[Q] How do I remove the "System Update" notification? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm rooted on stock JB (T-Mobile). I recently got the notification for a new system update (KK). I do not want to upgrade until Xposed is functioning and some other bugs are fixed. In the mean time, I cannot swipe away this notification or reboot it away. On other brands, I could go to device manager apps in Titanium, wipe app data, and freeze it. I cannot find a similar app on this phone. Does anyone have any idea how to remove this annoying notification that I accidentally hit multiple times throughout the day? Thanks!

I used app quarantine and it worked just fine for me. Im on a custom rom now so i dont know which apps ive frozen with it but i know that the notification went away eventually.
EDIT: And please use the search function next time because there are already threads about this.

System Settings > Apps > Google Services Framework > Uncheck Show Notifications.
You can use Root Browser or similar and go into the Cache and delete the OTA update too.

I would like to know too! Running SACS V8. Have no desire to update. Would like to know how / where to remove the update from the phone.
freeze SprintID
Well, as far as I know, if you are running a custom recovery (twrp, cwm, etc.) you can click to update. However it will fail because of the custom recovery and should stop bugging you about the update.
I also believe there is a way using root explorer you can delete a certain file, then when you click to update nothing runs. That though you'd have to search for more details.

First I froze fwupdate.apk using Titanium Backup like most threads say to. I think that only prevents it from downloading, but if the update file has already been downloaded, then you'll continue to get notifications.
I then deleted the actual update file from the \cache folder. Still shows under Notification.
So then I removed Notifications from the actual app that displays it - called Google Services (or something like that - don't have phone with me so can't look right now - but you can long-press on the notification to get App Info, then go in and remove Notifications).
Edit: Apparently you don't have to remove all notifications from Google Services, just clear the cache. Btw, my phone is rooted and I had already removed SprintDM.apk and ALL other Sprint related stuff (SprintID, etc) and it still downloaded the update and prompted me.
I woke up on Fri with the update icon on my phone . I'm on mf9 and not ready to update just yet.
This is what I did to get rid of the update notification.
Using root exp go into etc/security/and change otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bat
Then go to system/app/and change SprintDM.apk to SprintDM.apk.bak
I then went into recovery and wiped delvik and cache then rebooted
When it rebooted the icon was still there so I restarted the phone and after it rebooted the icon was gone.

Long press it in the notification tray and then tap "app info" after that uncheck show in notifications.

So I got the update notification again! I had already removed SprintID long ago (and all other Sprint apps) and frozen fwupdate.apk.
Somehow my phone still downloaded the update zip again. I can only think it has to do with one of the Samsung apps which I kept.
Anyways, decided to go into system/build.props and change all the MF9 to MFA. Let's see what happens now. Going to keep Google Services Framework notification on to test.
Well, I changed the build.props file and it cold rebooted fine to the lockscreen but once I enter my pattern code, the screen seems to go completely blank. I have to press the power button twice to go back to the lock screen again. Seems it doesn't like you changing MF9 to MFA in the build.props file!!!!!
Now how to change it back without having to do a restore.....can't see anything or do anything within the phone app itself since screen is blanked out. Any ideas anyone?
Edit: Nevermind, a hard shut down and reboot seems to have fixed whatever glitch that was. Odd....
Fotakill.apk, that worked for me when I was on MDL
Don't know if it works on MF9.

Another update for Z3

Another update!
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Softw...mware-update-for-the-Xperia-Z3-and/m-p/980932
Ensured the lock screen / notification bar doesn’t indicate “no service” when the device has coverage
Added a Sony feature; bringing back the "close-all-button" in the activity menu, so you can easily close all apps at once
Unblocked devices with server policies (such as Exchange Active Sync for e-mail), to enable the new Lollipop lock-screen notifications
Ensured the LED light is lit across all sound modes - and no longer offset by “silent”
Made the necessary fixes to enable the easy movement of content from internal memory to external microSD card (something we saw affecting a few devices)
Improved messaging functionality in Ultra stamina mode – some conversations could not be opened before in Ultra stamina mode
Finally a fix for the lockscreen notifications not showing if syncing Exchange with locking code policy!
Already flashed a rooted zip and running flawlessly with Xposed and everyhing
The notifications should have been fixed in 23.1.A.0.726 though, but I never got around to try it(it never appeard in OTA either).
Quick question, if I update using OTA will I loose root and recovery?

No you wont lose root or recovery if you OTA update just make sure you've not deleted any of the pre-installed apps other wise the OTA will fail to install.

Hey, I have the same thing.
I'm rooted and just checked, that I have uninstalled the "small apps" components. Do I need to install them to get rid of this annoying notification or other steps could be taken?
Edit:
I managed to close it with titanium, just hit "backup" on update center. However, before that I changed the setting 'don't update automatically'.
Cheers.

Where did you get the flashable zip? Can you point me to it? I've done all kinds of tweaks like removing system apps, so I can't use the official updater.
Edit: Found one here, haven't tried it yet tho... https://mega.co.nz/#!aZgC3K6A!vB5ZJplEq0Hlk5zgt1rqFYeanrhP_NYXnKfd0sA3xt4

I made my own zip. Glad you find one!
Can you provide the zip
Omnikai has already posted a link to one..
Can I just flash that over what I'm currently using? do I need to wipe anything?! I don't want to lose my application data
I flashed the zip I made myself without loosing anything, just wiped dalvik/cache.
Can you possibly upload the one you made??!
It's a Norwegian/Telenor specific rom, I guess you'd rather have the Nordic Generic from that link
And I don't have the zip available here, and no places to uploads.. Sorry.

If you mean "update service" I tried to backup and it says insufficient storage space even though I have 6gb.
Is it safe to freeze the service? or is there another way
Thanks

How to stop Verizon new OTA which will not load anyway?

I have a rooted S7 Verizon and for the past week get a message after every reboot that there is an update that it wants to install.
If I tell it to go ahead, it will fail. But that is not the end of it, as it will ask me again and again to install (now or later). How do I delete this downloaded OTA or prevent it from re-asking if I want to install? What can freeze (Anttek manager app) or delete to solve this?
I'm running Android 7.0, build BQA4, SM-G930V phone
Thanks.
I had the same problem and same situation Verizon S7 Rooted. I went to the application manager and selected from right hand upper corner show system apps. Scroll down to System Updates app and force stop it. To make sure I didn't get any notifications while inside the app in the application manager select hide notifications for the app. Then in Titanium Backup freeze the app and it should bother you no more. Hope that helps.
Freezing both system update programs using Titanium did seem to stop the warning.

How to disable Moto G5 Plus Update Notification?

Keep getting the update pops up and I dont want to update. Is there a way to disable the update itself?
I tried App Settings > System Apps > Moto Update Services, Force stopped but there isnt Freeze or disable Options like my S8. Any ideas?
Thanks!
I froze it in Titanium Backup. That is if you're rooted of course.
Why don't you just update what's the point in not updating when there is an update.
This is under the developer options. It bugged me too.
I'd have a street party if mine said there was an update, i think it is a myth and no updates actually exist.

What option stops the notification? Disabling automatic system updates will still prompt you occasionally to update if there is an update pending.
Using Titanium Backup, I assume freezing Motorola Update Services should be the only app required, correct?
If I wanted an opinion on whether or not I should perform the update, I would have referred to the "should I perform the update" thread - not the "How to disable the G5 plus update notification".
Seems like a very simple thing to understand, no?
Here is the real answer:
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.motorola.ccc.ota
Ok, but more clarification please.

Got a new Moto G5 plus (unlocked) with 7.0. Spouse accidentally downloaded update BUT caught the error before installing the update, and did not install. The file is apparently on the phone and now badgers us constantly to install. I want to halt the automatic update process and remove the downloaded update file. I have disabled automatic updates under the 'Developer Options' as you say, but the notice continues, even after reboot. I suspect it is because the update is now resident on the phone and triggers the process, even though it has been switched off under developer options. This phone has not been rooted. I guess the fix will require rooting, but I'm apprehensive about what method is the most current and reliable, specifically for this phone. Any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Til then, a billion annoyances.
Same issue here - and the update notification is extremely aggressive. It will interrupt anything I'm doing, including videos/music on YouTube.
I vaguely recall reading somewhere that we need to flash a stock recovery and boot.img temporarily, but I don't know if that's accurate. I'm wondering if I should just wipe it and install Unofficial LineageOS.
For clarity, at least in my case:
Phone is rooted
TWRP Recovery
Custom boot.img
Stock ROM
EDIT: I'm trying NeoGeo's advice and freezing Motorola Update Services using Titanium Backup.

Still receiving update notifications on OOS 11.0.4 after freezing apps in titanium

Heya, the two apps I've frozen and have worked for me in the past are dynamic system updates and system updates. I did this right after installing magisk on my fresh stock install, but still I'm getting update notifications once a day, any ideas?
remove/disable
/system/priv-app/DynamicSystemInstallationService
/system/product/app/DynamicDDSService
/system/app/OPBackup
Whats the reason to stay on 11.0.4?
I just don't want to deal with constant updates breaking things, so I typically stay on a version as long as I can for stability. Strange though, I don't seem to have any of backup on the device. I did find a way to clear the system updates cache so I'm gonna give that a go for now and see if maybe that was the problem

I used to delete mentioned apps and the only thing left was a message in settings menu that a update is aviable
