kernel question - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

hello everyone
i know that if i flash a kernlel unsuccessfully then i will lose my recovery mode
but i want to know if download mode will also be gone ie i wont be able to download mode
or it will open and recovery mode will not open
please reply fast/////////

download mode will still be available
the only risk to download mode is if you flash a firmware that is not meant for your phone

No problem. If you flash DDLK2 with Odin, you will not lose Download mode.
Download mode is lost means HARDEST brick.
It can happen if you mess with .pit or bootloader wrongly.
(It happened to XDA Recognized Contributor doky73 when he flashed Galaxy S2 bootloader)
(His device was never repaired)
In that case nothing can restore your phone, not even USB jig.
But JTAG may repair your device.

well
even when i flash stock rom via odin i only choose pda,csc and phone options
one question how can we check whether a rom contains bootloader
i mean are there other files in such a rom other than system meta-inf and data

If on PC, use WinRAR/Winzip/7zip to open and check ROM.zip
If on phone use Root Explorer. (Simply click the ROM.zip)
If it contains META-INF, system, data (and/maybe) boot.img, (and/maybe) busyboxinstall it is safe.
# HERE BY SAFE I MEAN MAXIMUM IT CAN SOFT BRICK YOUR DEVICE, WHICH IS RECOVERED BY ODIN.
Bootloader is not replaced by Flashable zip in Galaxy y. So forget about it.
Bootloader is only replaced by odin.
*** I TELL YOU, DO NOT MESS WITH BOOTLOADER OR .PIT***
Result is hard-bricked device, not recoverable by Odin, USB Jig. Not recovered also by JTAG.
You must have to see those charming(!!!!!) Samsung Care Guys (Pun intended ) to repair such device.

Bricked Your Phone, Post Here !

This Thread Is For Them Who Bricked There Phones
Don't start a new thread for your bricked phone & post here.
We will help you with every possible solutions.

Here are some quick tips :
(Here I'll use the terms like Download-Mode & Recovery-Mode, If you dont know what are they please click here. There "BOOT to RECOVERY" & "BOOT to BOOTLOADER" means how to enter into Recovery-Mode & Download-Mode respectively.)
A Bricked Phone May Have One or More (Below Problems) :
1. Booting to the ROM(Android) not possible.
2. Booting to the Recovery-Mode not possible.
3. Black screen or Bootloop(Repeated Restarting of Phone at Boot Animation or Samsung Galaxy Y Logo).
Possible Solutions :
(Remember there'll be data loss using these solutions so always try to keep a backup)
1. If you can still enter into Recovery-Mode
(a). Try to clear Data & Cache then check.
(b). Try Installing a Custom ROM using CWM(ClockWorkMod Recovery) & check.
(For Custom ROM & CWM Visit here.)
2. If Recovery-Mode didn't helped Enter into Download-Mode & flash an odin supported stock rom(using ODIN 1.84 or 1.85) from Doky73's Thread(Flashing Guide in 2nd post).
*You can inform me, if anything left out.
Note :
1. I'll be not held responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
2. Before posting try to search for similar type problems out there & try the solution, if that doesn't solve your problem then post here.
Make this a sticky.. there are many users who say that their phone is bricked
help! bricked SGY
galaxy y bricked
i bricked my sgy last 3 weeks.
here's what i did.
-installed creedsix rom.
-installed UOT kitchen Themes.
-wipe data
problem
-stuck in bootlogo
-softbricked.
-cant go to recovery mode
-flashed too many times, still stuck in bootloop
i flashed at least 20 times, with different firmwares.
but still no luck, still boot lop.
my professor said something about secondary bootloader that might help. but i had definitely no idea what it is.
i asked some techies on the mall, and they said that this phone must undergo the JTAG process. but it cost $20.
help me. thanks.

From where you got the firmwares.... How you flashed...
Ever tried re partitioning.... Ever flashed boot loader....
For info... Jtag or boundary-scan is used for testing & servicing high technology electronic boards...

this one will a little bit off topic...what is creedsix?is it a rom for SGY?
if the phone still can boot that means everything is fine. pull out the battery, wait 10 seconds, reinsert the battery, do three magic combo button, you'll enter recovery mode. don't worry about our bootloader. our bootloader is stored in different partition thus installing any custom rom won't affect our bootloader. as far as i know, there is only one person who have messed up with bootloader and got an ultimate hard brick.

is it possible repair hard brick ..... what is hard brick... if device hard brick device gos life time dead ??

a hard brick is when our device doesn't respond to power button.
the guy that I've mentioned above is doky73. he accidentally flash a bootloader for sgs2 into his sgy. last time he said that he send his sgy to samsung service center and buy a new one. I'm not sure if samsung has revived his sgy.
edit: I didn't to offend him but I think I've mispelled doky's username. edited.

whatever It may be... You should never mess up with bootloaders, if you don't actually know what's there significance...
Brief description on android starting process :
pbl(primary boot loader "boot.bin") executes first and then it executes sbl ...
Sbl(secondary boot loader "sbl.bin") is responsible for responding to combos...download mode.. Intercepting odin commands..... booting system...booting kernel.... Charging your battery while switch off... Etc etc
Harm anyone of them... And Your phone goes into lifetime hibernation, Hard-bricked.

Hi to all, it's only my second post but i have a major problem with my samsung s-5360. it's won't boot anymore, but it can enter cmw and recovery. This is what i did wrong i believe. At first i installed morocs 1.8 kernel on creed fusion version 3.1 and it wouldn't boot anymore, so i ended up using a back-up i made before with cmw. And it worked well and phone was booting again and was on stock again. ( because back-up was made with stock-version obviously )
Then i thought: well let's try repensis noob version. And installed it and there was also an update 2 and installed it over it as well before booting the os, maybe this is what i did wrong dunno .. But afterwards it didn't boot anymore and whatever i tried, restoring one of the 3 images i made, or using one of the roms posted here like Creed fusion 3.1 rom or Aurora 2 nor Chobits didn't work.
I also tried reverting to stock with odin 1.85 but when i connected my phone via usb to the pc, odin didn't see my phone. ( after selecting the 3 tar files in odin ) Maybe i'm doing wrong something there.
What i also have to add is that when doing factory wipe in recovery it says formatted E: but unable to format E:\dev10 and dev11. clearing cache is no problem and also cleared dalvik cache. Can you please help me out ? I know, it sounds very noobish but well, i have to face it because can't do it myself without help anymore it seems ... Thanx a lot in advance.
please make sure that you've installed the driver and plug the usb to computer only on download mode when flash with odin. dev10 and dev11 are the partition for data and cache. that error means something was wrong with your recovery mode. you'll need to install a fresh stock rom with odin.

to be precise: the guy was Doky73...
I was playing with different revisions of SBLs because on SGS2 some old SBL gives the possibility to reset custom bin counter via JIG. At a given point accidentally browsed SGS2 bootloader instead of SGY one...
But I did perfect job, the service center wasn't able to detect the cause of bricking, but they recovered my phone under warranty. (I think they're not reading this forum )

No one is gonna give you their EFS, as it contains their IMEI data.. and besides, you don't need an EFS back up, reflash your stock firmware via Odin before you do anything and make sure you have the correct file. Then turn your phone OFF and read every single stickie thread about how to flash/root etc or you WILL end up with a beautiful Samsung paperweight due to yourself not taking the time to understand how these devices actually work.
If you can reach download mode, you can get into recovery, you have READ how to do this correct?? - If not, I suggest you go do so.

If your EFS folder is deleted/corrupted and you can`t recover it (backup) you need a new motherboard with a new EFS folder. You can`t transfer EFS files from other phones as stated here allready.

Not strictly true, the Note 3 has an inbuilt feature where it can auto build the EFS using a fire script (as used by many including myself by firassuman) also if that fails THIS has been proven to work.

Samsung have done one thing right lol, made their devices virtually unbrickable and (easily) recoverable for once, so all is not bad with them really.
EDIT: Yes works OK with KK also as far as I am aware

[Q] Galaxy Young Startup with Red screen of death

Hi, i would like to find a way to fix a red screen problem.
A year ago i had a black screen and fixed it, used that solution for the red one but doesn't work.

I originally used Qualcomm NV Tools to read the SPC Code,
then i went into ADB shell & did su + setprop ril.MSL 123456, it worked fine, and the phone started good, but still no MSL / SPC Code, also used MSL Reader but didn't work. Also it didn't ask for root permissions.

Then here problems come. A red screen of death appears.
I tried using my USB Jig (even if download mode works without) to put the phone in download mode,
it worked, then connected to the computer using its original USB cable, before using Odin.
I though there could be a difference between "Factory" and "Odin" mode.
Used Odin version is 3.07 : The one that comes with "T Flash, Flash Lock, Nand Erase All".

I thought it was an efs problem. But how could i flash efs if totoro.pit comes with an EFS partition that doesn't have an img file? (the --11 Entry EFS without Image flash name).
I used PIT Magic (part of EFS Pro) to insert "efs.rfs" in Flash Name + FOTA, saved the file.
Click to collapse
I checked re-partition and selected the totoro.pit file, i also've written "PhoneEnable=1" in Odin3.ini to use Phone Bootloader Update feature.
I inserted the Bootloader, PDA, Modem, & CSC Files. I checked Phone Bootloader Update.
The flash was fine, & efs.rfs (my most recent EFS backup image) flashed correctly into phone's.
Click to collapse
But the phone still shows the red screen. I think the red screen is caused by "setprop ril.MSL 123456",
as i used qualcomm NV Tools many times and phone always worked fine.
Click to collapse
The efs partition is usually not mountable in a galaxy y
Remove the sd card from your phone
Go into download mode
Flash the firmware from my firmware thread (links in my signature)
Never flash a pit file or bootloader - if you choose the wrong one you will brick your phone as you have discovered
If you can't successfully boot the phone after that you will have to flash the correct bootloader via a jtag - if you don't have one goto a repair shop as they cost about £200 UK pounds
If after that it still doesn't work might have to replace motherboard but you might as well put the money towards a new phone
Hi marcussmith2626,
I flashed Bootloader in the s5360 ODD package and used totoro.pit file

I took an hex editor and started the phone in download mode,
i took totoro.pit and added cal.bin under 'cal' partition name, and flashed custom pit.
(restarted and made a custom odin package with this cal.bin).
then i sent my latest cal backup (call this EFS Backup) and sent to device my cal.bin inside TAR file.
Then the phone restarted without problems.
Do you have an EFS (in fact cal) backup of your phone?
It's the bml15 block of your device. :good:

1st Question, I bought my G530H from a Telco Company and when you turn ON the phone it has a Telco animation boot... does this method can remove that also? because it's sucks...
2nd Question, My phone is rooted, does this method will remove it? or any files and messages? because It sounds like It would reformat my phone....
THanks in advance!

I dont know whether it would remove the boot animation or not.. But theoretically speaking.. It should.
And yeah. It will remove the root. But It wont delete anything on your device. But it is always preferred to do a factory reset before flashing a new firmware. Or you might run into some problems later.
So, If you are planning on flashing it, Be sure to backup everything before you do. Precaution is better than regret.

That's great if the boot animation will removed but if the root is removed then if I root it again, I think the auto-recovery mode could happen again. Is there other method of rooting this device?

No. There aint any other method. But some people who installed the custom recovery after rooting didnt suffer this problem. Maybe installing custom recovery can end it.

I'll try installing custom recovery... but I'll still proceed flashing new stock rom to remove the boot animation...
currently I'm backing up my new user+system apps and newer versions... I should paste it to my computer right?
can't I just restore my root just by restoring my back ups?

I'm from the Philippines and I bought it here but the baseband version is not match from my country...
PH(Open Line)-G530HDCU1AOA2
My phone is G530HXCU1AOA2
Should it be the same version?
If that's the case what should I install then?

Be sure to make App backup by using titanium backup. Thats the best app for backing up apps.
I have no Idea. I had kazhkistan firmware before. And Now I have indian firmware. Even though I am not from any of these countries. It worked for me at least. So, since you have the same 530H. Theoretically It should work for you too. I dont know.:silly:

Help! Galaxy tab 4 8.0 hardbricked boot

Hi, this is the first threat i make (if something is wrong please moderators correct me )
Im doing this on tab 4 8.0 T331 3g version
Okay i'll begin explaining how did i get to the tablet totally useless by only being recognized with the sound when connects but nothing more.
I was trying ot restore my EFS.img via terminal emulator, i found a short tutorial where it said that only doing this: dd if=/storage/sdcard/efs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=4096
well once i did that it said: write error: no space left on device
well i said, doesnt matter, maybe a reboot will fix it... nope. it didnt. it just went black screen and never turn back on, so i was in the QHSUSB_BULK and it never installed the drivers, so i downloaded qualcomm drivers and installed, but now it doesnt even recognize my device, tried uninstalling driver and it didnt helped.
so i was looking for solutions and found that famous ATF tool, and found the "debrick" SDC for my tablet but i cant install it to my sdcard because i dont have the box that does that. so i decided to find any "sdc to img" converter so i can place it to my sd card and try to boot my tab, i couldnt find anything that could do that.
so, what i need? a debrick.img that anyone can take out from its tab 4 t331, i've read that it can be done with this: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407577222
i quote: "its a debrick img creator hosted by Surge (thanks) hopefully this one will work"
it can be flashed via recovery and it takes out a debrick.img, if someone can upload that for me, i would make a bootable sd card with it so i can place it on my tab and then i can re flash it with odin.
If i can get it to work i will make the tutorial so everyone can be advised to avoid this problem
Thanks in advanced
anyone? i cant believe that no one has this device, i need only a debrick image, please

i cant go to any service center because there are not here in my city.... this is why in trying to take out a debrick image, or a boot from other t331 so i can flash it in my sd card and with it boot my tab... thats a simple procedure that can be done with any samsung qualcomm based device, two threads back i gave a link to a video where a senior member of xda shows this on a galaxy s5, so thats the only thing i need
