To install the OTA update for 4.4 you have to unroot. Is the 4.4 update worth losing root access?

A thread has already been started for 4.4.2 KitKat.

That would really be up to what you think is more important.
I am fine with running rooted 4.4 until the "official" gets root.
If you switch I do believe you will be stuck with it. I would think that MJ5 restore will work.

i had nexus7 32gb with android 4.1.1 / kernel 3.1.10 (without any modification, stock rom, without root, without unlock etc.)
i want to upgrade to latest android,
which way for upgrade is proper for my device?
firstly upgrade than root
or
firstly root than upgrade
upgrade then root. If you rooted first you would lose root with the upgrade and have to root again. Just upgrade first then root:good:
I would root first and update after that. Use the OTA rootkeeper app to keep root. (A lot of people had trouble rooting their device on 4.2)

Hi,
An OTA would unroot your phone anyway.
So you would have to re-root after you updated.

You Can Download the Latest Firmware Flash It Using ODIN and Then Root Ur Phone Again.
Thats the Best Way to Do it.
In Case If you just Need OTA then Factory reset Your Phone and You would get the Official Status Back

Hi,
You need to flash a stock ROM ,stock recovery ,then run Triangle Away from the market (if you were returning for warranty)
This will return your counter to 0.
It is all explained HERE
You should then be able to receive OTA
This is my first time updating a rooted device. I switched to android this summer. I am currently rooted on stock 4.2 MDL. To update to 4.3 I can't use the OTA right? Do I need to flash a copy of it myself since I'm already rooted? Or do I unroot then update? Not sure how the whole process works.
Don't update and please use a custom 4.3 ROM!

You cannot update a rooted device via OTA - it'll download, but it won't install. You have to unroot to install it, and I don't even think it works. - Better flashing it via Odin, then re-rooting.
If I am on sac's 4.4.2 and I take the OTA update will that take me back to stock and update me to 4.4.3? I'm sure i will lose root and get Knox but that's OK.
Thanks for the help

What OTA there is not a single OTA out past NAE. 4.4.3 is just a rumor right now. And you will have to unroot to take any form of OTA.
