[Q] Superuser and SuperSU conflicting - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I've been running into some issues with Superuser and SuperSU while running the CM11 nightlies. I restore all of my apps using the built-in Superuser from CM11, and then I go into SuperSU to update the binary (I want to use SuperSU as my main Root app) and update the binary successfully. All is well, but then it seems that Superuser will then take over as my main root app and then I need to continuously update the SuperSU binary.
Does anybody have any idea why SuperSU is not sticking as my root app, or how to "disable" Superuser?

[Q] Root Keeper or SuperSU Survival Mode

Hi I have a rooted Nexus 7 and wanted to keep root when updating. I already have SuperSU and wanted to know what is the best way to keep root when updating. Should I use SuperSU Survival mode or download Root Keeper to keep root?
Are there any conflicts having/using both at the same time? Any advice or info on this would be great.
Thanks

All I can tell you is Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper has worked great for me. Restored root with no problems after 4.2 update.
On my system - however - root causes lag on multi-user that makes it unusable, even with updated SuperSU.
So I am back to being temporarily unrooted because multi-user is more important to me than root.
Just install the latest CWM recovery
It gives you the option to fix the permissions of the su binary after installing an update so you can keep root.

Well funny thing - su works fine for primary user. Only goes ape on creating or using secondary user.
Over and over, asks if /system/bin/id can have superuser permission. 20 minutes to create a secondary user...

Hmm I didn't experience anything like that, but I only played with multi-user for a few minutes then I deleted the secondary user.

I am running the stock ROM as i want to receive the updates and have the standard google recovery and do not have CWM installed. My bootloader is unlocked and rooted that's it. I am not using multiuser on my Nexus 7. I think I'll use Root Keeper and keep SuperSU survival mode off.

I'm also running the stock ROM, and updates have worked fine with CWM recovery so far.
I believe it is compatible with the stock recovery.

Really, can you have a custom recovery like Clockwork manager or TWRP and still receive OTA updates?

When I get brave - and bored - I will try uninstalling / reinstalling SuperSU again.
For right now, I am just a happy tablet user.

[Q] Changing Superuser

Hi
I have been using clockworkmod superuser on stock 4.3 with no problems. However I have just flashed a new kernel and am now getting the message that the SU binaries are out of date. I have tried re-flshing the superuser.zip with CWM but still have the same message and of course no root. Is it possible to replace superuser with the latest supersu and see if that gets my root back. If so how I do it and will I then be able to unistall the clockwork superuser app once supersu is up and running.
Thanks
Andy.

By that do you mean it replaces the superuser that is currently installed or adds it as an additional app. Sorry for the confusion but still a little confused with the various methods of obtaining root with the various superusers etc.

go to the play store, download supersu, then open it after install. when it asks you to update your binaries, do it. or, try downloading supersu again(maybe it was a bad download), and flash it again.

root and superSU

I was updating superSU on my note 3 after root. I tried to use game killer, only to get the message that root wasn't available. I loaded up superSU and was told that the binary couldn't be found... I downloaded a root checker and it said that root access was there... So I unrooted and re rooted. Same deal.
I'm not sure how to fix the issue.
Can anyone please help

When I first got the phone it had a rom full of provider bloatware. I flashed another stock Roma to get rid of it. Then I flashed xnote and decided OT wasn't for me, so I went back to stock (without bloats)

Delete the apps from SU then when prompted give them permission again - like normal you will need to re-open them again and get the "Grant root access" prompt from SU...This may work, has for me everytime...
Only other thing I would do if this didn't work would be re-stock and start from scratch...

I have already reflashed stock back to my phone, re rooted and the problem still exsists
Currently I'm on stock again (downloaded from sammobile)
Every time I open superSU, it tells me there is a problem with the SU BINARY (when I was rooted. I'm not trying to use super SU unrooted lol)
Just rooted again and its still the same...
Reflash stock, full wipe from stock recovery, reroot.
Or u have done a full wipe from stock recovery after flash stock firmware?

Yeah, done all of that. Is there a way to manually wipe the SU binary and reinstall? The root checker app says root access is allowed
Is there another way to see if it's the SU binary or game killer having issues?

If you attempts to fix root access denied on game killer then it won't work. Gamekiller/gamecih/gameguardian doesn't work with android 4.3 and above.
I however tried gamecih with cm based rom last week & it worked

Its not a superSU issue, guess the dev needs to update the gamekiller app. Do you have root privileges with other root apps?

Try unrooting superSU from the app itself and reflash the latest (1.94 i think) superSU.zip in recovery or with Flashify (if compatible ,Playstore) flash CF Root in downloadmode. Hope that helps.

ES explorer can't get root access either.
Should I flash superSU.zip straight over the top using recovery? Or is that not a good idea?

AAhh i see. Now i know where you are standing at. you are using magisk. But do you have magisksu ? or keep having supersu as main root but magisk installed? . What i mean to say is, when you go into the magisk app, in the 2nd box of the main screen, does it shows supersu as root method? or magisksu? if it is magisksu then you dont need supersu, now, if it does says supersu, then you do have to fix the issue of supersu to unroot by using supersu function and then go directly into recovery mode and flash magisksu once again.
It says majisksu

then you dont need su (unless you want it). It is because you already have magisksu (which is pretty much doing the same as su). one overrides the other and then one gets thrown out. Usually to install magisk manually, one does as follows:
1) install magisk app from playstore
2) give supersu access (granted to magisk su)
3) use unroot function in supersu
4) flash magisk zip in recovery mode.
Now, there are other methods to achieve magisksu but the point is that maisksu has changed the binary (which is what SuperSU is telling you that you dont have). But that doesnt mean you are not rooted. you are already rooted with magisk and can achieve pretty much anything that you could achieve with supersu. (it will ask you for prompts asking you whether you want to give su access to "x" or "y" app. etc... Now, if you want SuperSU, you could try to flash the magisk uninstaller. Then do the process of rooting that has been specified for your phone. That should return the SU binary to normality . (this assuming you try to unroot and then flash SU back but didnt work)
hey guys bought my ls997 used. has root because i get the flash screen (untrusted)and twrp is installed and working. how do i find out which to flash ? any advantages to use supersu over magisk ?
i installed magisk manager and it states no root found.
Majisk u have to turn root access on majisk works alot better
