Help with US 3G ON HD

hi, i just bought one HTC TOUCH HD, on the box it's written T8282, but when i check on the device itself in system info, it's written T8285 and the startup logo is from Telstra. I know that ONLY TELSTRA's HD are compatible with US 3g, but when i put the sim in, it only shows Edge. I tried to manually set to UMTS 850MHZ in the device, setting, network, and still end up with Edge. any help? is there something i have to do in order to use US 3G?

first, welcome to xda developers. now to your concern... who is your service provider? it has to be at&t AND you have to be in an area where 3G is supported by 850 towers with reasonable strong signals. do you know if you have 850 towers in your location? have you been able to get 3G with another phone? my suggestion is to go to an area where you've gotten a 3G signal before an see if you can get the "H" symbol. there's really nothing you should have to do to the phone to get 3G; however, you're going to have manually add at&t's connection settings becuase the Telstra connection settings are locked. oh yeah, did you confirm that the words BLAC120 are on the label under the battery?
second, you posted similar questions in 2 threads and, i believe, that posting this question in the other would have gotten some helpful hints and spared you from some moderator feedback.
As pointed you have already posted this question in another thread with people responding with similar questions as cortez.i
Why did you feel the need to create new thread??
Can I remind you to read and abide by forum rules.

What is *#*#4636#*#* ??

Hi everyone @ XDA,
I just came across *#*#4636#*#* while googling for instructions on how to turn on/off 3G on the Aria. Anyways, I was surprised that dialing that number presented some information and options on the phone. I have no idea what they all mean: ie. WCDMA only, GSM only, etc) —*but you get access to some information like battery health, most used apps and others.
Anyone like to share information on this?
Which actually brings me to this question:
I've never got a 3G even though I know I live in a 3G area. I'm always getting EDGE. I believe 3G is much faster, but I also read that many people prefer EDGE due to better battery performance.
So is *#*#4636#*#* responsible to decide whether I should be getting 3G or EDGE?
Thanks everyone!

4636 spells out INFO--I just figured that out a little while ago.
I am pretty sure you would want to be on EDGE if your phone is constantly hunting for a 3G signal where none exists. Set it to GSM only to force an EDGE connection.
Also pretty handy to look at battery info, history, and the like. The rest of the stuff? No clue...

[Q] How To enable other LTE bands AT&T GS4

hello people,
i would like to enable LTE band 4 or any other faster band on my phone i am currently on LTE band 14. i i would like to switch to make it faster for all around use i know i have all the att bands in my area because i live in dallas ATT's HQ and i have looked it up.
things i have tried
1. using 4636 and then select band and nothing pops up to switch to it says (set GSM/UMTS band) thats it
2. i have flashed a differnt modem didnt work or im not doing something right
thats all i have looked it up and have followed the guides and they dont work
i was going to try to enable a T-Mobile AWS guide but i think you have to have a T-Mobile sim but idk
if you cant help that fine if you can thaks a lot
IF SOMEONE HAS SOLVED THIS ALREADY SORRY FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES I JUST CANT SEEM TO FIND TO RIGHT FIX/GUIDE
thanks,

[Q] 3G/4G or WCDMA/LTE Only

Is there anyway to get 3G and 4G only?
My question is general and i ask in name of both TouchWiz (preferably) and AOSP roms, as i havent had the option to get rid of GSM in none of them.
greets
What do you mean?
Limiting mobile network mode to 3G/4G only, meaning no GSM on it.
I know im dislectic, but i was as clear as it can get.
Anyone?

IF you have a GMS phone and on a GMS network, then that's the only signal you'll receive.
If you're on the wrong forum and/or down-load the wrong rom that'll have an effect also.
There are certain modes under Mobile Networks, many Custom ROMs feature hidden options i.e such as LTE Mode Only. What i am after is for my data never to drop on 2G. I want it strictly at 3G/4G mode only

Really? Then you get no signal if there was no 2g available. That's why no one supports your ?. If you set to lte then it will keep connecting to it if there is lte, if not it ?s to 3g and so on till 2g.
Search for an app to force lte only. If there is one, never searched.

LTE is 4g only, and I would suppose it also depends on your area and modem

Then how do I get ? when I have it set to lte, but my carrier doesn't even have lte where I live? Because it goes directly to 3g or 2g. As far as I know it doesn't stuck with lte if there is no lte.
I don't know how it works but it works.

Wow, idea, is that what you think this is, an idea? Why would someone post an idea in the, let me cite, "Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" section?
Dude, im after a solution or a workaround for an issue, and the issue does not matter to the world as long as the question is clear enough.
Your theory is incorrect as there is WCDMA mode only, which is absolutely compatible with GSM networks. The point is to never drop on 2G protocols. If you want details, ill throw tons of them, im a network engineer and i can show you anything you need from the tower perspective, my question is from the phone perspective, and that's all.
Some carriers have strict or stupid band jumps, meaning the towers are configured incorrectly to change the transmission mode (i.e you get H+ when the signal is good), so to avoid a carriers stupid mistake, i wanna limit my handset to reject 2G connections (GPRS, EDGE).
Belittling is not an option, i'm dyslectic and i try my best to make my words as less personal as possible, so please next time respond with the intention to answer the question asked and not the one you understood.

You answered your self in post #7, If there is NO LTE signal the phone will direct it self to an available signal.

Haha ? engineering and can't find a solution. Then there is no solution.
I really don't see the big deal here. A fellow XDA'er has a legitimate question on how to force or is there a way to force 3G or 4G/LTE. I too would like to know if there's a way to only force the phone to use LTE.
LTE Mode only bas been around for quite some time, so has WCDMA (3G). In fact, as you can see on the screenshot i attached a page behind, the developers of the custom Rom have made the feature available. It seems the solution is there but just not as a choice.
Generally, i've been disappointed with this section, even though i myself have critisized people for asking questions in irelevant places, this section remains highly ignored. It seems only power-users will pop around once in a while where they accidentally read a question that may've been a problem for them in the past (myself included), or a troll who thinks belittling will get them somewhere, unfortunatelly.

Kicked off of AT&T during the 3g shut down

Did anyone else get kicked off of AT&T data usage during the 3g shut down? I am able to text and make calls, but can no longer use data over 4g.
I live in the US, but have the UK firmware for the fingerprint sensor. I was wondering if I need the US firmware to use the correct 4g bands.
EDIT: posted to the wrong section sorry, if someone could move this to the Q&A section I'd appreciate that.
UPDATE: I switched back to the US firmware and my 4G LTE still has no data.
