've been using a cheap hard plastic case since I got mine in dec. Helps alot with wear and tear, and isn't too bulky or hard to get out of my pocket.
i agree with the paint issue.
my end button is totally red not silver and red
I had a dust issue with my first (unbranded).
The first thing I did with my replacement (with google) hero was to apply an invisible shield to it. I have not noticed any dust under the screen whatsoever.
Also, although it isn't exactly pretty, I found while applying the invisible shield that it did not cover the gap between screen and button pad. As a quick fix to this I cut a thin piece of invisible shield material that was left over and applied it over the crack/screen protector/button pad protector. Just for some extra protection.
For shocks, I have the phone in the HTC silicone case. My phone has taken a number of falls/skids across the ground and stuff and this combo has protected it completely.
Edit:
Almost forgot, my original also seemed to develop a wear mark on the metal button pad finish. It was as if a part of the layer had rubbed off and tarnished in a circular pattern.
about the dust under the screen...
i contacted htc about before. the person who i emailed replied to me saying that htc has a permanent fix for the problem, so you can send it in and they'll replace/clean the screen and apply some fix to it. catch is, you have to pay for S&H and you'll go without a phone for a bit

I have a ridiculous amount of dust in the lower left hand corner of my screen... so much so that part of the screen isn't visible anymore. Do you think Sprint would just let me exchange it for a new one? Or would I still have to go through HTC?

well i e-mailed htc about this twice. the first time they said that if the dust got bad enough, i could send it to HTC and they'd repair it. they also said this:
I understand how frustrating it can be for dust to collect under the screen of your device. We have recently learned that Sprint has a process in place to resolve this issue. Please contact Sprint for the location of your nearest Sprint Service and Repair facility. They are equipped to clean your device, and in doing so will be able to keep the issue from recurring in the future. I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

which pretty much means that the sprint store should be able to repair it for free.

That's great to hear! Nice to know it's not like my Mogul was. They just kept giving me broken phones until I bought my hero....
I had heard about the dust problem before, and was glad that I didn't have that problem yet... After reading this thread, I decided to look again.... Now I do have dust in the bottom right
It seems to me that the problem is dust entering between the keypad and the screen, and then getting up underneath of the digitizer which doesn't seem to be against the LCD, which is strange, I think. Most handhelds I've taken apart have the digitizer glued around the edges directly to the LCD. Thank god that HTC and Sprint are actually addressing this problem. If someone does know how and where this seal is applied, I'd love to know. I might be taking mine back before too long, and I always would like to know what they're going to do beforehand.

OMG i loved the mogul till I realized the CPU was slow the whole thing was slow and in my 2 years i went through 8 of them. That was the best money ever spent on TEP
Seriously you guys should have no problem exchanging that phone in warranty without TEP IF you take it to the shop and they cant resolve your dust issue they will ship you a remanufactured phone.

This is 100% inaccurate. I'm a Sprint tech and there is no process in place for repairing Hero's with dust in the screen. Sure I can take your phone apart and blow the dust out, but it will come back.

Same here. Otherwise no issues.
The stock roms sucks.
But seriously, same as everyone else
-Dust under screen
-Button paint chipping off
At least it isn't near as bad as the Touch Pro. My buddy and I both had one; he still has his... His volume buttons literally fell off, and all of the chrome stripping is held on with scotch tape. The sliding screen has a slight swivel to it. And, thanks to Microsoft, all of his texts are from 1016.
Actually, I'm considering taking my Hero apart and trying to figure out a fix on my own. I think I'll wait just a little longer... just to make sure nothing fails and I can't take it back. Or, is there anywhere I can buy those black stickers for the screw-heads?
I'm surprised none of you guys have seen this yet.

Interesting, I loved my Touch Pro, the only flaking or issues with the aesthetics I had were from where it met pavement once...there's also a .cab file your friend can download that will fix the date issue...I'd post a link but I'm not sure of XDA's linking policies to other sites, just google ".cab fix for touch pro sms date," it's one of the first results.
As far as bugs and manufacturer defects with my Hero go, I've had the phone for a little over a month now and haven't anything to report...it does lag a little at times but I've yet to find a rooting process that works for my Hero for whatever reason, it's the newest version with the "with Google" branding. The "one touch root" or whatever it was titled from unlockr didn't work, nor did the one I found on android forums.
I didn't get stuck in a bootloader or anything for either process, it's simply that neither one had any affect; I did follow both process to a "T." I'll get around to trying the tutorial I found on here (XDA) one day when I have time, although I must say, I kind of prefer the hacks and tricks of WinMo at this point.

Hi all out there,
My xoom has no backlight? in some angle I'm able to see what's on my home screen, but it's all dark, totally unable to work around...
Someone know something about that? You guys around here are my only help. I have no warranty, cause I bought it from US and I'm i Europe....
Greets,
Philip
Interesting, this person here have the same issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767082
Hmm I still don't think it's a software sided issue but a hardware issue. You could open your XOOM and if there is anything wrong with the connectors, but you will properly have to replace the whole LCD screen. I had a few LCD TV fail on me before and it's generally the back-light that goes first, so it's not that surprising. Hmm another problem is I looked on ebay over here and a new LCD screen or touch digitizer actually costs more than what it's worth.
Greetings,
I tried to search for this problem on this forum but I couldn't find anything specific to this device.
The tablet works fine in all aspects, except the screen flickers when the aluminum back is stressed, i.e. when its being held. The tablet screen will flicker in brightness as the back is pressed.
Usually the most reliable way to reproduce the problem is to flex the tablet, as if you were trying to split a piece of plastic into two by gradually flexing it until it breaks.
Therefore, I have concluded it is a hardware problem, but I don't know exactly what.
I apologize if I'm difficult to understand, and if you need any clarification, let me know.
Thank you everyone for your time.

Hey Kevin,
Yeah, seems like a hardware issue. But I advise not to "flex" the back too much
Probably could be 2 things.
1. Loose connector for the digitizer
2. Bad digitizer
3. Something grounding out against the case.
So my guess would be to spit the case apart. You can find videos on Google Search showing the procedure at You Tube. Then a good inspection of components, paying attention to connectors and the boards (for cracking).
I saw the other day that there are plenty of parts available for the 500, like digitizers, display glass and several other items. Check E-bay.

Thanks for your advice Moscow Desire. I've taken the back off before but noticed nothing unusual. Should I just take every component that can be separated out and inspect it? Sounds like a recipe for disaster for an inexperienced person like me.

Hi Moscow Desire,
I have taken my tablet apart with the instruction from the videos but I didn't see anything that is loosen so far. Do you think I will need to unscrew everything until I take out the screen to know what's wrong? My screen keeps flickering with white lines at the edge of the screen and it's really annoying. :crying:
Thanks!
Hello, everybody!
I recently replaced my Nexus 7's screen and digitizer and now my screen looks really bad.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to fix it?
I've tried taking everything apart, twice, to see if maybe I hooked a wire wrong or something but I get the same results.

this is what's put me off getting one from ebay, mines only a week old and cracked due to not that much thumb pressure debating cutting my losses and throwing it in the bin if this is how weak the screens are
You should really change that. There is no way that is a software issue
