So i tried all of the IR blaster apps that worked with my s4 and htc one, but NONE of them even made the ir blaster blink (as seen through a camera pointed at the blaster) am i looking at a broken blaster or is there an app out there that can help me?

Have you given the one that comes preinstalled on the LG G2 a go?
I might have uninstalled it way back when I got the phone and rooted it

I'd give it a go because if the stock app that comes with the LG G2 doesn't work and no other apps worked then for sure you'd probably have defective IR sensor
Where would I get it, I can't find the original app any store

OOVOO is a very popular video chatting service. The only problem is that on android, they don't keep the app's device check updated with the latest phones. I just bought a Sensation 4g and it isn't compatible. At the same time, it will say the same thing on my Mytouch 4g when I switch to certain roms other than stock. The Mytouch 4g is a supported phone by the way. This is why I believe that if someone can remove the device check, it will work on a lot more phones. Is someone able to do this?
Download the app outside of the Market, it'll work.
Can anyone post the apk of oovoo without device check I can't find it all

Are you on Gingerbread?
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the IR blaster to work on a AOSP ROM'S. Has anyone tested Peel Smart Remote on one, or possibly managed to get a WatchOn apk and get that working on AOSP? Having the IR blaster is the only thing keeping me on TouchWiz at the moment since my TV remote's power button is fried, but I would really like to get TouchWiz off.
Download smart remote from the play store. It works very well.

The $10 one that specifies gs4? And that is confirmed to work on AOSP ROMS?
I don't think it will work. Asop roms delete pretty much ALL added features to the phone. Someone would have to get the apps from TW and see if they work on it. I'm not sure which system app you would need. If I knew which system apps I needed I would test it for you. I have the smart remote for g s4 app

Im gonna try some roms out today. I'll let u know what I find with the ir stuff. I had the s3 and the ir is the main reason I upgraded. That and the battery.

@kyhassen: Yeah, that's just about what I thought. I'm sure if someone dug through TW enough that whatever code is needed for it to work would be found. Could even be something as simple as a call method to find the hardware that gets passed along to whatever app the user is using, which could then be ported into an AOSP to keep that working..
@Mahapederdon: Thanks, please do keep me in the loop if you find something

Yeah keep us up to date on what you find!
The IR code is proprietary. Meaning it is unlikely the needed code will be released any time soon. Its possible someone may reverse engineer the drivers one day, or the code will "open" so all hope is not lost.
Try to back up the apk from stock through Titanium backup and restore it on your favorite aosp rom and see if it works.

Has anyone tried that?
I just did on slim bean it installs and opens but it won't work as a remote I think aosp doesn't have the s4's or drivers.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
Ok, so then it looks like someone needs to either reverse engineer the drivers, or talk Samsung into releasing them.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
And I just asked Samsung about that, and they basically said no. Anyone know anyone who may be able to reverse engineer it?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
So I'm guessing that smart remote won't work.
GS4 on Slim bean and CarbonROM
Hardware support is missing at the kernel level, .apks won't fix it.
It seems to be fully functional on the Google Experience S4 and also CyanogenMod nightlies according to users and reviewers.

Yea, I can confirm it works on the Google Experience S4 rom running on my SPH-L720, tried it out just recently using the WatchON app.
Same here then I tried it on CM 10.1 latest nightly and it didn't work on that but it worked on the Google edition rom.

Being that I came from both the S4 and One, I've found myself completely clueless with this phone as to what's on tv and which channels. Both of those phones had apps that controlled the IR blaster and included a tv guide-like app. Do we not have anything like that? I've been looking and just find the remote app.

Damn. I was afraid of that. It amazes me that they did not include something similar to compete with them. I'd like to get more attention drawn so we can find an app, have one made, or make our voices heard by LG.

Sadly it doesn't... But at least it has the guide and I can touch the show I want to watch and it takes me right to it.
they put no effort into the blaster. it's angle is absolutely awful and the htc one and gs4 kill it. if you're one inch off from the direction of the IR in the device, it won't work. it's absolutely terrible... so it doesn't surprise me the software sucks.

You really do have to aim it with precision for it to work well. Stupid thing.

I definitely noticed the same thing. I can't seem to figure out what or why it is that way. The One had the best IR blaster in my opinion. I enjoyed it's bundled app more than the S4's too.
I can find nothing on the ir blaster. I am using the Samsung Verizon Note 3. This is supposed to be a feature of the phone. Did Version block it out am I just not finding it?

Look for an app, perhaps in the Samsung folder called WatchON?
Yes, WatchOn is the stock app for using the IR Blaster. After setup it will let you control your devices with a remote icon in the top right corner of the screen.
If you look up top your phone and see a little black dot in the right side you have the ir blaster but I wouldn't recommend the watch on app, look up for the Smart IT Remote Samsung/HTC app on the play store it's just worth it, i have configured more than ten controls and controls like my DISH one aren't supported by the watch on app
Sent from my SM-N900 using xda app-developers app
Great advice, Thank you.
I couldn't find it because I disabled watch on when I first got my phone because I didn't know what it was. Next time I won't be so stupid.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
Yea, you need to use WatchON or a different app.
I ditched WatchON, as it kept running even if I didnt use it. (also, the puns were starting to become too irritating.)
Plus it only works for tv, and the media guide only works in the US. Where at least 750 million of us are not.
Swapped it for this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy
This controls everything with an IR reciever, even my DSLR and the lights.

Stock Quick Remote app has limited device suport and no learning like an app from LG g2.... Any way to use QRemote from g2 or other application with support of G Pad IR Blaster? Thnx in advance!
Sent from my LG-V500 using xda app-developers app
Me too! Would love to see the G2's quick remote app ported over for the GPad :\
Someone please!
I spent hours looking for an app that will control my set top box.
Found nothing.
Why did LG give us such a lame app when the G2 has a wonderful one?
Is there a possibility that we can find the aformentioned .apk and install it (even though something tells me that it will not be such an easy task).

I believe the GPad only has an IR Blaster, not a receiver as well. Because of this the device is not capable of learning.
For me the only added value the G2 app will give is for the extra devices, as I have a couple of LG A/Cs in my living room.
Would love to see if we can do this. Picked up this beast yesterday and the remote app was my only complaint. Having a g2 makes it better, but would be awesome to have the same app on both

It sounds like a hardware limitation on the g pad. Maybe if you guys wrote LG about it they could add it tto the next g pad. I only have a Samsung phone so I have not played with the g2.
