[Q] What is OpenSource Code Distribution? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was looking for Sprint's kitkat update and came across LG's OpenSource Code Distribution. I'd post the link, but the software here won't let me. It has kernel and Android ZVC for download. Is this the kitkat update? If it is, how do I install it?
Thanks.

if you are speaking of this https://www.lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensourceList?types=ALL&search=LS980 then that is the source for the ls980 and the ZVC is kk but I do not know how would you flash it have you downloaded it so we can know what's inside the zip, it might just have the files needed to compile a rom

yes indeed
Yes, it is the source code. Plus there is a readme file with instructions on how to compile it into a rom. My point was that LG has given it to Sprint to compile after March 25th, the date on the files. So we should get it very soon.

Porting D855 Lollipop Update for D850

Hello,
Working on porting .kdz Lollipop update file for D855 for D850. When I try to extract files from .kdz file, it says the headers are incorrect. I have tried just about every .kdz file extractor I can find, but all read the same error.
The link to the file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/leak-lollipop-5-0-android-l-d85519h00-t2934345
When a solution is found, I will post the ported ROM as soon as possible.
I am posting here because I do not have 10 posts, therefore I can not post in the Development section.
Thanks,
Christian D
Isn't the problem with it not running for the D850 missing kernel sources? If we get a leak or an official for the D850, then it would be fixed. At least as that's what I was getting from reading through Cloudy 2.0 thread.
Yes that's the issue. With no stock kernel for D850 lollipop it will be near impossible to get a stable port running. You are correct in that you read that in Cloudys thread. He actually says that verbatim and that he will not release lollipop Cloudy without the official kernel. Unfortunately, like always, AT&T has to lie to themselves for months and make themselves believe people actually use their ****ty bloatware before they release the update. Tbh I think my next device is going to be a nexus device. I know they have had issues with lollipop but Google is fast to patch for the most part.
At least we don't have Verizon. Verizon customers won't get their update until Verizon figures out how to get lollipop to burn the Verizon logo into the user's retina thus completing the objective theyve been going after for years with the ever increasing amount of logos on their devices.... All their user will ever see is the Verizon logo. *queue ominous monk chant*

LG Canada refuses D803 LP update - any chance of using D800 ?

According to this and this, LG Canada is refusing to update the G2 to Lollipop or release the kernel.
I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the D800 source code is close enough to the D803 to be usable ?

what you could do :
get a gitcompare on the kernel defconfig, d803 vs d802 in kitkat source, which is available. I know in kitkat, one could take a d802 rom and flash a d803 kernel on top and be done.
http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=ALL&search=D803
So, it might be VERY similar.
Then, verify the blobs in vendor. and see if anything is different.
THEN head over to mahdi rom thread and ask around for dr87's patch for different models. Somebody, somewhere already knows all of this. NOW, if the radio is different for lollipop, then houstonn, we have a problem. I'm not building any roms now. There's just too much time involved in getting it all together and building and xda and all. But this would be my approach.

thanks for the reply - I'm doing this for the first time (though I'm a professional programmer on Linux). could you help out in clarifying what do you mean when you say defconfig diff. The kernel source for the KK DD803 has these defconfigs : http://pastebin.com/qZh4c8Nu
secondly, to verify the binary blobs - do I need to download the entire source (as opposed to just the kernel) ? I'm not sure how to do this via commandline - do you have a diff command ?
Hi. Below lolipop distro is working on d803
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-vk-v5-0-f320s-l-k-d80x-vs-ls980-l01f-t3134093
I am getting network disconnects, but probably something we can work through together. together Everything else seems to be working pretty well

sorry mate, that got lost.
I think someone tried it and said it did not work.
my g2 is dead. this is a quick diffchecker
https://www.diffchecker.com/
it will show differences between d803 and d802. I'd compare kitkat sources and apply to lollipop.
Binary blobs : The blobs are in the vendor part of the source.
You've got the Rom (ie, cm)
then, the device tree (d80x)
the kernel tree (d80x)
and then, the vendor tree. Blobs or what you would call drivers are in the vendor tree.
I'm not gonna detail everything, there are TONS of "cook your own rom" tutorials on xda. The vendor files might prove a problem. But if you're lucky, the d802 should work. You'd need to edit out the sdcard in device tree too.
Sounds easy when written, I just don't have the patience to do it anymore. It is VERY time consuming.
cheers mate

LG LEON H340N Marshmallow sources?

Hi guys,
I was looking at LG's opensource website, and I found this: http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=ALL&search=h340n
I have the H340N version, look at that row! Is this mean we have the official sources for a Marshmallow build?
well i saw a bit from the licence and probablly if there is a design upgrade we will have UX 4.0 and there are no live wallpapers as 360 degree wallpapers or cat live wallpaper or kaleidoscope live wallpaper no i am looking at the source i downloaded and i am reading some **** on how to compile it ..........

sure I do not know how fast I will finish it because I am working on something that I have not said I am trying to make some lg g 5 ux5.0 themed lg stock apps for the lg leon so we will see plus i have exams right now
The Marshmallow sources appear to have been taken down - they were certainly there yesterday as I downloaded them.
So does this mean that they've found an issue with those sources and are having to recut them, or has Marshmallow development for the Leon been cancelled? Only time will tell.

I can also tell you It's my fault. I wrote an email to LG, and I asked them about the situation. The same day they taken down the sources (I also noticed that). And they answered that:
"Dear Customer,
We've got the answer from relevant department.
Upgrading LGH340N to Marshmallow is not decided yet.
We hope this information is helpful.
Thank you. "
So, there you have it guys.
ps: Please don't delete the sources if you downloaded them already
Even with the sources and if we manage to compile them, most of us won't be able to benefit from them as most LG Leon devices unfortunately comes with a locked bootloader. Even with images compiled from official LG sources, we won't be able to utilize them due to that they're unsigned and won't boot without an unlocked bootloader.
for real now how is it not decided yet that there is going to be a marshmallow upgrade since in the licence file we could clearly see that there were apps and by apps I mean all the apps at system/apps and system/priv-apps and all the other files so how it is still not decided

Do you think that you could mirror a copy of the sources in a zip archive on some file upload website?

I have both sources and licence files (untouched) in my computer so basicly I could upload them in a website like mega or mediafire or android filehost or 4shared but I do not think that it will be that easy to do so because if the company removed the original files from the original web page for discussion then I find it odd for someone like me to reupload the files as mirrors although if it is that big of a deal for you guys to have them then I will do it

Yotaphone SDK v3 - how to install it on my Yota?

Hi fellows.
I've coded something using latest Yota SDK v3. Compilation does not give any error but the apk doesn't run on my Yota device and I think it's because the SDK v3 is not installed on it.
The details. As said, I compile successfuly using the SDK according actual instructions at yota web site, using:
dependencies
{
provided "com.yotadevices.libs.public:sdk:3.7.+"
}
(Which does not include the library onto the APK, yes, correct).
If I use the "false" condition at manifest file to do not require the library in the device <uses-library android:name="com.yotadevices.sdk" android:required="false"/> then the app is installed but it crashes saying the new Yota classes (like EpdIntentCompat and Epd are not found.
So I've deduced I don't have the library of the SDK v3 installed because if android:required="true" then I get the error INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY
My device is YD201 with Android 5.0 Build number LRX21M.5.0.0-HK1.1.124d (no system updates pending)
I read at Yota developer's web site that first requirement to use new v3 SDK is "1. Ensure that latest Android M software is installed;" and I assumed it was only at Android SDK but then you can target/install the App on Android 5.0, mainly because Android M is not yet released for Yota ¿?
So, what can I do?
Ps. BTW I would gladly code using SDK 2 but I can't find any documentation on Yota's site ¿?
Thanks!!
Heey, what are you making?
And well the documentation says it: you need android marshmallow for it to work. Your HK version phone will not update automatically to it. You would have to follow a guide to first get to 1.1.134 RU while keeping radio/modem unchanged and then install the latest marshmallow update. Thats what I did. But the process can be difficult and dangerous if you are not used to flashing phones.
Hi!
Well, I'm used to flash ROMs but I expect it will be automatically updated at some point, I hope after a while the MM updated will be rolled to other versions of YD201 than just RU (since I received the 5.0 as well). Anyway, I will manually flash it if not, no problem.
I've made an app and widget to display all notifications on EPD, which I miss on 4.4/5.0 but I think it will be useless on new MM version since it is already included as I've read, so...

Ok, I answer myself: yes, with Android 6.0 MM it works, the SDK v3 is included here. I've sideload updated my device to MM and it works now.

Chinese kernel?

Does anyone know if there is a kernel for our chinese variant?
I did try installing AX7 and beastmode but neither was able to boot for me.
Btw, is there a guide on how to create a kernel for our device? I only want one that patches safetynet or hides bootloader unlock status.
UP.

My unit is running on V2.0.0B01 mifavor 5 posted by @Demons-77 at 4pda which I installed via OTA only from B13 7.1.1.
Here's the link to that OTA: https://yadi.sk/d/v6Fwf_p13H55gy
Also, i could upload my stock boot.img dump which I took before I installed TWRP using tenfar's tool if that would help.
Thanks sir for looking into this thread.

In order to patch the kernel we need the sources. I'll take a look at your Ramdisk to see if there is any difference with the U and G model but my hunch is in the source without the code we can't add the patches :/.
Other solution is to use Magisk since that uses setxprop which hides the bootloader flag in the latest releases

Sorry I don't know where to find this unit's kernel source. I hope @Demons-77 could help with his connections.
I tried magisk v12 already but it still doesn't pass the safetynet check. Actually it doesn't pass also even without magisk and completely stock but unlocked bootloader.
