probably not, as you have no access to the FS and even if you had, there would be the signature check

It's nothing special .
Only a name display problem .

As for the registry writing, nearly all OEM "Settings" apps will write to the registry. They will only do so at specific paths, and usually only certain values there. They can't be used to make arbitrary changes to the system.

What this means is that the update didn't complete properly, and there are some .NET entries that are still borked. It can be easily fixed.
Just install another keyboard language and reboot. It will start the process of compiling all of the frameworks, and when it is finished everything should be back to normal.

HTC Home Today Plugin

Hi,
I’m trying to make the HTC Home Today plug-in on WM5 to work. With many try and a lot of will I was unsuccessful because ROM upgrade was not an option.
After many hours and days, I found out that there is an error when doing installation from the cab file. I was able to intercept the error. I found out that the HTCHome.dll doesn’t register on WM5.
I think there is maybe a reference in the DLL that looks to see witch version of windows mobile it’s on, and if the reference is ok then the file get registered, if not it doesn’t and fails to register.
Here I’m boys and girls, I need good soul that can help us (I say us because there is others that is dreaming) to get a workaround!
I’m at my limit knowledge to hack this DLL that’s why I writing this today.
Regards,
My phone is a HTC TITAN (P4000) with WM5
PS: the problem is not the phone model but the OS version…
Requirements to have this pluging working:
Windows Mobile 6 ( PocketPc).
HTC HomePlug: Today screen plug-in (Displaying Time/messaging notifications/Launcher), allowing quick changes of various options, such as weather, missed calls, sms/email notifications, time/alarm changing & program launcher.
Link to the current file:

I didn't have time to look at this and don't know when or if at all I get the time, but if the problem is with the registry the solution should be easy:
Get a reg editor, got to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items and manually create a key for the plugin. Check to see how other plugins are listed there and you will know what values to create (key name is what you see in the settings menu).
Other possibility is that the DLL is compiled with WM 6 SDK. Though I have not made many attempts with this it seems files compiled this way are not recognized as valid by earlier OS version.
This might be resolved by tweaking the DLL header.

YES i have done the registery edition in the today items and added the accorded strigs.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\ HTC Home]
"Enabled"=dword:1
"DLL"="\\Windows\\HTCHome.dll"
"Order"=dword:0
"Flags"=dword:0
"Selectability"=dword:2

How to install new graphics driver and change resolution ok, better performance.

With the new drivers of intel the resolution button don't work. There is a trick. With regedit export two chain:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001]
then install the new driver, and then combine the two export chain.
And voila, the new driver work and the change resolution is ok.
In CrystalMark the opengl performance is near twice.
Sorry for my english.
As far as I see the two chains are identical. What for?

How do you combine them ? I don't understand how to do this ..
When you export both chain, it create a .reg file. Then install the new driver and then double click in this .reg files. When you click this .reg windows ask you if you want to combine this .reg with you registrer, click yes, and restart
why?
hi
I just upgraded my shift again for the second time since i got it . i upgrade, reboot, press the resolution change button and it will tell you to reboot.
after reboot everything works with the new graphics driver, so why bother with registry?
Where do you get the drivers for this and all other drivers? Do we have to search for each drivers for the update?

When you install the new driver, almost in the spanish version, when you press the resolution change appear only 800x480 and you can´t change to 1024x600.
Thanks ¡¡¡¡¡¡. It works. Maybe in other languages other entry must be exported y
but It works for spanish devices. (and maybe other language devices hant this problem)

Press the resolution change button and see what happens.
Right...nothing happens. This is why the registry mod is necessary.
looks like the problem was only a reg edit. nice find.

Hope you can help me do what you instruct as I did a MS Windows Update yesterday, which installed a new Intel Graphics Driver (v.7.14.10.1437) and now the higher interpolated resolution is gone....would like to fix this without doing a restore, which was only solution from HTC when I called them today... I did find out that v.7.14.10.1364 is what's installed when you do restore, but they couldn't provide a way to get this version without doing restore!
Can you please elaborate more on how you do this?
When I went to export each item, I need to enter the name for the exported item. What name do I use for each file exported?
Also, When you say to "install the new driver and then double-click in this .reg files", what do I double-click??? Do you mean each of the exported .reg files individually or together or ???
Thanks for any clarifications!
UPDATE - Got Higher Res Back! Installed Other Version of Driver
UPDATE
OK, got higher rez back without doing registry edits!!!!....
All I did was download and install v.7.14.10.1461 of the Intel Graphics driver, reboot and voila! Got higher resolution option again..... whew!.....
HI,
i try this way this morning, but after installing the driver i'm still unable to change the resolution.
Can someone post the reg file
Thanks Andi
Hi all,
i've just downloaded the latest intel drivers via update and screen res is working nicely, but i was wondering if anyone has had any luck in trying to get the screen rotation working in vista? i'd love to be able to use Journal in portait mode like i do in my larger tablet pc.
Thanks,
Scott.
I heard from a US associate of mine that a driver will be made available as update from Intel sometime Q3 2008 for rotation implementation. They have to overcome some video memory limitations with the chipset first.
Don't take this as gospel but its something at least.
problem with display driver
After updated the display driver (driver version - 7.14.10.1437) from automatic windows update I got this problem: in the device manager, in the display driver tab it said "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"; in the display settings I got only on resolution "640x480" and is "Default monitor on" (nothing).
I have try to: update driver, rollback driver (even the standard vga driver gave me the same error code)
Any ideeas on how to solve that???
Sorry fom my english.
Thanks for sharing the information!
Worked perfectly on my german Shift

That's certainly a start! Would be fantastic if they did get it going, but i guess in the meantime we might have to be stuck with the landscape mode. oh well, i still love my shift!

its just the gif file, you can change the setting with advanced config or manually editing the registry
to point to the file
hklm/software/htc/htc animation startupgif /windows/semc1904.gif
Apologies for hijacking the thread slightly (it looks nicely resolved to me though), does anyone know where the initial Sony Ericsson image is stored - i.e. the one that greets you when you first fire up the Xperia?
I found SEMC2904.bmp in the Wndows folder which is exactly what the startup screen looks like, but even if I change that file the startup image stays the same.
Any ideas? Or failing that, is there a registry setting to change the path for the initial startup image?

Can't restore xperia animated logo
Hi there,
been trying to get back xperia animated logo but no luck, seems that registry keys are not enough.
I've messed witk Mainsplash and Subsplash and successfully changed both by modifying htc rom tool settings and playing with nbimg, but xperia animated logo doesn't have anything to do with bootsplash, it's managed bt registry and no need to mess with reflashing inital splashes.
Here's what occurs at wm boot:
1. Display Mainsplash
2. Display Subsplash
3. Display Animated logo
4. Display Welcomehead*.png
I 've also tried playing with registry keys which were used successflly by HTC prophet users to display boot animation (see : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1719336&postcount=19)
but still no luck...
Has anyone succesfully restored Xperia boot logo ?
EDIT: Solved!

EDIT (14/01/2009):
Finally managed to get this stuff back, registry keys were not correct.
Here is a link for all those who want to get back their Xperia Boot Logo.
Unzip this file in your kitchen's OEM folder, it is ready to be cooked:
http://www.4shared.com/file/80625819/778c01d2/Xperia_stock_startup.html
(if you want to get it back without cooking anything, just put the file in \windows
on your device and edit your registry according to included keys in .rgu file)
Hope someone will find this usefull.
Cheers.
the reg key works prefectly in mine and on several other wwe roms are you on a french rom? that may be the problem..
you dont need to start playing with cooking roms just to get the htc animated startup working.
of course the easy way is to use advanced config to choose the gif you want to use.. and thats where i got the reg key from
Thank you for the answer fards, the problem was that at the beginning i was trying to put the wrong reg key which was included in archive posted some posts above.
First reg key i've tried was:
HKLM/software/htc/htcanimation
Tried also with a space between "htc" and "animation" but none worked.
By searching a little i found some htc prophet related posts with registry settings that put me on the right path.
After some unsuccessful tries i found that the following keys did the trick - at least for me -:
"Volumn"=dword:00000000
"WAVFile"="dummy"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\SEMC1904.gif"
"Priority"=dword:000000C8
As you can see, the keys for playing a wave file when dislaying animation are here too.
Since i'm beginning in cooking stuff - and also in the whole ppc world - and wanted to make an ultralight ROM from my stock french one, i wanted to do everything at hand, in order to improve my understanding of the whole stuff, including little "cosmetic" details as well as critical system tweaks to fit my needs without using a single piece of additional software.
I've edited my previous post according to how i resolved this and included a zip archive to replace the one posted previously, which was including wrong registry settings.
Nice to see what we can achieve by working on various things and exchanging ideas, techniques and advises.
I've learned many thing since i began last week, but still a lot to learn...
Now i can go to the next level...
Cheers and thanks again.

id consider merging the two, just for the hell of it.
Yes i have a lot more too, looks like a partial drag/move which you interupted by rebooting. Ive scanned the registry a few times, the software folder is the only place they exist.
well when I tried to boot up my phone again I got MS:OUTLOOK error and Comm Manager: Failed to read Comm Manager Settings... everytime I restart my phone. So if I copyed Software these errors shouldn't exist? I mean.. the phone was running like normal before this happend. Even made a phone call ~5min before my problem.
ahh to be honest I'd have hard reset by now.things like this never seem to be really fixed

there's a registry key for sounds but I don't remember where was it and what sounds you can edit .
if you do some search you should find it surely .
as I checked the data file of wojitasxda I didn't see full fs keys in his interop unlock so you can't access anywhere in system files using MTP .
