[Q] Galaxy S5 Models? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT:
INTERNATIONAL VERSION IS 900F
So I found a list on GSMARENA that shows what each model of the S5 is
Available as:
Samsung SM-G900F/SM-G900H - for Europe
Samsung SM-G900I - for Asia
Samsung SM-G900K/G900L/G900S - for Korea
Samsung SM-G900M - for Vodafone
Samsung SM-G900A - for AT&T
Samsung SM-G900T - for T-Mobile
Samsung SM-G900V - for Verizon
Samsung SM-G900R4 - for US Cellular
Samsung SM-G900P - for Sprint
Samsung SM-G900W8 - for Canada
My question is, what would the standard international version be called?
Also, since they are all SM-G900, does that mean roms would be interflashable? the naming scheme for the carrier versions seems to have changed from the previous generation.

Is there any model as sg-900???

In a vodafone shop in Australia last week, the one they had said SM-900X

so does that mean I can install another region into my Australian version?
ie: from sm-g900i to sm-g900f?

SM-G900W8 - Canada

SM - G900 Fake
Sorry if you have already read this reply on another post, but I just want to raise awareness / get some answers (if possible):
Hi, I'm not trying to pun on anyone, but I bought a SM - G900 (*no letter after it), it is an international phone, it is factory unlocked, works with a micro SIM, I have a 30 Gb micro SD card in it, rooted, making phone calls and connecting to the internet via my provider's data plan (Ultra Mobile) and through wifi, but here's the truth about this phone!:
* It says that it has 16 Gb of internal storage (BIG FAT LIE!), even though I says that in the settings, you will fill it up with a couple of applications, and it will quickly state that there's not enough space, I connected it to my computer using MKT drivers, and it still shows those 15.something Gb, but the files in it just take about 3, including the ROM, and it says I only have 500 MB left.
* There's supposed to be a 1.27 Gb phone storage (1.27? Really? not 2 Gb, not one, but 1.27), and that fills up pretty fast too. And displays it as an internal SD card in the file browser.
* I added a 30 Gb micro SD card, I actually purchased this card specially for this phone ... Which now it's just a waste of money, it mounts, but, when I installed Link2Sd on the phone, it just keeps transferring the applications from the internal to the phone storage to the phone storage itself, I tried formatting the card as ext4, ext3, ext2, swap and it keeps getting reformatted to fat32 every time the phone detects it, it says that the sd card is damaged and needs to be formatted, so you're pretty much stuck to whatever the real storage amount the phone has. I even tried making a 2nd partition with Mini Partition tool and Aparted, but then, the phone doesn't mount the 2nd partition, only the first one.
* The pictures and videos taken from the camera, can automatically go to the sd card, but they get corrupted after a reboot with no option of recovering them, **ssed me of because I had taken a video of my 2 yr old son saying "I love you daddy".
* It is rooted, but not through a custom rom or anything like it, I mean, IT ALREADY CAME WITH A CUSTOM ROM! So it was already rooted, I tried One Click Root and the application said that the phone was successfully rotted, but Super User had not been installed on it, downloaded SU from play store, only to find out that the phone already had root acces, just had to install SU to give apps permissions.
* The screen mirroring on Samsung smart Tv's doesn't work, it's not even picked up as a media device when connected through USB to it.
* The battery literally dies after only 3 hours of use (as opposed to the battery life on the real S5) without any low battery warning.
* The smart pause and smart scroll doesn't work correctly, the videos pause as you are watching them and the scroll actually makes the screen twitch.
* Cannot download any Samsung apps to it BECAUSE IT'S NOT REALLY SAMSUNG!
* Doesn't come with the Samsung Navigator, you have to download google maps, and, at least to me, Samsung navigator is better.
* Driving mode NEVER enables, even if you enable it manually or put it in a dock.
* IT IS NOT WATERPROOF!
* IT IS NOT A RUGGED PHONE!
* CANNOT flash another custom rom to it (or at least I have been afraid to do it) because there seems to be nothing compatible with it and don't want to turn it into a brick.
* The IMEI on the phone DOESN'T exist on the IMEI check list!
* Even though I had to use the MKT drivers to connected to the computer, I tried the original S5 drivers and it doesn't connect, and the mass storage driver never installs succesfully, so no mass storage device driver for it.
* Custom recovery? Well, it already comes with one ... IN CHINESE! So you really can tell what to click without erasing the phone.
* Stock recovery ... it does have it, so you press the volume up button and the power on button at the same time, and you get the dead android logo, then you press volume up again along with the home key and you get into the stock recovery, but can't partition from there ... lame.
* No gorilla screen on this one.
* It cost me $300.00 usdlls, which is not fair, the phone does exactly the same and works the same as a $50 - $100 usdll phone.
* It is a replica, there's no original Samsung anything in it, even tried Samsung live support (the one that you can see the live representative through google hangouts) and the guy said ... literally ... and I quote: "I'm sorry, I can't give out any support for your phone because that serial number is incorrect (I sent him the picture of the sn from the sticker inside the phone), the IMEI doesn't exist and Samsung doesn't make a SM - G900 model, it has to have a letter at the end of this for identification", and then he just closed the session, without any further explanation, just like that, without noticing me that the support session had to be closed.
End point being: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

I have a sm-G900H, im from Central America

I'm sorry, but did you really think you were getting an authentic S5 for $300. Also, were you aware you were buying a clone beforehand?

I already new it was a replica, but didn't know it had so many limitations, I have had an Orbit Z50 in the past, and that phone works great, I actually loved it, but had it stolen . I guess that what I was trying to say is that I payed $300 for a $50 phone (functionality wise). Oh, and now, it doesn't detect my sdcard either. I just wish I could just flash one of the SM - G900 ROMS into it, at least it will have a better ROM, Oh, and also forgot to mention, it DOES NOT have KITKAT, it has a "pimpped up" version of Jelly Bean

[Q] Uh, No Samsung Kies Option?

Am I crazy? Kies wont recognize my phone in either of the two USB modes. I use Kies for my Captivate and its quite handy. Im really upset with this phone so far between the whole Bing thing, the lack of an internal SD card, possibly no Kies connection, no TV out, and a few other things that are bugging me. I was hoping that there was more similarity between the Captivate, Fascinate, and Vibrant, but apparently there are a few very major differences...

Ongoing issue. I doubt it will be fixed, but one can hope. It works with PC suite software.

what do you mean "no internal SD card"? the SD card it inside the battery cover. as for the TV out, it seems to be a software issue and from what i have seen it may be fixed when the 2.2 update comes out.
jatilq, how would one get the PC suite software that works with the Fascinate? I've spent the better part of 2 days trying to get Kies to work with no luck whatsoever.

On the Captivate there is an "internal SD card" (not accessible by the user), as well as the external SD card slot which the user can fill with a card of his/her choice.
On the Captivate, this boils down to 2 GB of "Internal Phone Storage", 16 GB of "Internal SD card" space (13 GB usable), and however large of an SD card you put in it for "External SD card" space. Thus, a 16 GB card will net you 32 GB of total available storage space on the phone.
On the Fascinate, you have 2 GB of "Internal Phone Storage", and the "External SD Card" of your choice (ships with 16 GB). Thus, the 16 GB card it ships with nets you only 16 GB of total available storage space on the phone, as opposed to the 32 GB the same size card would get you on the Captivate.
~T.J.
EDIT: Here is a quick Google (not Bing...) image search of the phone storage menu from a Captivate. Notice this whole menu is the internal card. If you scrolled up, above it is the menu for the external card which looks identical. The available internal phone memory is only 700 MB because of the user, when new this is 1.74 GB or so just like the Fascinate.

EDIT AGAIN: It looks like the Vibrant is also setup the same as the Captivate. Way to go VZ...

Yes, i'm curious what the PC suite software is. I have a few employees that have fascinates and we're trying to figure out how to sync the fascinate with Outlook for contacts and calendar. I have a Captivate and use Kies.
Some here may have different opinions, but I personally will accept the lack of the on-board storage chip, knowing that I have a flash for my camera. They probably figured the camera flash was a more worthwhile feature to most people, and cut the on-board storage as a compromise to keep costs down.

Oh, and BTW, I believe I remember seeing an official statement from Samsung somewhere, stating that Kies updates are only intended for the GT-i9000, and should not be applied to the US Galaxy S variants. I don't have a link to the source handy though, sorry.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
it would appear, that on aggregate from other forums as well as my own install attempts, that the SCH-I500 is NOT compatible with kies.
all driver issues have been worked out, USB modes understood and adjusted, and now it just says "not supported".
latest versions, appropriate permissions, reboots, etc... it's not going to happen.
the galaxy S phones really are in no-mans-land. even the manufacturer won't support it, which is really odd, I thought it was well received across multiple carriers.

[Q] Newbie questions

I just got a Samsung Vibrant yesterday from a 3rd party, and I'm very excited. I know I need to read a lot on this site, but since this is my 1st smartphone, please forgive my basic/naive questions, be gentle on me, and give me some directions so that I won't have to walk in the darkness.
1) I haven't done anything essential to the phone yet, and I'm considering to root, unlock and the phone, and upgrade from 2.1-update1 to 2.2. Which one should I start first, root, unlock, or upgrade? Even though I haven't done much on the phone, do I still need to go through the backup before rooting?
2) Between the IMEI and S/N barcodes, there is '10.10' on the phone which I assume is the manufacture time of Oct. 2010. Would the GPS 'fix' be done with my phone (Build Number: Eclair.UVJI6)? Considering the amount of complaints about the GPS on Samsung Vibrant, how does the GPS work with offline applications like CoPilot? Where should I put the CoPilot Map, in internal or external SD?
3) If I want to make phone calls through WIFI connections without eating up my minutes, what kind of VOIP combination should I consider? Google Voice?
4) What web browser do you recommend? Other nice applications should I put in?
5) When I select Avatar, it says "File not found". Is it supposed to be in the external SD (which seems empty)? Where can I get the file?
Thanks a lot for your help!
I would suggest reading the bible in the Development section. or this
get the proper drivers here.
root with Superoneclick found here. There is another version floating around that works better that is called SuperOneClick for Froyo.
fix 3e recovery (if running stock froyo) software found here runs from your computer with your phone connected and usb debugging turned on.
download the Clockwork Recovery Unlock.zip from either Rom Manager or here (put it in your phones internal SD root)
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TeamWhiskey's Rom Bionix-V 1.2.1 found here
But I would suggest getting to know your Vibrant/android phone if you have never owned one first.
Edit: Calling over wifi uses your plan's minutes. Its meant for poor reception areas where you might have wifi with broadband internet.
Edit2: Most people get rid of the "Avatar" its just the movie and takes up space. I believe it should be on the SD card that came with the phone.
Congrats on the phone
1st is to root it you can use the super-one-click, like the previous post said. There are other rooting but this one is very easy
After that, Read up on the roms the Axura, Trigger, Einherjar, and Bionix are all fine and depending on your need you have really great choices, the Axura has remarkable battery life, for example. So do the reading on which you would like. Once you pick one flash it. Then get Rom manager and Titanium back up. Free from the app store. Then you can start playing. Should you decide that you do not like or just want to try another rom, you can flash over the last most times with out problems. One thing (read the bible) if you do flash over one of the custom roms you will need to disable the voodoo lagfix. This is actually a file conversion. So Read up on that as well. Hope that helps you.

I too got a vibrant yesterday and then upgraded to 2.2 of skies mini. The problem is now I have not found a way to get it rooted with 2.2. Any ideas?

There is the super one click or you can get a copy of the update folder that roots the phone.... place it on the internal sd card go to recovery and install update...... that also will do it. LOOK IN THE STICKY/BIBLE
Thanks a lot for the great help, FlyingPoo and oka1! I really appreciate it.
A couple of more newbie questions:
1) When making phone calls, sometimes I need to key in some options after the phone is connected (for example, when you call a customer service 800 number). How can I bring up a on-screen keyboard when the phone is already connected?
2) It seems my Samsung Vibrant has much weaker WIFI reception than my Mac laptop, and I have to bring the phone closer to the router to get detectable WIFI signal. Is there anyway I can boost the phone's reception capability?
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Windows Explorer not seeing External SD

Hello
For some reason, when I plug the tablet to my PC I can only see the internal SD Card. Does someone know how to see the external SD card? Other posts have suggested to copy the files to the internal SD and then copy from here to the external SD. That would be a huge pain. Does anyone know how to tackle this?
Thanks!
If you know how to use ADB you can access it at mnt/external_sd
You will have to learn ADB commands but it is acccessable through that.
In the "First start information" document that came with my Acer, it states:
Transferring files from a microSD card (optional) to your PC
Remove the card from the tablet and use a card reader or USB adapter to access the card as an external storage device.
That works, but it is a pain. What I've done instead is:
(1) Root Acer
(2) Install cifs.ko module (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058713)
(3) download cifsmanager from Marketplace
Cifsmanager can then be used to mount disks on your Windows PC via a network connection. You can then use any application to access files on the PC (so use a file manager like Astro to copy files back and forth). Personally, I find I just leave the files on the PC and access them via the network (play movies, read books, etc.).
Thanks for the information. Other than that issue, this tablet rocks.

Acer overlooked the MicroSD I think. Since it can be seen by adb I'm assuming the fix is easy for a team of programmers to write in.
If enough of us email their support or call them and drop the Asus bomb, they may include it in the next big update.
That's what I did. I said "I'm not able to access the microsd card in the unit from the PC as I would normally my phone and it's extremely inconvenient. I'm aware the Asus EEE Transformer does so it doesn't seem to be an OS limitation".
Once enough people complain it will hopefully get noticed. Hopefully it's in their agenda anyway.
This issue is one of the reasons I sold my gtab and switched to the Acer. At least I can store data on the acer's sdcard. The gtab erases all data on the sdcard every time you reboot.

Please let us know how this turns out. I've emailed support for other issues (cell standby mostly), and keep being told my unit is defective and I need to send it in via mail (which conveniently would take me past the return/exchange date) ... so I'm not really happy with support.
this is something i never understood. my 1st tablet (and android anything) was an archos 101, and when plugged into usb, 2 drives would appear in windows. internal and external drives. i thought that was the way android did things. grabbed a gtab expecting the same thing as well as the iconia.the gtab went back and i bought the iconia and plan on keeping it, but it is the 1 big thing that irks me about it. everything else is perfect.
I just picked up my Acer this week, and today when I set it up to transfer music via Airtwist to my A500 I noticed that there seems to be no way to set it up to store the music on my microSD card; it comes up saying it needs to store it on the internal. Probably the same issue that keeps it from showing up in Windows. Now I just have to figure out how to set it up to transfer into the microSD so I don't have to drag it all there the hard way.

That's simply not true. Why would you want to discredit a device like that, I don't get it. Maybe you had a mod/rom on there that wasn't working right but I had stock on there 80% of the time and TnT lite on there 20% and I've NEVER had anything being erased on my SDcard.

I've gotten some reps that made me want to pull my hair out and some that actually 'SEEM' to try. I was able to call and make the report (for free!) I actually have reported several things since I got the unit now and when I write back about it I'm told that they're working on a bugfix - this is a BIG upgrade from before where I was told the same thing as everyone else so they're not ignoring us. We just have to be patient and consistent. In the next week I'm going to post a list here with some known issues and see if we can get it validated.
One thing I hate is when people post their issues as 'fact' like I see a few people doing. We have to try to coordinate and work out what are really issues and what are more, individual problems (like people complaining about weak wifi, etc.).
Then I'm going to make a list and give Acer a call and see what exactly they have in their systems as 'known', etc.

That's simply not true. Why would you want to discredit a device like that, I don't get it. Maybe you had a mod/rom on there that wasn't working right but I had stock on there 80% of the time and TnT lite on there 20% and I've NEVER had anything being erased on my SDcard.

S7 EDGE SM-G935F XEU or BTU rom issue - What ROM SHOULD I USE ? Unbranded phone?

Hi
I bought my Samsung S7 Edge G935F a year ago from Samsung uk. It is factory unlocked etc.
Recently I upgraded to nougat 7.0 (OTA). it is working well. However, i discovered an issue with bluetooth and connection to my BMW 535D E60.
on version 6.xx the phone was working with the car and it was connecting.
Now with 7 it does not want to connect to the car. The phone finds the car bluetooth, but does not proceed with the connection. (it accepts the pin etc too )
So i thought it might be the bluetooth in my car... I tried iphone 6, Sony Z5 Premium running nougat. they both work fine with the car. So its phone related.
Now to make matters worse. I though maybe i should re-flash the device using ODIN and firmware downloaded from sam mobile.
So i downloaded the XEU flashed the rom, and now in my settings i have extra menus etc.
G935FXXU1DQB7_G935FXEU1DQB1_XEU
"T Roaming"
"Service Provider" .>>>> Shows GIGA LTE, KT Twophone service...
I did some resarech and KT is pointing to Korea?
I have then downloaded the following ROM
G935FXXU1DPLT_G935FOXA1DPLT_BTU
This rom did not change the menu much. The GIGA LTE, KT Twophone is still showing up.
On top of that If my on screen keyboard has autocorrect turned on.. then i cannot type any full words. I start typing 1st letter, then 2nd letter, BUT 2nd letter overwrites the 1st letter and does not move to position 2...
it on 1st space... I have to press SPACEBAR and then backspace to type the 2nd letter and so on for 3rd an 4th and...... I turn off autocorrect it works.
can someone point out to me WHICH firmware ROM i should be using ( STOCK) to flash my phone with ODIN? A link would be great.

I have been dealing with this same problem for 2 weeks now trying to get a fix for it. My problem is almost identical except for the fact that i cant connect to any networks and it now says invalid sim card. It was unlocked previously so idk why it would say invalid sim card. i can reflash the firmware and it makes the KT giga lte twophone references in settings go away but it also gets rid of mobile networks menu in general. @autoprime mentioned to me that you could go into iothiddenmenu and then as long as you havent backed up your nv items that have the currently bad settings (korean stuff) than you can do an NV restore to fix this issue but for some reason i cant even get into IoTHiddenMenu for whatever reason. If anyone can help with this issue that would be awesome because im stuck using an old iphone4 until then and its getting rather annoying.

Error wile searching network | Nexus 6P 32GB (H1511) | WTR3925 RF Transceiver problem

Hi All!!
I have a Nexus 6P 32GB (H1511) Model: Nin-A1. I bought it second hand in Israel (originally the device purchased in the US).
A month ago, the device stopped receiving cellular networks. When I do a manual search for networks, a message appears: "Error wile searching network".
I used the device regularly, there were no updates that day and I did not change anything in settings.
I took the device to the lab. The diagnosis: The software is fine, there is a problem with a Qualcomm WTR3925 RF Transceiver.
In the lab they demanded a very high price for the repair (250$), so I took my nexus without repair.
Now I don't know what to do ... I love my Nexus and I don't want to throw out my phone...
Overall I can replace the problematic chip, but before that there are a few questions:
1. How to diagnose that the OEM chip is 100% faulty, and not some other chip?
2. After chip replacement, is it necessary to flash it? Or is it just enough to replace it?
3. After replacing the chip, how can I check that there is no short circuit?
Thanks.

Until you backup and then completely wipe your phone you will not know. You need to get ADB/Fastboot working fully on your PC first and then unlock the bootloader / wipe the phone. Go to Google's developer website where the full images are located. There are complete instructions on how to restore your phone to factory stock. Only until you have a factory stock device running Android 8.0 will you know for sure whether it is a hardware problem. If you really need/want to keep your phone you must go through these steps first. If the problem persists, you can discard the phone knowing it was a hardware defect.
...
All this was done. The problem is not solved.
