Hi all just flashed the latest JVB, and noticed that there has been a new option added to the Market preferences:
"Receive interest based Ads"
It is enabled by default and turns out that it means google will track your activities, to enable them to target you with better ads "aka spam".

This is apparent on stock XEU 2.2.1 JPY as well.
At least they've given us an option not to
I've unticked it. Hell with that.
That's an updated version of the market app - and has actually nothing to do with the ROM...
Kind regards,
ww
actually google do this a long time ago, just add a options to disable it in the new market app.
If you read the fine prints carefully, you will see that Google will store your data regardless of whether you opt-in or not. The only difference is that you can choose whether they will use that information to influence the ads you see. Either way your history is on Google's server.
Enjoy your paranoia guys.

What are the recommended apps to disable and/or get rid of? I did a factory reset because of nasty wake locks and trying to figure everything that can be disabled without losing features or anything. I know some of this is subjective, but still like some ideas. Thanks.

Until I can completely remove some bloat, I have the following turned off so far. It's by no means a thorough list.
Accessories
Audible
BlurbCheckout
Calculator (installed 3rd party Calculator)
Caller Name ID
Cloud
FamilyBase Companion
Google Play Books
HP Print Service Plugin
Message+ (Didn't even bother to figer out what this is before I killed it)
Messages (installed Hangouts and/or 3rd party messagin app)
My InfoZone
NFL Mobile
Smart Remote (downloaded the latest WatchOn app from Samsung)
Swype
Verizon Location Agent
Verizon Support and Protection
Verizon Tones
VZ Navigator
As far as the text-to-speech deletion goes, just uninstall whichever ones you don't anticipate needing.
Settings>Language and Input>text-to-speech options>Listen to an example. Really it's personal preference, and uninstalling unused tts voice data only serves to free up internal storage. For example, the "high quality" female English US voice for Google TTS is 244MB, The Samsung high quality voice data is around 90MB per language/gender.

Samsung has launched s5 devices with less permissions do to whatever you want! So maybe you have to root your device (which is not possible right now bcoz it will cut your warranty out) So another solution for it is try to search for an app on play store which disables system applications! Without root
I've turned off the following:
Accessories
Audible
Blurb Checkout
Caller Name ID
Family Base Companion
Flipboard
Google Play Books
Google Play Newsstand
IMDb
Isis Mobile Wallet
My InfoZone
My Magazine
NFL Mobile
Samsung Link Platform
Slacker
Smart Remote
VZ Navigator
This is my complete list... everything still works (except the Samsung bloat crap like S-voice and the verizon garbage pre-loaded). I did turn off some Google apps that were needless, and the Samsung fitness stuff (e.g. ANT+ connection, fitness, etc.), in addition to other things (S-pen, fonts, etc.)

I believe samsung billing is for app purchases through their proprietary app store
Samsung Link is a protocol for connecting only with samsung TV's/laptops - has functionality for screen-mirroring, DLNA only with samsung branded devices.
Samsung Galaxy... I'm not entirely sure what it does to be honest. I've tested fairly extensively if any functionality / apps / services are broken as a result, and everything still seems to work fine. I have a suspicion that this is related to a tutorial/demo function.

Downloads app is just an app that shows a history/list of everything you've recently downloaded (e.g. in the downloads folder). I prefer to use ESFileExplorer as it's more versatile as a file manager, and I don't care for an app that tracks file downloads/history.
In previous android versions, I believe the Media app was part of what cached/listed files such as images (thumbnails), music files, docs, etc. I vaguely recall disabling it in the past to find that all my MP3's and photos no longer appeared in the gallery/google music app. I would not disable it if my memory serves me correctly.
Yeah, your battery usage looks about in-par with mine. I came from a GNex and was used to seeing display always overtaking androidOS/systemUI (man, that phone had atrocious battery life and screen-on time)... the GS5 has such a great power-sipping display that I came to the same surprise as you to find it ranks on-par/sometimes below OS usage in a normal day. The battery life on this phone rocks.
EDIT: Media usage will sometimes spike if you've recently added a bunch of new files (photos, mp3's, etc.) to your device, as it's scanning/caching/indexing lists to the files. I'd give it a day or two if that's the case, and you'll see it won't consume much of anything once things are static on your phone.

Oh OK. I see. So perfectly safe to disable downloads. What about the media app itself? Do you have it disabled? That screen shot with the high media usage, I'm not sure we have it was so high. It's first time it has been like that and I haven't added any more music. Another question.
Do You Know What The Chrome sandbox is? And does your keyboard ever do that thing with the capital letters?

I don't have the media app disabled and wouldn't recommend it. I also wouldn't disable chrome sandbox ( though I'm not sure of its function, its installed alongside the app so it may be a plugin for other apps).
Not sure what keyboard caps problem you're referring to. I use only the android keyboard (not Samsung nor Swype).
New google play services has been released. Some features listed below along with the mirrored .apk file
Google Maps Street View API
First off in Play Services 4.4,*we have a brand new API for Google Maps Street View. This will allow application developers to embed Street View imagery into any Android application activity.*Doing so, your users will then be able to have the same in-app experience as what’s currently possible through Street View in Google Maps, including 360 degree panning, zooming, and so on.
Activity Recognition
Next up, we have Activity Recognition. No, this isn’t regarding Android application activities. Rather, a new feature in Google’s Location API is able to detect whether you are*running or walking, given sensor data. This is in addition to the API’s previous ability to tell if you’re driving, biking, on foot, still, or actively tilting. This functionality can also be combined with the new Street View API for highly immersive mapping-based apps.
Game Services Update
You may recall that Google Play Services 4.3 brought Game Gift functionality. Today’s update changes the sending UI to allow users to select multiple game gift recipients for added collaboration and social engagement.
Wallet Fragments
Play Services 4.4 refines the preexisting Instant Buy API to reduce the amount of work involved in placing a “Buy With Google” buttin in your app. This is all thanks to the new*WalletFragment API, which allows you to simply configure the provided*fragments and add them to your app.
Mobile Ads
Finally, there’s a new set of APIs for app developers to display in-app promo ads. These new promo ads allow developers to target particular subsets of users, and only send the ads to users who may be interested in purchasing.

UPDATING
Q: How should I update my Phone? (To Android 4.4.2)
A: If you're updating via Update Service or PC Companion, do a fresh install (literally, I mean. FACTORY RESET) .
Q: I just flashed my phone and now it's full of lag.
A: Step 1: Debloat Firmware, Step 2: Do a factory reset, Step 3: Force GPU Rendering in Dev. Options, Step 4: Restart your Phone.
AFTER UPDATE
Q: My battery drains by Google Play Services (GMS) what can I do?
A1: Disable Google Location Services in Settings > Locations (You can do this when you boot up your Phone for the first time after update too.)
A2: Update GMS (Latest version is: 4.4.52): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms
Q: I can't write to my external SD Card. F U SONY. - (This isn't by Sony, Google decided to slowly kill MicroSD support on Android :silly
A: If you're rooted use this fix: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
Q: After updating many of my Apps are FC'ing (May happen if you didn't do a clean install)
A: Do a fresh install with a factory reset.
Q: My battery drains so quickly, 4.3 is much better.
A: Do a fresh install with a factory reset, I have been using KitKat since launch day and my battery easily lasts 2 days using the phone on a daily routine.
Q: My phone lags on the HomeScreen.
A: This may be caused by the new Xperia Live Wallpaper, if you change the wallpaper for a fixed one it should solve the problem. Plus, you can keep the LW as Lockscreen Wallpaper. Looks Good, Feels Good.

Or rather, what is the impact of disabling it- what functions do i lose?

Sadly yes as those (Google Now cards) are directly dependant on GPS (Location Services) to display information. Also when using Google maps (as a GPS) or Checking in in apps like Foursquare they won't be able to retrieve exact location. This leaves the user with 3 options.
1) Install a 3rd party Google Services fix to stop the battery drain (I don't know about one but I have seen some posts here on XDA)
2) Turn on Location Services only when needed (It can be turned on/off by Quick Settings tab on notification panel on the Location tile.)
3) Wait till Google launches a new version of Google Services with more bugfixes.

Thanks man Right now I'm using miui 9.5.10 on Redmi note 4 I really like this version on global stable ,this is literally the best version after miui 8.2.10 in terms of battery as well as performance,I just want to debloat with some inbulit gapps except Chrome and Gmail, rest of the gapps I literally don't use should I debloat this rom miui 9.5.10 or either use xiaomi.eu version 9.5.10 for my Redmi note 4 cause their might be some issues or problems after maybe uninstalling inbulit apps and also will I get better battery life If I use xiaomi.eu since it doesn't have any inbulit gapps and I'll download only those gapps that I use!
Thks in advance

It has a repeated notification when downloading apps in playstore. Even if im on wifi its still warns that i should downaload only wifi. It warns every app as big even though its small. Although in this screenshot im on data. But even on wifi and the download is just small around 16mb

It's working for me in WhatsApp and VLC.
If you are using pip checker apps they may not work because they check if your Android version is > 8.0. But MIUI has implemented it in version 10 regardless of Android version.
