[Q] Samsung Keyboard Issues - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm on the LTE Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 with KitKat 4.4.2 preinstalled. Anyone with the same issues below able to provide any advice? I came from an SGS II with an AOKP-based ROM and Samsung's new phone is driving me nuts. Trying not to root/custom ROM it until after my warranty has expired as my local service centres can be pretty anal.
1) I had added both English (UK) and English (US) as language packs, but now realised that English (UK) keeps getting set as the default, and some of the often used punctuation on the UK keyboard doesn't match what I usually use (and screws up my input when I'm using a US-styled keyboard.) I've removed the English (UK) input language in the keyboard's settings, but it still shows up (and sets as default) whenever I'm using the keyboard. The 'reset' features in the settings resets everything EXCEPT the downloaded input language files. How can I remove this language? Or perhaps at least set English (US) as the default? (similar to my system locale settings)
UPDATE to (1): Apparently the "Reset" does work, somewhat... I still can't remove the extra languages downloaded, but resetting does set my default back to English (US). Oddly under the downloaded languages list if you press option there is a "Delete" button, but it's disabled for all languages.
UPDATE 2 to (2): Ugh. For some odd reason, this morning "English (UK)" decided to return without it being selected in the list (I didn't even reboot or anything this time!), and this time no amount of resetting works. I even tried clearing the app cache and data from application manager to no avail. Seriously contemplating a factory reset since the setting gets in the way *everytime* I enter a new text field to type. What the hell is wrong with Samsung and their software?!
2) I also tried using other keyboards, however Samsung Keyboard (and "English (UK)") keeps getting set as the default upon every reboot. Any advice?
Preferably I would like to continue keeping Samsung Keyboard as an option (due to some of its features on Note 3), but the constant reset to English (UK) when it is unwanted is driving me crazy.
Thanks.

Is your main system language set to US or UK?

Original I set it up as English (UK) so I thought that was the problem. After that I actually did a full factory restore, selected English (US) but the problem came back again.

I have a problem on my Note 3 N9005 regarding the "Samsung keyboard has stopped". It started when I flash yesterday the Luxembourg NC2 firmware. I came from Poland NB3 firmware. The installation failed so I tried it again and again. My phone doesn't reboot it just show that I need to fix it through Samsung Kies but the status is still custom since it failed the installation. It's always failed so I decided to flash CWM and perform wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache and it reeboted. When it rebooted, the Samsung keyboard is unable to use even i perform another factory reset. As of now I'm using a different keyboard. Can anyone suggest me what can I do to be able to use the samsung keyboard? I like it better than any third party keyboard. Thanks in advance

Device working problem after restoring default settings

Hello.
gt-9301i, BDITA ROM
I ask you for help, because recently I restored default settings, and now my phone doesn't work properly. I downloaded BDITA ROM 4.4.4 and some kernel from this forum like 1 year ago. I tried it again but installing again ROM makes nothing more than making the same problem which I had after restoring settings that means: when my phone starts it's going good until the "welcome" pops out with different languages to choose and when i want to choose for example english it tells me that setup wizard stopped or "Unfortunately, Pico TTS has stopped." and then black screen comes and the only visible thing is the up menu where I can see the 3g connection and battery status, also I can click on data&time and then I can login to google account and see the calendar, but I cannot do anything more. So I ask for solutions, I have time, but I would like to try install stock kernel and stock ROM, but I cannot find these things.
Go to sammobile and download stock firmware from there and flash it through odin.

Google Keyboard (Gboard) Disappears

I'm not sure what happened, but my Google Keyboard seems to have disappeared. Google Keyboard is not showing as an option under "Keyboard & input methods". I have Flesky and Swiftkey, so I'm getting by, but I don't know how to get it working. Gboard shows under Apps, and I've tried clearing cache, clearing data, force stop, and uninstall/reinstall, but it still doesn't appear as an option to use as a keyboard. How can I rectify this? Thanks in advance to anyone who has a solution.

Google keyboard is replaced by Gboard but I think you already knew that. Also if you are on a custom ROM flash Gapps again. Gboard will appear on input options. If not maybe you have factory reset or wait for the app to be updated again .
PS did you reboot after clearing cache?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not rooted and therefore don't have a custom ROM, just the one that came with the device, so therefore I can't really flash anything. I went into recovery mode and did a cache wipe there, which, of course, requires reboot, to no avail. I'll wait to see if an update comes out soon and will live with 3rd party keyboards in the meantime. For what it's worth, I've included screen shots showing that Gboard is showing as an app but is not showing as an available keyboard. When I click "Current Keyboard", my only options are Flesky and Swiftkey.
The reply is appreciated.

Sorry to hear. If you do manage to get it fixed please reply to this thread. Thanks. I am on 7.0 and Gboard is running fine.

Update: I finally got Gboard back. I tried a number of things, including a manual download and install of the apk. I decided to try Slash keyboard, and, when I installed it, I was taken to the screen to enable it, and, voila', Gboard shows up with an enable option. I don't know what happened, but it's working now.

Actually, in your second screenshot, if you tap on "Current Keyboard" there will be a button to choose keyboard. If you press that, it will bring you to the screen where you can enable/disable keyboards. That's probably why Gboard was hidden.

Yep. Not intuitive to me, but you're correct. I thought "Current Keyboard" was just a prompt to select one from the pop-up window. Often the answers are simple if you know where to look. Thanks! :good:

No worries! They changed the menu structure in Nougat so it's more intuitive now.
Probably off topic but does anyone else not like the update they did to the keyboard? No way to remove that search menu row? I have never used the suggestions and wished I could remove it.

Go to input > virtual > Gboard > settings > search and disable it.
It removes the search G but still keeps the row there. See attachment.

Yeah that's true. I can't find an option to disable that. Maybe it's not possible in this update.
I am sort of in the same boat
Hey everyone.
Lastnight I installed, an android 7.0 custom rom to my tab pro 10.1. I used TWRP to flash install the ROM when it installed it automatically rebooted my device before I could go on to Gapps and install them with the the ROM. So when the ROM loaded up I connected to my hub (using the keyboards) then had a look at the new OS and the wife had a look out of interest with me and everything was working well in fact it was quicker than it was when we got it brand new.
Then playtime over rebooted back into TWRP and flashed Gapps. Then it rebooted again. When it finally loaded back in I was met with a loading screen saying Android is Starting which wouldn't go away but it asked me to sign back on to the Hub so went to do this on problem was.....no Keyboard.....so I managed to get into my setting through quick menu settings and find input settings and there is no keyboard installed to the device...it asked me to add one but I can't because I can't type and even if I could the android is starting message is still going.
Please help I am new to this and I want to learn all this type of thing but I am completely puzzled on what to do. I tried clear chase and data and even tried factory reset.....tried installing gapps on twice (before the factory reset) and nothing was working.
I am tough to use odin to flash it back to standard rom and start again but I could do with some pointers with what i have done wrong.
Thanks people

You may wish to ask over in the Galaxy Tab Pro forums at https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-pro-12-10-8 - you've somehow wandered into the Moto G4 forums
But as a very general suggestion - sounds like your GApps isn't happy with your custom ROM. You may have to clean flash your custom ROM again and verify that the GApps you're flashing is suitable for your device/custom ROM.
I agree with you I have just download the same rom and a stock gapps and I had the same message and again with no keyboard.....agian. Difference this time I haven't rushed to do a factory reset and gone back and reflashed the android 7.0 rom and I am back working again with keyboard but no google apps.
Is there a way of installing them a different way, only 2 google apps I use is play store and gmail. I have tried installing a google play store and play services apk but doesn't work. It goes to load and then just stops.....feels like I need a list of apps to get them going.
Hope someone can help
I worked out my problem with Gapps, "android is starting messages" and no keyboard.
1. I needed to wipe my cache, data and davarlik (whatever it says....looks like darlik to me...lol) before and after.
2. Like fella before said my ROM didn't like the Gapps package I had downloaded, so everytime I had the android message I went back on to TWRP and restored back to the orginal point where the lineage ROM worked, then went back on to the net and installed the next Gapps package and repeated till I found a package that worked......that package was the "Micro" package.
Any google apps I was missing I simply just downloaded them via the playstore after.
I realise this is a moto G forum but I find that sometimes you need to go other places to find answers and I had originally looked in the samsung Tab Pro 10.1 forum section and couldn't find anything similar to my problem this fella at the beginning of the thread was the closest to my problem I could fine.
Hope this helps

Language disappeared from the language menu

A really strange thing happened few weeks ago and I haven’t found a solution for this problem.
App menu on my Axon 7 (7.1.1 / A2017G) started to crash when scrolled down to the letter ‘S’. I thought that maybe it has something to do with the phones language being Finnish. I changed it to English but it didn’t resolve the app menu crashing. What’s really strange is that the Finnish language disappeared from the language menu and I can’t change it back.
I tried to wipe the cache partition and eventually even did a full factory reset but Finnish language is still missing from the menu. Have you ever encountered something similar or have any tips how on could resolve this?

Help! Cant download or install any new languages for samsung keyboard.

So, everything started when I accidently tapped on clear data on "samsung keyboard" package using bk package disabler, and now when I enter the "manage input languages" tab in the samsung keyboards settings, in the "available languages" sub tab is all blank and doesnt give me an option on installing a new language for the keyboard, which is a problem since I actually use the spanish one.
I have tried everything that I could think of, which includes:
Clearing cache and storage data on both the samsung keyboard and samsung neuronal keyboard.
Reset all settings
Wiping out cache
Reset network settings
Factory reset
All with no avail.
Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Not at all screwed, you could just install a different keyboard from the play store
