@taranfx you can skip the vroot part in your guide, you can install XZDualRecovery on the unrooted .534 rom. Saves a step prior to updating

Thank you so much for the guide! I never rooted an Xperia before (4 years with samsung so all I know is Odin ), and this will help me a lot!

thats a problematic point NUT, i've tried that yestarday... flashed the recovery just fine, restarted into TWRP, then i restarted system and asked him to install supersu.
but when i was back into sony rom it sais i need to download supersu from the playstore, and since flashing .534 ruins the 3g reception i couldn't without wifi around...
luckly you don't actually need root to update to 4.4, you just need TWRP working so you can flash the flashable file.

Thanks will do this when I have time, tired of Google's stupid restrictions on the SD card

Adb?
Hi,
I have just looked at the instructions on http://geeknizer.com/root-upgrade-to-stock-4-4-2-kitkat-on-xperia-z1/
and noticed this - 4.Working Adb
What is this and how do I enable it? I am running Windows 8.1. Do I have to install anything?
I just tried running the bat file for the dual recovery (just to see what would happen - no phone connected) and got this -
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Any help will be appreciated!
Regards,
Alan

Hi gregbradley,
Thank-you. Sorry for the noob questions but I want to get this right! (I am currently on .681) so to get a rooted version of 681 I have to -
Flash .534
Root it using vroot or Rot360
Install SuperSU (from market)
Install DualRecovery
Install NUTs rooted .290 (or .136) (or can I go straight to .681?)
Install NUTs rooted .681
Is this correct?
Regards,
Alan

Root on Android 4.3 [Locked bootloader, but needs to be unlock-able]

Hello Everyone.
Yesterday, I updated my "Global" Z1 firmware to Android 4.3 and then {Of course} I had no root. I already had a TA backup from 4.2 (534) and already un/relocked the bootloader so I am not worried about warranty. So I tried something to get Full root on Locked bootloader.
What I basically did is that I unlocked the bootloader, turned on USB debugging, downloaded doomkernel (Made by @DooMLoRD) and then in fastboot I wrote the command:
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
Then it restarted and booted doomkernel once (fast boot filename.img makes the phone boot that kernel once) and then flashed the latest SuperSU zip using TWRP recovery (VOL Down) and then went to Advanced → Fix Permissions. Then tried mounting /system as R/W but with no success. So I then flashed doomkernel using the following fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
and then installed the latest XZDualRecovery by @[NUT] and then I had 4 recoveries So I flashed stock kernel and XZDualRecovery wasn't uninstalled, So what I did is that I flashed the SuperSU zip again (using TWRP) and then booted up.
In the first boot, I couldn't mount /system as R/W but I restarted for some reason. and tried to mount as R/W and it worked!
So I relocked my bootloader (by restoring the TA) and now I have full root on TOTALLY STOCK 4.3 Locked bootloader :victory:
Now, when I go to /system/etc/init.d I find a file named "99SuperSUDaemon" and I remember reading somewhere that init.d has something to do with what should work on boot (other than system booting things, cuz I only see that file). So maybe that fixed the "Partial root" problem. Don't know where it came from, but it works :highfive:
Just thought that it might be good to share some info with others, might be useful for people who doesn't want to use ftf's of other places like someone in MEA (me) doesn't want to use UK or US or any other ftf cuz of more bloatware.
Regards,
~J2C
May I ask you how you can verified if you have a Full Root or Semi Root?
Well, I have been removing system apps and I can mount /system as R/W.
If there's a way I can check, please tell me how.
Edit: I actually don't know what does "Semi Root" mean.
Regards,
~J2C

Yes, I have full root.
In case if you're on 4.2 and you can OTA to 4.3 (and you have root) try to copy the file 99SuperSUDaemon to /system/etc/init.d and then reboot, uninstall dual recovery, update to 4.3 OTA and check if you have full root. If you DO have full root, then you can install XZDualRecovery again and enjoy android.
Edit: uploaded the file, unzip (NOTE: it's NOT a flashable zip!) and copy it to /system/etc/init.d and give it permissions rwsr-xr-x

I can go to cwm and create a flashable zip from there and give it to you if you want
@eclyptos
I know you didn't ask for a 4.3 flashable zip but here it is:
Update.zip
I don't know if something needs to be removed from the zip, but all I did is that I wen to cwm and clicked on "Clone ROM to update.zip" and then uploaded it to google drive.

Root for locked bootloader but need to be unlock-able?!
If the BL is unlockable then it is useless to say it is for locked bootloader, if it's lock it's lock.
Once it is unlocked user can flash a pre rooted rom or kernel...

Hey guys, it does work! With some tweaking. Its maybe like a 4 click method. I used the z1c method. Uninstall the APK from your phone and follow the directions on this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53459243
Take the APK file that is not installed and move it over to your pc. The file you extract will have a folder called files, put the TR.APK file there. Make sure towelroot is not installed on your phone before you do this.
Now all you have to do is run the install.bat file and follow directions. Do not press your keyboard till your phone screen is black and you seen the sony logo.
It does work, and I'm so happy!

As indicated in the original Towelroot thread, the SuperSU from Play Store hasn't been updated yet and may not work well with Towelroot. You need the latest version from ChainFire's website http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
ok so just to clarify
you need to install the apk using PC connected to phone using adb - is that correct

[STOCK][D58XX][5.X] Installing ROOT tutorial

Hi friends!
I've got absolutely no expirience on how to write tutorials on XDA and i'm from Denmark, so if it's way off on regards to spelling and guidelines, you now know why.
The goal of this tutorial is to guide you through the process of gaining root access with Recovery on your Xperia Z3 Compact running Android Lollipop 5+.
WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU ARE ON A LOCKED BOOTLOADER!
Lets start
Download AndroPlusKernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t2937173
Download XZDualRecovery Kernel from here: http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Copy XZDualRecovery Kernel to your Xperia phone
Open AndroPlusKernel.zip, extract the boot.img and flash it using flashboot with the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Turn on your phone, pressing the volume up to start the recovery.
Flash the ZDualRecovery Kernel
Reboot and open SuperSU so finalize the root access.
Enjoy!
PEAS!!!
This method will not delete any data on your phone.
- Simon

Apparently this recovery is not yet compatible with lollipop. Besides there's no recovery in my setup to flash any flashable.
But this procedure is for LolliPop 5.0 ? I know that Custom Recovery of NUT is not compatible with it !?!
So your procedure for lock bootloader will be:
Download AndroPlusKernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...ernel-t2937173...link is wrong: is http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t2937173 and the kernel is Z3C_AndroPlusKernel_v31.zip ..BUT this kernel want Unlocked bootloader ??
Download XZDualRecovery Kernel from here: http://nut.xperia-files.com/ : T2U-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.flashable.zip
Reboot and open SuperSU so finalize the root access.
...so is not clear all ?!?
Hispanico
If i download
http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Z3C-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip
And start the process for 5.0.2 in locked bootloader will work? Is this recovery working?
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
XZDR isn't working for LP yet, regardless of bootloader status. OP can you please provide proof that you have working recovery in LP, because it seems you're the only user with this
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
I'm sorry for the misleading title, my method will not install any recovery on your phone - but only root access. Sorry for the mistake.
But for now root access is cool as it enables me to use airstream, vpn and other features that weren't available before.
When a working recovery is released the steps can be used again (flashing androplus) followed by flashing wathever you want to flash from within the recovery. Just remember to flash a compatible lollipop kernel in order for boot to work afterwards.

Hi Hispanico. I just got a z3c with Lollipop installed. Its basically a stock z3c that receieved the lollipop upgrade. If I follow your steps stated here, will I be able to gain root on 5.0.2? I just want to double check on it, because I don't want to end with a brick. Your steps are clear, but I have not found anyone else saying that they did it with success (or not)...
Thanks!

@Taurintas
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration". If there is:
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked
@ukunilus
Did it and it says bootloader unlock allowed - no. What does it mean ? It means that I cannot do these steps ?

It means your bootloader is locked and can't be unlocked in any way.
So yes, you cannot do those steps...

What I actually did was install this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/d5833-23-1-0-690r9c-t3071901) directly over my rooted z3c D5833 with 4.4.4 and presto! i did a dirty install over my existing rom/apps and have had no issues whatsoever!
Thanks!
Carlos

[STOCK][D6503][5.1.1]Pre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200

Hey guys, I've made the pre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200 zip.
NEWS
I've made a zip to flash the entire update, no need to flash ftf after you flash the zip anymore, but I haven't tested it. You can download the zip here.
Instructions1. Copy the zip to the internal/external SD card of your phone.
2. Boot your phone into recovery (TWRP recommended).
3. Install the zip in recovery. After you have flashed it, DON'T FORGET TO WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE.
4. Turn off your phone.
5. Using flashtool, flash the 23.4.A.1.200 firmware, but EXCLUDE PARTITION, TA, SYSTEM. Also, make sure you don't flash simlock.ta(I don't have it, but I think it's included in TA). If you are using the FTF I've posted, you won't have to disable TA and simlock.ta, because I've removed them.
DownloadsPre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200 zip
23.4.A.1.200 FTF
23.4.A.1.200 FTF (without SYSTEM and PARTITION)
Pre-rooted 23.4.A.1.200 zip including kernel, no need for FTF flash
Details about zip/FTFOperator: Customized MEA
Version number: 23.4.A.1.200
CDA: 1281-2115
The zip contains SuperSU v2.46 and Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.flashable.zip
Thanks for the upload! Can you just dirty flash over an already rooted .546 with twrp?
Thanks Man

What do you mean by dirty flash? If you mean by simply following the instructions from the first post, then yes, you can, that's what I did
Why do you need the flashtool after flashing the zip in TWRP? I thought it's either or ... but not both!?

Very valid question, I also find no reason to use flashtool after flashing the prerooted zip
After flashing this i try to use ES File Explorer to edit System and I get message saying Sorry test failed and the System is only mounted as Read Only.
I had the same when I made my own roited version of 23.4.A.1.200 using PRFCreate a few days ago. Hoped it wouldn't be there on this one but its the same. Is it just me or an I missing something? No problem on 23.4.A.0.546

Because I have not included the kernel and the other things in the archive, sorry for that. I will make another .ftf file without system partition, so it would be smaller. Also, as far as I know, you can't flash kernel from recovery with a locked bootloader(sorry if I am wrong).

1. Downgrade to 4.4.2, root it, install recovery and follow the instructions in the first post
OR
2. Downgrade to 5.0, root using this method(I never tested it, and someone said that the app sends your IMEI code to a chinese database) and assuming you have recovery, follow the instructions in the first post.
The first method would probably force you to wipe your data(I am not sure about this, but having 5.1 data on a 4.4.2 firmware doesn't sound good/stable. If you can handle the force stops, good job then). Not very sure about the second method.

So you're saying you're not rooted? Do you still have recovery? If yes, then download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and flash it(yet it is strange, because it's included in my zip).

This Firmware what region?

[Stock][PreRooted][D5503] 14.6.A.1.236 Customized CE1 1280-7864 (Lolipop 5.1.1)

ROM downloaded with XperiFirm and pre-rooted with PRFCreator.
Firmware version: 14.6.A.1.236
CDA (customization version): 1280-7864 (Customized CE1)
It contains SuperSU 2.46 andXZDualRecovery 2.8.23 (it will overwrite your current recovery).
You need to be on any rooted ROM already with TWRP custom recovery to flash a .zip file with this firmware!
You don't loose any data (but make your backup before upgrading), you keep root, you update your firmware to the newest Lolipop 5.1.1 build .1.236
IMPORTANT: Flash the ROM with TWRP, not Phillz Touch Recovery.
It can be flashed on locked bootloader.
Download link: Mega
Notes:
Do a factory reset if you're experiencing any strange problems.
Super! Thanks! I waited for it! Can you do deodex patch for this rom?
Thanks for that! BTW, will this overwrite my current TA partition? I've got DRM restoring patch and I have to keep old TA partition. thanks for response
I'm not sure about TA, sorry. My bet would be it does not overwrite TA.

Did you flash with Philz Touch Recovery? Then this was the culprit.
I did this two times and lost root and recovery as you
The recommended recovery to use is TRWP.

Nope, everything works fine I've already installed Camera v2, Xposed, SerajrXposed, home from z5 premium and Sonico Audio mod, haven't encountered any problem so far.
What's changed compared with 216?

what firmware you had before flash? I flashed that over 14.5.A.0.270. is that problem?
@xdomx
Yeah, it might be the problem. I had .216 before.
There is such info on XZDR page:
When installing custom STOCK BASED ROMs:
Be sure to flash XZ/ZL/TabZ/Z1/ZU-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-BETA.flashable.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com after installing the ROM and before you reboot, this way you will not lose recovery!
Maybe this step is needed now (it wasn't before). So after flashing ROM zip, flash XZDualRecovery zip and SuperSU zip.
If someone confirms this, please let me know.
Do I have to remove xposed before flashing it? If yes, how can I do it?
No, but you need to update it if you're on old version that doesn't support Android 5.1
