Is there a way to ROOT a custom KK ROM with Vanilla (AOSP ROM, like PA or CM)?
Or we just cannot ROOT 4.4 at all?
Thanks
It already rooted

There is a 110mb update available through sprint for me called ls980zv7_01_to_zv8_13. Do I need to unroot before applying this update? I don't want to brick my phone again.

That's the only way to get rid of custom recovery? Darn it took me a while to customize this phone.

Nope. It's still there. Might have to bite the bullet and revert to stock.
Anyone have any info on the update?
I tried searching real quick but didn't see anything.

What update? That's also a pretty big size for a minor update, if so, KitKat? Hey a man can only hope haha

Just found it.
Says audio enhancement and google security patch...
That doesn't add up.
They're leaving a lot out obviously.
I can't post the link on here because it changes a couple parts of the link to smiley faces.
Go here: http://support.sprint.com/support/
Select lg.
Select g2.
On the far right near the bottom under "Device Resources" select "Find and update the software version on your LG G2"

I reverted to stock to install it. Its the same android version. The software version number changed to LS980V8. Can't notice anything that is changed.
I've been stock but no update for me

Which instructions did you use to revert to stock? I'm stock rooted with twrp. I'm guessing that I need to revert back to stock recovery at the least.

I'm new to the g2 and don't know how to tell what roms are compatible with the Rogers g2. I was told that the boot.img for various d803s are different and I'm wondering how to tell if a rom is safe to flash or not. Thanks

Only install the ROM if it says it supports your model. The model number isn't just a superficial change. If you do flash it with something unsupported back everything up. EVERYTHING. Then prepare for some bricking down the road if you forget what you have done to it. I just did a full week of unbricking because my d803 got flashed by the previous owner with an ATT recovery which was somehow permitted because an unsupported ROM was flashed onto it.
Also, if you have a copy of the stock ROM on your phone… Can I have a copy?

So if it says it supports the d803 then am I good to go? And how would I go about copying the stock rom. I'm fully stock no changes.

You need to…
Root using this guide.
Install TWRP. Just use FreeGee http://bit.ly/FreeGee
Make backups. Follow this guide.
Move the backups onto your computer for safe keeping. (android file transfer software)
Then after all is said and done, you throw some roms into a rom folder that you make using android file transfer software. Reboot into the TWRP recovery and install the roms.

There's actually quite a bit now. There's Carbon, Mahdi, Paranoid Android, Beanstalk, Dirty Unicorns (running it right now and it's pretty damn good) and Hellfire KitKat. Although I had problems flashing Hellfire, so you might want to wait till the next release. :/

Hey man, I'm new like you. Yesterday I finally figured out what was the problem. You need to have TWRP 2.6.3.4 installed (you can install 2.6.3.2 and use it to flash the 2.6.3.4 zip file. I don't know why, but 2.6.3.2 won't flash 4.4 ROMS.
I'm using Paranoid Android's most recent ROM for the D803 and it's great. I use the Nova Launcher and it provides that little extra bit of customization. I removed all of the rogers bloat crap and the thing runs like a dream. No issues so far, at all.
If you need any help with anything, or with finding the .zip for TWRP 2.6.3.4 just shoot me a message and I'll see if I can help.
Good luck!
I just updated to 4.4.2 latest. Im having a hard time finding a suitable method to root this G2. Is it really there? I mean is there a method to root on 4.4.2? I can search well on this phone app :/ i need a link i will be so much thankful

Downgrade and root, then apply a upgrade zip that doesn't unroot with a custom recovery.

****, Im in the same boat as OP.
Had a rooted Jelly Bean on stock rom. Just rooted to use Adaway and Greenify.
Got the KK OTA today, installed and got ready to root again.
Damn
There is no root for 4.4.2 yet !!!
Only workarounds involving going back to 4.2.2 first.

How would you flash anything other than kdz or tot when you are on 4.4.2 and don't have root or custom recovery in the first place?

Yes, thanks to @autoprime it's finally done. I can confirm it works, did the manual method a few hours ago.
OK so my first g2 got stolen, I filed a claim and the g2 shipped to my already has the KitKat update. I know that there isn't a root method for it yet so my question is can I downgrade using the method in the development then root with the method already known? Or do I have to just wait till a method is found for KitKat?

it has step by step to go back to stock 4.2, root, get recovery and flash like I said currently that is the only way for any device to keep recovery on kk(most devices with official kk and sources have got a specific rom to do so)
I'm on stock 4.4.2 and I understand there is recovery problem. I wasn't planning on flashing a custom Rom is there is anyway to achieve root so I can remove some bloat and restore some apps from TB from my otg cable
