How can I stop the VZW update? I have been on Eclipse for a few weeks and I went back to stock and it will not stop OTA updating... Any help is appreciated. I dont want to loose root/recovery etc.
Freeze or disable MotorolaOTA.
A quick search would've given you the same answer...

Also you can put it on Airplane mode to stop the download so you can root or freeze the 3c_ota.apk if you had just went back to stock.

Stock rooted Deodexed/Odxed NE5 ROM Thanks to @CNexus
It's rolling out to users as we speak! If you get the OTA please grab it for us (I forget the location of it) and upload it so we can sideload it.

Sounds like the next build of RDDT and/or RODT will have some wi-fil calling, should fix all these non-compatability issues you've been having Joe!

I had a feeling it'd be the WiFi calling update!
If someone can pull the update file name, I believe the rest of the URL will read like this:
ttp://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/sprint_samsung_g900p/INSERTFILENAMEHERE.zip
I couldn't even check for it. I clicked 'check now for update' and got a message saying that my OS has been modified in an unauthorized way, lol. I've never seen that before. Usually I can at least download an OTA.
Did anyone get the update yet?

Are you rooted, or did you switch to ART from dalvik runtimes?
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Yea just rooted and stock. Haven't switched to ART
I was rooted and had custom rom...
I ended up odin back to stock and still got the modified error with no root. I looked in about and saw my baseband was ncb, and my software was ncd, so you might wanna check that. Also I read someplace that knox software disabled can throw the modified error also

Based on what you said I replaced the insertfilename.zip with the version id G900PVPU1ANE5 and got a 404 error. I did include the H that was missing from the address as well.

Ha ha. No, no, no. The name will be complex and have lots of random letters in it. That's why we need someone to pull the actual name they get with their OTA.

I did the same. You just have to repeat the process one more time and it should work. But the Ota isn't available for me yet

I don't think it would be good to update your phoen with it rooted but you could always try and if it messes up you have a community of developers/users here to help you!

You would also likely loose root if it does work. I'm not sure cause I don't use stock. I'm running cloudy g2 3.3 and it runs perfect and fast.
I recently flashed the RENOVATE rom on my new device.
After doing this no apps installed from the play store work at all. Will crack the phone and force close.
Just wondering if anyone has a download for the original firmware for the S7 Edge?
That's why you use twrp and backup your previous system. Or else download firmware from sammobile.com or Samsung updates.

Oops. There is no such thing as a generic original firmware. First you need to identify your model. From there, your CSC. Then you can grab an appropriate firmware.
For starters, do you own an Exynos or Snapdragon device?

Horse has already bolted.
Not much point advising a backup after the event, is there?

Hi everyone,
I have just bought a refurbished S7 edge from eBay and it turns out it is an American AT&T handset. It is unlocked and works with my GiffGaff Sim card but I have a few questions I'm hoping y'all could help me with (joke - I'm not American!)
The phone is full of AT&T bloatware and other stuff, can I get rid of it so that I have a clean, unaffiliated phone? I would rather not root it if possible as I'm not really that tech savvy.
Certain features, such as WiFi calling, don't work as they require a live AT&T account, which I don't have. Can I bypass this?
The other thing I'm worried about is whether or not I'll be able to receive any OTA updates? It feels a bit like I'm in limbo with this phone!
Thanks.
There's a guide here to install g935u firmware. I did it and it has zero bloatware. Also I'm in Ireland and the at&t firmware wasn't getting 4g in a lot of places, but with the u firmware I get it everywhere I would with a European handset.

Great, hopefully all is not lost. Thanks for your help.
G935U firmware works fine outside USA, except it seems doesnt have Wifi Call.
I am using an unlocked S7Edge AT&T variant with 935U firmware in Hong Kong for three months
everything works fine.
That's interesting to know, thanks. What about OTA updates, can you receive them?

Ota updates work fine. Don't really need WiFi calling. Well I don't use it anyway. Phone runs 20 times faster. At&t bloatware really slows phone down.

Thank you I am going to try this right now
Lets say for example you use one of the existing tutorials to unlock the bootloader and root a Nokia 5 running on Nougat, is it possible to then upgrade to Oreo (Or Pie when it rolls out) while keeping the root/unlock? Usually phones don't accept updates when they detect they've been rooted, or the update will remove the root, something like that.
Note that I don't own this phone, I just like to know things before I get mine.
You can root with android 8 but can't upgrade from 7 to 8
Check my tut. https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-5/how-to/root-nokia-5-android-8-1-t3831303 for rooting android 8
---------- Post added at 12:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 PM ----------
Also notice that i you OTA to 8 whẹn having twrp installed, you will get stuck in recovery

What happens if the Pie update rolls out and I update? Will it brick my phone? And if it does, how can I update my phone?

What are you saying? You CAN upgrade from 7 to 8 as long as your bootloader is unlocked and you're using stock recovery. However you will have to root again after upgrading, since the upgrade process will overwrite your root
Oh and sometimes you may brick your phone and have to flash ost

When Pie rolls out you wait for the new method of rooting the phone.
