I am super happy with ArchiDroid on my S3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-archidroid-v2-3-3-power-hands-t2354859
It's a really very performant ROM, has ton of options and a truly dedicated developer to work on the ROM. I am particularly fond of his choice of OmniROM as the foundation of the ROM for its Open Source policy.
Archi is willing to help out in porting and building the ROM for an S$, but unfortunately this is way beyond my capabilities. Can someone please try to see whether this is an option for him?
This would probably be one of the best ROMs available for the S4, I am sure.

I am NOT a developer!
I am a Systems Administrator, and I have built a 4.2 before using ubuntu 14.04, with a SGS2 i9100.
I have attempted in the past to ask for a device tree so I could build my own pure AOSP, and no one was able to help me.
SO, I now have my hands on a S4, and I want to put 5.0 on it.
I can create the build environment. either the windows version or the ubuntu version.
What I would like to know is which ROM would provide me a bit of instructions on how to use and build their ROM.
I'm looking for a ROM as close to AOSP as possible.
Preferably without any CyanogenMod builds, but I hightly doubt that is possible.
Seems everyone is using them for some reason.
I've been going to the ROM's section and I see no instructions on how to BUILD the rom.
Sure, I see their Github, but no info in what environment its been build in.
Can someone assist in helping find a ROM, so I can contribute to this community once I get the feel for it?
thank you!
You can try building cm to understand the basis, then move to aosp
Okay please feel free to delete if this is in the wrong place,
I cannot find for the life of me where or how what ROMS are AOSP and which aren't. I spend ages reading each ones. I basically would like a 5.1.1 ROM that can have the Samsung Applications running on them, but all the ones I seem to find are all 5.0.1. and the newer ones that have 5.1.1 in the title seem to appear to me as AOSP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Steve
p.s I think AOSP is the term I have been given why samsung apps don't work .. so am sorry if i have used the wrong terminology as well..
In overly-broad strokes, any ROM compiled and modified by someone other than the manufacturer of a phone or tablet is treated as an AOSP ROM. Cyanogenmod is arguably the biggest of the bunch, and many smaller teams use their source code to create ROMs. Any ROM using a manufacturer ROM as a base cannot be an AOSP ROM as manufacturers include proprietary components in their ROMs.
There is no Android 5.1.1 ROM built by someone other than the manufacturer that can run Samsung apps. Samsung has modified portions of Android to allow those apps to function, and the changes are not open source. Therefore, ROM developers building ROMs using Android source code cannot include the Samsung modifications. Your only chance of getting a Samsung app-capable version of Android 5.1.1 is to hope Samsung releases a 5.1.1 update for the S4, or else someone with both a S4 and a flagship Samsung phone from either this year or last year ports a ROM over to the S4.
Hi there,
I own a Galaxy J500FN and have been unsuccessfully searching the web for a custom rom for my device.
I have used PA on both my S4 and S4 mini and would be very glad (so would many others) if somebody could dedicate some time on working on a build for this device?
It currently ships Lollipop 5.1.1 out of the box.
There is no CWM Recovery build for this device but there is a TWRP Recovery Build that CTxz has kindly developed for us.
I am more than happy to flash experimental builds onto my device to help develop a custom ROM for it.
Thanks a lot!
Kyle
P.S: As many others have found, all root methods currently known for this device will trip the knox security.
No plans as we don't dev for devices we don't own or have access to. It is not on our radar at all, as with most Samsung devices.
@Pirateghost i can provide you all the files of j5 that you needs.

And what exactly does that do for us? That doesn't put a device in a developer's hand and they have ZERO way to test it. We know nothing about the device and we don't care to. It is not on the radar, it is not in the cards....
NO.
Not going to happen.
Please realize that developing for a device isn't easy. Even well documented ones bring along lots of hiccups along the way. There is no way in hell that we will take on a device request for a device that we don't own or plan on ever owning.
Here's a little FYI for you: we prefer Nexus devices or devices where the manufacturer/OEM is willing to allow/support bootloader unlocks, roms, development.
My advice to you: Learn how to bring up the device yourself, and build unofficials for yourself. This site was founded on being a resource BY developers FOR developers. Use the information available to you to build your own.
Is there any custom Roms for Samsung A7 2016 (SM-A710F). I have tried search custom rooms for my device but no luck?
I request to Room developers to please port some custom roms for this device i will be highly thank full to you guys. i am sick of using Samsung stock rom :crying::crying::crying:
Please do not ignore this post......
Me too, please create CM 13 for a710fd
Yes, please!
Anything but the boring Samwiz.
Let's keep this thread alive, so it may have some visibility.
i don't know why no developer make any ROM for this fantastic device yet. i have been using this device from the day it release and i am still in love with it........ Developers please do some thing i really need a change of ROM for my love(device)........
Agree absolutely! I have a lot of issues after uprading to Kitkat and then Mashmallow, with each upgrade introduced more serious issues rendering the dual SIM always on a useless feature. Really tired of Samsung ROM.
By custom roms, I assume you mean AOSP roms... Well, our samsung A7 & A5 2016 has exynos soc (except the A7100 & A5100, both has snapdragon I think). Exynos is somehow closed-source which means AOSP roms created for exynos devices are full of bugs because of missing source for the CPU. That is why less/no developers build AOSP roms for exynos devices.
In short,
exynos = closed source
closed source = no developer interest
no developer interest = no custom roms
sad
Rom Found
Finally i find a rom for A7 users :good::laugh::silly::victory::highfive:

Hi, devs
I'm grateful for the works put in place to make our s5 more functional and interesting. I use this medium to show my gratitude to your genius abilities and skill.
Well, the bone of contention is the lack of kernel support for g900h. The kltexx community have enormous kernel support and I'm jealous about that, though its fair to say k3gx is better. I'm still learning development and currently without a laptop so plz great dev, we need ur expertise on kernel development in k3gxx. Our ROM base is large both on touch whiz, AOSP, AOSPA and AOKP but very few kernel support.
Thank you in advance:good::good::good:
