[Q]WiFi really slow - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a Nexus 10 yesterday. It came with 4.2.2 JB and I manually flashed the 4.4.2 KK Factory Image. I then rooted and started using the device. Nexus 10 WiFi is really crappy. Slow and dropping out on my Home WiFi.
The Nexus 10 WiFi is great when WiFi tethered to my Nexus 5.
Was thinking it's my router but Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Laptop works great with the Home WiFi.
I don't know if 4.4.2 or 4.3 JB is better. What can I do ?

An imperfect reply I know but...
Often this is bad luck of WiFi settings and defaults. Try changing router settings til you find a combo which works better. Try changing to a fixed channel after using WiFi analyzer to see which is least congested.
Ultimately what cured my exact same problem was flashing firmware on my router to DD-WRT and then fine for the N10. It made it a tad worse on my N7 though.

I have the same issue. At my home WiFi, my Nexus 10 is running sometimes on 20kB/s, sometimes on 600kB/s.
While my Samsung Galaxy S2 also equipped with Android is on the same Wifi getting stable connection between 500kB/s - 600kB/s.
I would love to have a sollution for my Nexus 10. Because at the moment for example I can't enjoy HD youtube videos, because of the download speed and constant buffering.

Known problems for Galaxy Tab2 P3100?

Hello!
I want to buy a used Galaxy Tab2 P3100 and I wanted to know if there are some specific problems for this device: some touchscreen issues, some display rendition issues, anything..
I'm waiting for your answers..
The only problem I have heard is that the touch screen isn't as sensitive as people would like it to be.
Personally, I have no issues with the screen and use this device constantly with almost everything I do. The size really makes it a great buy compared to a 10" tablet.

This seems old thread .. still would put a point .. !!
GTab 2 P3100 doesn't have auto focus camera. This is a BIG turn down for me.
Rest everything works excellent .. including touchscreen .. !!

The wifi signal is very weak,it does not recoonect sometimes; therefore, you have to turn off and turn back on the wifi feature.
my version has good wifi signal ,the only problem i notice is when holding the tab one of the four corners is effecting the wifi signal strength ,although i've only seen a single signal drop ,so it was never a problem for me
The wifi signal is very weak,it does not reconnect sometimes; therefore, you have to turn off and turn back on the wifi feature.

This issue should be a software bug. I face this issue after updating to ICS 4.0.4 (Official).
Is this the case for you as well ?

Device is good for the price. Except i have issue with connecting to WiFi after ICS 4.0.4 update.
Mine is running 4.0.3 and I have the crappiest, poor, weak wifi signal.
I have been chatting with 3 Samsung agents tonite and no help at all, they want me to fill out a service request form. This is crazy, specially when I received the brand new tabs hours ago
Just curious, my P3100 also exhibit the same issue... when connecting to my N home router. But when I try to connect to mobile router (less power, set to 802.11 G only) it has better signal so anyone having the problem, are you using 802.11 n or b/g?
I bought the sucker and I used for two weeks with the stock ROM. It didn't bother me too much with the dead points (when I was trying to close a tab) until yesterday. So I downloaded CM9 and I put it.
Regarding to WIFI issues. The tablet is behaving exactly as the last 4 Samsung android phones that I had (I9000, 2 x I9100, N7000). Sometimes it doesn't connect until I reset the router, sometimes it never tries to connect, most of the time it's connects in a couple of seconds.
The only complaint is the screen: having only Samoled screens, the display of p3100 is a little disappointing, especially outside. Maybe I will sell this one and buy the Note2 (not too sure about this) or maybe P6800. I shall see.
Is the wifi any better with CM9?
Thanks.
No, no problems, BUT I didn't experienced problems using the stock ROM.
The only problems I have is the Netflix app is crap..no wifi issues.. and.. I think that's it ....

[VIDEO] Anyone encountering this kind of wifi bug after ICS update?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAolnRQyRxI
I recorded a video showing how the WiFi bug occur. Simply speaking the WiFi disconnects itself regularly for some reason, especially when there is massive data flows (says when using Google maps). It won't reconnect automatically unless you manually turn it off and on again. This bug seems to occur only after ICS upgrade (WIFI is totally fine on 3.2) and so far there is no solution to the issue. I really don't get how come after 4 months of the release of ICS update, Samsung is still not taking any action to solve this issue.
My Wi-Fi has been horrible when reconnecting when going to a common area. Also my battery life has been horrid. I would love to keep this tablet because it's quick, awesome screen, and the size is perfect but these issues are getting obnoxious and there just isn't the development available for the sch-i815. I'm seriously considering selling this on eBay and going with the nexus 3g.
Would rather fix these issues and work with someone to develop this into what it could be instead of returning it because this is definite a solid product.

Nexus 10 restarting randomly

Hi all, had my nexus 10 since the opening sale on the google play store. Recently I've been having issues with it restarting randomly, in some cases when it has just been sitting on my desk without any input.
I've also had a few problems with the wifi as well as a creaky backplate. I see the backplate issue is common with most who have the device but was wondering if the WiFi issue could be the reason my device keeps restarting? I'm at the point now where I may have to send it back.

All those issues are common problems with 4.2.x right now.

The quick and easy fix that worked for me was to disable all location settings. It did the trick and it should for you as well. Hope that helps.

I'd be willing to bet it was rebooting the whole time and you didn't notice. Turning off the location services is hit and miss. Some say it cures it (after an unspecified amount of time usually) but others like me still see reboots.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I just started getting the reboot error except I was able to isolate the problem to a lost wifi signal. With chrome reloading a couple pages, turn off my wifi router and the nexus 10 will freeze. It won't respond to any input and will just set for about a minute until it finally reboots on its own.
Only time ever I have had the freeze/reboot error is when I went into an area that lost the signal. Seems like chrome/nexus 10 does not know how to handle the lost signal and tries to correct it with a hardware reboot. Happens at both 2.4 and 5ghz.
Hopefully be corrected in the next software upgrade.

I only have issues if the AP in the router is set to use a 40Mhz channel bandwidth. If I set it to 20Mhz, I can enjoy stable wifi goodness. It took me 2 RMA'd Nex 10s and testing with 3 different routers to come to this conclusion, but this was the workaround that succeeded for me.

I have actually noticed a difference on the different routers so I'll pay a bit more attention to this and see if my device reflects the same results.
I'm in the same situation. I will be reviewing my 4th replacement unit. I will keep replacing it until it works like it's suppose to.

+1. Same process worked wonders for my N10.
I know random reboots is common with 4.2 but is it possible it's hardware related or something else? Reason being, I get alot of random reboots on the PUB AOKP rom, that just about all other users of that rom say they have zero random reboots, and I also get reboots while in TWRP, which I have reinstalled multiple times.

For me, I have the problem about one per day. Disabling location services did little for me. What helped the most was replacing Chrome with Firefox.

Its just so ludicrously awful to need to replace default apps and turn off features to have a usable tablet. Not so much for us because we will root and fix things ourselves but if a random person goes into best buy and buys a nexus 7 or 10 they will have a bad experience. All the people who say android is buggy...this is why. Its unfortunate how broken 4.2 is.

Since you set your router to 20 MHz has it continued to work without rebooting? Also do have geo location enabled ? Thanks
Mine also random reboot and hang. When fix will be out! This is crazy for v4.2 or v4.2.1
Android please release fixed as soon as possible.
Any kernel or ROM solving this issue now? Or all same?
Root is the answer

I rooted my Nexus 10 and was on CM 10.1 nightlies before switching to LiquidSmooth. No random reboots in either case! I think Google will fix this in the next release.

Ya, I was at CM 10.1 now, it was much better, especially when removed and not using Chrome. By the way CM 10.1 stock browser was much better and smooth.
Android must fix it!
Hate to say it but this is what a nexus user does lol bug reporting I'm sure Google are keeping an eye out on this topic loll, mine reboots when updating apps from the play store. I'll post a video on youtube when I get a chance.

Yeah I'm on a custom ROM with linaro optimizations and its fantastic. Slapped in ktmanta kernel and now just full of win. Aosp browser is better than chrome anyway. It's a sad state of affairs when community work is better than Google's but at least we can enjoy alternatives.

I have a hunch that the CPU isn't getting enough power. I've currently upped the voltage by 25V so I'm going to see if that does anything. Using CleanROM definitely did reduce it though.

after a bit of fiddeling around I figured out that its my laptops Wifi that interfere with the nexus wifi.
I start to copy a file from my server to the nexus - speed is 32-54 Kb/s. Then I off the wifi on my laptop and right away the file transfer speed to the nexus raises to 1.27 Mb/s
then I turn on the laptop wifi again and the transfer speed drops right back to 32Kb/s
now how can i figure out what the laptop is doing that ****s with the nexus? (no the laptop is not running anything on the network)
Im guessing its have something to do with the frequencies of the radios. can it be changed on the laptop running ubuntu?

The frequency is determined by which network it's connected to, and it's set on the AP. Everything on a single wireless network runs on the same frequency.

I believe it's your router, did you tried using your phone on wifi while laptop is on, or phone + tablet setup? This is a weird thing IMO.

My wifi has been crap since the upgrade to 4.3, works good 80-90% of the time and like crap the other 10-20%.I have factory wiped twice to ensure it was not root or some other strange reason. Nothing else has changed, all worked great on 4.2.2. This is very frustrating and I hope Google is working on it cause i don't want to go back to 4.2.2 as I would lose Miracast.
any new ideas with this? i just flashed a 4.3 rom and my wifi is killing me. what can i do?
Have you tried different kernels?

[Q] Terrible wifi; ROM or old tech?

So I recently got this tablet, rooted it, and installed the 4.3 nightlys (this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2413878)
I've been bringing it to work so I can just get things done faster reading e-mail and news without distracting during my breaks. At some point, I started to noticed how incredibly slow things loaded up such as trying to load articles from feedly as well as its videos. I later noticed that my wifi was only 2 bars. I figured it was enough but apparently it isn't as things just load up so bloody slow.
I decided to to download the app, Speed Test, into the tablet and found out I've been downloading at crappy speeds of 900-1100 kbps while my Samsung Galaxy S4, in the same area I'm testing the speed, is running at ridiculous speeds of 26-30 >mbps<.
I actually restore the tablet back to original stock and tested again and same deal. Has anyone got this problem? I'm leading to believe its old hardware which would be incredibly disappointing if that's the case... but maybe there's an update or fix for this terrible wifi?
Check your Advanced WiFi settings - disable 'WiFi optimisation' and see how that goes. Apparently it slows things down!

I turned off and used it for a few days; same issue. Is there any other possibilities? Any patches or fixes for this? Because if it's really because of old tech, I'm going to sell this and try out Swappa to avoid eBay fees for such a disappointment.
Maybe you got a bad tablet mine off n router is way faster then that. Loads almost instantly
Sent from inside my mkv.
the router/modem combo that Time Warner gave me is junk, don't know what the hell is wrong with it
but other routers at my friends houses seem to do fine
so i'm guessing it's a hardware issue
im going to hook my d-link router up to the modem/router combo (if i can ever figure it out)
oh yeah, if anyone know how to do that (router to router) message me or something
