Hey guys, so I bought a brand new S4 from walmart the other day, they guys said it was unlocked and my telus sim worked like a charm but when I put it a mobilicity sim it said that it was invalid and asked for an unlock code. Now I know that mobilicity uses AWS etc etc but from what I've heard it should work just that the network would be crappy, but for me it doesn't work at all, my phone rejects the sim. I tried the tutorial posted in this section on unlocking the AWS band but with no success. I'm trying to get this to work for my girlfriend's upcoming birthday so any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
As far as I know, Walmart does not sell an unlocked Galaxy S4 and neither does any retail store in Canada besides online shops.
Since your phone is requesting an unlock code, you have two options.
Either use the free unlock method posted here on the forums or purchase a code online.
Regarding the AWS frequency unlock for your phone, I believe one of the prerequisites is an unlocked phone in order for it too work.

Just to clarify, you are mixing terminology:
Unlocked phone - you can use "any" SIM, but you may not get 3G or 4G speed on all carriers due to frequencies - in the USA, I can unlock my AT&T phone to take a T-mo SIM, but it will not get the faster speeds of T-MO
AWS unlock - unlock the phones radio to support additional frequencies. After unlocking the phone to support a T-mo SIM, I can unlock the AWS bands to allow for faster speeds when using a T-mo SIM.
What did you pay for the phone? If it was full price (about $600) then it is possible you could have bought (or paid for) an unlocked phone. If it was a $200 phone, then it is guaranteed to be locked to a particular carrier.

He mentioned that it was a Canadian phone in his post. He said his Telus SIM which came with it worked in it and Telus is a Canadian carrier.

Hello, I am new to the xda forums and I thought I'd ask you knowledgeable folk about my dilemma. I currently live in Canada and am going to purchase an unlocked Galaxy Note 3 from Negri Electronics. I was about to buy the N9005, I presume that works on Bell's LTE service correct? Because I saw also on the site a Samsung N900W8 Galaxy Note 3 LTE 32GB (Bell) (Unlocked).. which confused me. Will the n9005 work on my LTE network or do I have to buy the second one? Thank you.
you need LTE on 1700MHz/AWS for Bell... N9005 does not this.
N900W8 is better if you want LTE
Hey guys,
so I live in Canada and the note 3 model available here is the n900w8 which is approximately 700 plus tax. But I can get the N900t unlocked for $650 tax included.
I tried to Google if both phones work on the same frequencies and as far as I can tell, both phones have the exact same specs.
My question is will the N900t work on all the Canadian networks like the n900w8 or will there be compatibility issues? which model should I get?

That I can tell there is a difference in the LTE bands between the 2 models so if you want to run rogers you need the n900w8. If using wind looks like the t mobile will work but wind does not have lte. If you want to be able to hop back and forth between different Canadian carriers better off with the n900w8 it would seem, I am looking at exactly the same situation by the way.

Thanks for the reply, I already went ahead and bought the T-Mobile one, I doubt I'll be switching to Rogers or bell as their prices are ridiculous, I was struck in a contract with those guys for years and will never go back.

Doing some more research the n9008w may require different radios if you changing from wind to rogers etc and also looks like the 900t from t mobile can be made to work with either wind, rogers, etc but again will need to root, add different radios etc. Currently I use Fido with a note 1 ATT and Rodgers is throttling the network as last year I could get 40mb on LTE now down to 10MB, it seems Wind will give 20mb on 3g and Rodgers or Fido wont gaurentee anything better so it doesnt matter if its on 3g or LTE its still going to likely be 20mb speed anyway. Most sites cannot give you faster downloads anyway so paying more is pointless, it only benefits the service provider.
Telus LTE

Yea LTE is the only difference.
I have the N900W8 from Telus and it works with Wind and mobilicity
but only on 4G
Of course when i insert a rogers telus bell or other carrier sim i can still retain my LTE cuz that is what my model is.
I have an old legacy with TELUS but I still pay 72 after tax. I still keep unlimited this and that and 6GB data.
This new 2 YEAR plan thing is a load of bs.
Hi, I am aware that Rogers' i337M (Galaxy S4) can be unlocked to work with Wind or Mobilicity, and unlocked Rogers Galaxy Note 3 can work with Wind or Mobilicity as well.
Now my question is, do they have same internal hardwares? e.g. CPU/GPS chip etc.
The reason for me to ask is, I need to decide whether to purchase the S4 or Note 3 from Wind. If the hardware is different, then I better buy Rogers version and unlock it, because Rogers or big 3 versions has larger community supports so I can get more custom ROMs 2 years down the road.
Thoughts?

I would first check to be 100% certain that the LTE bands are 100% compatible. Actually the 2G/3G bands too
I am ATT customer. I am considering buying the Samsung S5 and am trying to decide between G900A and G900T.
I understand G900A is meant for ATT and G900T is meant for T mobile.
I read also that G900A does not have LTE 900 band.
Can someone explain to me, if I am better off with G900T even though I am on AT&T - because I travel internationally.
For example, in the case of Note 3, I was told that N900T was better than N900A, even though I am on ATT and the N900T - note 3 Tmobile version works just fine on ATT.
I am wondering if the same applies for G900a also?
My primary use for the, rooted, unlocked G900T is on AT&T network... 90% of the time. 10% of the time for international travel.
Is it true that G900T is better than G900A for my purpose - something about G900T having an extra LTE brand and that it is easier to unlock than G900A?

I dont think i understand fully what youre trying to say. Are you trying to decide which phone is better for international use?
i ordered the samsung s5 N900T.
I am not certain but I thought I read that the boot loader is locked on n900A -ATT and not so on Tmobile version and also that N900T has an extra LTE band.. I didn't double check on all of this but based on what I read, I felt that it was better to buy N900T, even for AT&T.
Those of you, in the same predictament - just buy N900T!
