That ROM is ext4 based. First you need to restore kernel supporting both EXT4 and RFS, then convert to rfs, then restore nandroid.
Long process (may lead to complications in case of stock incompatible kernels).
Better use odin.

Galaxy y CWM is broken. It cannot restore Kernel. It can only restore /system, /data, /cache.
For kernel restore use my SGY Toolkit. Link is in my Signature.
Press Thanks if helped.

Of course you can restore it using CWM, as long as the backup done before you change anything on your phone :good::good::good::highfive::highfive:

Do it this way.
Flash Hell's Fusion.
Go to Advanced ====> Reboot Recovery
Then Format /system, /data, /cache.
Restore Nandroid.
Then Reboot phone. (Not reboot recovery
Put stock kernel's boot.img in root of SD Card.
Go to recovery.
Then flash my SGY Toolkit and choose kernel restore.

I am using clockwork mod touch edition, and I have a full system backup using it. If I decide to flash cm9 to the device and then decide I want to switch back, can I then restore to this backup using cwm? Or do I have to flash to a stock Rom first?
Brent
u can restore using the backup u created earlier
Ok so the restore also includes the Rom backup then?
yea, that is the main purpose of recovery
Cool, thanks. Just trying to understand more about what is happening when I do these things. Cheers!
don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik cache. u should be fine

u need to be on the same kernel as u were on before...
rooting is new for me...and i am noob to root...
flash to stock rom via odin, then flash your previous rom (+kernel) via cwm, then restore your backup in cwm

use another CWM

When I install hyperion 8 pre gm and I restore my data via cwm, it always keep rebooting? Thanks for the answer
Is the data you restore made from the same ROM's backup?
Try clearing Dalvik Cache in advanced and then reboot.
My backup is from evo x rom . So it will cause problem?

The backup which you've made will restire Evo-X with all your user data. The backup is causing bootloop probably due to changed kernel or changed CWMR.

Yes, it will. What you can do is restore the whole ROM. Backup whatever you need with Titanium Backup and then restore it on your new ROM.

you cant restore data from another rom - it doesnt work like that
if you want to restore your apps and contacts and so on do the following
fully restore your nandroid backup not just the data so you do a complete restore - make sure you are on the same kernel and using the same cwm to restore the backup to which it was made on
then use titanium backup to backup all your apps
use super backup to backup all your contacts/sms
then you can flash any other rom you like
once you have done that simply restore your backups from titanium backup and super backup
both apps are available in the playstore
I'm sorry if this has been asked, but I have looked and am not able to post in the developer thread yet. I've got everything up and running on my N7 with f2fs, but I'm curious now if I update my ROM do I have to go through all the steps again? Do I always need to format data at the end and lose everything? Should I be using titanium backup to solve this? Hopefully someone can help me out.

If everything is up and running on F2FS already, you can flash and restore titanium backups as normal. You just now have to make sure the ROM and/or kernel you're flashing supports F2FS or has been converted to support F2FS.

I am already on Carbon Rom All-F2FS, should I switch to another F2FS rom, what wipes are necessary? And should I format my tab again to all F2FS?

Just do a normal clean flash like you would if you were still on ext4. No need to reformat. That's how i switched to Carbon. As far as nightlies on Carbon (or others), just dirty flash them. I've had no problems doing that.
so i made a backup of my 4.4.4 in CWM and then i upgraded to 5.0.1 and made a backup of it too in CWM but when i Restored my 4.4.4 i got stuck in a boot loop i tried removing all cache and dalvik cache but it ain't working do i have to do a full reset or does it even work to down grade via backups like this?

no, it will not, cuz all that is suppose to be in the backup you made before, just clean the system before restoring, wipe data, system, cache and dalvik, then try restoring your backup and wait at least 10 minutes, and report back, good luck cheers:fingers-crossed:

You upgrade your device to 5.0, so kitkat4.4 cwm backup didn't work 4 u bcuz ur baseband version changed with lollipop upgrade & cwm recovery is unable to backup baseband/modem.
U have to downgrade ur firmware to kitkat4.4 & then cwm backup will work.
how do i do that is it enough to just re-flash via odin will it reset to the correct modem and stuff?

Yes,after flashing correct stock firmware ( full Odin package like xxx.tar.md5) with Odin ur device become brand new: official.
U have to root it again & again install cwm recovery.
For flashing stock firmware Tutorial, search on Google.

do you know if there is a backup app that backs up all like baseband and such so i can downgrade with simple backups?
Hi, in order to restore your Android kitkat backup you need to downgrade from lollipop. In order to do that you have to flash a stock ROM (from sammobile). If your device is not locked for your service provider then it shouldn't really matter which region's ROM you flash. Then flash cwm recovery to restore your backup. If after flashing the stock ROM you enter a boot loop (and maybe not allowing you to enter download mode to flash cwm) try entering recovery mode (Power + Home + Volume Up) and factory reset your phone through the stock recovery. This should restart your phone without causing a loop. After that just flash cwm back and restore your stock backup.
Hope this helps and let me know if you need anything else.
