I am still a bit new to flashing on the AT&T Samsung GS4 and I want to make sure I don't brick my phone. I was wondering how do I find out what version of a ROM I should flash. I am currently using GOLDENEYE 21 and I was hoping to flash GOLDENEYE 23R1 FULL ROM. I know I am still on LOKI but I don't know how to tell if it is the old or new version or if I am NF3 or NB1. My current baseband is 1337UCUAMDL. I was hoping to flash GOLDENEYE 23R1 FULL ROM.
1) My question is if I am on the older LOKI will I brick my phone by flashing this or will I be ok?
2) Do I need to upgrade to the newer LOKI?
a) If yes is there a tutorial I missed and need to read?
Thanks in advanced for any help.
Because I am latest firmware I can't help you fully. But you stated your firmware is still MDL. The baseband is the firmware. It would seem to be you should be golden with whatever you did to flash the first goldeneye.

Typically, the baseband and firmware have the same version. You would see a difference if you flash "modem". Baseband version is actually the version of the modem.

All that being said...would it be in my best interest to go ahead and upgrade my modem to a more current version or is it better to stay where I am at?
This isn't JUST directed at the OP but it could help.
The Baseband as stated is what it is reading from the modem. So Yes you can flash whichever modem you want to try in twrp, cwm, or even safestrap.
You say you are on MDL bootloader. If so this is GREAT and you can flash ANYTHING you want. IF it is a 9505 based ROM you will most likely need to flash Loki to get it to boot.
So in the actual scheme of things it is NOT the baseband that prevents users from flashing Roms and such. It IS THE BOITLOADER version.
So as long as your still on MDL or MDB bootloader, your golden.
To double check WHICH bootloader your phone is on you will need an app called "Terminal Emulator".
Open Terminal Emulator and type "su" (without the quotation marks).
Give Terminal Emulator Root Rights.
Next hit the "x" button and close terminal emulator.
Open the app again and type su enter
getprop ro.bootloader
Look at the first line and it gives the exact bootloader installed on your phone

Hope this helps others figure out and double check things before flashing. As far as OP you should be good with flashing any or the modems in recovery. Find one that works BEST for your phone and in your area. You can always flash back to your original modem as well. Just was trying to clarify things here and help you understand what is going on and why a bit. The point of flashing modems mostly will effect your download/upload speeds and sometimes a better signal. These things can vary by region. So you may fond a modem that works better or worse. It is NEVER necessary to flash modems.
It also cant hurt, because you can flash back to your original. You MAY find an OLDER modem perform better than newer as well. So test them out and see for yourself. Good luck and Happy Flashing

MDB was the firmware the device was released with.
MDL was the update that came a few weeks later.
MF3 is the current version which breaks the old root/recovery/bootloader exploits.

Nothing, really. It's more of a location-based thing, and which one works better for who and where.

Actually to be more precise, it wasn't the MF3 baseband that broke root/recovery/bootloader.....it was the ROM itself that did.

I never said it was the baseband! You can flash the modem (aka baseband) for MF3 and be fine. It was actually the update to the bootloader that blew the qfuse.

The new AT&T Baseband version is I337 UCMA MF3.
Not sure about the differences above.
When it says "Baseband" that ONLY means the modem (radio) that is installed.

Now as far as being able to flash certain Roms that SAY you need to be on "MDL" baseband they are ACTUALLY referring to the FIRMWARE VERSION with THE BOOTLOADER that goes with that firmware and NOT the modem (baseband/radio) being used.
So for instance you can see MY BASEBAND above is "MDL" but my ACTUAL FIRMWARE is still on "MDB" bootloaders. So if I want to flash those Roms that say they require MDL, I would actually need to flash the BOOTLOADER that comes with the MDL firmware to be able to run those Roms. I understand where the confusion comes from on those Roms. BUT if they said you need to be on MDL BOOTLOADERS to be able to flash this ROM you would have others confused about HOW TO FLASH BOOTLOADERS and the riskyness of flashing bootloaders that CAN HAPPEN if someone doesn't understand what they are doing 100%

I've been running MDL since I got my phone. I was using Kangabean and was having issues with my data and signal constantly going out. I upgraded to the kit kat version, but it's still doing the same thing. I feel like this is dumb to even ask, but I've searched and couldn't find anything and I'm at work so I'm sort of pressed for time right now. Can somebody suggest what baseband to use and post it? As long as it wont screw up anything from me having a first production S4 with the original exploit then I want to try upgrading. As far as I can remember, it wont have any effect. Can somebody verify this for me? Your help is greatly appreciated.

You can safely flash any modem from RockRatt's thread in the general section and see if it improves connection. The baseband will change, but not the bootloader so you'll be fine on custom recovery and such.

It isn't MDL. It was the bootloader itself which came when MDL did. Changing the baseband wont lock the bootloader.

They have the same Modem I posted for the newest there now as well. Not sure if they have all the modems for the ATT i337 though. You can find all the ATT modems in my thread in general. Just flash any/all of them and find which works best for you. These will NOT update or change your boot loader in any way.

The Original boot loader that came with the phone is MDB, but if you took the MDL update (still does not have the super locked down boot loader) then you probably have the MDL bootloaders. Either way if you have the bootloaders from MDB or MDL the original exploit will work still so MAKE SURE to keep the bootloaders you have (I still have the MDB bootloaders as well).
Also you can always check which bootloader you have by installing Terminal Emulator, open the app, type su, then type getprop ro.bootloader and it will tell you which you have.

There is no direct firmware to flash. You have to Odin the NB1 tar first, then flash the NC1 update. There is more information in Post 5 here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51130818
Keep in mind, I do not have a sim unlocked phone, so I have no idea what effect, if any, Odin back to ATT stock will have on that aspect.

Did you look at the link I sent you? It has a link to the files you need. UCUFNC1 was only a small 20MB update. Probably why it's not showing up on your link.

I used to do a lot of this back in my Bionic days, but I've just been stock for a few of years on my hltevzw Note 3. I've been happy with my stock 4.4.2 KitKat except that It's been eating the battery lately. The bloatware seems to be unhappy that I won't cave to Big Red, so it just runs up the CPU until the battery dies.
Anyhow, I bought a spare Note 3, unlocked the bootloader, and got TWRP going on it. It's on 4.4.2 right now (stock) and I'm ready to flash something bloat-free. I've read stories about GPS or MMS or modem not working with some roms and I can't have that. I just need a rom that will run like stock without the bloat. I use the pee out of GPS, I go through 35 gigs of data a month, I text instead of calling, and I still accept the occasional phone call.
What would be recommended for something like that?

Jasmine Rom 6.1 it is based on OF1 but works fine with the 4.4.2 bootloader (unlocked) and 4.4.2 modem. I run it with idlekernal or also with the reccomended leankernel. Very battery friendly.

According to what you posted, you only installed the lean kernel. You didn't install the rom itself. Read the link I posted, follow all the steps for dev edition. You don't need to flash the modem, nc4 modem works fine.
