Hi All,
I am using the latest nightly on galaxy note N7000. My problem is related to .apk files. I have couple of .apk's in my sd card which i cannot install. As soon as i touch it to open for installantion, it gives me an error file cannot open. Please Help!!
First bit of "help" is that if you don't fully and completely describe your question, it isn't answerable.
Which APKs? How are you trying to install them? What do the logs ("logcat") tell you? Have you successfully installed them on other ROMs? Which ROMs? Which versions of APKs and ROMs? Are you using stock kernels? Have you tried it on a clean install of the ROM?
the built in downloads is apart of the documents app. it wont install apk files. u need to download a file manager from the app store to do so.

Anyone else using this ROM? I love it but have a couple issues. For some reason i can not edit system files. I wanted to delete gmail.apk and install TBO's version but it is locked. I tried 4 different file managers.

If file manager isn't asking for root, I'd try another file manager (like root file manager from the app store). Try force closing the application prior to removing it. Or you could always try Titanium Backup which has a un-install feature for almost all applications:

thanks i got it to work after purchasing this

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there were any AOSP Roms out there with built-in File Managers? It sucks having to go to Google Play to download one, just to install the rest of my programs.
Thanks in advance.

Off the top of my head, slim includes one.
Alternatively, You can also just use titanium to create a flashable zip of your necessary apps (requires pro version I believe)
Alternatively to that, using 7zip on pc , you can also just drag and drop whatever apk you want into the system folder of whatever gapps package you flash when you flash roms. Or you can drag and drop the apk into system or data folder of whatever rom.zip you want to flash, If you have a computer handy regularly. (I find gapps easier because I download gapps packages WAY less often.)

i'd rather just choose the rom i like then worry about some file manager.
it takes about a minute to go to play store and install es file explorer and then install titanium to recover your apps.
i agree it would be handy if every rom had a file explorer but downloading doesn't take much time.

Lol just wanted to say that but you beat me to it.
Edit: Still, I always download ES file and delete the one in the rom.
I accidently deleted google play store app using titanium backup. I tried installing the apk but that didnt work. It kept saying "Unfortunately Google play store has stopped working". Ive tried almost every google play apk and it does the same thing. Can somebody please backup there google play store app using titanium backup and send me a backup of there google play app. It should be located in /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup. Unless theres another way to install it again. Thanks.

You will need a file manager with root permissions, move the apk to /system/app give it the proper permissions, should be read write and execute.

I just got tired of messing with it. Restored my phone back to stock using Odin. Thanks everyone for there help.:good:
Ever since I upgrade to 6.0 I can't seem to install any of my old apk's. I have the security setting checked for it but nothing seems to work. Is it due to them simply just not being compatible or what?
What happens when you try to install them? What method are you using to install them? What apps?

Just simply through the stock method. With the built in file explorer into the settings. Do I need to get a file explorer app and install it that way. It simply says cannot open file. I gotta say I'm kind of a nub when it comes to stock android. I've always had skins over it.
*Edit* *Solved*
I didn't realize you had to install a file manager to install apk files. Sorry for the nubiness.
