[Q] Couple of questions regarding PAC ROM - PAC Q&A

Hi Everyone !
So I am really new to the world of custom ROMS and want to install one on my s3 (SGH i747). After a bit of shopping around, I really like PAC Rom.I have the following questions and would really appreciate it if someone could answer them:
1) Is there a guide for dummies like me that can walk me through the installation process ?
2) Is PAC ROM stable ? How do I update it if there are updates ? Is it good for a first time user ?
3) In this ROM, can I customise the notification area ? Like make the notification area and panel transaprent like in the stuff in IOS 7 ?
4) Will restoring from titanium backup interfere in anyway ?
Thanks for all your help !

Hi
1) It is like every other ROM, you just factory reset and install the zip
2) I use it on my nexus 4 and yesterday, when I received a call I was unable to get it. If you don't care about that you can try PAC ROM but cyanogenmod must be better for you
3) Yes, you can like on cyanogenmod. I'm note sure about what you mean but the notification bar is transparent like on every Kitkat based ROM
4) I don't know I never use titanium

There isn't PAC ROM for your phone, you will have to choose one of those made for your phone. You can find them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839
If I was you I would choose Omni ROM

You're right, I didn't see it,I just searched "i747" on the PAC ROM website so I couldn't find your phone. So I recommend you this PAC ROM and not the Omni ROM
I just installed the last update of PAC ROM on my nexus 4 and the phone calls work well

New Galaxy Tablet 7.0 - want to root it.

Just picked up a new galaxy tablet 7.0 (8GB) about a week ago. Great device so far and love it. I just can't stand the preloaded bloatware on the device and the space its taking up. It's currently running version 4.0.4
I've read up a bit up on ROMS and rooting the device. Seem pretty comfortable with it just have a few questions.
1) Do I need an SD card in the device in order to root it?
2) Best rom out there? Appears like the most talked about rom is the Cyanogen Mod 10?
No you don't need an SD Card but you may as well get one as you will need it once you start making nandroid back ups. Your tab fill up quickly ! Not to mention media and apps on top of that as well. Bigger the better to be honest.
No such thing as the best ROM, Once you are rooted try them all out and find one that suits your needs. I love AOKP M1( link in my sig) as you can customize it more than CM10 and has better features IMO.
If you dont want to customize it , try a deodexed stock based ROM with all the bloat removed, ROMSWELL makes some cool ROMS. Search the DEV section of this forum.
As i said its a personal choice , so flash them and try them out. Wont cost you anything apart from some time..... If you need help just ask and someone will give you some advice. Don't forget to flash some GApps ( Goggle Applications) as they are not normally included in a ROM due to copyright issues.
Most of all have fun.
Oh id go for a JellyBean based ROM , nothing wrong with ICS , just the latest version out (4.2 is around the corner as well with some cool new stuff )

Thanks for the info! So the 4.0.4 is not jelly bean but its ICS?
How can I not download Jelly bean.. when I try to do an update it says its the most recent one..
I did see that some ROMS allow you to OC the device, so squeezing that extra little juice out of it I wouldn't mind either
Yeah you're trying to update "stock" and its not been released as yet to the general public.....So flash a custom ROM (once you have root)
Once you root , forget about Samsung updates as they wont work any more, But the XDA community devs do that for us much quicker than Samsung does !
Heres a rough guide from Codeworkx (CM10)
First time installing CyanogenMod 10 to your Galaxy Tab 2, or coming from another ROM:
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM10 ZIPs to your internal SDCard ( or the external SD Card )
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM10 zip from internal SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from internal SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET
- Reboot

The ROM you are running is Ice Cream Sandwich, comes as a "stock" standard on our tabs, CM10 and AOKP are both JellyBean, Some other customs ROMs are as well. Both are under/over-clockable and both can use custom kernels as well. Both VERY stable and have very good support threads by the devs that compiled them.
How to ROOT your Tab
ClockWorkMod recovery
CM10
AOKP
More ROMs for our Tabs

Thanks for your help! Great info there. Are any of these ROMS more complex than the other? I just don't want to get into it too deep or too complex and having more of a issue getting things up and running properly or are these all the same complexity when installed? ie.. customization etc..
Aokp is very similar to CM based ROMs. They are as easy to set up as a stock ROM, only they allow for more tweaks than a factory ROM. The only thing that you have a to do with a custom rom is flash gapps(Google apps) usually in the rom thread. Read, reread, and grow a pair. The fear will turn into a high that draws you in. There is a reason that the term crack-flashing was born. It is very simple to do it on this tablet. If you have any trouble pm me, or post here, and I will walk you through it. I just did it a couple of days ago for my daughters. Good luck

At first try stable roms like AOKP JB milesone 1
As JeramyEggs said , just jump in and get wet ! They are all pretty much the same , I just prefer AOKP as I can customize it a little bit more than the others. I really dont like the way CM10 handles the navigation bar , where as AOKP lets you do as you wish to it. And I like the toggles it uses as well.
Dump stock what ever you do, Dont get me wrong I love the Samsung stock ROMs as they look stunning and the widgets are top class. The music/video players are quality. You will also gain some space on your tab as well. Stock ROMs are around 750MB and custom ROMs are normally under 200MB
Stock has no theme engine as such , that means if you want to change the way it looks ( other than wallpapers) you will have to start decompiling some system .apks ( Applications ) and it gets a tad tricky messing with .xmls.and getting it all working again.
With the theme engine in place you have 100s of themes to choose from ( over 500 in fact) and plenty of mods you can flash as well, You can even edit themes either online or on your PC with some XDA made applciations ( I use "tickle my android" personally to make themes / Edit apks like widgets n stuff )
CM10/AOKP are always being updated ( But AOKP has stopped development for the moment as I mentioned above , until 4,2 is ported) CM10 has a preview build out already. Both ROMs have a ROM control option to pimp your device up as well.
If you look through this thread , you can see most of the main ROMs and what we all do with them.
I tend to flash most of the new ROMs just to try them out. When I'm done messing around with it all I do is boot into recovery and restore my nandroid back up and I'm back to the way I was .Its kinda like system restore on a Windows PC.
Get stuck on anything , just ask as most of the forum members are all pretty cool and more than willing to help out.
My advice is......GO FOR IT !!11!!!1 What you got to lose ?

Reading some of this stuff I am overwhelmed. So in order to backup the device up I need to root it first?
I will start with the HOW TO ROOT YOUR TAB thing now and see how far I get..
So I started last night and let's say didn't get very far. Downloaded the neccessary files but for some stupid reason the Kies software (needed to install this to get the drivers installed for the tablet so I can transfer the contents to it) was not installing.
I left my laptop on during the night and it never finished installing the software. I obtained it right from the Samsung Support website.
Any idea what could be causing this?
Also, once I do get this software installed so that the device shows up under Windows Explorer so I can drag the neccessary .zip files to it. Is there a specific location on the device I should place the files on? I do not currently have a SD card in the tablet.
Oh and my device model is a GT-P3113
So I managed to install Kies.. Guess it was getting hung up on .NET framework 4. So I just downloaded and installed myself and then tried the Kies thing and it went right through the install.
So now I should be good to actually see the device in Windows Explorer once I plug it in.
My question still remains, any particular spot on the device I need to place the .zip files for rooting?

Anywhere you can easily find the tar.md5 file on your windows drive, the*cwm-root-gtab2.zip goes to*/mnt/extSdCard which is the root, don't place in a file. I rooted mine via http://rootzwiki.com/topic/25228-how-to-rooting-gt-p3113-step-by-step-updated-07182012/

Okay.. so /mnt/extSdCard is if you have a SD card in the device.
But I do not have a SDcard, that is why i am actually asking does it matter where I place the files within the tablet internal storage due to not having a micro sd card.

Well, do your own research. There is a table of contents in the 7" dev forum, go read the rooting method there and also in the general section. Also, I'm not responsible for what others post and, you can ask the other guy how he rooted his without an sd. I recommend reading about rooting before doing it. I will say this is the easiest device to root.
So I managed to root the device. Was pretty straight forward once I got going. I installed AOKP milestone 1 rom as per someones suggestion here saying it's stable. Overall it does look nicer now and smoother only a couple of questions.
1) I took a backup or the stock stuff before doing anything after performing the root. Now I noticed all the data is gone lol.. Is there anyway to get the data back? Mainly the game progress and all the other stuff?
2) I see AOKP has a theme function under it's settings, currently there is only 1 listed. Where does one obtain themes for it? It's not in the Play Store, is it?
3) Saw the overclocking option also, does that mean the overclock can be pumped up to 1200mhz?
Guess my main question now is whether or not I can get that data back lol..
If you performed a factory reset after flashing your custom ROM, which you should have anyway, I'm sorry to say you have lost your data.

Sure did.. Oh well now I'll know at least and look into the actual backup apps to backup game progress.
The .zip files I put on the table prior to rooting, like fix-recovery, the clockwork mod file as well as the actual ROM, can those be removed off the tablet now?
I played around a bit last night and I found the THEME Choose on the Play Store and I saw themes.

Customise navigatiob bar w/o Custom ROM ?

Hi,
Is it possible to customise the navigation bar (get PIE controls, reduce the size) without changing ROM ?
Thanks.
why'd you wanna do that. you would need to take inferior stuff and dork around with hacks and exploits. if you go that route dont pride yourself running stock afterwards, it'll be a patchy mess, far away from a polished experience.
to some extend i can appreciate whats possible with hacks - but i wouldnt be able to cope with the patchyness of it.
but yeah, the pie thing is lmt. and the navbar thing is a mod you find on xda - you get to choose fixed sizes that you can flash. both is stone age compared to what you could do with integrated solutions.

I'm on stock rom, but rooted. I use HideBar: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.ppareit.hidebar . Works well on the phones with a navigation bar, but was originally written for tablets. The developer has recently received a Nexus 4, so we can expect some love for our phones.
Thanks for your replies, I guess I will have to install PA, I didn't want to install a custom ROM because flashing Gaaos with recovery after each PA update is very anoying (is it the same with CM ?), and also Stock version et the updates first !
How long it takes for PA and CM to add the stock updates to their ROMs please ?

It's strange because with my Motorola Defy, when I installed a new update of CM10, I never had to reinstall Gaaps, only the first time...
Reinstalling Gaaps after each updates of PA or CM is only because of the Nexus 4 ?
I think you get something wrong there. "Reinstalling" means literally one more tap in twrp or cwm. You dont have to set them up again, you just do that tap and its done. It has gapp backup, so not even that tap is needed, but not sure if its unlocked already.

It's in the phone settings.. On the main settings page I wanna say it was Paranoid Settings or ROM Control right in that area there's a ROM Tweak option to set it from phone to tablet UI. You just need to go there and switch it back to phone.. When you find it there's very bright colors looks kinda like legos... Like the menu within that setting is set up in rectangular brightly colored boxes.. I hope that makes sense.. I just flashed from PAC 20.0.1 (I think that's his latest for Glacier) back to Gingerbread so I can use wifi calling.. Sorry I'm not able to say exactly what the setting is with 100% confidence..
The phone is NOT bricked.. It's just a simple setting.
yeah dude read some instructions and check few pictures before you flash something

Hi bro,
I think I had found the reason.
I tried to flash stock kernal and turn on my mobile data.
The phone not restart anymore. I wait for 30 minutes and nothing happen.
To double confirm I tried to flash lean kernal and turn on my mobile data.
Just within 1 minutes my phone started again.
Before this I do not facing this problem since using this rom for more than 1 month.
I think maybe because now I'm at my hometown and my mobile data is not very stable, that is why when I use lean kernal, it keep restarting when my mobile data is weak/unstable.
Anyway, thanks for your help bro.
Really appreciate it.
P/S : can u recommend any good kernal besides lean kernal. Thanks.

I'm Using a long time Lean Kernel and I never had any problems. however, another good kernel, is the Civz Xplorer that you can find in OTA

Pierdebeer,
i say that i like your rom its verry vast and stable.
I only find it stupid that there is an option for update the rom but there is no support for OTA.
Why is then that option for? (its only that thing what i not understand)
I am dutch speaking so is dificult to explane it right in english.
Dont want to break off your great rom because it is GREAT.
Do you have solution for my other qwestions?

Audax Rom 11.0 cannnot set screen lock to pin or password.
I can set it to Signature but it unmounts the SD card. When I try to set it to pin it doesn't work and unmounts the Sd card, password doesn't work at all... One more little problem with the rom is the Particle Effect doesn't show in the lockscreen settings. Under the Unlock effect there are only water color and ripple... By the way I have to tell you that I updated from 10.9 without wiping... Thank you...

For Signature...upload the Modem.
to set particle effect, select none.
But it works only with SWIPE lockscreen
Update - version 10.9 - Audax OTA
dear friend,
I saw your excellent ROM is at version 11, and I have installed on my note 3 to version 10.9. I tried to update the version update via the system (native application from ROM) and appears as "there are no updates possible." How do I upgrade to the ROM 11 without losing customizations you've done?

Download from OP. Flash Rom without choose wipedata on Aroma installer.
You not loose your app and data, only reactivate framework on xsposed installer.
how's the battery performance, any setting to extend battery life with this ROM?
S-Voice and AudaxRom 11
Hi Everybody, I've just installed audaxrom on my note 3 snapdragon, it seems working fine, but I've a single troubleshooting on svoice: the app doesn't wake up by tapping twice the home button although in svoice settings i've flag the wake-up option.
any solution ?
very compliments to pierdebeer for his work

i have what you see in the pic above. i have not tried/tested any of them out so dunno what each is capable of. i can share whichever you want...
if you can post a working link of the aokp_xt908_jb-mr2_unofficial_2013-12-04 and pz version i would appreciate as i am unable to find a working fw with those features, aokp is one of the few that i did not try as i was unable to find any working links to download it.

Sent you a PM as well
Also, you might need to flash GSM fix along with the ROM
i installed it an its highly customisable and works really perfect with bt without freezeing like the other fw do
3 points
1) its version is 4.3.1 and was bit laggy (even without gapps) i was wondering if i you could link another version like 4.1.2 or anyother as it might be older but smoother
2) i know about different gsm fixes but i can't remember witch one is needed in this case
3) what gapps should i choose i tried it without
directional arrows on nav bar while keyboard is active is the coolest thing i ever saw on an android
thanks for your help

Try http://goo.im/gapps first.
And if 4.3.1 lags for you then 4.1 won't likely help either.

didn't you receive my PM? I sent you a link with atleast 4-5 other AOKP versions. Try them out. According to one developer, 4.3.x was the heaviest of all JB versiona, try aokp_xt907_unofficial_2013-08-09.zip or the aokpzmod_xt907_nightly_20130726.zip that I sent you links to. They're both JB 4.2.2 (my favorite JB version). There's an AOKP GSM fix that I think should be just fine for you to use. For Gapps, I would recommend Core BaNkS Gapps. I can share if you want.
@AndyYan
there are too many gapps in that folder i installed a jb one but it wont work for it...what is the criteria to choose the correct one ?
@rahimali
i didnt see the pm msg at the biginning now i did ...thanks very much....the nightly one wont boot hangs on boot logo ...tried to wipe ,format erase...it wont boot....all the other roms it will give 7 hours of download time for each ...it will give error after about one hour of download...
will try later with the rom aokp_xt907_unofficial_2013-08-09.zip in case the download completes...what do you think gone wrong with the nighly installation ?
PM
@sewershark, I've sent you another PM
