Device Encryption questions. Some little annoying things. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just encrypted my GS4 which by the way took 15 minutes!!!!!!! Not alot of apps anyways. So this was kind of expected.
Everything went smoothly. But I noticed something strange when the phone rebooted for the first time after encryption was completed.
The inital Bootup encryption logon console had a different language (perhaps maybe Italian) I dont know.
I then entered my Password, so no issues there and the phone was back to normal English language mode.
But why is the bootup encryption screen has a different language interface to it?
Just dont know why.I bought this phone in Europe.
Another thing which kind of bugs me, is that the keyboard makes the "dripping" sound effect when on the encryption password prompt screen.
Now after when I enter my password, all seems to be back to normal. Its just these events occur ONLY at the bootup encryption password prompt console.
Please image inserted
Any thoughts as to why?
Also, is there any way to change this device encryption password if I decide to? If so, how is this possible? Please explain the steps.
Maybe changing the screenlock password??? Would it be under there?
Thanks!

Unable to decrypt samsung galaxy s4

Hi, I have an i9505 which I have rooted with the help of some of the guides on here.
Anyway, I encrypted my phone from settings -> security not really knowing what I was doing. I was just thinking that it would make my phone more secure or whatever.
Anyway, following this I now have to enter a password every time I lock my phone screen which I find very inconvenient and I understand that I can't install any custom roms in the future.
I have tried to decrypt the phone from settings -> security but the process doesn't seem to complete.
It says that the decrypting process is irreversible ect ect.. it will take one hour ect... ect.. then when I click to confirm it and begin the decryption process the phone just seems to switch off then it turns back on by itself within 30-60 seconds and that is it. The phone is still encrypted?
Can anyone help me please?
I am really gutted!!!
Thanks
I am experiencing the same problem right now, did you ever find a solution?

I was keeping my hopes going because there is a "decrypt device" option in the security settings, but that wouldn't work and I was hoping I was ****ing it up somehow. Guess device cleansing is my only option.

Samsung device have the "decrypt device" option and it works, tried it multiple times.
Decrypting a Samsung Galaxy S4
Had the same problem several times. Make sure "USB Debugging" is off in the "Developer Options" section of the Settings screen.
Dont fret....go to settings<lock screen and then change it to swipe....Hope this works!

Last night i had the same problem but i managed to fix
If you press decode it says password and then enter a password of at least 6 digits AND AT LEAST 1 NUMBER to activate the decoding part i tottaly missed that but i realized it a few hours after.
And then it started decoding for about half an hour and it was fixed.
Hope this was usefull so you wont need a system reset.
Given that the original post was in 2013, the OP likely had to reset, if none of the other posts from 2013 in the thread helped.
4.1/2 years on - there must be someone out there that knows how to decrypt the GT-I9195 ??
I spent yesterday researching pro's & con's of encrypting my phone. Couldn't find anyone saying password had to be entered EVERY TIME I USE the phone, just people wrongly advising that I would have to enter password every time I switch the phone on. I could live with that, I thought, so I encrypted it. Big mistake. Why anyone wants a phone that needs a password on every use, I do not know.
Please help me decrypt my phone. Thanks

Locked out of VZW GS4....

My Galaxy S4 decided to password protect itself... no idea why. I usually use the Lock Screen pattern, when I screw that up enough it prompts me for a PIN. I guess that's what happened, but after I got in after doing entering the PIN, I didn't reset my PIN or pattern, so now it's asking me for a password to get into the phone.
I've tried using Android Device Manager to send the phone a new password... it doesn't work. When I send an integer only password the phone prompts for a PIN, but it doesn't accept the PIN I send, and when I send it a alpha-numeric password, it prompts for a password, but doesn't accept that either. Clearly the phone is acknowledging the receipt of new protocol.... but it's not adhering to the new directions.
Anyone know how get around this? Or another method that doesn't require me destroying all of my data? Or a way for me to retrieve my data without having to manually select "Use as Media Device" (can't do this since I can't access the drop down menu).
Well, if you're rooted you can mount to your computer via the recovery.
You can also try a dirty flash. Will not destroy your data but it may cause bugs and other problems.
Maybe you got some kind of virus.

Not rooted, do I have to be rooted for a dirty flash?
You have to be rooted to install any kind of custom rom.
I think samsung kies has a backup feature. But I may also backup the password.

[Q] How to unlock the screen with fingerprint?

My Samsung S5 (SM-G900F, 4.4) device has a fingerprint scanner to unlock the screen. It was working perfectly, but now it only asks for the alternative password, but I forgot it. I tried on the Google webpage to lock my phone, I hoped that the password given there will be overwrite the alternative password on the phone, but it said, that it found the phone already locked, so no need to use the password. I don't want to do a factory reset if it possible, how could I get the fingerprint scanner to be an option again, or somehow unlock the screen and use my phone?
This happened to me today in the morning on my S5 mini with stock OS. At first I typed in the correct alternative password, but it was not recognized. Latter I successfully (?) changed password with "Lock" option on Android Device Manager, and it didn't help either...
At the end I did a factory reset and lost all my data
Is this a common bug? Should we report it somewhere or something?
After too many failed fingerprint attempts, it will only ask for the password
Maybe someone else has been trying to access your phone
Factory reset to regain access if you don't know your alternative password (Probably a good idea to write that down)

Yes, you are correct. I tested this again, and I think that, in the morning, I really used wrong password . And the first time I didn't notice the displayed info, about password already being set, on Android Device Manager site, when I tried to change the password.
Thanks for the replay

Am I crazy or did my device decrypt and is no longer encrypted after last update?

Hello all,
Although not clearly encrypted upon receipt of the device from VZW, I located the setting and encrypted the device.
After the last security update from Google/VZW I noticed that the option to encrypt/decrypt device is no longer present, and after rebooting my phone, I am no longer prompted to enter my PIN at boot. Note that I did have the setting as discussed/shown here and here after receiving the device.
The explicit feature I'm speaking of is discussed in this review:
Samsung now supports the PIN to decrypt on boot feature. It must be enabled manually in the lock screen and security settings area under “protect encrypted data.” Also, the S7 and S7 edge are full-disk encrypted by default, and cannot be decrypted.

These two things lead me to believe that the "whole-disk" encryption on the device has been removed completely or... is it just the PIN on boot feature? What does it all mean? What is the world coming to?
Am I just paranoid/silly and just forgot where the option was? Or is there a vast global network of government organizations trying to get my cat pictures?
Thanks,
Matt

One thing I can tell you for sure...based on a diff Samsung device: would WOULD KNOW if it got decrypted somehow as it factory defaults the phone.
Could be just different behavior regarding the PIN or even a bug.

Device locked by forgotten pattern

Hi,
I tried to change the pattern of my device, it seems that I didn't set what I thought and now that I restarted my system, the device (Android 7) is asking my for a pattern to let me turn it on, that I don't know.
Of course I'm the owner from this device, with my Google account and everything but I made a misstake and I don't know how to fix it.
What are my options now?, Should I restart the device with recovery options, wiping data user and that or what do I need to do?
Regards in advance.
Do you by any chance have TWRP installed? If so, there are certain files you can delete to remove the pattern.
Try it enough times and it should offer to unlock another way, then use your Google account.
And don't use pattern unlock... PIN an fingerprint are fine.
