What recoveries work with 4.4.2 (NAE)? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I personally love and am so used to TWRP. Just wondering which recoveries work with 4.4.2/NAE (backing up, restoring, flashing ROMs, etc.)?? Thanks in advance.

[Q] Flashing wrong kernel?

Hi XDA.
After growing a pair of balls I've decided tonight is the night that I am going to unroot my phone, put it back to stock ROM and get it off of franco.Kernel. I am doing this because I want to start fresh and get it on Paranoid Android.
(I currently have a January nightly of CM 10.1, franco.Kernel r53 and unlocked bootloader whatnot)
I am looking for the stock kernel for the Nexus 4, but am worried about flashing the wrong one. I'm not saying like I'm going to flash a Samsung kernel or something stupid like that, I just mean that since I am on android 4.2.1 and if I flash a kernel that is made for android 4.2 can I screw up my Nexus 4?
Any tips?
Thanks a ton.
Edwin
As long as the kernel is for the Nexus 4 then you should be okay. You can get all the resources here.

Make a backup if you are worried. What kernel are you going to flash?

Making a backup won't save you if you flash a kernel that's not for your phone

Just flash the stock images from Google. Contains rom, kernel, bootloader, and radio.

make sure your download isn't corrupted and you downloaded for the correct device. Should be fine.
What's the point of going through all the time to unroot and flash back to stock?
Why not just do a full wipe and flash paranoid android?

I was wondering how nobody else asked that question earlier because that's exactly what I'm thinking.
He's going from 4.1 to 4.2 he needs to flash the new bootloader and radio too

I have heard of the digitizer blowing from flashing wrong kernels. I suggest only flashing kernels made for your specific device.

You should add one more ball to that actually make it two more as you are at it. First you should install latest cwm recovery and root your phone. Then go to the recovery and make a backup. After that you can continue with flashing custom Roms and kernels.

Anyone succesfully using CWM

I am having problems with TWRP when I try to install stock roms
So I am thinking about going to CWM( a auto loki version) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956&highlight=cwm
Anyone succesfully flashing roms using CWM?
I've been using it and it works for me , although twrp did too.
Had major issues with twrp..like the UI but it let me down big time when I needed to restore. Had to Odin back to stock. No issues with CWM

I too am confused as to which CWM to use. Any links for SGH-I337 that has Loki exploit already added and such?

So two diffent versions of cwm. Which one are people using. Isn't it better to have the auto Loki version?

I use ouhds auto Loki recovery by shabbypenguin
Sent from my WANAM'ED AT&T S4
wasn't 2.5.0.3 the only troublesome twrp--"2.5.0.2" works fine???
done some reading on the other cwm--not shabby's--it is linked in several places, requiring a lot of reading. But, came away with the impression it is still not fully auto "lokified" for us. May have come to the "wrong" conclusion though. It was late at night when reading threads. Would have to re-read everything--
OUDHS is currently the only CWM with the "auto-loki" feature. PhilZ touch cwm (AT&T version) has been lokied to allow for install, but it does not "auto-loki". The Loki-Doki script needs to be used if the kernel / ROM being flashed through it hasn't already been lokied.

Trouble with phone after flashing.

So I have been flashing Roms since this phone has had the ability to. But recently I decided to flash a Google 4.2.2 ROM. Well, I can't flash any ROM except for Google 4.2.2 or 4.3 and its frustrating because I want to go back to AOKP. Any ideas how to fix this?

Also. To further clear it up. When I flash another ROM the phone sticks at the custom screen. Doesn't bootloop, doesn't shut off. Just sits there.

Flash the rom back you wanted, and before you boot, FLASH THE AOSP ATT KERNEL FOR YOUR DEVICE. It will boot.
You did say aosp you wanted to go back to, if it is a TW rom, flash tw.
Thank you. Your Welcome.

I flash AOKP with the stock underwear kernel. I don't think that flashing the AOSP att kernel would effect it though. I've never ran into this problem with my past 3 phones. EVO 4G, EVO 4G LTE, and my SIII

You also didn't have locked bootloader on the others.
if you do not use loki doki or loki kernel, you will continue to hang at the boot screen.
Good point. I forgot about that.

Flashify okay now?

I'm getting my G2 on Monday. A month or two ago I read these forums religiously when I was trying to decide what to upgrade to it was highly recommend not to use flashify to install TWRP. Now Im reading a lot about people using flashify. Has something changed? Has the common consensus changed? Thanks for any input.

Used it for CWM. Everything else I do through CWM.
I can't remember exactly what the issue was. Something happening after the fact. It was removed from options in the twrp guide. Maybe that was with an older version of twrp

I actually used flashify to install TWRP on my At&t D800. I downloaded the .img and flashed recovery through flashify. Although you NEED root AND busybox installed. This method worked fine for me.

Where did you downloaded TWRP img & what is the version of your G2 ? Would like to try it if it is fine. Thanks.
If you don't want any problems or are timid and scared of recovery hard flash, do as citytrader suggests. It is very easy. Some people, like me, can be lazy and purposely risky with certain things and go the easy, tinkering, and sometimes damaging route. ;]

One simple wrong line of code, something not playing well, no recovery. How isn't it besides pushing actual legit perfect line yourself.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately my version, d802b, doesn't supported.
Done it twice. Both before and after OTA. No problems either time. (Second time was after a brick rescue due to my incompetence.)

@ce250 if i were u ....odin to stock mk2 first follow my thread and start all over again .....rooting and reinstall Safestrap v 371....always create rom slot1 first to see if the rom boot up......and then u can always make backup and restore to stock slot if u want it. Unless it noted for stock slot.... PM sent...:thumbup:

Which roms did you try to flash exactly? You said you flashed through TWRP, you mean safestap? TWRP outside of Safestrap will not work. You need to provide more details if you really want people to be able to help you. Our S4 is not like the phones we had before with unlocked boot loaders. This thing is a pain in the ass, but thanks the great knowledge & efforts of the developers here, we have so many options to flash custom roms
Yes this is much different than my other phones. I tried deadly venom 139, vision x, and hyperdrive. Yes I rebooted to recovery through safestrap

Well I suggest the following. Start over. Use a different computer, use a different usb cable, & then download fresh drivers, Safestrap, rom. & mk2 modules. Who knows, but maybe the downloads you got are bad. Stick with the At&t versions as they tend to go easier. Also don't let experience guide you. Instead, follow the developers instructions. I've lost count how many times I've flashed my Skyrocket but I know how many times I've flashed my S4 cause damn boot loader has me on pins & needles every time. Well not so much since we have the mk2 tar files. Good luck & please post your results.
OK thanks ill give this a go. Might take me some time to get to a different computer and post results.
