Galaxy express i437 easiest root & cwm method 4.4.2 - Samsung Galaxy Express SGH-I437 Questions & Answer

this works for i437 ONLY and no other variants that i know of. only tested on i437 follow at your own risk
1st download files needed from links below
add the custom rom and g apps to sd card and insert in phone
download and install 1 click root
enable usb debugging and unknown sources on phone
connect phone to pc with usb cable
open 1 click root and root phone it takes about 2-3 minutes max super easy to do
open superuser it should auto update go ahead and grant permissions if it ask for it
go to settings and change backlight timer from 30seconds to atleast 3 minutes it took me a few tries to figure that out ill explain why
next from Playstore install the app "root checker" to verify root
once root is verified download from playstore "ROM MANAGER"
open ROM MANAGER and choose install recovery cwm, dont touch phone during the process
the reason for changin backlight timer is because on 30secs the install of cwm does not go through when the screen shuts off the download is interupted, also if you touch the screen while downloading cwm it will interupt download aswell so make sure to adjust time and do not interupt process
once cwm is installed i should say you have latest version 6.0.4.6
reboot into recovery
wipe cache, factory reset, and wipe dalvik
install from sd the rom and g apps
wipe cache, factory reset, and wipe dalvik
reboot phone and wait 3-5 minutes and there you go super easy
so far so good i've been using this rom for 2 weeks and no major issues what so ever
PROS
runs smooth, no lag, better battery life than original i feel,
CONS
only major complaint is the camera doesnt focus as fast it'll take me a few shots of same image to get a good pic but no real bother pics still look good
if this helps be sure to thank i'm trying to move upto developer
4.4.2 kit kat rom & google apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536378
one click root for almost all android devices i've used this from htc, samsung, motorolas, lg

How I painlessly updated to 2.2

Ok I am posting this in case it is of any help to anyone. I have friends and family that have the SGS and decided to write them a few instructions on how to update their phone. I have updated 16 phones myself so far and found this to be the best method. Each phone has worked perfectly after with none of the problems I am seeing being reported on this forum. Hope it works for you too.
Backup apps and data with My Backup (free) or My Backup Pro. Pro version backs up application data which is very useful.
If you have installed OCLF then open OCLF and Undo OCLF, Undo Root and Remove Ext2 Tools.
On phone go to Settings, Privacy, Factory Reset.
When phone reboots type in *2757*3855#
When the phone restarts update phone to latest firmware using Kies.
After updating again run Settings, Privacy, Factory Reset.
When phone reboots type in *2757*3855#. This seems to either use a slightly different format or wipe files not wiped previously. I really don't know but either way phones I have tested this method on have had less lag.
Turn on USB Debugging by going to Settings, Applications, Development, USB Debugging.
Change Settings, Wireless and Network, USB settings to Ask On Connection
Connect phone to pc via usb. Do not enable any mode.
On PC run SuperOneClick found here, h t t p ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682. This does not take long. Superuser will install last and should be followed by Done. This does not always happen so if you see superuser being installed for more then 10 seconds you can safely close SuperOneClick.exe. It will have installed but you have not received the final Done message.
Reboot phone and it’s now rooted.
In Market install OCLF and My Backup/My Backup Pro.
Run OCLF and install Ext2 followed by OCLF V2+.
Reboot phone.
Run OCLF, Alter minfree. Click Strict and set on boot then Fire it up.
Run Change Scheduler choosing Deadline, set on boot and tweaks then Fire It Up.
At the moment it seems if you reboot the phone you must make the last two changes again as the set on boot does not always work.
Run My Backup/My Backup Pro and restore all applications.
When finished run again this time restoring Data.
Reboot phone.
Now you may be left with one small problem. Market Download does not always show all your apps installed. Tends to be missing the free ones you have installed.
Run Settings, Application, Manage Applications, All
You will see Market and Market Updater. Go into each and click Force Close then Clear Data.
Now when you go back in to Market, Downloads you should see all your apps installed that are available in the Market.
If you have any apps installed from Samsung Apps you will need to reinstall them again. The reason being is even though you restored them the samsung app does not know you have done that and you won’t be notified of updates in the future.
All these steps doesn't look painless. I just flashed mine with Odin without the need to do anything else. After the update everything worked just fine.

Hi.
This procedure doesn't work for me, because of the Kies problem. I have yet to work around it.
However, I just want to point a slight mistake.
That code you entered doesn't work. It should be *2767*3855# . That's the Factory Reset without confirmation.
Thanks for the post.
In my opinion the most painless method of updating to 2.2 is by using Kies with registry hack tool made by Nodial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628&highlight=Kies+registry . Then apply the CWM if you want root and you are ready to go
why bother with this complicated stuff if the official update from Kies will be available for every country by the end of the month?

Yes, there seems to be a root method for the SGH-T999N that I may have discovered. I synced/backed up on Google sync, when I was running on 4.1.2.
I Unintentionally updated to 4.3 not realizing root would be more difficult. I DID NOT use odin, just cause of the bricking hype. I did do some stuff with sideload, I think.
When flashing I used a 16gig micro SD card & also copied some extracted zip rom files via windows, straight to the phone.
Kept getting the error (in red) when checking for signature or something.(Ex. e: whole-file signature failed <se3>).
In the phone OS, I manually cleared cache, data, notifications, turned off & forced stop on several of the "update" & other potentially restricting security apps on the phone.
Booted into recovery via power + home + volume ? keys.
Wiped cache
Wiped all data
"Upgraded ish" from external SD card.
Reset my phone & still got a signature fail.
Did the wipe & factory default again (after another reboot)
Flashed the same file again (I think) was CWM, Cyanogen or something. d2tmo, d2mtr seem to work.
Did a Factory reset & phone went to metro logo. Did a 2nd recovery reset before 1st one could finish & the phone seemed to go to an out-of-box state/first time setup. That's where I was able to enable superuser root, the box thing & backup?
Sorry I don't remember more detail at the moment. The Google Chrome backup seemed to help a lot for reinstalling rooted apps after 4.3 update w/ factory reset.

You say you think.....doesn't sound reassuring can you elaborate a bit more? I don't seem to understand what you are getting at if it works or not? I don't know if I should root my phone now or wait for 4.4.......
Have you heard of/tried the Morobo + Shuame method? Worked a treat for my HTC Wildfire, Motorola Defy, and my HP Slate 7.
Seriously worth a shot if you ask me. A link to the XDA thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092349
Know this is old, but if you're still looking for a method, I successfully rooted my T999N yesterday using ChainFire's autoroot for the t-mobile variant (the T999). I'm new so I can't post a link here, but if you google "chainfire autoroot", it'll direct you to his page where you can download the package from the list of supported devices. The package conveniently contains a version of Odin3 that you will use to flash his stuff to your phone.
Remember, the phone must be in samsung's "download mode" to receive the flash. You get this model into the mode by powering it off, then holding the HOME button, the POWER button, and the VOLUME DOWN button all at once. When the warning message comes up, you push VOLUME UP to continue, then the phone will be in download mode. You can then connect the phone to your computer and if you have the drivers installed correctly, Odin will recognize the phone and be able to send the flash. You will then need to go about disabling Samsung's security software, KNOX, before the phone will be fully rooted. There are plenty of guides on how to do that so no worries there.

CDMA Dual SIM China Telecom S4 (no root) or iPhone 5S?

Hello
I'm an expat leaving in Shanghai and my company asks me to choose between a China Telecom SCH-i959 GS4 and a 16G iPhone 5S (CDMA as well).
I've been very happy with Android for almost 5 years (HTC Hero then Xperia S) and I'm not a fan of Apple's environment, so normally the decision should be very easy to make. But there is a very serious problem with this GS4: it has no Google apps (Play, Gmail, Contacts sync, maps, etc...).
I searched everywhere (here, Google,...) and I couldn't find any clear confirmation that the GAPPS can be installed on this device. What's more, since the phone will belong to the company, they strictly forbid to root it.
I could live without root; and I believe I could live without the GAPPS... But what I can't live without is Google Maps. I know there are some alternatives that work decently, but I didn't find one that works well in China yet.
The iPhone's system, on the other hand, is not different from other international versions, and Google Maps can be installed (it often struggles to connect, but that's another issue). But I hate the lack of files management, the small screen, the locked default browser, the stupid "desktop", the small capacity, the absence of swype keyboard, unlock pattern, SD slot...AND ITUNES.
So I am having this serious dilemna now, any opinion ?
PS: I have to decide before Monday morning or they will choose the iPhone for me. FYI they made it the default choice, whereas the Samsung is labeled "non-standard device for employees who absolutely need dual-sim"... "Low-level" employees are not even allowed to choose it, they get a 5C.
You could always just install Google play apk (search Google) then install any apps you need & you wouldn't have to root ?
Thank you but no, that wouldn't work. Chinese versions of Android phones just do not allow Play to run. If you install and try to open the app, it will crash immediately.
For Maps however, I'm not entirely sure (can it run without any Google service in the system?)...
surprised to see this is such old post and still remains unsolved, i have the same problem now and desperately looking for a solution..
SCH-I959 GAAPS installation file
After struggling for 2 years to find a solution for this problem, I finally got it. The recovery used in SCH-I959 is not CM recovery or TWRP. You can find many packages to install GAPPS based on your Android version, and installation is very simple but the catch is it must need need CM recovery or TWRP recovery. Earlier also I tried many times to install GAPPS package through the default recovery of my galaxy I959, but it always used to give me an error about the whole file not being signed. But then I tried flashing TWRP recovery and then installed GAPPS package and voila I was able to use GAPPS on my SCH-I959(China Telecom Samsung Galaxy S4 CDMA-GSM Dual Sim). Below I will try to explain how I was able to get it done.
BEFORE PERFORMING ANY STEPS PLS GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE POST TO AVOID BRICKING YOUR PHONE.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE PERFORMING ANY STEPS MENTIONED HERE OR IN THE LINK PROVIDED ABOVE. I SHOULD NOT BE HOLD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS PROVIDED IN MY REPLY OR IN THE LINK PROVIDED AND GET YOUR PHONE BRICKED OR UNUSABLE.
ONE DISCLOSURE I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE, AFTER PERFORMING THESE STEPS MY PHONE WAS GETTING STUCK ON THE THE CHINA TELECOM LOGO, SO I HAD TO DO A FACTORY RESET THROUGH THE TWRP RECOVERY WHICH WIPED THE INTERNAL SD CARD SO I LOST ALL MY APPS AND WHATSAPP,WE CHAT AND QQ DATA. ANYWAYS I HAD TO FORMAT MY PHONE SO I DIDN'T MIND IT. BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU TO TAKE THE BACK UP ACCORDINGLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO THROUGH THESE STEPS.
Pls follow the link to to download and learn about how to install GAPPS on latest version of Android. (SITE WONT LET ME POST A LINK SO ADD http:// before forum) -- forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/tk-gapps-t3116347
PS. After flashing TWRP recovery using ODIN, the phone will restart and I noticed after restarting the default recovery will revert back and there is no sign of TWRP recovery. To avoid this situation, as soon as the the TWRP recovery is flashed and the phone is shut down, just disconnect it from USB and pull the battery out(for convenience you should do the process with back cover open) and do not let the phone restart. Then put the battery back in and restart the phone in recovery( by simultaneously pressing Volume up+Home key+Power key and let it go after you see Samsung Galaxy S4 logo). It will take you to TWRP recovery. I recommend before starting the process, keep all the necessary files downloaded and GAPPS package downloaded and saved in root folder of preferably External SD card or can be in internal SD. As soon as you boot in recovery after flashing, directly select Install update from SD card and select GAPPS package from the directory where you saved the file. After installation you should be able to use GAPPS in your Samsung Galaxy S4(I959).
PLS NOTE IF YOU USE THESE STEPS AND BRICK YOUR PHONE, I WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY, I USED THESE STEPS AND WAS ABLE TO USE GAPPS BUT YOU USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

[Q] May have bricked my Tab

So my wife and I got a 7" Tab 3 from some hour long seminar thing. She setup her account and then I did mine. On mine I get a popup about every 20 seconds about my Knox account not being activate. I've never heard of Knox so I did some googling. In the security administrators menu it won't let me uncheck the Knox box. There is no Knox app. When I go into all apps there are 2 apps with Knox in the name and I can't open, kill, stop, or anything else to either. So from what I could tell I was stuck with the popup. I decided to try and root it and see if I could delete it that way. I have probably rooted about 15 phones, tabs, iCraps, etc. in the past with no problems. During the Odin root it failed. Now it's stuck at a screen saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again". I'm downloading Kies now. Any suggestions? Thanks
How did you root it? This is tab 4 forum not 3.... Can you still get into Odin mode?

search odin reboot, odin reboot tar, odin reboot dummy, odin force reboot
it's one of those, when you find the thread you'll know it.
flash that dummy file to force odin to reboot and hopefully clear/dump cache,
make sure you have the appropriate custom recovery odin image for your tab,
if odin reboot works, force reboot your tab again to odin, start a fresh session of
odin on your pc [not reset, a new session] flash your custom recovery,
i strongly advise AGAINST twrp for this operation, after you get your tab
re-established then switch to twrp if that's your preference.
if recovery flash goes well, force reboot to recovery and connect via adb.
download chainfire's latest supersu update zip and a custom rom for your
tab, if needed. Push file to tab via adb push, then flash supersu if your
stock rom is still intact, otherwise flash custom rom.
stock rom intact - open app drawer and launch supersu, it should ask you
if you want to disable the knox nag. if successful, reboot to recovery
and make a backup, then perform a factory reset, reboot and re-launch
supersu and go from there.
by the way... WRONG FORUM !!!
just kidding ... :silly:
seriously though...

First, thanks for the reply. I got it fixed this morning.
Sorry, it's a Tab 4. I guess I was in a hurry and tried flashing the firmware for the 10". I let it sit overnight so the battery would die. I downloaded the correct stock firmware which took hours. In the morning I let it charge for a few hours then plugged it into the computer. I got the same screen but Odin recognized it. I flashed the stock firmware without any problems. Its working fine now with no traces of Knox.
I guess the next step will be rooting it...
Tab 4 ...no google play store, etc. after unrooting??
Anyways I had the great idea of rooting my newly purchased TAB 4. I too used Odin 3. I loved the fact that I was successful at gaining root without data or app loss,. though slowly I began to see pop-ups pertaining to apps on my sd card. After awhile, I was seeing more pop ups on my screen for apps that began to stop working. Most importantly Google Play store. I panicked and decided to unroot without backing up. After that, I tried to factory restart. Being that I was no longer rooted, I figured it was safe to restart from scratch. What was I thinking? It all started over again, only this time with the out of the box look. Honestly I have only done the whole root process a couple of times and from what I understood it seemed to be fairly easy according to the process explained to me. All was well until I couldn't gain access to my apps. or for that matter download new ones. Is my Tablet dead or is there a possible answer? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do?
Thanks

I think you're leaving a step out here... Did you use some app like apps 2 SD? Why did you root? What root software did you use?
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
hi,
after unroot , factory reset, cache and dalvik wipe don't account for the
garbage left in /data/data and settings left in place.
apps 2 sd is janky on stock roms, that's been my experience anyway.
you should only be using an odin root method for devices that do not
have a custom recovery available. Use chainfire's supersu update zip.

S6 SM-G920P BoostMobile G920PVPU3BOL1 5.1.1 STOCK Root XposedFW Viper4A 2020

Stock out of box Samsung Galaxy S6 From Boost Mobile.
Disclaimer >>>Might Work With the Sprint S6, since Boost is just the prepay of Sprint, the same phone I think...
First to say this is a rare find (2015 Release) but if you can get your hands on this awesome handset it has, 8Cores, 32Gb of Memory, 16mp.Cam, and as far as i know the Last Samsung Galaxy With the iR Blaster. So I take No-Responsibility to any Malfunctions or Broken Devices. Personally Had Little to Zero Problems Achieving this I would say This is the Best, Most stable Rooted Device i'v ever owned.
Im Posting here expecting that everyone knows what ROOT, TWRP, CWM, SuperSU is, Developer Mode/How to activate, how to reboot to recovery/Download Mode, Flash via Odin, and use TWRP.
I'll try to put this whole thing in chronological order. so out of box... or anyone who can restore their device back to this build BOL1It Works Flawlessly, Very-Fast/ResponsiveSystem Wide Equalizer>V4A-starts on boot, Xposed FW, Xprivacy, Lightning Wall, and The Google PlayStore still works.
Take Phone out of box [UNACTIVATED/NOSIM/AIRPLANE] LoL... Turn on at home alone... DO NOT CONNECT TO WiFi/DATA it will force update BOL1. Dont sign in google Acc. or Samsung Acc. SET UP http://wakasoftware.com/app-freezer-setup/ Once Completed With Freezer App Set up Reboot and Freeze The following Apk.'s
Search (Update) in Freezer app. You should find [com.sec.android.fotaclient, com.wssyncmldm, com.sec.fwservice, com.sprint.ce.updater, and [NOT100%ON com.policydm] Disable them. Next search sprint in Freezer; Disable every apk. listed under sprint search [com.sprint.zone, com.sprint.psdg.sw, com.samsung.sprint.chameleon, com.sprint.w.installer, com.sprint.ce.updater, com.sprint.w.prefact, com.sprint.dsa, com.samsung.sprint.setupwizard, and com.sprint.voicemail]
You can probably leave voicemail enabled boost has theirs installed anyways. Not sure if sprint-Vmail works or not. Go ahead and freeze any bloat ware or apps you don't want. Disable at own risk. If something messes anything up, reboot to recovery, factory reset, then start over lol
THIS WILL TRIP KNOX
Alright now go developer options and turn on OEM unlocking (allow the Bootloader to be unlocked) Now im going to thank (spammy l) XDA Member for this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...ainfire-autoroot-stock-custom-kernel-t3294308
Follow That Root Method-Just USE THE LATEST SuperSU & TWRP instead. Im on [SU 2.82-SR3] & [twrp-3.3.1-0-zerofltespr] Once obtained Root, an have installed TWRP&BUSYBOX; Create a Custom Recovery backup-TWRP BEFORE you go on to install XposedFW.
You can connect to WiFi/Data, set up google, samsung accounts, and activate wireless services/put SiM Card Back/Disable-airplane-mode now that you have the sprint apps disabled. WARNING if you root this without sprint apps disabled sprint will detect root on the phone and try to force update and continuously restart the phone only 10seconds or so after bootup. I did not know this when i first activated my services. Even after i turned off wifi and pulled the sim card out it was still rebooting only 10seconds after bootup. Giving me only moments to navigate to freezer app and search ''sprint'' and freeze freeze freezze.... so thats why we freeze them first. Also by disabling the sprint Apk. s it Removed the Boost Mobile Boot Animation not sure which one but just FYI just see stock samsung boot.img cool still.
Next have to Thank (wanam Contributor/Developer) For Their Forum( https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960 ) on how to install XposedFW For [5.1/6.0]Lollipop/Marshmallow. Follow That to get Xposed Installed properly. Once flashed it dose take a few minuets to startup, it will boot cycle a couple times, be patient.
Last but my personal favorite piece of software to place in to the system, ViPER4Android-FX 2.5.0.5
My last shout-out goes to (kevintm78 Senior Member) for his method on installing V4A The Proper Way. Here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/how-to-viper4android-install-proper-t3691597) after all that you should make a new custom recovery point to save your work. Thanks to all just wanted to put all that into one place for this specific build of phone.
