[Q] How do I hide apps now that I have KitKat? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Got the KitKat OTA update a few days ago and notice I can no longer hide apps (bloatware). How do I hide them now without rooting and uninstalling them?

Go into Settings, My Device, Applications, and then go find your app, click force stop and then disable. It will hide the app.

Not sure whats going on, but I just tried it the Sprint Music app, it worked right away. Make sure you disable it after stopping it.

Hmm. My phone does not have a Sprint Music app. Example. If I try to do this to the VM app, this is what I get/see.

I don't think you can disable sprint zone, its known to cause problems if you disable sprint zone.

So. Back to the original question. How do I hide apps like I could before KitKat?

well, easy way then, use a 3rd party launcher (NOVA, etc) abd hide them that way.

Edit :: Wow...now its at 94...! What the heck is going on?? I tried rebooting the phone...but it made no difference.
Did you set it to sync with AppBrain?
Try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
Then go to the "All" tab and find Download Manager and clear data for it.

[Q] Help removing malware

I don't know what this came with but has anyone seen this random popup when opening app drawer or google voice - it'll also bring up Heroes of Dragon age from the play store randomly. How do I get rid of it? Thanks. Sorry, I don't know how to resize images.

they look more like ads... Do you remember which app you installed before they started appearing?
Try uninstalling that app... It may solve your issue...

that shouldn't be too hard..
If I am correct, the new apps are placed last in touchwiz... try going back in that order....
I will recommend making a list of apps using list my apps or similar app so that u can install the apps that were removed in the process here..
u can also check recently updated apps in my app section in Google play, that may also be doing that..
good luck!!

Weather widget only shows time, else is blank

Hello my Galaxy S5 Verizon version doesn't display weather on the weather widget. It has been a few days but thought would figure out on weekend. Can someone please help what should I do other than factory reset? I have a screenshot.

Another fix for the weather widget
I tried to solve my problem by going into Application Manager and stopping this app and deleting the cache.
However that did not help me.
So, I looked into the Settings / Application Manager / "Turned Off" section.
There I saw that an application named "Unified Daemon" was turned off.
After I turned this back "On", my weather widget was working.
FIXED**

You are a good man, That was exactly my issue. It looked like something I didn't want/need and I never put two and two together. So thank you, very much !

OK Google is Haunting Me

I intentionally turn off OK Google detection so my phone is doing one less thing, but it still is working and the options are disabled. I've only recently started to notice this. Tried to enable and disable the options again... no joy.

This may be painfully obvious, and I'm not trying to sound sarcastic at all, but:
Have you tried saying OK Google to see if it's actually working? How about just removing the widget from your home screen and replacing it with one that isn't voice activated? Or perhaps both..

Yes, it does work when saying OK Google. Also, would removing it prevent the mechanism on the backend that's listening from working also? Or would the service still be running?
I know that when I removed it, there didn't seem to be any listening going on. I think it uses this process in Maps as well as a couple other GApps, so after removing it you can try it in there/disable it in there as well. If you have root, you can always freeze it with TB. I completely removed it from my phone, so I don't have it to play with to try to find these things out. That's always the first thing I do, so I know very little about tinkering with system apps without root.
You can enable OK Google in settings.
try disabling your google account in settings.

Wierd issue with play store...

I have a 11 gen Amazon fire tablet 10.1 HD with fire toolbox. The problem that is driving me crazy is the play services message keeps coming up. Even though it is updated it says all the time I had this before but I feel like the fix always worked to me it just keeps coming back. I need some advice. I have installed and reinstall plenty times same error shows up. Always look at the play services app it is always up to date. I tried clearing the cache and every trick I could find no luck.
Is this a usual thing for fire toolbox or is it just me? Can one of you help me please.?
I'm having the same problem. I look forward to solutions too.
Ya hopefully bro..

Turbonova has a fix that worked for me in another thread. I did have to remove my SD card for it to work.
That doesn't help me I still need a fix.. My Google play installs fine even installed it that way before also.. My problem is constant notifications I need to update the play services...so thanks anyway

I read on one of these sites that you should disable auto-updates for Amazon because the hybrid apps affect google apps.

I figured out a work around.. You were right I lt was auto update but Google play store.. I reset it and took auto update off and now it doesn't annoy me anymore every five seconds to update.. I only get the update message now when I try to link Google which is a major upgrade because I was ignoring it anyway.. So thanks
I never had auto updates turned on for the google play store and I got that notification once a day..hasn't happened since september 21, maybe they pushed an update that fixed some kind of issue we weren't aware of?
