Hello people,
Since I've updated my Xperia SP to android 4.3 I've noticed that there is a process that increased my battery consumption at about a 5 to 18%.
com.sonyericsson.android.wakelock
I've read it is related with something called Fast Dormancy, buy I don't know what it is.
What I've personally tested is that it is due to the 3G and H+ usage.
Here I attach a battery cycle using 3G:
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And here I attach a battery cycle WITHOUT using 3G:
I've not rooted the phone, so it is (still) "virgin".
My customization is the "free of operator" Hong Kong stock rom (1271-7847_R3B) and my provider is Movistar (Spain).
I know other people with this problem:
1272-3352 R1 (Central Europe) - Movistar (Spain)
1269-3538 (Greece) - Movistar (Spain)
1272-9711_R4b (Vodafone_ES) - Vodafone (Spain)
Does anybody else have this problem? And in that case, could you post your customization number and operator?
In case you don't experience this problem, please post your customization number and operator too. Maybe this way we will understand where this problem comes from.
Thanks.

Attachements are not working. And I love the way you say your phone is still Virgin haha (sorry for OT).. Sounded really funny :silly:
Sorry for the attachments. I don't know what's happening with my Tapatalk ID. I'll try to repare it later.
Edit: Attachments corrected.

I'm having terrible battery performance since the update. So much so that I factory reset it, uninstalled all apps that I could, and even limited to removing all email accounts except one. The battery that used to last 2 days just before the update now barely lasts ~6 hours.
I've now reverted back to my old phone as this one is useless and needs to be plugged in all the time. I will revert back to 4.1 during the weekend.
Running India stock firmware, no root, nothing done.
Until they fix this, I don't think the 4.3 works on my phone.

Wow, you're absolutely right. I switched the network preference to GSM only and overnight the drain has been only 2 percent.
Looks like switching to WCDMA is causing massive battery drain in this ROM.

I get 5% drain on 2G overnight but in overall i get more screen time than on 4.1.2

Is not provider or customization related, is how fast dormancy and sonyericsson.wake are configured in 4.3
That fast dormancy **** is a improvement for 3G that normally make improve battery life connecting to network just when is needed (is something more complex), but Sony make that connect more than is needed....
Actually u can deactivate fast.dormancy adding some lines to build.prop, but obviously u need root (u will no lose 3G connectivity)...
Yet with sonyericsson.wake I have a full day battery life, but if u want solve this u have to rape ur phone (just following ur analogy XD), I hope Sony solve this with the new firmware certified
weird how you guys are getting bad battery life, if anything my battery life is better than on 4.1.2

I've noticed also that the battery has improved from 4.1 to 4.3 using mainly WiFi, but if you use mainly data connection through the day that stupid com.sonyericsson.android.wakelock is gonna drain your battery a lot!!! Do you think that deleting fastdormancy from system/apps could be a solution or not?
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Got to wait a few weeks for the next update. If the drain on 3G isn't fixed, then I will have unlock and root the phone to try tweak the settings. Until then I guess I'm on a 2G connection.
But apart from this, on a 2G network battery performance is definitely much improved over 4.1.

Looking at the stats it is not a huge problem. Only two hours diffrence so it is not that much.
I do recommend you to disable also Google Search. for me that is one of the biggest battery eaters.

I think if u delete w/o deactive may cause problems xD
try to deactivate, add at build.prop
Code:
ro.semc.enable.fast_dormancy= false
then save and reboot, I can't try it because I'm not rooted xD, but should it work

Thanks!! Maybe I'll give it a try... Hope that Sony will release the new update soon! It was certified 10 days ago! Can't stand the fact that when a Z1/Z Ultra firmware is certified it is released in a few days, while for our loser mid-range phone it takes ages to start the rollout.

I have disabled everything I don't use, but I use Google search everyday. I know that 2 hours of battery is not a big difference, but I don't want my battery to be drained by things I don't use or I don't control.

U can use Google Search, I think the only thing that drains battery is google location services, so u can turn off 'Acces Location' at Google Settings > Location.... at least that solved for me
Also... anybody tried to deactivate fast.dormancy?

For those interested I have written a guide on how to disable Fast Dormancy on the S3. This is for people who are on networks like Telecom NZ where FD is not enabled and causes extra wakelocks.
UPDATED GUIDE as of 2 July, 2012
The guide is now easier than ever before and includes a link to the app created by Gokhanmoral to make this process a one click fix!
I still recommend reading the guide to understand why you would need to disable FD or if you want to make adjustments to the timings.
You can check the guide out here: http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/at-your-own-risk-how-to-disable-fast.html
And discuss below
wow?
you're the first to find this out?
nice work dude, I don't understand why samsung haven't let the user choose if he want the FD or not...
A shorter way is by using root explorer, browse to the nwk info file, then handling the records with sqlite editor.

thank u, for the reverse process?
Damn isnt there a shorter way?
Like a cwm or something?
need to repeat full process every time you upgrade your rom?

I think so
Just a head's up, if you're on AT&T in the states or an AT&T-based prepaid carrier (Straight Talk/Red Pocket Mobile/Go Phone), they support it so disabling it should lead to worse battery life.
How stupid is samsung.why the f... did they remove the ssid code.
BUT
Thanx m8.
I think the easiest way is to modify your preferred csc file(mine is nee) and insert this in new roms you flash.
Maybe because they've\e seen a lot of people disabling Fast Dormancy because they have no clue whatsoever what it is and how great it works.
Then those same people complain about 3G draining their battery in no time because they forced their phones to keep a full-fledged HSPA connection open at all times!
(This of course does not apply to people who imported their phones to a non-supporting carrier or when their carrier has a broken support. But both cases are relatively small when compared to the list of people where it actually works)
You have to check if your carrier supports it though because not all do. Leave it on while on a carrier that doesn't will cause your kernel to wakelock the phone, while turning it off on a carrier that supports it won't wakelock your phone, but it'll use more battery because your phone's radio can't sleep. On my S3, I know AT&T uses FD, but I can also tell because when I'm not using data, H+ jumps down to H, and as soon as I start using data, it jumps back to H+.

Yes that is the method I used originally, however I wanted to find a way where people did not have to flash a new rom.
As to the other question about other methods such as Root Explorer/SQLite Editor being easier - I agree, however those tools are not free. The ones in my guide are.
It's also important to note that if your network supports Fast Dormancy then its not a good idea to disable it, in fact it will decrease your battery life and network performance.
You can probably figure out how to enable FD for your carrier using the guide and a little common sense anyhow.
We need an app that can change it. I'd be willing to buy it for a dollar. It'd be great given how many networks this phone will be used on, and that different ROMs come with different settings enabled and disabled.

That is actually a really great idea. It'd be good if it could also include a database that looks up your current network to see if it is known to support FD or not. Now we need to find an enterprising dev >.>

Fd made my phone battery … 12 hour ,fd wake lock 2hour up ﹐my isp don't support the fd .
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Lost 35% battery last night with fd on, had no choice but to turn it off.
And apparently my network supports fd, I find that hard to believe seeing that secril_fd_interface kept my phone awake for 2 hours outta 9.
As soon as I disabled fd that wakelock disappeared from bbs. Nice find op.

Be careful, not all parts of ATT supports FD... Look at my kernel wakelocks, 6 hours!

Mine does. That's infuriating though, knowing that where you are will affect your battery. Luckily I live in NYC, so I know AT&T definitely has fast dormancy enabled to fight network congestion (which is notorious in Manhattan), but I guess I'll see when I travel outside the city. That would suck though, looking down at your phone and then seeing that your battery is suddenly much lower.

Hi, i m happy for guys who are getting a good battery life. Somehow i couldnot manage to get past 3.5 Hr screen on time and moreover i get endurance of around 20 Hrs from 100%-nearly 10%. I read the reviews and saw that it has great battery life and took it.
What might be the problem?

That issue on moto G is fixed by motorola in 4.4.4 and i didnt come across any such problem in moto E
Phone Wakelock Draining Battery
My Moto E is around 2 weeks old, and off late I've been noticing a problem regarding battery drain. The "Phone" service is consuming a sizable percentage of battery which I have never seen on an Android device earlier. This is leading to significantly reduced screen-time. The phone wakelock somehow seems to be running 24/7, irrespective of whether I've used the dialler application at all or not. Please suggest solutions.
For information...
I installed the latest c firmware (d in build prop) with LG flash tool (NOT UPGRADE), a CLEAN install.
wiped(factory reset) before flashing, then in flash tool cleared and made a CLEAN install and factory reset after to be safe (3 resets) .
Now I get very few screen misses, and screen on time 4.5 hours.
Before this I got screen on time maximum 2,5 hours.
Just wanted to let you guys/Girls in on this as it worked perfect for me and my wife.
Thanks for the placebo

Think I've been around enough to make an accurate judgement, add I'm an recognised developer, I made a hell of a lot of mods and ROM's all developed for two things only battery life with good speed.
You don't have to believe me, what matters is for me, add I got a much better phone.
Hi smaberg,
I was wondering if you are on the Euro 815 version of the G4? Based on your post I'm guessing you are? As a guy who knows what he/she is doing, I was wondering if you could make a flashable zip of the version d firmware? I have a mac and my understanding is you need a pc for the LG flash tool?
Figured I would ask and would greatly appreciate if you could help!!
Do you have the same set of apps installed as you did before the firmware and resets?
I saw better battery results on my second G4 vs my first, some of which I assume was because I installed a lot less apps on the second unit. Which seems reasonable to me.
What device is the OP using?
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
I'm on international 815 (Euro).
Still using the exact same apps(didn't use LG backup Restore as it brings back the old draining Barry problem from my old backup).
And NO I can't make an zip, as it would skip some important steps. I mean I can make it, NO problem, but then you will end up with the exact same problem add the old.
hey Smaberg, can you outline the step to flash the new version? I'm using 815, but since i'm residing in Asia, my phone is not seeing any upgrades.
Yeah i also like to get exact steps you made to flash

I know, but compared to before, with only 2 hours, sometimes even less worth stock a and b I'm pretty ☺ happy, now I'm going to deactivate some junk and see the results, and when I'm done I'll share it.
I'm trying to get the best battery without root, then with root and some of mine scripts and files mod. And we'll see where we stand. In the end maybe an ROM pure made for battery as in the old days. If some still want this? I thought/think people mostly want bling bling and speed...

Hi,
I would definitely be interested in a battery life based ROM. I find that premium phones have more than enough power you need (if youre not a gamer) so as long as the UI is smooth battery life is more important to me.

I don't use it because of the annoying orange colour change... How did you get rid of that??
For the love of god, I was so excited about the S7 and the bigger battery life... I used to get seriously bad battery life out of my Note Edge and with the S7 I was excited I'd finally get a good battery life.. I figured they learned their lesson on battery optimization...
I was wrong....
I'm getting REAL bad battery life out of my S7 and so is my wife. I don't know what to do anymore. I was on the "post your battery life" thread and took up on people's advice and used the package disabler to disable several apps/bloatware, installed greenify to force "aggressive doze" but my phone is just CHOMPING down on the battery. I took some screenshots of GSAM, so I'm hoping someone could help me out...
I might do a factory reset and see how that goes, but I don't think it's going to help anything...
Please please help me. I'm wishing I got the AOSP phone from google now... I do love the water resistance and low light camera (and OIS) though so I would hate to let that go!

I'm gonna do that now. Phone is charging so I can do it...
I just don't get it though. The phone is so new, why should I have to do this?
Where is the "clear cache" thing done from recovery? how do I get to it?

What apps would cause this? It's not like I have some crazy apps. if you look at the GSAM screenshot, they are barely drawing any power. It's everyday apps most of us use.
I don't have anything out of the ordinary
How long have you had your phone? Mine took 5 days before the battery started workign well

You can. Just turn it off until you get your battery under control. Once your battery becomes stabilized then slowly turn things like that on.

100% no it does not.
I have found that although connecting to my home wifi is fine, connecting to the guest wifi at work eats my battery. I now just use my mobile data connection at work. I could see this by using the other graph on gsam and turning the wifi off made a clear and significant change at work but not at home

OK well I did the factory reset and only put the apps I use (which are actually a decent amount from home automation to banking etc)
Android OS is higher compared to what I disabled with package disabler, but we'll see what happens. I'll come back to report in a few days.

You can try to enable the "Smart Network Switch" - there is an option somewhere in Wi-Fi settings. This enables the mobile data if the Wi-Fi connection is unstable/weak, so it avoids eating your battery but at the same time you can benefit from Wi-Fi when possible.
What is shown at App usage in Gsam? Anyways, have you got that since the beginning. If yes and you used smart switch set your device up as a new, also had cruel battery life at first, but after setting the device up from scratch (also set it up as new device at the play store and didn't restore) it got pretty neat.
I thought it was established that package disabler actually made battery life worse on the s7? I was originally using it when I first got the phone and my battery life took a significant dive. Once I uninstalled it and disabled google/samsung reporting as well as wifi/bluetooth scanning, it has solved everything. I am able to get a solid day and 4 hours out of one charge of my s7 Edge.

I use it and it works fine for me. I think it has to do with which packages you disable.
I have just update my device to this fw and I feel that the battery is good now

Do I get it right - you just upgraded, have used it some hours and "feel" that the battery is better now?
Is the screen on time better or is the idle better or both?
Which version did you use previously: 570 or 575?
How bad was your battery?
What is your phone usage scenario (what apps and how much do you use AND how much is the phone in idle)?
How long have you used this 291 version?
I really would like to know...
Feel it's better with the latest update usually I get around a day at the most with the previous update with normal use...my opinion it's better with stamina mode

Sadly the stamina mode is not customizable. It' just on or off. You can't change what you want to keep (for example the vibration). Well, f**k.

Stamina doesn't exclude apps optimization. They work together. One is for the hardware, so you lose vibration, screen optimization and so one. The other optimize the usage of the battery from the apps.
But sadly Stamina is not as powerful as it was with Lollipop
Inviato dal mio Z3 Compact con Tapatalk
That's no STAMINA, it's battery saver from L.
It even shows a ****ing permanent notification - JUST LIKE BATTERY SAVER DID.

Good that you posted the screen on time, because without it it's completely irrelevant to show anything.
Hi,
I'm having quite an issue with battery life since I've updated to version 23.5.A.1.291.
I think I know what's causing it though, as I have accepted some prompt that told me that the charging of the battery will be optimized but the battery life will be negatively affected. Does anyone know how I can reverse this setting?? I've searched a lot but can't seem to find it.
Thanks

calling this stamina mode is an insult to people who buy their phones, literally just a re-branded battery saver already built into the phone , extremely pissed off

Thank you both very much. Hopefully the battery life will return to being good again.
Still no reason to update from 5.0.1 huh? Shame.
Hi,
I actually have build 23.5.A.0.575 rooted, if I upgrade will I loose root?
I stil havent seen it in the netherlands
The "new" stamina mode also disables vibration. I usually have only vibration for calls, texts and calendar alarts. If I have stamina mode on the the phone is completly silent without vibration. Makes the feature totally useless for me.
