On my phone, there are 2G, E, 3G, H, H+ networks,
2G & E are too slow,
3G & H are basically = no connection, when I on these networks, webpage is taking forever to load,
H+ is the only one working,
Here is my question:
How to toggle on H+ ?:silly:
Anyone?

If you already support carrier WCDMA 3G
H + will automatically appear

Hi i have the HD2 on 02 and when im in a 3G area my network operater changes to show 3G 02-UK but my signal bars dont change they stay the same as
(the 8th one down on the left of page 39)
the symbol to the left of the signal bars shows H with two arrows i havent seen my signal bars change to show
(5th one down on the right of page 39)
why is this?
Am i connected to 3G?
I have never seen my signal bars change like the ones on page 39/40?
http://www.o2.co.uk/deviceinfo/device-pdfs/htchd2eng.pdf
The manual is wrong.
My O2 HD2 on t-mobile shows 3G/G/H in a white box when no data connection on.
When data connection is on, you will see 3G/H/G (and possibly E [t-mobile dont have E]) with arrows, indicating data is on.
The manual suggests that the signal icon will intregrate with the data icon whereas we see it as data icon then signal icon.
What you are seeing is correct.
When it shows 3G with arrows, you are connected to 3G, H is slightly faster 3G, E is edge (slightly faster 2G) and G is GPRS 2G.
ok thats cool so when i see the H with arrows this is faster than 3G so what are the actual speeds of 3G & this H thingy? and does this mean that my HD2 is connected to a faster connection than my mates iGay 3GS
HSPDA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access
The actual speeds may vary, depending on network, tower distance, how many people connecting on that tower etc etc.
basically
GPRS=2G
EDGE=2.5G
3G=3G
H (HSDPA)=3.5G
i a euro tab with simple mobile and i used to see the letter E where my network is and today i see a letter G. what does that means?
E: Edge
g: Gprs
The letter G stands for GPRS - i.e. very slow data connection
The E your used to seeing is for EDGE, which is a slightly faster data connection.
Occasionally, assuming your network supports it, you will see an H, which stands for HSPA which is the 3G we all know and love.
As to why your showing a G today and not an E like usual, perhaps you are in a low signal area?
Have you changed modems/roms? Some modems do not support the appropriate bands and result in very weak or no signal.
All else fails, a good old reboot might do the trick too.
Hope this helped.
thank you all
i think i was in a bad area today,but now i'm back home and E is back and the connection is better, thank you all.
E=EDGE, a low speed data frequency. G=GSM, the voice frequencies for phones with sim cards.

hi you may try to set it to WCDMA
by clicking on settings >> wireless and network >> mobile network then
click on network mode and set it to WCDMA if your network supports it and you'll get 3G faster than edge and gprs

Mine differentiates between UMTS (I think) and HSPA, by showing a '3G' or a 'H' respectively. All in all five levels (in order of increasing speed):
nothing
G
E
3G
H
How do I know if my 3G is working? (Tmobile US, HD2, WP7, Leo70, very new just flashed it) What I am basically is wondering is how can I tell if my 3G is on? I do not have a data plan on my phone, due to the fact that I am always at school so I can always be on WIFI so I have no need for it. The Wifi works perfectly I just want to know if my 3G is working bc if I look at the signal it has signal but has no letters beside it like "3G" "E" etc... any help??
THANK YOU!
If you do not have a data plan no "H" "3G" or "E" icon will show up.
An easy way to test this is if you turn off your Wi-Fi and then try to load a website, if it doesnt load, no data.
i get that but what im wondering if the fact when i was running wm6.5 i had 3g written at the top by the signal bars and now there is nothing??
If you setup the APN correctly then it will establish a data connection with T-mobile whether you have a data plan or not.. When you install WP7 rom it wont have the apn set.. you have to do that manually... Also if you turned off Data in the cellular menu it wont show E/3G/H..
Some Advice if your not using the DATA then in the Cellular Menu turn off 3G and switch to 2G like that it uses less battery compared to trying to stay connected to Tmobiles 3G
T-Mobiles main apn: epc.tmobile.com or (for the proxy) wap.voicestream.com
I've just loaded a Win Phone 7 rom onto my HTC on vodafone.
On Win6.5 I used to get G, E, 3G, 3G+ as symbols at the top of the screen.
In Win 7 my 3G toggle is on, but all I get is G or H??
Is G = 3G in this instance because the toggle is on and H = 3G+ or am I only getting slow connections (i.e. really G=gprs and H is edge)? The browser speed seems OK, but.....

If you get either G or H thats good... G is basic GSM and H is faster 3G
H is HSPDA+
G is GSM
Finally An Answer For You....
In WP7, go into Settings. Tap Cellular (your carrier in this case T-Mobile) should be displayed.
Tap the 3G Connection setting to it turns on. And you're done. If you want to see if you have 3G or whatever connection at any given moment you can lock the screen and turn it back on to see the connection status in the upper left corner.
A simpler way, is like on the WM6.5 world...tap the very top portion of the screen (where the taskbar would be in WM6.5). Your battery, time, and connections status will drop down.
Voila!

Sir, just fyi: "G" means GPRS on a GSM network. HSDPA is still GSM, but with higher rates. "E" menas EDGE and has lower rates compared with HSDPA but hight compared with GPRS.
When you has G means your network is slow, about 1.5Mbps, when E it's quite OK,3.5Mbps and when H or 3G your network has higher rates 7.2Mbps or +
Hope it helps

oh I know.. I realized it after I posted and reread it.. but then again in most cases barebones GPRS isnt really noticed since it jumps to edge right away

Have searched the entire forum for this to no avail. I want to disable HSDPA and only enable 3G. This was a straightforward process on my SGS. Assistance appreciated.

HSDPA is the only 3G standard that the phone supports, as far as I understand. So as far as the Desire HD goes, they're the same thing.
I am on t-mobile in th UK. My dhd switches between showing a G or H on the top line. If I go into settings, about phone, network, mobile network type. It shows either gprs, udms or hsdpa depending on signal type available. The phone supports edge too and can show an E on the too line but T-Mobile uk don't appear to support this.
Not sure how you could limit it but t-mobile have done this for some,contracts as reports elsewhere of download speeds capped at 384kbs I.e. max rate for 3G rather than the 2mbs+ I have seen on mine. Seems to be,contracts bought through resellers that don't include data and they use the free booster to provide the data element.
Hth
I am on T-Mob in the UK too. I get either G (GPRS) 3g (3g) or H (HSDPA) not seen an E yet and I have had it since October.
Mine switched between 3G and H on its own accord, there is no toggle that I know, think it depends on where you are and the mast you are connected to at the time?

I get E every now and then but mostly when my phone switches from orange to the T-Mobile network.

It depends on where you are and the signal strength your getting, why you would want to disable HSDPA is beyond me, it is the fastest you can get on your desire hd, E being the slowest (edge) then G, 3G, then H.
Why would you want to make your device slower?
Very weird, but anyway, as far as i know you can only toggle between 2g and 3g which will incorporate HSDPA as well.
Hope this helps.

HSDPA consumes more battery. My SGS used to support Edge, 3G and HSDPA too with an option to disable HSDPA and and allow 3G and Edge only.
Thanks for all your replies guys.

Download Advanced Settings app, go into phone info and there are some options there. Can't remember which is which though, there is a thread in here somewhere about the settings

Who was telling otherwise?
For Using only 3G or HSPA
Settings->Wireless &Networks->Mobile Networks->Network Mode->select WCDMA only.
Here according to your preference change between UTMS(or WCDMA) or GSM(2G).
Also to clarify speeds
G<E<3G<H.
Is it possible, in the location I'm referring to, to change the following:
G to GPRS
E to EDGE
3G
H to 3.25G
H+ to 3.5G
4G
maybe with an xposed plugin. some roms have custom icons from carriers you can pick. i'd say its more hassle than its worth though.
Yes it's possible. You'd have to create the images though

If you prefer G (Generation) format, here is some information:
G (GPRS) = 2.5G
E (EDGE) = 2.75G
UMTS = 3G
H (HSDPA) = 3.5G
H+ (HSDPA+) = 3.75G
LTE = 4G
