Follow this community on awesome updates and development for the KFHD 2013 model. One of the moderators here is releasing a Kindle "tool" which will root, install a recovery, and return to stock system on your KFHD 2013 model. If your kindle is bricked or needs rooting this tool will do it all for you. Credits go to Gran PC and Kyleberry for developing this tool. He's planning to release it some time soon.

no its completely legit dude, check it out
This is fake,if there was a recovery, hashcode would have found out by now,and would have made a cm.
Sent from my Amazon Tate using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Its from Gran PC, who rooted firmware 11.3.2.1... Its legit, no fake
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4 mit Tapatalk 2
its legit, he is a member here, and he has referenced the information in the OP a few times in this thread.. I am certainly monitoring his work since I've discovered it.
HAHA 'trolling' ! no we can already unbrick kindles and root every s/w version out there. Gran is putting together a tool to do so easily right now. keep an eye at the google plus community. We have a few screenshots of the work in progress
Ok. Sorry. I retract my assumption
It's nice to hear. Did he mean with "Recovery system", stuff like TWRP? So it would be possible to install custom FWs? That would be great!
Sorry,I just looked at it now! Seems cool, but the TV mode is worrying me...
Sent from my Amazon Tate using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Right now it will retore any s/w version to 11.3.2.1 stock, root, install gapps, fix the background bug, and we're working on using gapps and amazon appstores together. This device's bootloader cannot be cracked so Gran has porting TWRP or CWM to use as a second recovery, and booting a second kernel (like the motorola safestrap) on his to-do list, but it wont likely release with this option, as the priority is getting people unbricked

for now only "nandroid" like backups (the sys partition as bin) and restores.
Gran said he will take a look at twrp but right now before we try to modify any part of the system, we need a good restore tool.
His tool is not finished yet, for now only sys restore is ready in alpha stage. But better ask Gran
The next step is custom kernel (booted from original kernel) and maybe twrp.
If anyone of you is a developer and/or want to help, just join us and ask for permission to join the hangouts chat.
I am not a developer so I can not do much right now.
But we need help for
custom 2nd kernel booted from original via kexec (i think gran got the part booting the kernel, but the kernel itself is missing yet)
cwm/twrp ports (cwm untouched yet, gran took a look at twrp)
(maybe 2nd boot a different rom)
stable cm source for our device (4.4)
sw based boot into fastboot
xposed modules for stock (multimarket, navbar with recent app menu, ....)
oh we have a 855 mb cache partition, so keep in mind we cannot touch partition tables yet. If you can use the cache partition use it
Hope I don't forgot anything

Hi people,
First of all, sorry to disappoint, but I'm not a troll. I'm just a developer who was not exactly pleased when Amazon patched the root exploit
This tool can restore any device as long as you can boot into fastboot. If you can do that, you're golden.
Here's a link to the very very very very early alpha version for Windows.. it can only restore devices (doesn't have a root feature yet or anything else) and it's not entirely polished, but it definitely gets the job done. https://peniscorp.com/KindleRoot_dist_windows_0.1.zip
Here's the source code on GitHub... but since it's written in Lua it's pretty much included in the ZIP. https://github.com/GranPC/kindleroot
Hope you'll find it useful

I know i cannot install recovery and custom rom on this baseband yet, so my question is. Is it possible to root , and then install titanium to remove the bloats ? will doing this damage my phone when i want to factory reset it later ? . thank you
You can root. But do not delete the bloat. Only freeze with Titanium Backup

Depends on which apps your freezing/considering bloat. Its probably safer to unfreeze first before you reset in the event you accidentally freeze something that is required for the phone to function properly. Heres a list, BUT I didnt see which firmware they were using.

If you root on MF3 then your stock recovery will be corrupted. Factory reset through the phone will not work and make your phone in bootloop. There is no ODIN/factory reset at this time. So please be careful
Your best bet if you want to root is to carefully know what you're doing.
As for your other question if it's possible. Yes, it is possible to root but read above as I have warned you. Since you can root on MF3, you will also be able to install titanium backup to freeze the bloats. Do not remove/uninstall ANY of the bloats in case something goes wrong.
If you choose to unroot later: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45340743#post45340743
Good luck

I have been using CM as my OS since around the first stable release. I am now on 10.2 JB 4.2.2 Yet when I go in and look at my About Phone it says MF3. I have installed root for about a week and all was well and working with CWM (corrected) recovery. I even upgrade to a later version (corrected). Then some app (I can't remember which unfortunately) put on a different recovery with tiny letters - the purpose of which so it can script a full install so I didn't have to do it every step myself. When it installed it, I encountered the horrific blue letters of "Booting Recovery..." and it will not get past that.
I can't load any other recovery no matter what method tried, and I have tried many, and many different recoveries. I think I found out after installing the apk from the verizon section SAFESTRAP program some things. First there appears to no way to delete the cache partition. Both the cache and the recovery partitions can be empty. The recovery partition is not always empty but usually that is the case.
I have the sinking feeling I am the victim of what you said at first "If you root on MF3 then your stock recovery will be corrupted." But I dont see how this is possible considering I had CM 10.2 4.2.2 (corrected) when root was installed. But my symptoms fit what you have said above. Can you explain a lot more about what this is about and and details inside the phone as to what is known so far? I have a MS in CS so I have a good background, even though I am very limited on what I can do on computers today. Details!
I am willing to do most anything to get back to a starting point.

Can you still boot into a custom recovery?
Just wondering if there is anything special to know about rooting etc on the G2. Or is it as simple as others? I have had MANY android phones from Xperias to Galaxy's, htcs and most recently the Nexus 4.
Is there a noob guide on here I can't find much but admittedly I'm on Tapatalk at the minute.
How do I unlock boot loader or even can I?
Can I just fastboot flash a custom recovery?
What is this root checking that voids warranty is it like Samsung yellow triangle?
Sorry if any of this is stupid but I've never had an LG.

first things first what model of g2 do you have/ are planning on getting(to recommend proper rooting method), anyways I recommend ioroot for rooting your device(easiest way and lots of support), second to unlock bootloader and flash roms/kernels without issues you need to loki your device or get a twrp/cwm with loki built in to it. As for flashing recovery the easiest is to use freegee from the play store and choose which recovery you would like to use, once rooted the root check is in download mode it will say if it's rooted or not but using lg flash tool and going to stock removes this and there aren't any stupid questions if I do say so myself. Hope this helps any thing else let us know

It is just the international version it should arrive tomorrow. So from what I understand I can follow any root and boot loader unlock guide that matches my version. And can fully return to stock with no traces or issues?

yea pretty much as long as you don't flash the wrong file everything will be smooth anyways this is the international thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802) so you can sart planning what you want to do once it arrives and trust you gonna love it
also:
root- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 (latest ioroot and drivers)
rooting instructions- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
recovery twrp- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 (I prefer twrp)
recovery cwm- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468858 (just in case your not a fan of twrp)
(both recoveries include loki already)
As a last note if by any chance you want to try stock kitkat (you can try official without root by flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664933 through lg flash tool) or if you root first you can try(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) although you will lose custom recovery and need to use the flash tool to jump down to stock jb and start again have fun :fingers-crossed:
Similar Situation but with Sprint
Hello, I'm kinda in the same situation. except the G2 is with Sprint.
First, i'd just like to say that i can root, twrp, custom with quite a few HTC and Samsung phones but have yet to tackle an LG. It's actually my girlfriends. I told her not to accept any updates when she recieved the phone today from the local Sprint Store. So as it stands she's completely stock to my knowledge. I've included pictures.
Since she's on Sprint and NOT International, i can only assume the guides that you posted to help our other friend will not help me(or at least to an extent). I'm definitely not opposed to reading and learning, just really unsure where to start as the G2 is only split on the carrier level at Development. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

the rooting works with the g2 as long as it's stock 4.2.2 and the recovery guide for twrp plus 2.6.3.3 from here(http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr) should work but I did see somewhere that an update to the sprint model added some spark thing(I don't know what it is exactly) that does not play too well with custom kernels
on another note the reason for it splitting on a carrier level is so that no one flashes something that isn't for them which would cause lots of unwanted problems but of course if you want a rom for your model you head over to the sprint thread look for the one you want and flash away, and always remember to have a backup it can save your phones life someday

Wow that's some great help and info there mate thanks for all the help! Seems like everything I need all in one place. Its out for delivery today so will hopefully be playing with it by this evening.

Well like I mentioned before if you root first you can flash this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) if done correctly you keep root but will lose recovery because as of yet there isn't one and since its international bloat is minimal unlike when it's from an American carrier
Once you root, using freegee to install recovery is trivial and yes it includes Loki.
I used ioroot to root my G2 and I have no complaints, everything went through smoothly

Replacing factory firmware!!!
Hello,
i Am newbie here, recently i brought a LG G2 D802 supposedly from a EU store and i am in Finland, but to my surprise the software firmware is Asia made, Hong Kong to be particular. it goes like this, D80210b-HKG-XX build JDQ39B kernel 3.4.0. With this original Stock software, the 4G option is not shown( i know it can be done by hidden menu but i want to get a permanent fix); the MMS setting althought i did it manually by inserting the values provided by the Network service provider.Still i am unable to get that fix.
I am in turn to contacting my seller for the correct working OPEN stock rom installed G2 but if the case does not go like that then i wish to root it to the OPEN international ROM . From what i have read, if you update then it goes back to the HKG rom, if there any way i can remove the factory rom with the OPEN Rom and receive the update OTA and it will not revert back. I have been doing my research on this but i am not able to get the answers... Hope some one will shine some light on this.
Thanks in Advance !!!
Hello,
Yesterday an update came up on my screen, I clicked "Install Now"
The phone restarted into CWM.
I am rooted ofcourse, and I'm really scared for my phone,
Is there anything to be done?
Which phone do you have?
Your phone is rooted, do you have a stock or custom ROM?
You should provide a little more information so people can help you.

You should try to reverse back to stock.

I've found that on the forums for LG G2's.

The only thing you probably have to worry about is the data on your device since it is possible you have to wipe it. No worries on bricked device.

No. But it looks like you flashed a borked file. Maybe the CM you installed has a wrong MD5, or you might have flashed a CM that's for a different G2. Either way, you can either push a new ROM zip into your phone to flash, or KDZ back to stock like the guy above me said. Good luck!
And don't worry, your phone is completely fine. But this should be a lesson to always perform a backup before ANY ROM flashing.

What I'd like to know is how did you get CWM in the first place? I've tried for a couple of hours with ROM Manager and the D802 is not supported even though it claims it is. All I get is the red triangle on top of the green android bot and what looks like 2.x CWM. Not sure since I'm new. But it only has about 5 options. No MOUNT, NO ADVANCED, Looks unsuitable for flashing a ROM. I saw this version the very first time I flashed a phone and I soft bricked the phone. It was a Nexus 4. I recovered but I'm not taking any chances and messing with that again. The only way I recovered was using Wugfresh. I need something like Wugfresh for my D802 where I can take those risk. I'm angry because I can't flash anything now. I've got 327 apps to get installed. No one wants to do that manually. It is really inconceivable that this phone which is still arguably the best in the world after 6 months is not supported the way it should be with recovery. Any help in getting CWM working would be greatly appreciated.

That won't work because you can't even get to the menus to install the zip. That the whole problem. You can't really do anything because it basically hangs up with the red triangle. With the number of people having this problem and how great a phone this is you'd figure this problem would not even exist. Here's a screen shot of the problem everybody is having.

I'm new so don't know much. My understanding is you can't flash anything without being in recovery, right? Look at busted25's post. I'm not risking anything that is not concrete. Much as I like to tinker around I accomplish nothing if I end up with a brick. On my Nexus I could risk everything and because I had Wugfresh. No such thing. I'm going to look at he LG software suite and see if can backup the phone enough to restore it should i soft brick or something

Well the exploit we were using to install recovery/Loki was patched in kk so currently if you want recovery it's the same procedure for all devices downgrade to 4.2(first firmware available) root install recovery and depending on your device I can link you a modified kk that uses the aboot from 4.2 plus modified kk kernel to boot to kk while retaining root/recovery

I don't know if I have the skills to pull that off. I could wind up like busted25 and all the others who bricked. I think my best option might be to sell it very cheap quickly and order a new one and never upgrade. I'll take the hit. Phone is less than a week old. One thing I'm not understanding though is I'm seeing only kitkat custom roms for this phone out there. That's why I thought it was ok to upgrade. I didn't see any 4.2.2. Everybody who flashed the custom roms must have been fairly or very skilled. One thing that made me upset is ROM Manager advertised recovery for this phone that was bogus. I even paid for the touch version and got nothing and no email reply
I have never run a stock OS rooted. Always AOKP or CM. What should we do now?
-How to we protect it to make sure VZW doesn't somehow patch it?
-Tethering without Foxfi now possible. See below.
-SuperSu info - see below.
-What will we need to do about updates?
-What else?

** No, Root does not allow us to unlock the bootloader. They are entirely different. I personally have not heard of anyone working on that. Most knowledgeable people I have heard say it would require a leak of the keys from Verizon. **
***Below are apps and/or tweaks (not obvious ones) known to work by me or someone else that has tested***
-Xposed Framework
----X Tether (Free tethering)!
----Wanam Xposed - Free tethering option does NOT work for me. Others report it does.

Did you install SU before or after rooting? Or had that problem, stupid me in the antisapation of having root I installed SU last night and after rooting just now could not for the life of me get it to update SU, after multiple reboots I finally uninstalled it after clearing the cache and app settings in app manager, rebooted then reinstalled, then ran root checker, it failed then it asked for root, granted, rechecked, and it passed!

logically, you should avoid any vzw updates. SU may fail, but it still works. try running a rooted app. it will ask you to grant permission. I just removed over 12 apps that vzw forced on my phone.

chainfire needs to update app before well b able to update it.. it still has root and works so be patient.. we cant keep vzw/samsung from patching it on future devices but it will take them a bit of time so id imagine later updates and newer phones yet to come out would be patched.. now we enjoy root until someone down the road (hopefully) gets us custom recovery for custom roms but lets not jump the gun here, we just got root so let the devs enjoy that feat lol

Rename SDM.apk and SDM.odex. to .bak files and VZW can't use the OTA updater anymore. The software updater in settings will be gone too. You will need a file explorer like fx and the root add on for this, it's free.
EDIT: SDM.apk is in the system/app driectory.
Safestrap is next: you'll be able to run custom ROMs but not custom kernels, so TW builds but not AOSP (unless the S5 GPE is built on a TW kernel, as the original 4.2.2 S4 GPE ROM was). I wouldn't actually delete any APKs from your device; just freeze them with Titanium.

Sure, but I cannot guarantee you won't have any issues. I managed to remove a decent amount of bloat apps and rebooted successfully. I will list them below.

- Google Play Music

- VZW protection
- Messaging +
- Amazon
- Kindle
- Amazon Appstore
- IMDB
- VZW ringtones
- VZW protection and support
- Isis Wallet
and a few more that I cannot remember. I hope this helps.

Two of the more useful features (I believe) are:
1) native tethering -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2768837
2) download booster -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2719582
There's no concept of recovery, so it would involve uploading the files via adb or some other means and running the scripts via terminal emulator/adb
(1) involves replacing framework-res.apk with the packaged copy -- last time I tried to attempt something like that with a live filesystem I ended up with a bootloop I couldn't resolve and had to reflash the stock ODIN, which I don't want to do at this time.
You can also enable the hidden menus via the phone dialer after root -- change /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu to ON

I have not. From the updater script on the 2.1 ODEX zip file on that thread it's replacing these files:
/system/framework/services.jar
/system/framework/services.odex
/system/priv-app/SecSettings.apk
/system/priv-app/SecSettings.odex
I briefly looked through the thread and I don't believe the author of the mod specifically mentioned what the changes he did are. I'd prefer getting the original files from my own phone, extracting/decompiling the contents, making the relevant changes, packaging them back up and replacing them on the phone (after making backups). I'm also lazy, so i'll probably leave that to someone else.

Uh, yeah. The whole killswitch process only starts when you fire up your replacement tablet for the first time & set up an internet connection.
That is the ultimate reason why you put your radios to Airplane before flashing, and even before booting, you flash the remove TegraOTA zip file in TWRP.... heck, even a clean flash would be good too.

Removing the SIM if you've got the LTE version, clean flashing if using stock images & skipping the WiFi setup. Imo that's the best way to do it, you get all the time in the world to remove TegraOTA whichever way you're comfortable with.
It's honestly a bit sad that some people don't take the time to do this stuff properly.
Here is what I think happened: i had Recovery erased..you know why. So I were on stock with nethunter and suffered from random reboots. That's why I tried reflash it. Once the regular Recovery was installed i got Killswitch es ???*
NVM, just realized he did it through a manual flash, not OTA.
NVM again, I am bad at reading. So he flashed a recovery image then got the OTA after he rebooted. So again, why is Nvidia still pushing this update if they have known it was bricking devices since January.

Can you explain please all the steps you did until the kill? Ibinstalled 4.1 stock update from.nvidia site on my pyro. Before booting the os i deleted tegraota with the zip and erased recovery with fastboot. But i havent turned on the wifi yet.

Can you tell me please which version of xposed? Id like to unstall it. I also freezed with titanium almost all nvidia apps and services. If the kill switch is an update sent by nvidia servers, deleting tegra ota would be safe, and also the recovery, so nothing can be flashed. Did you check if the kill is triggered for your pyro?

So, if the kill is contained in the stock images and you were connected to internet while using the stock image, you would have been affected by the kill switch. But youbsay its working, so i think theres no kill in.the stocks

I installed 4.0.1 before the 4.1 and tablet worked (but never cinnected). Can you "system update" on your settings after flashing the nomoreota zip?

Its not green. Its the nirmal g updater. When.i.was stock 5.1.2 i deleted manually tegraota apk and "system update" on settings was disappeared. Maybe the g updater is another way to kill the tablet?
