[Q] Long Press Home and Back buttons not working - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the past few weeks long pressing my home button no longer brings up recent apps and long pressing my back button no longer exits out of Dolphin Browser (it's all I really used that for). I have Nova launcher on, but going back to stock doesn't help. The buttons have also gone from black outline to white and the display option for changing the amount of buttons doesn't do anything. I have been trying to find a solution for this for a few weeks now with no luck.

Browser button used to turn display on, but now...

The browser button ("e") used to turn my screen back on when I pressed it. I liked that. Earlier this week I got around to upgrading my radio (to 1.57) and in the process I reinstalled the factory ROM, downloaded from HTC's US web site. Ever since then the only button that turns the backlight back on is the power button, so now I have a 2-step process to open Opera when the unit is in standby mode.
Any ideas how to get the old functionality back?

Click to collapse
I think Settings > Key Lock controls this. Note that ANY button press will wake the device. Which means more accidental button presses.
We have a winner. Thanks, I'm back to normal now. Apparently that setting has a different default in the ROM I loaded. I didn't touch it in the original ROM, or this one (supposed to be the same) and I wouldn't have thought to look there.

tmobile wing scrolling down

so ive had this problem before and i miraculously fixed it some how,
so ive done a little googling and seen that im not the only one with this problem, while the phones in portrait, returning from standby the down button seems to be pressed as it scrolls through the today screen insanely, but as soon as i press the up button it stops the scrolling. although the down button it self on the front doesnt work.
now in landscape mode with the keyboard, what would be the down button in portrait is scrolling to the left continuously until i press what would be the up button in portrait but is the right key on the directional pad.
i guess this is a important key factor here...the up, down, left, right arrows are working just fine on the keyboard
its not so annoying that i have to press the up button once to stop the scrolling, i mean i can live without the down button for now til i get a different phone, but as soon as i hit the power button to put the phone into stand by this "scrolling" restarts, so as soon as i hit the power button phone starts scrolling, and it takes, many many attempts for the phone to go into stand by due to this annoying glitch, im not sure if its a registry problem as to i cant find the down button in the registry
i cant seem to fix it like i have previously, i fixed it twice previously, some how.....
if anyone has solved the problem to the wing scrolling down problem, help me out here...

[Q] Home & Search buttons stop working on my DHD

My DHD Home & Search buttons, and occasionally the back button also, stop working after a while. Sometimes its only a few minutes after a soft reset, other times it may take an hour or so before it happens.
With the Home button, the screen just flashes when I press it but nothing happens - it doesn't go Home. With the Search button, nothing happens at all.
When I soft reset the DHD the buttons then return to normal for a while, but I've been unable to determine what causes it. I've run virus checks, and they are ok.
It doesn't affect the Menu button.
Any ideas?

Power button glitch on stock DI18

I'm running a completely stock phone and unrooted. For some reason my power button stopped working properly yesterday. When I press it the screen won't turn off anymore. The only way to turn it off is to set the screen time out to a shorter interval. The only thing I can think of that I did before it stopped working was trying to take a screenshot by pressing the hardware back button and home key several times like it said in that thread. I also tried doing it with the backspace button and home button. I wonder if I hit some weird keyboard combo that disabled the power button screen shutoff. It will still give me th "power off/silent/airplane" options if I do a long press.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Okay, I fixed it. I don't know what originally caused the problem, but I manually updated all the system options: firmware, profile, PRL, and Android, even though there were no actual updates to download. Pressed the power button and it's back to normal.
Whew...I can change my timeout back to 30 minutes.

Why does long pressing the home button take soooo long to open recent applications?

Coming from nexus devices, the most annoying thing to get used to, is accessing the recent applications. On nexus I only had to press the on screen button once and I could immediately switch from one app to another. It was smooth, responsive, but most importantly, FAST. On note 3, I have to long press the home button, which already is a draw back, AND wait for the ridiculously long response time to open the recents.
It is sooo long, so freaking long! I think it takes 2 seconds. Considering how much used this function is, it's one of the most stupid decisions Samsung has made, especially since all other major manufacturers already adopted the Google style. Fortunately they woke up with the s5 and replaced the menu button with recents. But what are we supposed to do with this old method?
Is there no way to decrease the response time. The smallest long press would be perfect, at least for me. Like 0.5 seconds, or even lower.
1. Turn off S-Voice activation via Home Key + StopSwitchingDelay Xposed Module Combo
2. Xposed Module called MenuBeGone
3. Nova Gestures(Swipe Up in my case)
It s instantly for my part. ..
I was finally able to solve it myself via the xposed additions module. I used it to remap the long home key press to recents (but now I was using addition's long press, not the one from samsung) and set the button delay to 135ms. Anything lower then that will activate recents on the smallest home click, but on 135 home feature still works and when long pressing, recent apps is almost instant.
