Contrast - G Pad 8.3 General

Here's a comparison of the difference in contrast achievable by using the Screen Adjuster app. Those in this forum who have mentioned the lack of detail and darkness when watching video may find this useful.

I can too confirm that using screen adjuster apk. is giving results for watching videos. You can turn it on and off whenever you need it, it has not perfect results as ones we all hope that our great dev wizards will make with making a new kernel with an adjustable gama contrast. Till then this is quite good

For the time being i am using only the contrast between -48 and -50 and brightness at 68%. One of these days i am going to try Faux 123 Kernel Enhacment apk. and Trickste MOD kernel settings apk. for these two aps some members did report very good results. Will report when i do

Corrects gamma, aka the ramp between zero and 255, it does not help the fact that the gpad is shipped default at 16-235 contrast scale. The screen adjuster app can stretch it back out to 0-255 ( get about 2-253).

In the 4.6 tool chain the gamma correction is not, correct...
This has been fixed in 4.7 with at least 4.2.2. Its above my head to say the 4.7 chain in 4.4 kernel is fixed. I have not done AB tests with a 4.6/4.7 kernel.
Basically without the fix you loose shadow detail and some times bright puffy clouds can look greyish.
However without contrast adjustment you will still have crushed blacks and whites, like an amplifier clipping, regardless of gamma correction.
You could say gamma correction is the sensitivity to change in brightness.
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/gamma-correction.htm
If you want to check your gamma, download display tester and look at the gamma patterns. In non corrected displays the lines will merge at 1.0, in stock 4.2.2 they should merge around 1.8. In a perfect world they should merge at 2.2, but in pcs its normally around 2.0, which is what im getting.

So this kernel adjusts contrast too or just shifts gamma a bit

Just checked on display tester and you are correct gamma is now around 2 for me. Previously was closer to 1.6. Doors this man I now will no longer have black crush in darker scenes with loss of shadow detail? Haven't had much chance to watch video on it yet.

Just shifts gamma. Im not a coder so i dont know how to adjust contrast with a compile or a init.d script.

How to test your tab.
1. Go in to a pitch black room.
2. Set brightness to the lowest value.
3. Google black images, and scroll trough them.
You should see 6 medium circles, 2 small and hundreds of black dots.
yeah i have it too, but doesnt bother me as i rarely am on fully black apps/pages

Not a hint of backlight?
That might be because of the 7.7 doesn't have any backlighting...
My screen is absolutely fine, too. For 3 months now.
Yeah I have the same thing on mine and had it on my Note as well. Never really bothered me.
Using the 7.7 in a totally black room with brightness at minimum and viewing totally black web pages is a ridiculous situation which says nothing about the 7.7 in every day use.

After some more reading, I decided to keep my "faulty" tab. This is not a big deal after all. Plus there is this problem on S II, and one is complaining. I agree that it is bad that there is this problem, but now I think its minor, and the samoled panel is still gorgeous 90% of the time I use it.

HTC One camera purple tint possible fix

Just want to let every developer know, I have a possible way to fix the purple tint.
This is my findings...
When you set your saturation and explosure to -1, the purple tint just gone. But saturation -1 seems too much for the photo. It is ideal to have -0.5 or somthing.
It is nice that if a developer know how to modify the Camera setting and make it default.

Hey,
Tried it on mine and it didn't had that much of a dent.

It definitely has to do something with the saturation..
My resaults:
1. Saturation -2 others 0 - no purple tint but white tint on the sides.
2. Saturation -2 contrast +2 - no purple tint at all and even less white tint! Though i didn't try to snap a photo.
3. Saturation +2 - my screen is ****ing red!!
Or set ISO to 100 and it goes away too.
It's annoying. I had a phone replaced because it had really bad blue and sometimes purple tints in low light pics.
The replacement was fine. I then upgraded to 4.3 (ARHD) with the newest firmware (3.22) and the problem has returned. I still have a nandroid of 4.2.2 so may downgrade.

Funny, i still think this is hardware related, while many people report that at ISO 100 it disappears mine still shows it, even with this trick mine was still pink unless the saturation was at -2 which turns pictures black and white.
It's deft hardware related, not software.. The setting adjustments you talk about might 'lessen' the haze, bit it ruins the picture.. They are bad/wrongly positioned sensors within the phone itself. Unfortunately
*s¡gned
I think it's heat related. Seems that the red /purple gets worse when phone is running hot
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk 2
Mine is stone cold and it still happens. Since it didn't happen prior to the 4.2.2 update, it definitely isn't a hardware issue.
Firmware related?
Sent from my One using Tapatalk 4
I'm fairly sure it is a software issue. I heard somewhere that every camera sensor does this (I think it as in a anandtech podcast) and it is then taken care if in software to make it look good. If this is true then HTC did a pretty bad job of mapping the sensors characteristics.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
i havent received the 4.3 OTA update, well im hoping this really aint hardware problem.. hoping too that theyll fix it.

Heat can cause magenta tint to image sensors - this happened also when my DSLR's sensor overheated a bit.
Anyways, I checked mine and seems normal, does not have any tinting - on 4.3 :?

Yes. My camera was perfectly fine till I updated the firmware. Now it's stuck this way even going back and forth. I don't know if the driver for the camera gets broken or something... It sucks.
Just bought a HTC One Nordic today - it came with firmware 4.1.2 which is now updated to stock 4.2.2 - and I have had alot of purple tint on both firmwares especially on indoor shots - sigh
So much the camera is more or less useless.

On a related note I presume once the viewfinder boxes go green that means it has focused?

All you can do is positioning the ring. I like the setting with the ring put near camera icon, but its not that easy.

i've set the ring in the middle..in that position it loses too much blue colors...and a bit above yours...too dark for me in that position.

Here's mine. I'm very happy with it.
I would rather prefer a tool to set the white level of the screen.
Compared my G3 to the wife's G2 today, my screen is very pinkish, hers is a perfect white, this is the only concern I do have with my G3
So one thing I have noticed is vertical adjustments change black and white and horizontal adjustments change color. Try making a setting and toggle on and off to compare, i like to go through my app drawer to see if the dark colors are too shaded. Another thing i do is use a reference like xda in chrome to see if the brown and yellow theme looks like it does on my laptop for a good consistency and nice deep color. I'm sitting at the camera icon as well but thought I'd share some ideas on testing and using visual references on things you've seen across different displays to know correct color tones.
Horizontal does hue..... which will more or less completely screw up your phone's color balance
Vertical does the contrast. Go into your laptop display or monitor and crank the contrast, your colors will start to haze and wash out a bit. Dropping it a smidge should make the blacks a bit more, well, black and your colors pop a little bit more.
It's be much nicer to have granular controls of the different colors... but at least this is something.

Yeah.... Hue is better known as "Why the F does my screen look like a smurf on an acid trip puked on my screen?" Any adjustment to that needs to be extremely fine and each color needs to be discrete. An all-in-one slider is about as useful as that HUE knob that us old-timers used to have on our televisions. Made everything look like a cheesy alternative music video from the early 80's.
Doesn't this affect the entire screen and the whole phone? Apps included?

I always stay with "Cool" no matter what display, I can't stand the way warm looks. Here are mine.View attachment 4022019

Is that your full profile? No changes to hue, saturation or contrast?
Well, I actually tweak red and green a lot to try find that sweet spot. I don't touch anything other than rgb scale although reducing saturation a little makes it look a little clean.
If anyone really experienced there have made a modification where the sRGB mode could even be improved with KCAL please do share. I like the sRGB mode as it is, but the whitepoint is far from being perfect and when you place it next to iP7 then it becomes more than clear. The default mode should be banished by the way, its the worst I have seen since them early Samsung AMOLED days.
Wish there was a profile which could place our phone near iPhone 7's accuracy/saturation/calibration.

I am sure someone has a setting for this. Just need them to find the thread and reply.
250, 238, 256 is what I use.
You will never match the iPhone 7 display. It is calibrated, at the factory, per display. We can post settings all we want, but each display can look different than another. But sRGB on the Pixel XL has a definite green bias... this helps resolve it, at least in the white balance. With my Pixel XL next to my iPhone 7 Plus, the 7 Plus is still clearly more color accurate sometimes... and other times, they look pretty close. Just turn on sRGB, adjust the white balance to your liking, and leave it alone. That's the best you can do if you want color accuracy. We lack the granular control capability to do a proper calibration, even if you had the equipment, as far as I know.

I use 246, 226, 256 to correct the green tint in sRGB mode.
Lets warm up.
I kind of miss the warmer hue my Nexus 5X had (It was, from a color accuracy standpoint, much more accurate too). The blue tint this screen has is a bit too much for my liking. After playing around for the last day or so I think I've found some settings that I like that reminds me of my N5X display.
I'm sure i'll be tweaking these slightly as time goes on, but I'm happy with what I've got so far:
Red: 235
Green: 247
Blue: 226
Saturation: 30
Value: 132
Contrast: 132
Hue: 0
sRGB: Off
?
Thank you for these profiles, they are good to test with, although every screen will be different coming from the factory. So tweaking might always be necessary.
Still, tweaking from a good base is way better than working from scratch.
Anyone using the default display mode with corrected green tint? What settings are you using?
I'm using 250, 235, 256 currently, through no delicate tweaking.
I don't like any yellowish, greenish profiles. Here are my profile, enjoy ?
Red 195
Green 178
Blue 215
Saturation 25
Value 129
Contrast 129
Hue 5

Is there anyone who knows how to mess with the settings? All I'm interested in is to get the the white really accurate and white. Compared to my HTC 10 the pixel is a bit yellow. Cheers

Are you in sRGB mode? It should be more green, not yellow.
