How do I restore backup without custom recovery - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I flashed the lg g2 kit kat stock and super user so I have root but of course lost custom recovery. I did make a backup on my phone before I did so. I can go to stock recovry and see their is an option for restoring backup but the file is empty. I located the file using root explorer and try to move it to the cache folder where stock recovery is looking for back up but the space allotted is not big enough for my backup file so it will not let me move. So the question is simple can someone point me or shall I say show me how to restore m backup please. Thanks in advance

currently kitkat on the g2(all models) does not support custom recovery so no

You'll have to save your backup on your computer, flash back to jellybean, then root it and install recovery, then you'll be able to restore the backup. Even if you could stuff the thing into cache I don't know if the stock recovery would be capable of flashing it.

[Q] How can I backup the original firmware?

Is there a way that I can backup the original firmware and recovery, so that I can revert to it through Mobile Odin in case there is a problem with the update to ICS?
Thanks!
i would use CWM to make a backup.
You could try to download it

Thanks. I already backed with CWM, but I don't know how to restore the default recovery (remove CWM) if I need the warranty. Nevermind, I hope I won't need to anyway.
download original firmware and flash. Then it's set to bring to store

ok... does any body know how to delete the backup file (generated from cwm recovery)?
Go to your sdcard. Navigate to clockworkmod folder and backups
Delete

"image" backup

I want to experiment with flashing different ROMs and kernels, but I would like a quick and easy way of restoring my stock 4.1.2 ROM with all my settings/apps if I need to. I tried to do this with Titanium Backup, but after flashing back to stock I had to wipe data and cache and when I reinstalled Titanium backup there was no apps/settings.
Is there any way to make an "image" of my default environment which I can then flash from recovery?
Create a backup(nandroid)
You will need a custom recovery installed, doing this will give you a complete system image and restoring it will put your phone back to the exact state it was in when you made the backup

Thanks, I have made a backup using CWM Recovery. I also selected the "create image.zip" option - I assume that I can flash that .zip and be back to the current state after playing with some ROMs?

Not sure about that option as I use quote an old recovery that doesn't have that option unfortunately, so can't help you there

Ok, I made both backups (the normal .tar and the image.zip). One more question though - the last time I flashed the stock ROM (using Odin), I had to wipe data and cache because the phone got stuck in a boot loop. If I restore from backup and have to wipe data and cache again, won't this render the whole restore useless (i.e. I will go back to default state)?

Assistance going back to stock

So I've tried all the custom ROMS under the sun and I'd like to go back to stock. Not AOSP, but stock retail Android. I downloaded the factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occam however I'm wondering how I can go back to stock without:
1. Loosing Root
2. Erasing all my apps and settings
Is this even possible? If so, what's the best way to go back it?

1. Backup apps and app data using Titanium Backup, then copy the Titanium Backup folder to a PC
2. Flash back to stock using this guide
3. You will lose custom recovery and root by doing the above, so download a recovery and then use "fastboot boot recovery nameofrecovery.img" to temporarily boot into it
4. From there you can flash a root.zip
5. Reinstall Titanium Backup and copy the backup of the Titanium Backup folder from the PC back to the phone.
6. Use Titanium Backup to restore app and app data.

HELP!!! :'( Restore only apps and data from nandroid?

Hey guys!
So yesterday, I installed the app 'Android Control Center'. I messed around with a few settings and ended up in a bootloop. I do not have anything backed up in Titanium backup. So I made a nandroid backup in the hope that id be able to restore my apps out of that by using nandroid manager, but all of my app data were not extracted from the nandroid. So now im planning to restore the nandroid backup and use TWRPs file manager to remove that apk and its data. Are there any other things I should do to fix this problem? Will this work??
Guys, any help is appreciated!!!
Hardly believe that app can cause your system into bootloop... anyway, if you want to try.
Titanium Backup can restore apps from Nandroid backup, preferably CWM tar backup. However, this function is currently having issues with Android 4.3, so if you want to reflash the ROM, pick ROM with 4.2.2.
I believe TWRP backup should also works, but I haven't try it before. If you need to use TWRP, do it without compression & encryption.
IMO your problem can be a simple fix by remove the faulty app and reflash the ROM.
just reflash your rom via recovery, dont wipe, you wont lose any data
Alright thanks for the response. I copied my TWRP backup to my PC, extracted it and now I'm trying to copy the data folder from my TWRP backup to my ROM's data folder. Hopefully, this will work.
PS - I removed the app and i reflashed the rom but that didn't seem to fix the problem.

[HELP] Screwd up nandroid

Hello guys!
I was updating from 4.4.4 to lollypop via OTA, then I realized that even if I run the stock ROM, I am still unlocked + root, meaning that the OTA won't run.
I did a complete nandroid backup via Wugs Nexus Toolkit, including data.
Then I wiped and flashed the new 5.0 via Nexus Toolkit, but when I tried to restore only the data it didn't work.
I decided to go back to 4.4.4. and do things properly, but now I'm not able to restore anything.
I am not bothered with the apps and stuff, but I had plenty of pictures which I forgot to backup, and I want to restore them. I even tried to access the nandroid backup files, but no success!
I was accustomed with the old CMW, where you had the .img files, but I got no clue on what to do here!
I add the picture of the nandroid backup folder on my PC ( I think the data files are splitted, but I cannot open them in any case, not even with 7zip).
The nandroid was executed via Nexus Toolkit, but I guess it has been done through TRWP.
Long story short:
1) how can I access the pictures inside the nandroid backup?
2) how can I restore a nandroid backup that keeps failing?

Maybe CWM does things differently, I don't know, but with TWRP, a Nandoid backup doesn't back up your SD card partition, so if you wiped everything, all your pics are gone. Sorry.
Yeah, I guess so.. Managed to recover something with DISK DIGGER (its an app, free on the store). Just wanted to write it here, so if anyone has the same issue can recover this way!
