I bought an i9505x from eBay, before realising that the "x" signified a shop display demo model, which has the SIM socket disabled.
I then bought a working, unlocked i9505 logic board from eBay to replace the dummy one.
I received both and the demo unit was in immaculate condition, booted and displayed "Galaxy S5, Live Demo" on splash screen startup. Everything worked apart from SIM of course. All sensors, camera, WiFi... everything apart from mobile networking.
I then swapped the demo board for the full logic board (and added the thin antenna cable that runs down the side of the screen as this wasn't present on the demo phone). The phone booted and received telephony and internet from both the giffgaff and three SIM cards I tried in it. Everything else worked.
I rooted/CWM'ed it and upgraded the ROM to 4.3 or 4.4 (can't remember which one) and it worked OK for maybe two days and I went to work. When I got back from work my girlfriend said it had been displaying green lines and dots on the screen so she turned it off and put it on charge.
I had a look and there were intermittent rolling pale green lines quickly moving up and down the screen on boot, with a few dots the same colour at seemingly random intervals. After leaving the battery out for 30 mins and putting on charge for 30 mins I managed to get it to boot into ROM and all seemed well until I tried to reboot and the lines/dots happened again, with the dots getting worse.
In a tiny font on the display it seemed to have a line of text, but as it was so small and scrolling about I couldn't read it. A couple of boots later and the screen is totally blank.
I've flashed a stock 4.3 ROM on it by guessing the download key combination, as there's no display for download mode. Odin responded correctly, showed a connected device and went through the ten minute flash process and rebooted the phone.
The phone now boots and makes the Samsung startup tune and once booted I get the volume adjust bleeps when I press volume up/down so I know the ROM has booted but the screen is totally dead. I even get the initial blue LED for a couple of seconds on boot.
I'm going to try swapping the demo board back in today to prove if the screen is dead or not.
If the screen is OK then could it be the GPU portion of the logic board?
If so, what are the chances of me swapping chips around? I imagine this would be an impossibly tricky job to do at home.
Thanks for reading.
How much have you laid out so far £££ ?

My little sister observatenly identified that my phone was extremely thin. She then suggested it could snap easily and attempted to do so. Obviously she failed being reasonably weak. however!
I stopped her, and proceeded to use my phone to surf the web. In rather strange fashion, i was on the standard google home page when for no reason the letters google went all over the screen, the gyroscope stopped functioning. In panic I turned the phone off and restarted it. The phone booted as usual, however, in that bootup animation screen where the 'S' changes colours, suddenly random pixels turned green, red and blue at random and a million 'S's' appeared. I was convinced at this point that the screen was broken.
I took out the battery and rebooted and the phone just started as usual and has worked for 24 hours just fine since.
Do you reckon there could be any long term damage here?
Why would you let someone do this test on your phone ?
well now you can return your phone, lol.
The only permanent damage should be to your fkwit of a sister. Something like a phone will obviously snap if you apply enough pressure on it.
Hi i have problem with my s5 display, it starts going crazy like scrolling up constantly, when i use it and then switch the power button to shut thr display the phone does not power back up unless i remove battery, otherwise the two button lights only show.
Prior to this problem, it started when my mic at the bottom stopped working, and then the pinnacle point was when i unrooted my s5 and rebooted, immediately the colors turned to different tints of colours.
The next day it started going all fuzzy and scrolling up.
Took it to samsung but waa refused as i found out about the knox counter lol
I have my usb port dock part which im ready to replace on my mainboard. But what ia causing the funny display ? I can barely use my phone, the digitizer seems fine aa at times it works for like 5mins.

I have obtained a water damaged Lumia 520. I opened it up and dried it while also clearing any oxidation from the various contact points. The phone displayed the bolt+gear icon on screen but the screen kept flashing and fading. I figured the phone needed the firmware to be reflashed so I downloaded the software recovery tool and it detected the phone and flashed the firmware without error. Then the phone actually worked albeit with a black screen, I could hear the little noises and stuff so it was working under the black screen. I figured that maybe the screen could be salvaged by cleaning the contacts and letting it dry up completely, but after I put the phone together it wouldn't work anymore at all, it basically turns on for a few seconds and turns itself off. The software recovery finds it and I can reflash the firmware but it still doesn't work. I tried checking all the internal connectors but now there doesn't seem to be any way to make it work even with the dead screen.
Is there something I need to touch on screen to make it work? I never had a Windows Phone so I don't really know and I can't see the screen. And do you geniuses know what might be wrong with it and how can I tell if it's just the LCD that has been killed by the water or if the motherboad might be FUBAR as well? What could be causing it to turn off after a few seconds? The battery is definitely not dead as I left it to charge for a long time.
Actually I just managed to "fix" it. The screen comes on after I cleaned the contacts and messed with it a bit, it just looks really bad and it's full of line but I can see what's on screen and use the phone. My issue now is that the bolt+gear icon appears at every reboot and doesn't go away. The only way I have to boot the phone normally is to hold camera and volume down after I reboot it. What does this mean? Other than that the phone seems to be working perfectly once it actually boots.
I just managed to bring it back to life completely. Screen contacts were water damaged but I managed to get them working again and now the screen is perfect. It kept getting stuck on the bolt+gear icon after every reboot because the volume+ button was stuck but I managed to unstuck it and now the phone is perfect. So yeah if you have a flashing screen after water damage check the contacts, if your phone doesn't boot and keeps getting stuck on that icon try to unstuck the volume+ button.

This happened two days ago with my wife's S7 Edge. She was using it to text me about dinner plans after work, her screen shut off, and it wouldn't work for several hours. The thing was getting very hot. When she was home and charging the phone the screen started working again for a little while, but with several green stripes down the right edge snd aa flashing horizontal band of grey near the top overlaying the screen image. Then when I tried plugging it into my computer to use Samsung's Smart Switch to roll back from the update she had accepted while at work the screen died again. It has not come on since, not even the stripes, and blue or red LED lights once in a wwhile at random. I managed to use Smart Switch to wipe the phone's memory. Then the program took several hours to download something very slowly and install that - a whole new OS update? That completed, and now the charging LED works correctly and the green stripes and grey band are back, flashing rapidly when powering on. Otherwise no screen function.
She is now trying to find a new phone, but definitely NOT a Samsung. This S7 Edge has already had the screen replaced once, just before the first year warranty ran out, as it did almost the same thing - in March the green striping (plus pink) appeared along one edge and the battery was running out very fast, the phone overheating so much that she found it uncomfortable to hold. We argued with Samsung a lot until they replaced the screen. Something is VERY wrong with this model. She's considering an LG. What a waste of money. One would expect a thousand dollar phone to last longer than this.
I am facing what I think to be the same issue with my son's phone. Green line down right side edge. Screen turns on for a second, then black screen. It's on, but can't do anything. Did you find a fix for this?
No. Today I gave up and took my wife's S7 Edge to the authorized repair centre. They say they'll run a diagnostic for $25, and if the screen needs to be replaced it will cost $385. Brilliant. If this thing gets fixed I will be running custom ROMs on the phone, probably an RR, as it seems Samsung's OTA updates kill phones.
Turned in out the authorized repair centre for our region, Acura in Surrey, BC, went ahead with the screen replacement without our authorization. I specifically said in a note given to them at the time that they were to ask first. But they didn't bother. My wife decided she liked the phone enough to pay over $400 to get it back. It's been working for a few weeks now. Hope it stays working. At this point I have a strong feeling that the S7 Edge was a poorly made device, at least some batches. The reports of these screen failures are just too common.
Check if your screen still alive or maybe connected correctly, here is a way to do it:
1- plug it in your computer then start smart switch
2- dail *#7353#
3- you can now test any thing in your phone
4- search for the TSP
5- try now to touch your device screen
If it display in the computer that mean the touch is working but the screen is not
If the toch is not working you have to check the cables if its connected correctly inside your phone
But if you have warranty don't waste your time and let them fix it, and don't forget to backup your files
Woke up this morning and started using my phone, noticed that the screen became unresponsive for a few seconds at a time and then I saw some gray horizontal lines.
Did a battery pull and restarted the phone, however, the screen is completely black and I can still hear the boot sound.
It requires a pin to start completely and I can feel the vibration when I touch the location of the back button (the only navigation key available on the pin screen).
Since this started happening I have tried restarting several times and I have seen the "LG splash screen" once, it freezes, the boot sound plays and the screen goes black once again.
The phone is unrooted and has never been modified any at all. It is the US996 variant.
Has anyone ever faced this issue? Could it be the display itself and maybe a replacement LCD will fix the issuse?
UPDATE
Got past the pin screen and think the phone has fully booted, fingerprint scanner works, I can touch the navigation keys and get feedback and I am still getting notifications.
However, the main screen is still blank and the second screen shows the time surrounded by static surrounded. I have attached a photo.
Sounds like a hardware issue.

Hi Have you fixed the issue?
Hi
it looks like a corrupt bootloader,
Was it rooted? try to press with the phone off volume + and plug in the usb to enter in download mode, if you enter download mode go back to factory

Had to send it in to LG to have it repaired
Oddly enough once it was returned the problem reoccured a few weeks later after using an aukey quick charge3.0 charger that I had. Which was when it happened the first time but I didn't make the connection until the second time around
I got rid of the phone though
No more LGs for me, I haven't had much luck with them
Throw that charger seems like or the cable or the charger itself gone bad ,one charger killed 2 of my phones not diferent brands
