Yeah, It's been too long. Hopefully we will get a TFT tonight and @[NUT] will be able to get as a rooted flashable. I do hope that they will figure out a one click root solution as well. Expect a lot of new developments for sure

If i have an Unlocked Bootloader , running .1.136 STOCK odexed, (never flashed a ROM) can I update using FOTA?
More than likely I would say any moded phone unless it's returned to stock won't update ota. At least that's how it was back in my Samsung days, I haven't moded my Sony. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to just flash an ftf when it's available. Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that's how it is....
If changelog is correct - there are no Tap2wake, no 4K, TimeShift and smart features - no matter how optimised it'll be without new features it's just faster JB.
We already have almost all from Z2 so once again, we'll have to rely on our brains....
Fortunately, @serajr is preparing systemUI for KK and I'm sure we will all work on porting and moving apps and features from Z2 KK.
I'm not sure I'll even flash KK.
I'm sure I won't flash it now, without root privilege...

Hello Guys,
I want to explain how to root your Sony Xperia Z with version 10.4.1.B.0.101.
What you need;
-Computer (with Windows)
-Sony Xperia Z (with unlocked bootloader)
-SuperSU (Download)
-Custom Recovery (Click Here(it's by DooMLoRD))
-Fastboot (Download)
Preparation:
1. Download all files.
2. Extract the "Fastboot.zip".
3. Extract the "boot.img" from the "Recovery.zip" in the fastboot folder.
4. Copy the SuperSU.zip to your device.
5. Shutdown your Sony Xperia Z.
Instructions:
1. Flash the "boot.img" using fastboot. (Open cmd and type in "fastboot flash boot boot.img")
2. Hold the volume button up (at you Sony Xperia Z) and plugin the USB into the device and to your Computer.
3. The operation will start automatically.
4. Reboot from fastboot. (Type in "fastboot reboot")
5. When the phone vibrates while it boot hold the volume button up to enter the recovery.
6. Flash the SuperSU.zip with the Custom Recovery.
7. Reboot to system.
7. Finished.
IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK, PLEASE WRITE ME!!!! BACK UP YOUR TA WITH "Backup TA"!!!!!!
Thanks for your attention,
MMX35.
Thanks

ahh, so i should make a only kernel ftf of my own 569 firmware and flash only kernel before i restore my TA-backup. But, do i loose root if i flash my own kernel only of 569?
Ok i unlocked my bootloader and rooted my device this way written by OP. No problem, i got root
Then i made my own Only kernel from my orginal ftf and flash it to remove DooMLoaRD's kernel we used here and it worked i still have root.
Proof:
And now i'm gonna relock my bootloader using my TA-Backup, crossing fingers and everything else.

YES YES Got ROOT and with "Locked Bootloader"

unlock the phone from T-Mobile first using the following method
http://sim-unlock.net/simlock/Sony/Xperia_Z1/
then try again
The 14.1.G.2.257 Firmware is still not "directly" rootable with a tool.
You just have the possibility to downgrade on .534/.518 and use the already posted root instructions.
Either on an OTA Update to 14.1.G.2.257 you will keep rootaccess. To the newest firmware (.290) the OTA Update will not preserve full rootaccess -> only with ULBL you can root the latest one.
But be warned! MAKE AN TA-BACKUP before unlocking the bootloader.
Regards,
meet
EDIT: @Morlock O
The SIMlock does not point any issues on flashing ftf files or rooting the phone....

Sigh.
Dear God, will the Z1 never have a normal/easy rooting method like it did on 4.2.2 with vRoot? I'm an amateur at best. I don't want to downgrade (which I heard could break the IMEI or something), or unlock my bootloader (which seems like an awful lot of trouble). Someone please tell me it's possible... I've been walking around with a non rooted phone longer than I'd like. My S3 and note 10.1 were a breeze to root. I don't even remember having any trouble rooting them... Why is it so hard to root the Z1!?!?

I think IMEI lose only occurs on Samsung Devices. Off course its possible on most other phones but it's far less unlikely that it will occur on the Xperia Z1.
By the way if you downgraded to 4.2.2 you would temporarily lose cellular use on your phone, you would need to update the baseband to the one that is packed with the latest update. But even that won't ruin your IMEI, just temporarily disable it.

use this ftf to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48555400&postcount=3 to .534. You won't "loose" Your IMEI.
Than root, install recovery and upgrade to .136.

Yep.
You can add another step to this. If you have a backup in TWRP.
After flashing via Flashtool reboot to system. After system boot reboot to recovery and flash the data partition backup (_only_). Then wipe Dalvik. You will end up with all Your apps+data

To tell you the truth: I don't know.
What I would do is:
1. Make TWRP backup.
2. Wipe everything.
3. Flash the zip.
4. Power off.
5. Flash the FTF via Flashtool.
6. Boot into system. After boot reboot to recovery.
7. Restore DATA partition ONLY. Wipe Dalvik.
8. Boot into system.
After that you end up with a clean install with all your apps+data.
HTH.

Have you checked if your region received it through:
Xpericheck.com
Or:
Fwchecker.com
You can download the ftf with Flashtool that got Xperifirm included. It fixes everything automatically, the only thing you have to do is downloading it and afterwards flash it. Even if your region hasn't received you can give another region a go, but I wouldn't recommend it, because the mobile network is customized in each different firmware region

Kernels added and updated
One quesgion, bit of a noob question but...
When I unlock bootloader I lose the DRM keys.. How can I get them back or restore them? And second, what do I do if I flash this kernel with latest FW, and let's say there's a newer FW in some months.. Can I then update my FW from flaahtool without losing root or...??
